Here's How Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Resolves Season 2's Giant Cliffhanger
Image
Spoilers for "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" follow.

When we last left the crew of the Starship Enterprise in "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds" season 2 finale, "Hegemony," things weren't going too well. The vicious alien Gorn had abducted half of the bridge crew. War between Starfleet and the Gorn risked going hot. Captain Pike's (Anson Mount) lover Captain Marie Batel (Melanie Scrofano) was infected with Gorn hatchlings. Pike himself was paralyzed by indecision as the Gorn ships bore down on the Enterprise; Admiral April (Adrian Holmes) called the Enterprise back to the fleet, not leaving them time to rescue their shipmates. The ship's second in command, Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn), called for orders from the helm, but Pike didn't give them.

As chilling a place as that was to leave "Strange New Worlds" season 2, we should've known the Enterprise crew would rise to the job. Pike's silent freeze up was just a pause,...

Aronofsky & Butler's Caught Stealing Unveils A Wild New Poster
Image
Darren Aronofsky, the acclaimed director known for powerful films like Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, and The Whale, is taking a bit of a new direction with his new movie. He's stepping into the world of comedic action with his latest pic, Caught Stealing, from Sony Pictures.

This film is already generating buzz, drawing comparisons to gritty, darkly funny crime capers like Snatch and Layer Cake. So, if you enjoy movies with intense plots, a touch of dark humor, this one should be right down your alley.

Austin Butler leads the film and plays a character whose promising baseball career ended before it even began. His life takes an unexpected and dangerous turn when he agrees to look after his punk rock neighbor's cat. This simple favor leads to a case of mistaken identity, throwing him into the path of some very dangerous individuals.

Butler is joined by an impressive lineup of talented actors,...

Danny DeVito Teases ‘Taxi’ Reunion in New Season of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’
Image
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s 17th season may feature Frank Reynolds as The Golden Bachelor, dog racing, a whole lot of fire and a parody of The Bear (oh my!), but one upcoming bit is particularly sentimental for star Danny DeVito: an homage to his breakout role in Taxi.

Ahead of the season premiere, DeVito hinted that some of New York City’s finest cabbies — or at least the actors who play them — may be making the drive down to Philadelphia this season, a reunion that DeVito described as “big for all of us.”

“We were blessed to have that in our show,” DeVito told the L.A. Times of the upcoming homecoming, the first since his former co-stars Tony Danza, Christopher Lloyd, Judd Hirsch, Carol Kane and Marilu Henner all watched him accept the Jason Robards Award for Excellence in Theater back in March.

As DeVito remained...

Sony releases a new poster for Darren Aronofsky’s Caught Stealing
Image
After a career of intense character dramas, Darren Aronofsky changes up his style for a crime caper that has a surprising amount of levity for the filmmaker. Sony has just unveiled a new poster for Caught Stealing. The one-sheet is reminiscent of a collage with picture cut-outs that are glued together for decoration. The film is penned by Charlie Huston, who is also the author of the book that the movie is based on. The cast sports a list of impressive names that include Austin Butler, Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, Benito A Martínez Ocasio and Carol Kane.

The official plot synopsis reads,

“Hank Thompson (Austin Butler) was a high-school baseball phenom who can’t play anymore, but everything else is going okay. He’s got a great girl (Zoë Kravitz), tends bar at a New York dive, and his favorite team is...

What Are Lathanites In Star Trek? The Species Explained
Image
In the second season of "Star Trek: Strange New Worlds," the U.S.S. Enterprise needed a new chief engineer. The ship's previous engineer, Hemmer (Bruce Horak), was killed in a conflagration with the Gorn, and the ship was sad to lose his skill. Luckily, Captain Pike (Anson Mount) happened upon Pelia (Carol Kane), an eccentric, rules-averse gearhead with many years of experience. Indeed, when Pelia speaks in front of the language expert Uhura (Celia Rose-Gooding), her accent is identified as Lanthanite, a human-looking species that just happens to live many thousands of years.

Lanthanites hadn't been seen on "Star Trek" before, so Pelia's inclusion was a fun new addition to the franchise. As "Strange New Worlds" progressed, Trekkies learned that Lanthanites tend to be packrats, accumulating souvenirs from countless centuries of travel. There series also, thanks to a time travel widget, visited Pelia in the 21st century (in the...

Keanu Reeves Has Only Starred In One Western (And It's Not What You'd Expect)
Image
Keanu Reeves has starred in romances, comedies, monster movies, Shakespeare productions, sci-fi spectaculars, action bonanzas, time travel films, addiction dramas, horror flicks, hengehog adventures, shoot-em-ups, and at least one "SpongeBob" movie. Although he doesn't possess a lot of range as an actor, his personal sense of devotion -- not to mention his relentless decency as a human being -- has fans coming back again and again. He has always seemed interested in variety in his career, equally at peace acting in major blockbusters and tiny low-budget dramas. He has also seemingly valued working with quirky, interesting directors, having acted for the Wachowskis, Ron Howard, Stephen Frears, Kathryn Bigelow, Francis Ford Coppola, Bernardo Bertolucci, Kenneth Branagh, Sam Raimi, Eli Roth, Ana Lily Amirpour, Nicholas Winding Refn, and Alex Winter.

In the early '90s, Reeves made two films with Gus Van Sant, then considered a new voice on the ever-expanding indie movie scene.

Captain Pike returns in the highly anticipated Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3, which premieres July 17 on Paramount+. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Review — The Delightful Voyage Continues
Image
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, with its strong ensemble cast, creative sci-fi storytelling, and consistent sense of fun, has quickly proven to be a fan favorite amidst the sea of modern Star Trek shows. Indeed, while I’ve never been the most hardcore Trekkie, though I have seen all the movies, some scattered episodes of Tos and Tng, and possess a profound appreciation for Lower Decks, I definitely found myself drawn into Strange New Worlds‘s first two seasons.

Now, as the third season arrives on Paramount+ after a two-year hiatus, can this intrepid series continue to boldly go where no show has gone before, or has it beamed up for the last time? For now, I will say the third season feels about on par with its predecessors, though please keep in mind that this only applies to the first five episodes, as that was what was made available...

Following the announcement that Star Trek: Strange New Worldswill be ending after Season 5, one of the show’s stars is reacting to the news. The news that the fifth season will be the last for the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, led by Captain Christopher Pike, comes as Season 3 is set to premiere July 17, 2025 on Paramount+.

Paramount+ announced June 12 that Strange New Worlds had been renewed for Season 5 -- but also that Season 5 will be the show's final season. Campaigning while canceled: ‘Étoile’ could follow these other deep-sixed shows to Emmy glory
Image
It was a classic late-Friday news dump: Amazon confirmed that Étoile, the splashy ballet-themed Prime Video dramedy from the Emmy-winning team of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) had been canceled after one season. The timing was curious: the news broke on June 6, just one week before Emmy voting was set to begin.

Although Étoile has been canceled, the campaign continues. There are billboards and trade ads touting the positive reviews and making a play for votes. Given the publicity surrounding Étoile and the Palladinos' track record (they have 10 Emmys in 24 bids between them), there's a chance that when nominations come out on July 15, Étoile could make the cut. And if it did, it wouldn't be an outlier.

Four years ago, in July 2021, Lovecraft Country received a whopping 18 Emmy nominations for its first and only season, leaving many stunned that a canceled show nabbed the fifth most...

Chin-Riley is then seen with Captain Pike asking him, “Is this a ‘hit it’ situation?” referring to Pike’s catchphrase when the ship goes to warp. Pike replies, “It’s whatever kind of adventure we want it to be.” Also spotted in the new trailer is Carol Kane’s Pelia offering what seems...

‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Season 3 Trailer Promises New Wild and Wonderful Adventures for the Enterprise Crew
Image
It looks like we didn't need to worry too much over that 2-year cliffhanger from Season 2, as the entire Enterprise crew is all smiles in the latest trailer for Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The hit prequel series is set to return after a lengthy hiatus later this summer, picking up where Season 2 left off with Captain Pike on the edge of Federation space with half his crew held captive in enemy territory. It appears that all will be resolved when the series returns as each member of the crew — even those who were held hostage or even infected like Pike's (Anson Mount) girlfriend Batel (Melanie Scrofano) — are setting off on new adventures in the new trailer.

While the new footage certainly features its fair share of action, it primarily emphasizes the lighter, more hopeful aspects of the series with an opening voiceover from Rebecca Romijn's Number One, promising to bring "light,...

Caught Stealing | First trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s crime caper
Image
Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky’s crime comedy Caught Stealing arrives this August. Here’s the first trailer:

Director Darren Aronofsky loves to try his hand at different genres. While there’s often a thrillingly dark edge to whatever he turns his hand to, over the years we’ve seen him delve into horror, drama and surreal psychodrama, to name but a few.

Caught Stealing – his upcoming crime comedy – is out in August. Sony is backing the film, but reportedly isn’t looking at it as an awards magnet like Aronofsky’s 2022 drama, The Whale, which was nominated for two Oscars (and won two). Instead, it’s billed as a ‘gritty Safdie-like crime thriller’ with ‘decent’ commercial chances.

Given how offbeat some of Aronofsky’s films can be, the setup for Caught Stealing does sound surprisingly straightforward. The project is based on the book of the same name by Charlie Huston,...

Image
The highly anticipated movie from filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, Caught Stealing, has it’s first trailer and a release date – August 29 – and I can’t wait!

From Sony Pictures, the film stars Austin Butler, Regina King, Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Vincent D’Onofrio, Griffin Dunne, Benito A Martínez Ocasio (Bad Bunny), and Carol Kane.

Aronofsky’s films, all psychologically intense and often surreal, include Pi (1998), Requiem for a Dream (2000), The Fountain (2006), The Wrestler (2008), Black Swan (2010), Noah (2014), Mother! (2017), The Whale (2022) and Postcard from Earth (2023).

Vanity Fair ran a first look piece in April:

Darren Aronofsky knew he was truly capturing the essence of New York’s wild and unpredictable nightlife when his new movie got hit with a sprinkling of urine.

The uncomfortable encounter happened last fall as Caught Stealing shot scenes beside a tenement in a New York neighborhood that’s famous for its boisterous and bohemian residents and club-goers.

Image
Columbia Pictures released the first trailer for Darren Aronofsky’s new film “Caught Stealing” on Wednesday, and it looks to be his most fun movie … ever?

The filmmaker behind thoughtful, thematically rich dramas like “mother!,” “Black Swan” and “The Whale” goes pure crime caper for this New York film, which begins with Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz agreeing to cat-sit for a friend. Then everything goes sideways.

Butler plays a high school baseball phenom who can’t play anymore, while Kravitz is a bartender at a New York dive. Per the synopsis, “When his punk-rock neighbor Russ (Matt Smith) asks him to take care of his cat for a few days, Hank suddenly finds himself caught in the middle of a motley crew of threatening gangsters. Vincent D'Onofrio, Liev Schreiber, Regina King, Matt Smith, Zoë Kravitz, Austin Butler, and Bad Bunny in Caught Stealing (2025)
Apple and Aronofsky this week unveiled the first trailer for Caught Stealing, Darren Aronofsky’s darkly comic crime thriller starring Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz, adapted from Charlie Huston’s 2004 novel of the same name. Butler plays Hank Thompson, a former high school baseball star turned bartender whose quiet life with his girlfriend Yvonne (Kravitz) is upended when he agrees to pet-sit his punk-rock neighbor’s cat, only to find himself mistaken for a key player in a $4 million heist.

The trailer showcases Hank’s frantic scramble through late-1990s New York’s East Village, navigating a kaleidoscope of criminal factions—including Russian mobsters, Puerto Rican gangs and Jewish loan sharks—while brandishing little more than a baseball bat to survive.

Alongside Butler and Kravitz, the ensemble features Matt Smith as the cat-sitting instigator Russ, Regina King offering wary assistance, Bad Bunny playing a volatile enforcer, and supporting turns from Liev Schreiber,...
