Image
When we compiled our list of the 25 best anime movies ever made last year, no fewer than five Studio Ghibli films made the cut. And you can check out the sumptuous 4K trailer for the re-release below;

Did someone just open a window because there's a serious case of chills coming on over here. But seriously, as if you needed any reminding, how staggeringly beautiful — and, of course, epic — does this new restoration look? Even on a laptop screen the...

The Surprising List of Actresses Who Almost Played Andy Sachs Before Anne Hathaway in The Devil Wears Prada
Image
Anne Hathaway almost didn’t play Andy Sachs. Discover which actresses were nearly cast in The Devil Wears Prada before her.

Anne Hathaway is now synonymous with the iconic role of Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada, but few know that she was actually the ninth choice to star in the hit 2006 film. Years after its release, the truth behind the casting continues to astonish—especially since several high-profile actresses came very close to landing the lead role.

The revelation came from Hathaway herself during a television interview, where she confessed that many studios and producers didn’t initially see her as the best fit for a story set in the competitive world of fashion. However, her persistence—and the withdrawal of other candidates—eventually worked in her favour.

Among the actresses considered before Hathaway were several well-known names who, at the time, had a more commercially bankable profile.

Kate Winslet’s British Origin Explained: How Did the Titanic Star Break into Hollywood?
Image
Kate Winslet is one of the finest actresses in the industry today. She first appeared in an episode of the British TV series Dark Season at the age of fifteen in 1991. Her first role that received wide recognition was Peter Jackson’s Heavenly Creatures, where she played a teenage killer. However, it was James Cameron’s Titanic that catapulted her into worldwide fame.

Despite a nomination, she didn’t win the Oscar for the role. Interestingly, a couple of years earlier, she had won the BAFTA and earned an Oscar nod for playing Marianne Dashwood in Emma Thompson’s British film Sense and Sensibility. She later won the Academy Award for playing a former Nazi camp guard in The Reader.

Her roles in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Little Children, Revolutionary Road, and recently in Avatar: The Way of Water were all praised by critics and fans. For her...

'Ocean's Eleven' Star's, 54, Hit Legal Drama Finds a Streaming Home Ahead of New TV Series Adaptation
Image
1997 marked the establishment of Matt Damon as a household name. His greatest accomplishment of that year, of course, is the beloved Good Will Hunting, which he co-wrote with Ben Affleck and co-starred in with Affleck and Robin Williams, catapulting him to immediate success. However, less than a month prior, he got the chance to be the leading man in The Rainmaker, an adaptation of John Grisham's 1995 novel of the same name, written and directed by The Godfather mastermind Francis Ford Coppola. In the context of Damon's career, the legal drama largely exists in the shadow of the titanic roles that came after, from The Departed to Ocean's Eleven, The Martian, and beyond. Starting on July 1, though, viewers will have a chance to revisit the acclaimed film on Paramount+.

The Rainmaker pairs Damon up with Danny DeVito in one of the It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia star's rare dramatic roles.

4 dramas worth looking forward to on Netflix in the final half of 2025
Image
Goodness, Netflix is about to deliver the drama. Sure, the streaming giant has already brought us a bunch of drama and thrillers in the first half of 2025, but Netflix has scheduled even more for the rest of the year.

Will all the following be released? They are supposed to be. One already has a release date, but the rest do not.

They were part of the slate of series that Netflix announced would be coming out at some point this year, but the lack of firm release dates should make us nervous. Surely, Netflix would not lie to us, right? At least, these potentially great shows are arriving at some point.

4 dramas Netflix fans will not want to miss that are scheduled in the second half of 2025The Beast in Me (sometime in 2025)

The plot follows a successful author, played by Claire Danes, who has suffered a personal tragedy and removes herself from public life.

15 Best TV Shows Like Netflix's The Night Agent
Image
Conspiracies, political intrigue, and a lone agent who sets out not only to stop the bad guys but save the country. It's a tried-and-true formula, and maybe that's why "The Night Agent" has been such a big hit for Netflix (even though they almost turned it down). The series follows in the footsteps of many political thriller TV shows, as audiences partake in the journey of Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), who becomes entangled in a far-reaching conspiracy about a mole within the United States government.

Fans reacted overwhelmingly positive to the series, with the first season remaining one of the most-watched Netflix seasons of all time. Season 2 didn't disappoint when it came out in 2025, garnering 13.9 million views within its first four days. All of this is to say that it's not too surprising that season 3 of "The Night Agent" is in the works. However, if you're looking for something similar...

Campaigning while canceled: ‘Étoile’ could follow these other deep-sixed shows to Emmy glory
Image
It was a classic late-Friday news dump: Amazon confirmed that Étoile, the splashy ballet-themed Prime Video dramedy from the Emmy-winning team of Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) had been canceled after one season. The timing was curious: the news broke on June 6, just one week before Emmy voting was set to begin.

Although Étoile has been canceled, the campaign continues. There are billboards and trade ads touting the positive reviews and making a play for votes. Given the publicity surrounding Étoile and the Palladinos' track record (they have 10 Emmys in 24 bids between them), there's a chance that when nominations come out on July 15, Étoile could make the cut. And if it did, it wouldn't be an outlier.

Four years ago, in July 2021, Lovecraft Country received a whopping 18 Emmy nominations for its first and only season, leaving many stunned that a canceled show nabbed the fifth most...

Jessica Biel Recounts Weird 'The Notebook' Audition With Ryan Gosling
Image
Jessica Biel — a performer in films like The Illusionist and Blade: Trinity, and the TV series The Sinner and Candy — had yet to land her breakout role until she starred in the 2003 remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Back then, Biel was still convinced she hadn't found the role that would change her life. However, during the production of the horror film, she had the opportunity to audition for a film that she was sure would launch her into stardom. The problem is that her audition for the lead role in The Notebook didn't go well. The 7th Heaven actor is sure that it was because of the heavy effects makeup she could not remove before auditioning opposite Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling.

Mission: Impossible vs Marvel: Can Tom Cruise Finally Take Back the Box Office Throne? (Photo Credit – Instagram/Prime Video)

Tom Cruise returns to the big screen to close out the crucial chapter of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, and quite possibly to “rescue” the theatrical business stateside and abroad. After seven years in production alongside its predecessor, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning faces box office pressure that makes its title feel more literal than narrative. The stakes are high — not just in North America but worldwide — as Cruise and Paramount once again set their sights on the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s global earnings.

Despite being the highest-grossing film series of all time, the MCU, and Marvel in general, have been repeatedly defeated at the box office by Mission: Impossible. In fact, until its third billion-dollar flick, the MCU had not beaten the Impossible Mission Force (Imf) in ticket admissions.

5 Twilight Characters Who Could Totally Lead Their Spin-Off (Photo Credit – Instagram)

It’s been years since Twilight first stormed into pop culture, but let’s be honest—its grip never really loosened. The books had readers hooked, and the movies turned the saga into a full-blown phenomenon. While the central trio, Bella, Edward, and Jacob, were the heart and soul of the film franchise. Twilight also introduced many intriguing characters who frequently didn’t get the screen time they deserved.

What if some of those supporting characters were given their spotlight? So here are the five Twilight characters who could definitely carry a spinoff series or film, and they might even surpass the original.

1) Carlisle Cullen

Peter Facinelli’s portrayal of Carlisle Cullen is immediately fatal, from his killing looks to his intense presence. As a vampire who somehow manages to maintain his humanity in a society founded on bloodlust,...

The Shawshank Redemption Hid A Chilling Truth About Brooks Hatlen – Here’s What Was Left Out!
Image
Did You Know The Shawshank Redemption Skipped A Chilling Truth About Brooks? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)

In The Shawshank Redemption, not everything is spelled out. The film holds back in places, leaving gaps that viewers might fill or simply accept as part of the mystery. One of the more understated ambiguities concerns Brooks Hatlen, the elderly prison librarian whose life outside Shawshank collapses almost as soon as it begins.

He is remembered for his soft demeanor, bond with a pet crow named Jake, and heartbreaking inability to adjust to the world beyond prison walls. But what’s never made clear in the movie is the actual reason for his decades-long incarceration.

Brooks Hatlen’s Actual Dark Past vs What Was Shown In The Movie

While the film touches on Brooks’ past only in passing, labeling him vaguely an “old crook,” the source material paints a much darker picture. Stephen King...

When Titanic sailed into theaters in 1997, it didn’t just become a box office juggernaut but a generational landmark. James Cameron’s epic love story set aboard the ill-fated Titanic captivated millions, turning Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet into household names practically overnight. The film went on to win 11 Academy Awards and became one of the highest-grossing movies of all time.

But many people don’t know that Kate Winslet wasn’t the first actress considered for the role of Rose. Before Winslet stepped into the character that would define her early career, the filmmakers were eyeing someone else entirely. And their first preference was none other than Romeo + Juliet star Claire Danes.

At the time, DiCaprio and Danes had just finished filming the modern Shakespearean adaptation, and their on-screen chemistry was undeniable. So, when Titanic came around,...

On Henry Cavill’s 42nd Birthday, You Should Watch Him Play a Jerk in a Blonde Wig in This Movie From 2007, Stardust
Image
Many fans would’ve forgotten that Daredevil and Superman acted together in a 2007 romantic fantasy film. A young Henry Cavill wore a blonde wig and played the pompous jerk Humphrey in Stardust, a movie starring Charlie Cox. The film is based on a story by Neil Gaiman, with Argylle director Matthew Vaughn helming it.

It is no wonder that you don’t remember seeing him in the film, because his role was relatively small and the film had a star-studded cast. However, Cavill’s breakout role came after this film in the medieval series, The Tudors. His role in Man of Steel in 2013 would earn him international recognition.

Crystal Lake: Friday the 13th TV series moves forward; production offices are now open
Kevin Bacon, Adrienne King, Ari Lehman, Robbi Morgan, Betsy Palmer, and Jeannine Taylor in Vendredi 13 (1980)
On Halloween of 2022, it was announced that original Friday the 13th screenwriter Victor Miller – fresh off winning the U.S. copyright to the 1980 film after a lawsuit that stretched on for years – was teaming up with his lawyer Marc Toberoff, franchise rights holder Rob Barsamian, production company A24, the Peacock streaming service, and showrunner Bryan Fuller (whose credits include Hannibal and Pushing Daisies) to develop a new Friday the 13th streaming series called Crystal Lake. Things were moving ahead at a good pace, filming was expected to begin last July, but then the project hit a speed bump at the end of April with the firing of Fuller and his frequent collaborator Jim Danger Gray. Things got back on track in late August with the hiring of a new showrunner – and that person is Brad Caleb Kane, who also serves as co-showrunner and executive producer of It: Welcome to Derry,...

When Leonardo DiCaprio Revealed How Romeo + Juliet Left Him In Shambles: “I Had So Much Emotional Stuff To Do”
Image
How Did Romeo + Juliet Affect Leonardo DiCaprio? (Photo Credit –Prime Video)

Back in 1996, Leonardo DiCaprio was wrecked. Not just once or twice, but nearly every time the director called “action” on Romeo + Juliet. At just 21, the rising star dove deep into the emotional whirlpool of Shakespeare’s most tragic lover, leaving him in literal shambles.

DiCaprio admitted he had to build a ritual just to survive the shoot. “I had so much emotional stuff to do in this movie, more than any other film I’d done. I mean, usually there’s some scenes where you’re sort of wrecked and crying, but here, in almost every other scene I was in a shambles” (via Cheat Sheet). The solution? Self-inflicted heartbreak.

He said Baz Luhrmann understood his process: letting him step away before scenes to spiral into darker places mentally. Leonardo DiCaprio would sit alone, try to tap into disturbing thoughts,...

Timothee Chalamet Made His Acting Debut In A Forgotten Law & Order Episode
Image
Many regular theater-goers in New York likely play the following game. Before the show begins, try to guess how many of the actors you're about to see have been on an episode of "Law & Order" or one of its spinoffs. It may be wise to guess a number north of 15. After that, you open your Playbill and look through the actors' credits to confirm your guess. The person who comes closest without going over wins; everyone else has to pay for their meal after the show.

The "Law & Order" franchise has, as of this writing, close to 1,400 episodes under its belt, and each one of those episodes required at least one dead body and at least two suspects. This makes the property a hoop through which every working actor (especially in New York) has to inevitably jump. It's like entering the cave and taking the sword at the...

"A Very Different Take": 'Juliet & Romeo' Trailer Delivers a Spectacular Fusion of Pop Music and Shakesperean Romance [Exclusive]
Image
The city of Verona is about to be filled with pop music this summer with the release of Juliet & Romeo, and yes, you read those names in the right order. A new spin on William Shakespeare's legendary tale of love and tragedy is coming soon from director Timothy Scott Bogart, taking direct inspiration from the same 1301 tale that spurred the Bard to craft the most famous lovers in all of fiction. It'll see Juliet and her Romeo, played by Black Mirror's Clara Rugaard and The Last Supper's Jamie Ward, respectively, not just defying the long-standing feud between the Montagues and the Capulets but the very conventions of Shakespeare's timeless story. As part of Collider's Exclusive Preview event for summer movies, we can share the official trailer for the musical film along with a conversation with the director, teasing the star-crossed romance ahead.

From the very beginning of the trailer,...

When Sarah Michelle Gellar Nearly Landed The Role Of A Lifetime Opposite Leonardo DiCaprio In This Classic Movie
Image
Why Did Sarah Michelle Geller Mis Out On An Iconic Role Opposite Leonardo DiCaprio? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Before Titanic turned Leonardo DiCaprio into a global obsession, he nearly shared the screen with another ‘90s icon-in-the-making: Sarah Michelle Gellar. Yep, Buffy herself almost scored the part of Juliet in Baz Luhrmann’s wild, modern take on Romeo + Juliet. But as fate would have it, one glance sealed the deal for someone else.

Back in 1996, Gellar was still hustling for a film breakthrough. She’d already snagged a Daytime Emmy for her role as Kendall Hart on All My Children, but most of her credits lived on the small screen. Her big screen resume? Pretty slim. A minor role in High Stakes from 1989 and a few near misses, including Clueless.

But Romeo + Juliet? That was the one that stung. She auditioned for Juliet Capulet alongside a loaded list of future stars.

Sisterhood on Screen: How ‘Little Women’ Adaptations Capture the Bonds Among Women
Emma Watson, Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, and Eliza Scanlen in Les Filles du docteur March (2019)
Few stories in literature glorify sisterhood as well as “Little Women.” Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 novel is more than just about romance, ambition, and societal expectations; it is also a love letter to the unshakable tie between sisters. The March sisters—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—all have different personalities, desires, and challenges, but their love for one another is the story’s beating heart. Throughout the years, several “Little Women” movie adaptations have brought this relationship to life in unique ways, portraying the warmth, rivalry, and profound emotional connection that constitute sisterhood.

Some emphasize the nostalgic comfort of family, while others focus on the intricacies and conflicts that come with growing up together. These films remind us that sisterhood is never perfect, but it is always powerful. One of the reasons “Little Women” remains popular is that it depicts sisterhood in all of its messy, incredible complexities. The March...
