Brad Pitt isn’t usually known for showing emotion at the movies, but in a 2013 interview with W Magazine, he revealed two films that made him tear up over the years.
The first was the 2010 animated film How to Train Your Dragon. Pitt said he rarely cries at films, but this one got to him. “At the end, he’s lost his leg, and they’re living in harmony with the Dragons, that got me,” he admitted.
The DreamWorks movie tells the story of a young Viking who befriends a dragon, challenging the expectations of his tribe.

Exclusive: Grammy-winning singer, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Laufey has contributed four never-before-heard songs, produced with Spencer Stewart, to director Kogonada’s upcoming film A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.
Featured in the film are three original covers by the musician – “Let’s Dream In The Moonlight,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “But Beautiful” – as well as a new original song written for the film entitled “The Risk.”
“I’m so honored to be a part of this film. When I spoke with Kogonada originally about joining the project, I instantly connected to the way he wanted to create an escape for audiences – referencing themes of the past while keeping it modern,” Laufey said. “The film’s story mirrored so much of what I wrote about in my latest album, A Matter of Time. While Cate Blanchett’s cameo in Squid Game Season 3 created plenty of buzz, her lead role in the 2024 Apple TV+ miniseries, Disclaimer, went mostly unnoticed. Based on Renée Knight’s eponymous novel, the show is a psychological erotic thriller that keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. The show received generally positive reviews and has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 76%.
Blanchett, who has openly criticized Hollywood’s pay disparity, appears as an acclaimed documentary journalist in Disclaimer. A Western icon if there ever was one, Kevin Costnerhas taken the genre to tremendous new heights, at a time when it was on the endangered list. He continues to put his might behind Westerns, having starred in the landmark series Yellowstone and having directed the Oscar-winning Dances With Wolves. He has invested a large portion of his personal wealth in the epic Horizon: An American Saga franchise. The first installment of the proposed five-film series was released to an underwhelming box office response last year, putting its future in jeopardy. An already-shot second film awaits a release. But Costner could afford to take these risks because of the goodwill that he has built for himself over the years, a goodwill that he first developed with the classic 1985 film Silverado, which is now available to stream for free on Tubi.

Cate Blanchett is no stranger to playing complicated, misunderstood women. But in Apple TV+’s “Disclaimer,” Alfonso Cuaron’s seven-part series about a documentarian whose deepest, darkest secrets come to light in a novel written by an unreliable narrator, the two-time Academy Award winner, and now three-time Emmy nominee, was tasked with embodying an embattled woman who loses control of her own story.
“The challenge for me, and I suppose the painful reality, was that when you play a central character in a narrative, you invite an audience not necessarily to have empathy with you, but you invite them into your character’s point of view,” Blanchett says from her home in London. “Disclaimer” was the “antithesis” of that conventional wisdom, forcing Blanchett to sit in others’ snap judgments of her character, Catherine Ravenscroft, until she finally reclaims her story in the harrowing finale.

Let’s be real, Denzel Washington is straight-up Oscar royalty. With nine Academy Award nominations and two wins under his belt, he’s proven time and again that he’s not just a movie star, but a genuine acting powerhouse. What’s even more impressive? He’s one of only nine actors to snag nominations across five different decades.
That’s the kind of staying power most actors can only dream of. From his breakthrough role in Glory to his recent Shakespearean turn in The Tragedy of Macbeth, Washington has consistently delivered performances that leave audiences and critics speechless.

Oscar had no idea that one little comedy might one day take someone out and not in the metaphorical “nailed it” way people say in 2025. You see, back in 1988, A Fish Called Wanda rolled into cinemas like a steamroller, with few basic elements, like a silly plan, a stuttering animal lover, a CIA wannabe and a diamond heist gone sideways.
However, somehow, it rolled right over a poor Danish man’s heart. Literally.

Rob Reiner is an unabashed Stephen King fan. He third movie was Stand by Me, based on the King story "The Body." Shortly after the release of that film, he formed his own production company, Castle Rock Entertainment, named after a fictional Maine town that serves as the setting for many a King tale. Over the years, Castle Rock has churned out several adaptations of the horror master's works, including The Shawshank Redemption, Misery, The Green Mile, Needful Things, Dolores Claiborne, Hearts in Atlantis, and Dreamcatcher — but, ironically, not the King-adjacent series Castle Rock, which was produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot.
During a weekend appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, Reiner shared some behind-the-scenes anecdotes of his two acclaimed King features, Stand by Me (1986) and Misery (1990), which earned a Best Actress Oscar for Kathy Bates — the only film based on the novelist's work to win an Academy Award.

On July 25, It's time to head back to the links — and the 1990s — with Adam Sandler. The star is picking up his golf clubs again for Netflix's Happy Gilmore 2, a belated follow-up to the 1996 golf comedy that propelled him onto Hollywood's comedy A-list. It's the first time that Sandler has revisited one of those vintage comedies; to date, his only live-action sequels to previous successes have been Grown-Ups 2 and Murder Mystery 2.
Interestingly, Happy Gilmore 2 is arriving on Netflix one month ahead of Sandler's latest seriocomic turn; the actor will be starring alongside George Clooney in Noah Baumbach's Venice-bound feature Jay Kelly. And the two actors will likely be joined at the hip throughout awards season as Clooney positions himself for his first Best Actor nomination since The Descendants way back in 2013. (He won a Best Supporting Actor statuette in 2007 for Syriana.)

Blu-ray.com has reported on Sony’s newest physical media release for the 1985 western Silverado. The Lawrence Kasdan film is packed with an all-star cast that includes Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, Danny Glover, John Cleese, Jeff Goldblum, Jeff Fahey, Rosanna Arquette, Linda Hunt & Brian Dennehy. The movie will come in a Blu-ray/4K Blu-ray combo pack and is scheduled to be available on October 7.
Our Eic, Chris Bumbray, raved about the film in a retrospective column and video, in which he stated, “Silverado is so much fun that it’s insane to think that the movie never spawned a western franchise that would have sustained a whole series of films. Kasdan should still be making Silverado adventures thirty years later. For one thing, this was Kasdan in his prime, so the writing and craftsmanship is right-on.”

With nominations set to be announced on July 15, this will be one of the most closely watched categories.

Kevin Costner became a huge star in the 1980s and 1990s. He embodied a good, dependable All-American kind of guy, often playing golden boys in sports movies like "Bull Durham," "Tin Cup," and "Field of Dreams." He also has a passion for Westerns, winning Academy Awards for his sweeping romance between a Union solider and Native American woman, "Dances with Wolves." In recent years, he starred in "Yellowstone," a modern drama about a powerful ranching magnate. Most recently, he released his passion project, "Horizon: An American Saga -- Chapter 1," which flopped at the box office, but gained some traction on VOD.
Like many up-and-coming actors, Costner's career began with a lot of bit parts or Z-grade movies with shoestring budgets. There was one role that could have opened the door to his eventual stardom earlier, but unfortunately, his scenes ended up on the cutting room floor. "The Big Chill" was...

Noticeably absent from “The View” this week, moderator Whoopi Goldberg has signed on to appear in a handful of episodes of the Italian soap opera “Un posto al sole” (translated to “A Place in the Sun”), the longest-running series on Italian television, which tells the story of the inhabitants of Palazzo Palladini who are not simple neighbors, but friends, enemies and sometimes lovers.
Goldberg will play a recurring role for a “special storyline” over a few episodes set to air in 2026 as part of the show’s 30th anniversary season.
“Goldberg’s participation is a source of great pride for Rai Fiction, Fremantle, the Rai Television Production Centre in Naples, and the entire cast of ‘Un posto al sole,’” said the show’s producers in a statement announcing Goldberg’s casting.

When it comes to Hollywood awards, it pays to be in the Caped Crusader's rogues gallery.
In 2008, Heath Ledger won a posthumous Oscar for his portrayal of the Joker in The Dark Knight. In 2019, Joaquin Phoenix did his own interpretation of the character in Joker, which also won him an Oscar. If Colin Farrell wins an Emmy this year for his performance as the title character in The Penguin, he'd be the third actor to have won a major peer group award for playing a Bat-villain.
Following the events of the 2022 feature film, The Batman, The Penguin miniseries explores Oz Cobb/the Penguin's rise to power in the criminal underworld of Gotham City. Earlier this year, Farrell managed to win the Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and Screen Actors Guild Awards for his portrayal. He's now eligible for an Emmy Award for the HBO show, and it would be the first of his career.

Stories that deal with suicide aren’t easy to sit through—but sometimes, they’re the ones we need most. In a world where mental health still struggles to be talked about openly, movies about suicide serve not just as mirrors, but as quiet lifelines. They help put into words—and pictures—feelings that are often buried too deep to explain. Whether it’s a character’s internal breakdown or the aftermath of a tragic decision, these narratives carry the weight of what it means to be human, fallible, and searching for a reason to stay. Movies about suicide that you can stream on Netflix aren’t just depressing dramas. They offer moments of grace, resilience, and even humor, wrapped around the gravity of the subject. Here are 10 such films that handle these complex emotions with sincerity and care.

When Alfonso Cuarón stepped into the world of series to direct AppleTV+’s “Disclaimer,” he called on Adam Gough to assemble and cut the series.
The two had previously worked together on “Children of Men,” with Gough serving as an apprentice editor. In 2018, the two joined forces again to co-edit the Netflix film, “Roma.” Through it all, they had developed a shorthand where minimal communication was key to their collaboration.
“Disclaimer” is based on the novel of the same name by Renée Knight. It follows acclaimed journalist Catherine Ravenscroft, played by Cate Blanchett, who receives a novel from an unknown author. She is horrified to realize she is now the main character in a story that exposes her darkest secrets and forces her to confront her past. Sacha Baron Cohen plays her husband, Robert, and Kodi Smit-McPhee plays their son Nicholas.

Ever since he played the sweet-faced teenage boy who stands up for Kevin Kline’s outed gay teacher at the end of 1997’s “In & Out,” Shawn Hatosy has endeared himself to a wide audience.
In the intervening years, he has worked nonstop, popping up in films directed by Robert Rodriguez (“The Faculty)”, Werner Herzog (“Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans”) and Michael Mann (“Public Enemies”) and on TV in acclaimed series like NBC/TNT’s cop drama “Southland” and TNT’s crime saga “Animal Kingdom.” Now his supporting turn as Dr. Jack Abbot, an ER doctor in Max’s “The Pitt,” is earning him a new kind of acclaim. Never mind that the character appears in less than a third of the series’ first 15 episodes.
“I’ve never experienced anything like it,” Hatosy said. Dr. Abbot works the night shift, initially only crossing paths with Noah Wyle’s Dr.

Veteran character actor Harris Yulin, whose leathery voice and understated menace enlivened everything from Scarface to Ozark, died of cardiac arrest in New York City on 10 June, his family and longtime manager Sue Leibman announced. He was 88.
Over a six-decade career Yulin amassed more than 100 screen credits. Filmgoers remember him as bent Miami detective Mel Bernstein in Brian De Palma’s 1983 gangster classic, as Judge Stephen Wexler in Ghostbusters II, and as the hawkish national-security adviser in Clear and Present Danger.
Television offered equal range: an Emmy-nominated guest turn on Frasier (1996), a chilling Cardassian impersonator on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and, most recently, Buddy Dieker, the irascible basement tenant on Netflix’s Ozark. A devoted stage actor, he debuted off-Broadway in 1963, later appearing on Broadway in Hedda Gabler, The Price and The Diary of Anne Frank, and won a Lucille Lortel Award for directing The Trip to Bountiful.
Yulin was still working.

Imagine you’re an actor, the phone rings, and it’s Alfonso Cuarón offering you a role in his next project. No audition.
That’s exactly how Leila George landed the part of young Catherine Ravenscroft in Apple TV+’s Disclaimer, alongside Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Lesley Manville. Cuarón wanted George to play Blanchett’s character in flashbacks told from differing perspectives, which would prove key to unlocking the mystery at the heart of the thriller.
Opposite such powerhouse acting talent, George found a way to make the role her own — so much so that Cuarón, who had originally intended to just use her as a body double, decided instead to let her performance stand fully on its own.
