10 Movies Set Almost Entirely in a Single Location
Image
Some movies take you across countries, continents, and galaxies. And then there are the ones that don’t let you leave a single room. When a story is boxed into one location, every look, every line, and every pause carries more weight. There’s no car chase to cut away to, no scenic backdrop to lean on, just characters under pressure, with nowhere to hide. That’s when things get really interesting.

Think about 12 Angry Men, twelve jurors stuck in one hot, cramped room, and it’s somehow more thrilling than most action movies. Or The Breakfast Club, where five teenagers sitting in detention for a day gave us one...

The description reads,

“What happens when five strangers end up together in Saturday detention? Badass posturing, gleeful misbehavior, and a potent dose of angst. With this exuberant, disarmingly candid film, writer-director John Hughes established himself as the bard of American youth, vividly and empathetically capturing how teenagers hang out, act up, and goof off. The Breakfast Club brings together an assortment of...

Hollywood Pays Tribute to 'Superman' Star Terence Stamp
Image
Family, friends, and collaborators of the late Terence Stamp continue to mourn the actor’s death, and the outpouring of love from Hollywood online has been overwhelming. Among those remembering Stamp on social media is none other than his fellow Superman: The Movie and Superman II costar, Valerie Perrine. Perrine portrayed Miss Teschmacher in the two films, while Stamp played the Kryptonian General Zod, but, sadly, the two performers never shared the screen together in either project. Perrine honored Stamp on X (@TheValPerrine) by writing the following:

"Rip Terence Stamp! A phenomenal actor and beautiful man. I never had the honor to have a scene with him in Superman. I admired his body of work.

The Breakfast Club is returning to theatres for its 40th anniversary
Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Anthony Michael Hall in Breakfast Club (1985)
2025 marks the 40th anniversary of one of the all-time greats, the classic coming-of-age movie The Breakfast Club – and this anniversary is such a momentous occasion, all five of the actors who play the title characters were brought together at a convention for the first time earlier this year. The celebration continues next month, as Universal Pictures will be bringing the film back to theatres nationwide for two days of special screenings on September 7 and 10. Advance tickets for this theatrical rerelease are available to purchase on Fandango.

Written and directed by the legendary John Hughes, The Breakfast Club is set at a suburban Chicago high school and follows five students from vastly different cliques who arrive for a Saturday detention and discover that the labels assigned to them do not define who they are. Over the course of one day, Claire the princess, Andrew the athlete, Brian the brain, Allison the...

The Breakfast Club 40th Anniversary Returns To Theaters
Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy, and Anthony Michael Hall in Breakfast Club (1985)
It’s been four decades since the release of The Breakfast Club, John Hughes’ masterful coming-of-age story. To celebrate, the film is returning to theaters nationwide for a special two-day event on September 7 and 10.

Why The Breakfast Club Became a Landmark Teen Drama

The Breakfast Club isn’t just a high school movie. It’s a profound story about what it means to be seen and understood. Back in 1985, Hughes broke the mold by depicting teenagers with honesty and emotional depth rarely seen on screen.

Set during a single Saturday detention, the story brings together five students from different cliques: Claire the princess, Andrew the athlete, Brian the brain, Allison the basket case,...

The Breakfast Club Returning to Movie Theaters for 40th Anniversary
Image
Universal is continuing its love affair with movie re-releases this September, as John Hughes’ The Breakfast Club will celebrate its 40th anniversary by returning to theaters on September 7th and 10th.

Originally released on February 15th, 1985, the classic film features a simple premise, as we spend a day with five unlikely delinquents forced to serve detention together, bonding over their similarities by the end. The movie made young cast members Anthony Michael Hall, Emilio Estevez, Molly Ringwald, Ally Sheedy, and Judd Nelson into household names, and cemented Hughes’ status as a defining voice in the world of teen comedies — not just in the ’80s, but for all time. And Simple Minds’ “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” remains one of the all-time great movie themes.

As Ringwald noted herself in 2024, there are parts of The Breakfast Club that haven’t aged particularly well. But it remains an enduring part of film history,...

The Only Movie Stephen King Ever Directed is Now Free to Stream, See Why He Calls it a “Disaster”
Image
World-renowned author Stephen King is well known for his prolific literary output as well as for his snarky sense of humor. He’s been known to troll divisive political figures and tech billionaires alike via social media, often leading to gut-busting results. With that said, King isn’t above poking a bit of good-natured fun at himself now and then.

In fact, the author recently responded to a Threads prompt asking, “What’s your favorite disaster movie?” with a self-deprecating two-word response that absolutely proves he is not above trolling himself on occasion.

King’s comical reply simply reads, “Maximum Overdrive.” As you may know, that’s the only film King ever directed. As you may also know, he’s not alone in considering the picture a bit of a mess. King has openly admitted that he was using copious amounts of cocaine when he made the film, which is...

The Mighty Ducks Cast: Where Are The Actors Today
Image
Of all the early 1990s kids' films revolving around a ragtag group of misfits playing sports, "The Mighty Ducks" is one of the most enduring. The original made an immediate impression on young audiences, so much so that it earned two sequels in quick succession, both of which featured many returning cast members. Each of the players on the Ducks had their own unique niche, whether they were an enforcer, a figure of comedic relief, or a pint-sized hero, making them memorable to fans.

While some members of the cast of "The Mighty Ducks" parlayed their experience in the film into an adult acting career, others struggled to find the same success or left the industry entirely, and many of them reunited for "The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers" series on Disney+. But whether or not they found Hollywood fame, plenty have led truly interesting lives on and off screen.

The Most Underrated Parody Films Of All Time
Image
Now that the new Naked Gun has been released, it reminded us of how great parody films can be (check out Bumbray’s review Here). I felt it was time to look at other films in the parody genre. Because, sure, everyone knows Airplane, Hot Shots, or Scary Movie, but there are plenty of others that are worth your time. From the financially unsuccessful to films that didn’t get a fair shake until decades later, it’s time that we run the gauntlet.

So let’s take a look at some of the most underrated Parody Films ever made.

Stay Tuned (1992)

Ironically, this film was actually just announced to be getting its own TV series and has always been amongst John Ritter’s best. Following a husband and wife as they’re sucked into their television sets, they must survive the twisted versions of the shows that they now find themselves in.

The 12 Best Lindsay Lohan Movies, Ranked
Image
In the 2000s, millennials crowned auburn-haired Lindsay Lohan as the teen idol of the era. Unfortunately, like many child stars, Lohan had a difficult time in the industry and took a decade-long break in the 2010s. Still, her films from the late 1990s and mid-2000s remain generational touchstones and comedy classics.

Lohan's more grown-up work is less popular, though there are a few gems in her filmography that she deserves more credit for. More recently, Lohan launched something of a comeback with her series of popular Netflix films, putting her name back on the proverbial marquee once more.

Films aimed at kids and teens aren't always given serious consideration, and Lohan hasn't had the easiest time pleasing critics and keeping the press on her side. In fact, it's high time we evaluate Lohan's work with clear eyes and enough hindsight to recognize her talent and charisma for what it is.

‘90s Movie Legend, 63, Reveals How He Landed His Role in Denzel Washington 86% Rotten Tomatoes Thriller
Image
After breaking out as a star thanks to his iconic turn as Ritchie Valens in the biopic La Bamba, Lou Diamond Phillips was everywhere. He joined forces with Edward James Olmos for the acclaimed Stand and Deliver, was part of a stacked ensemble with Brat Pack member Emilio Estevez for Young Guns, and would even go on to earn acclaim on-stage with a Broadway adaptation of The King and I. Among his most memorable performances, though, was his appearance in the 1996 war thriller Courage Under Fire, starring the legendary Denzel Washington as an army officer responsible for a deadly case of friendly fire. However, despite having earned Golden Globe and Tony nominations, he wasn't originally a shoo-in for the role of Staff Sergeant John Monfriez.

Over the weekend, Phillips took part in a panel with his old Young Guns co-star Kiefer Sutherland at FanX's Atlanta Comic Convention, where he shared...

Peter Weller's Absurd And Inventive '80s Sci-Fi Flop Is Streaming For Free
Image
Milos Forman's "Amadeus" may have cleaned up at the Oscars while "Ghostbusters" dominated the box office, but for me, 1984 is best remembered as a vintage year for cult movies. For starters, "This is Spinal Tap" was one of the most quotable movies of all time, and there was more musical madness with Val Kilmer spoofing Elvis in "Top Secret!" and Walter Hill's rock 'n' roll fable "Streets of Fire." Elsewhere, Emilio Estevez was on the trail of a UFO Chevy Malibu in "Repo Man," while Troma gave us an alternative superhero for the ages in "The Toxic Avenger." The list goes on, but arguably the weirdest of the bunch was "The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai across the 8th Dimension," a sci-fi action adventure starring Peter Weller that is just as absurd and inventive as its title suggests.

Trying to briefly outline the movie's plot is a challenge worthy...

Rob Lowe teases St Elmo's Fire sequel
Rob Lowe believes it is a "super valid" time to make a sequel to St. Elmo's Fire. The 61-year-old actor starred in the original 1985 movie - which followed a group of graduates as they adjusted to life after college - as William 'Billy' Hicks and he's set to reprise the role of his saxophone-playing alter ego for a second movie, and he's insisted it is a great time in the characters' lives to see what they are doing now.He told People magazine: "We're working on the script, and it's really getting good."I think it's super valid to revisit those characters that continue to mean a lot to people and watch them navigate this chapter of life, because arguably this chapter of life is every bit as interesting and fraught as — 'What do I do when I get out of college?' Freejack (1992) – What Happened to This Sci-Fi Movie?
Image
Freejack is a 1992 science fiction action flick in which a Formula One driver explodes into a gigantic Nissan advertisement in a gnarly mid-air collision, only to have his body stolen just before impact by a time-traveling Mick Jagger. All this in a film that once had the mind of a 1959 thinking-man’s pontification on the soul, that now has the body of an Arnold Schwarzenegger brouhaha. Only it stars Emilio Estevez. That’s right. The Mighty Duck man, I swear to God! If that’s not enough weirdness to satiate you, this story also involves a classic Spielberg/Hooper “who actually directed this” mystery, actresses replaced mid-shoot because they don’t make the producers feel all funny deep down inside, and even Sir Anthony Hopkins talking a little sh*t. This is What Happened to Freejack.

The story of Freejack starts back in 1959 with the release of Robert Sheckley’s science fiction novel Immortality,...

‘It was wonderful to be on that ride’: Christian Slater talks his beloved roles, from cult classics to TV hits
Image
When Christian Slater made his purported "comeback" on Mr. Robot in 2015, winning a Golden Globe for the eponymous role, he didn’t think he had gone anywhere. He had been steadily working onscreen for 30 years, since his film debut in 1985’s The Legend of Billie Jean.

Sure, most of the films and television series he made over the first decade-plus of the 2000s weren’t smash hits out of the gate, but neither were many of what would ultimately be his most memorable projects. Heathers, Pump Up the Volume, True Romance, Very Bad Things — all box-office failures-turned-cult classics.

The fact that Slater has so few blockbusters on his résumé (his highest-grossing movie is 1991’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves) yet has remained such a beloved figure in Hollywood for 40 years now is a testament to his both his undeniable talent and enduring appeal. He just has a presence that’s unforgettable.

The 25 Best Second Movies From Breakout Directors
Image
Success can be a double-edged sword. While every filmmaker would like their first movie to be a breakout success, those kinds of hits build expectation for their second feature, and not every director can navigate the artistic and industrial labyrinth that it takes to produce another instant classic.

Indeed, the perfect one-two punch is rarely achieved. Many of the best directors don’t start out with one of their finest or most successful films, those that do can’t always parlay that into a second success.

But some filmmakers have managed to immediately capitalize on all that good will, directing a second great movie after their debut wins the hearts of critics and/or audiences. With “Past Lives” filmmaker Celine Song’s second film “Materialists” now in theaters, we’re pretty danged sure these are the best.

The Best of the Bad Guys: The Most Violent Ghostface Moments

Welcome back to “Best of the Bad Guys” where we celebrate the best of horror’s worst villains. Today we’re celebrating all that corn syrup in the Scream franchise with the top 10 most violent Ghostface moments in no particular order. Let’s get right into it, Sidney!

Scream – Poor Steve and Casey

It all starts with Casey’s boyfriend Steve being horrifically gutted from behind whilst tied to a chair. We mostly only hear the gushey gushey’s as the camera focuses on Poor Steve’s face in agony but Wes Craven was always a master at horrifying you with sound, going way back to 1972’s Last House on the Left. There is, however, an unrated film cut that features all of Steve’s innards flopping out and into the universe. There’s emotional violence as well in this scene considering that as Steve was about to be gutted...

Francis Ford Coppola’s Insane “More Fire” Call Turned the 71%-Rated Film’s Scene Hazardous
Image
Francis Ford Coppola’s never been one to play it safe, but his demand on the set of The Outsiders took things to a whole new level. In one of the film’s most intense sequences, what was meant to be a carefully choreographed blaze quickly spiraled into a genuine hazard.

Crew members were reportedly on edge, and the set turned chaotic. The 71%-rated film still holds its iconic status, but that one moment almost burned more than just the scene.

When “more fire” meant Too much fire: Francis Ford Coppola’s fiery vision in The Outsiders nearly backfired Francis Ford Coppola | Image by: Rita Molnár, licensed under Cc By-sa 2.5 via Wikimedia Common

Francis Ford Coppola literally lit The Outsiders on fire. During the intense church-burning scene, Coppola shouted for “more fire,” pushing for realism. But that craving nearly sparked disaster when the controlled flames flared up into a real hazard.

‘Brats’ director Andrew McCarthy reflects on Brat Pack legacy, reuniting with ’80s icons, and possible ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ revival
Image
"The movie is really about the passing of time," Brats director Andrew McCarthy tells Gold Derby. "I turned 60 not that long ago and I realized that I had begun to look at events of my life in a different way than I used to."

For the first time in decades, McCarthy reunites with fellow Brat Packers Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, and Ally Sheedy, along with other stars of that era like Jon Cryer, Timothy Hutton, and Lea Thompson, to discuss their rise to stardom in the 1980s and how the term "Brat Pack" — coined by journalist David Blum in an article for New York Magazine — impacted their careers.

Reflecting further, McCarthy says his fascination lies less with the Brat Pack itself and more with how perspectives on life evolve with time. "When I was 22, we hated it — all of us," he says. "We felt stigmatized — it was very limiting.

Why The First Mission: Impossible Movie Is Still The Best In The Series
Image
For television viewers of the late '60s and early '70s, "Mission: Impossible" was an accessible gateway into the thrilling world of disguises, gadgetry, and international espionage. The lauded CBS spy thriller was an invitation to get an exclusive sneak behind the curtain of operations that only the Imf had a chance of pulling off. As the spy genre became increasingly popular with the James Bond films, the canvases to tell these stories were getting bigger and bigger, and it was only a matter of time until "Mission: Impossible" made the leap to the big screen.

For nearly three decades now, Tom Cruise, the pseudo king of movie stardom, has shepherded "Mission: Impossible" from a beloved television series into one of the biggest movie franchises in the world. Every new adventure, whether heralded by a new auteur or featuring an outlandish stunt, has done a spectacular job of making...

Josh Holloway's Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol Death Was Almost Way More Gruesome
Image
It might not have been proven with exact science, but it's a safe bet to say that the "Mission: Impossible" franchise has run purely on the adrenaline coursing through Tom Cruise's veins. Dancing with danger in every chapter, the close calls his impossible-mission-completing hero, Ethan Hunt, has experienced have raised enough pulses to make smartwatches check if you're okay. Even with all these death-defying antics, however, there has been a surprisingly small amount of gore for those who didn't quite make it. Emilio Estevez got kebab'd and Henry Cavill took a propeller to his almost $3 million mustache, but one character that nearly had what might've been one of the worst deaths in the franchise was Josh Holloway's as one of the briefly seen Imf agents, Trevor Hanaway, in "Mission: Impossible -- Ghost Protocol."

In a recent interview, the former "Lost" star explained that the exit of his character...

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning review | There will be explaining
Image
Tom Cruise headlines Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, a very long and slightly odd sign off for the series. Here’s our review.

We’re already one round of explanations into Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning when, after a few minutes, we see our hero for the first time.

It’s Tom Cruise, his hair straggled, billed as playing the death-defying Ethan Hunt for the eighth time. Reunited for a fifth movie – and fourth in this saga – with writer-director Christopher McQuarrie (McQuarrie sharing screenplay duties with Erik Jendresen), Cruise steps into view, every inch the movie star.

Seven films have got us thus far, with opening sequences previously seeing him ripping off masks and clinging to a plane in take-off. What could McQuarrie and Cruise have served up to kick off this final reckoning?

A VHS tape, and the watching of it.

A video thoughtfully cut together by...

Ilana Glazer Calls Out the “Broligarchy’s Speeding of the Onslaught of Fascism” at Webby Awards
Image
The 2025 Webby Awards theme may have been “All Good,” as the annual ceremony celebrated the best of the internet from the past year, but host Ilana Glazer wasn’t shy about going after politics or the more problematic elements of technology.

Glazer kicked off the evening by joking that the “All Good” theme was selected because an alternative like “‘The Broligarchy’s Speeding of the Onslaught of Facism in the Face of the Climate Catastrophe at the Point of No Return’ would have bummed everybody out.”

As she continued her monologue, Glazer spoke about the continued uncertainty around the fate of TikTok and joked that Signal is the app that should truly be banned.

“TikTok and the Trump administration were the Ross and Rachel of social media — a real will they, won’t they,” Glazer joked. “They banned it and then they quickly brought it back. Now they’re talking about banning it again.

Hollywood Insider - 40 Years Later, The Brat Pack Reunites — But Not for a Sequel

Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Anthony Michael Hall came together at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo earlier this April to talk all things Brat Pack. No Plans to Return to Detention

You’d think that after 40 years, the story of five teenagers stuck in Saturday detention might fade into the background of film history. But 'The Breakfast Club'? It’s still front and center — and apparently, still just as meaningful to its cast as it is to the fans who grew up with it (and the ones discovering it now).

At Chicago’s C2E2 pop culture convention on April 12, Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, and Anthony Michael Hall took the stage together for the “Don’t You Forget About Me: The Breakfast Club 40th Anniversary Reunion” panel.

Beloved Brat Pack Member Joins Wednesday Season 2
Image
Anthony Michael Hall was one of the most sought-after young actors of the 80s, appearing in numerous hit coming-of-age films, and one of the members of the group of young actors dubbed as the "Brat Pack." It's recently been announced that the actor will be joining the cast of the Netflix series Wednesday.

Per Variety, the actor will appear in the series based on American cartoonist Charles Addams' The Addams Familyin a yet-undisclosed role. His addition to the cast marks a reunion between Hall and Wednesday executive producer – and director of four Season 1 episodes – Tim Burton.

Image via Prime Video

The two previously worked together on Burton's Edward Scissorhands, starring Johnny Depp as the eponymous blade-fingered protagonist, in which Hall played Jim, Kim's jealous, arrogant boyfriend – and the film's primary antagonist. Both Edward Scissorhands and Wednesday fall under an aesthetic umbrella that has characterized Burton's career, blending dark, gothic elements with more whimsical fantasy.

Emilio Estevez recalls dad Martin Sheen’s antics on Apocalypse Now
Image
If there’s one movie that has the most insane behind-the-scenes stories, it’s Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now. From heart attacks to star wrangling to cast firings to stoned actors to actual wars to pretty much everything that could go sideways during production, Apocalypse Now had it all. Don’t believe us? Go watch Hearts of Darkness and you’ll get a pretty good idea of everything that was happening. Don’t plan on seeing that? Just ask Emilio Estevez, son of star Martin Sheen, who watched his dad have a total meltdown on the set of Apocalypse Now when he was just a teenager.

Estevez recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he recounted the time he was brought onto the Philippines set of Apocalypse Now only to see his movie star father make film history while also breaking down completely. But first let’s set the scene,...

'I Was Punishing Myself': The Substance's Demi Moore Reveals Her Real-Life Body Image Struggles
Image
Hollywood icon and star of The Substance, Demi Moore, discusses her own past issues with her image.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, opened up about the extremes she used to push herself to in order to maintain what she felt was the requisite Hollywood form for '90s classic such as Striptease and G.I. Jane. "I mean, crazy things [with] diet and exercise, biking from Malibu and going all the way to Paramount about 26 miles," Moore stated. "All because I had placed so much value on what my outsides looked like."

Moore went on to note that, at the time, she was regularly "so harsh and had a much more antagonistic relationship with my body. And straight up, I was really just punishing myself... And in this desire to dominate it versus now, I have a much more kind of intuitive, relaxed, trusting relationship with my body." Moore went on to explain that,...

Rob Lowe Reveals Surprising Connection Between Tom Cruise's Iconic Run and The Outsiders Co-Star Emilio Estevez
Image
Nowadays, Rob Lowe, Emilio Estevez, and Tom Cruise are household names. However, in the early '80s, they co-starred in the coming-of-age film The Outsiders when they were just getting started, and the film had a lasting impact on Cruise.

Tom Cruise is one of the most famous and popular action stars, mostly thanks to his long-running franchise, Mission: Impossible. The actor has never shied away from doing all kinds of risky stunts in the name of art, and one of his most iconic moves is his run. During an appearance on the podcast Fly on the Wall with Dana Carvey and David Spade, Lowe revealed Cruise might have learned his tricks from Estevez's trainer.

The conversation about Cruise started around 18:25, when Carvey highlighted that the actor doesn't take his shirt off in films anymore, which Lowe noted is because "he's smart." Lowe co-starred with the Top Gun star in the 1983's The Outsiders,...

Emilio Estevez is trying to revive a beloved Disney franchise but Disney doesn't want it!
Image
There's a new Mighty Ducks movie just waiting to be made by the original star, too! Too bad Disney doesn't want to make it!

The Mighty Ducks may be one of the odder franchises in Disney history. It all started with 1992's movie of the same name starring Emilio Estevez as Gordon Bombay, a cocky hotshot lawyer. After a DUI arrest, Gordon is forced to do community service coaching a junior hockey league.

Gordon hates this as he's loathed hockey ever since he failed to score a winning goal in a championship game when he was a kid. It's not helped that the team (who he nicknames the Ducks) is the worst in the league.

Slowly but surely, Gordon builds these misfits (which included a young Joshua Jackson) into a team that ends up winning the championship. Released in October of 1992, the movie turned into a sleeper success with a...

'Young Guns 3' Gets Big Plot Detail Update From Emilio Estevez
Image
Emilio Estevez has been sharing details on Young Guns 3, the unexpected new sequel to the classic ‘80s/’90s movies starring Estevez, Christian Slater, Lou Diamond Phillips. 35 years after the last movie in the franchise, Estevez is getting the western gang back together for a new story that will add to the legacy of the characters introduced in 1988.

While appearing on theHappy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Estevez detailed that he has been preparing a possible cast list for the sequel, which includes the aforementioned Phillips and Slater reprising their roles, and Estevez back as Billy the Kid as well as directing the film. Opening up about those potential cast returns and the possibility of even more Young Guns sequels in the future.

“Lou- Lou returns. Christian Slater returns. We didn't see either of them die on camera. We certainly didn't see Billy the Kid die on camera. And if...

Emilio Estevez Wrote a Sequel to ‘Maximum Overdrive’ but No One Will Make It
Image
While Stephen King adaptations have been on a high for many years now, before that there were some atrocious duds made bearing the prolific horror author’s name – including the one that he directed himself. That movie was the trash fire that is Maximum Overdrive, a movie based on the short story “Trucks” that sees an alien presence bringing a bunch of large vehicles to life in a murderous way. And it seems that its star, Emilio Estevez has been working on a sequel.

Maximum Overdrive was written and directed by King and remains his only directorial effort for a good reason. Released in 1986, the film had a small budget of just over $9 million, but made only $7.5 million at the box office. In addition, the film’s Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer score sits at a lowly 14%, while its audience score fared somewhat better but still “rotten” at 50%. However, after starring in the film,...

Molly Ringwald Says ’The Breakfast Club’ Is Too White To Work Now
Image
The Breakfast Club is widely considered one of the best teen films of all time, and it's a movie that has certainly gone on to live beyond the time it was released in 1985. It defined a generation in the '80s and has spoken to generations that have discovered it since its initial release. A film of its stature, especially in this Hollywood climate obsessed with established IP, seems prime for a modern-day reboot, but one of the film's stars,Molly Ringwald, believes it's such a product of its time that it couldn't be remade. Mostly because it's a little too white.

The entire cast of The Breakfast Club reunited for the first time in 40 years at the C2E2 fan convention in Chicago, via Variety, and Ringwald, as she sat with her co-stars, Emilio Estevez, Judd Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall and Ally Sheedy, revealed that she believes the film's...

Emilio Estevez Says He Wrote a Script for 'Mighty Ducks 4' That Disney Rejected
Image
Emilio Estevez has revealed that he wanted to reprise his role as Coach Gordon Bombay for a fourth feature film in The Mighty Ducks series, but the franchise seemingly got benched after The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. The actor, who headlined the original 1992 sports movie and picked up his hockey sticks for two more film sequels, in addition to the first season of the aforementioned Disney+ series in 2021, has admitted that he was game for a return and even wrote a script for The Mighty Ducks 4, but Disney iced it out.

Estevez spoke candidly about the status of The Mighty Ducks franchise during a recent appearance on Josh Horowitz's Happy Sad Confused podcast. He explained that he wrote a spec script for another feature film in the franchise to "make up" for the "disasters" of The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, which he exited before the second season. He didn't...

Emilio Estevez's The Mighty Ducks 4 Idea Will Probably Never Happen But It Sounds Pretty Great
Image
When last we saw Emilio Estevez, he was serving a hilariously tiny, get-the-f***-out-of-my-house bottle of water to his "St. Elmo's Fire" co-star Andrew McCarthy in the latter's cringy-fascinating documentary "Brats." Estevez can be a refreshingly candid interview subject, but judging from the tensed shoulders and the unblinking death stare he had fixed on McCarthy, he did not appear to be in the mood to take a stroll down Brat Pack memory road that day.

Why was Estevez so on edge? McCarthy's antsy demeanor and scattered line of questioning made it fairly plain this project should've never made it outside of his therapist's office. I would've given him the short water treatment, too. But perhaps something else was eating at Estevez.

Looking back at Estevez's 52-year acting career (stretching all the way back to his uncredited debut in Terrence Malick's 1973 masterpiece "Badlands"), he's been a pivotal part of some pop cultural touchstones.

Emilio Estevez Says He Wrote Mighty Ducks 4 After Exit From Disney+ Series
Emilio Estevez has revealed that he wrote a script for a fourth Mighty Ducks film, intended as a response to his frustrations with the Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. Estevez originated the role of Coach Gordon Bombay in the 1992 film and returned for the first season of the streaming series before departing the project.

“I wanted to make up for all of the disasters that happened on the Game Changers series,” Estevez said during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.

According to Estevez, the new script centered on Bombay being brought back into the world of hockey by characters portrayed in the earlier films by Joshua Jackson and Kenan Thompson. This time, the story would have focused on an all-girls team competing in a professional women’s hockey league. Bombay, found coaching roller derby, insists on bringing his roller team with him. “They have to have a shot,...

Emilio Estevez Says He Wrote ‘Mighty Ducks 4’ To Make Up For “Disasters” From Disney+ Series & Recalls ‘St. Elmo’s Fire’ Director Was A “Nightmare On Set”
Image
Emilio Estevez is making some big revelations in his latest interview, where he discusses writing a new Mighty Ducks sequel and shares his experience on the set of St. Elmo’s Fire.

One of Estevez’s most memorable roles was playing Coach Bombay in the 1992 film The Mighty Ducks. The actor reprised his role in the Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, but left the show after the first season as a result of “nothing more than a good old-fashioned contract dispute” as well as “a myriad of creative differences.”

In a new interview with Josh Horowitz for the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Estevez said he “wrote Mighty Ducks 4.”

“I wanted to make up for all of the disasters that happened on the Game Changers series,” he said.

Estevez said the “feature script” would have “Coach Bombay coming back [and] being pulled back in by Josh Jackson’s character and...
