Long Awaited 'Baywatch' Reboot Finally Gets Hot Update
Image
Last year, the long-gestating Baywatch reboot swam to Fox with hopes of bringing over-the-top California beach action back to the small screen. Now, according to Fremantle COO Bob McCourt, things are heating up for a return of red swimsuits, daring rescues, and plenty of lifeguard drama. During an Nem event in Dubrovnik, Croatia, McCourt shared that "We’re in advanced talks with Fox in the U.S. about the Baywatch reboot," with a series order appearing to be close at hand. He says the newfound momentum for the series stems from Fremantle's extensive efforts to bring the original series to viewers through a dedicated Fast channel, which has since become the company's second most popular offering.

Fremantle has been eyeing bringing back Baywatch for a while. The company originally acquired the rights to the series back in 2018, though the disastrous release of the 18% Rotten Tomatoes 2017 movie starring Dwayne Johnson and...

Adam Scott's Boy Meets World Role, Explained
Image
Before his Emmy Award nomination for "Severance" (the mind-bending second season of which is currently underway on Apple TV+) playing a man who literally splits his working and personal lives, or starring on the beloved sitcom "Parks & Recreation," Adam Scott was one of several guest stars on "Boy Meets World" who went on to make it big. The ABC sitcom was part of the popular T.G.I.F. Friday night programming from 1993-2000 before re-running on the Disney Channel and ABC Family. "Boy Meets World" follows a neurotic 11-year-old through his school years as he navigates becoming a better person with the help of his wise teacher Mr. Feeny, a romantic relationship with his one true love Topanga, and social class differences with his best buddy Shawn.

"Boy Meets World" was one of Adam Scott's first acting jobs, and even though his role as the high school bully Griff Hawkins was brief,...

Where Baywatch's Yasmine Bleeth Is Now
Image
Yasmine Bleeth was once a major star thanks to her role on Baywatch but has since disappeared from the public eye. The 1989 Baywatch TV show, which led to the ill-advised 2017 movie, was an 11-season primetime soap opera about a team of lifeguards who patrol the beaches of California (and Hawaii in seasons 10 and 11). The guards face the expected ocean dangers such as drownings, shark attacks, and dangerous weather, but they also experience conflicts more befitting an HBO crime drama, like serial killers and thieves, all of which they end up being responsible for.

Baywatch is well known for its large ensemble, but a few actors emerged as fan favorites and became synonymous with the series. Some fans are all about David Hasselhoff as Mitch Buchannon, while others prefer Pamela Anderson as C. J. Parker. Still, others have a soft spot for Yasmine Bleeth as Caroline Holden, and those fans, like many,...

What Is the Cast of “Baywatch” Doing Right Now?
Image
The show Baywatch has become a staple in pop culture and has received widespread popularity around the world. The series is known for its ensemble cast of actors, bright red swimsuits, running scenes, and ridiculous storylines. Though it was initially canceled after the first season, its syndicated run made it the most-watched TV show in the world.

The highlight of the series is its ensemble cast of actors who have become prominent stars now. From David Hasselhoff to Yasmine Bleeth, many actors had their breakthrough with Baywatch. They have gone on to do a diverse range of work since the end of the series in 2001.

1. David Hasselhoff – Mitch Buchannon David Hasselhoff in Baywatch | Credits: NBC

Probably the most well-known (behind Pamela Anderson) of the cast, David Hasselhoff played the lead, Captain Buchannon, in Baywatch. The actor appeared in the most number of episodes in the series, starring in over 206 episodes.

Michael Newman Dies: ‘Baywatch’ Actor Was 68
Image
Baywatch alum Michael Newman has died, 18 years after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease.

Newman died “from heart complications’ on Sunday, October 20, “surrounded by his family and friends,” his friend Matt Felker, who recently directed the Hulu docuseries After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, confirmed to People.

Newman became known for his role as lifeguard Mike “Newmie” Newman in NBC’s Baywatch, in which he appeared in 150 episodes from 1989 to 2000. Newman was the only cast member on the show who was actually a lifeguard. He had worked as an L.A. County lifeguard for 20 years, beginning at age 10 as a Santa Monica Junior Lifeguard.

Baywatch, an action drama series about lifeguards who patrol the beaches of Los Angeles County and Hawaii, was canceled after one season on NBC but survived in syndication, eventually becoming the most-watched series worldwide with over 1.1 billion viewers. Created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Gregory J. Bonann,...

Why Baywatch Was Canceled After Only 1 Season (& How It Was Saved)
Image
Baywatch almost ended after season 1 due to low viewership and studio issues. David Hasselhoff purchased the rights, brought back the show, and turned it into a global success. Baywatch became a massive hit, reaching 1.1 billion viewers, a record yet to be repeated.

Baywatch is one of the most widely recognizable shows of all time, but the series almost ended after season 1. Baywatch was a cultural phenomenon throughout the entire run from 1989 to 2001, and it has remained a part of the zeitgeist ever since thanks to reruns, and a rebooted movie. However, despite being incredibly popular, the show always faced challenges, with negative or mixed reviews, and criticisms around the show's central themes.

While the show ultimately ran for 11 seasons, with 242 episodes in the main show, and multiple spin-offs, the show faced challenges. Things could have ended before they'd ever really begun when the show was canceled by NBC after the first season.

‘Baywatch’ Four-Part Docuseries, Featuring Never-Aired Pamela Anderson Interview, Set to Run in August on Hulu
Image
Hulu, which touched on the legacy of “Baywatch” as part of its 2022 scripted limited series “Pam & Tommy,” is heading back to the beach. The streamer is set to premiere the four-part ABC News Studios docuseries “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun” on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

Matthew Felker (“Public Figure”) is the producer and director behind the project, which began production in 2019 as “Baywatch: The Documentary” before evolving into “After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun” and landing ABC News Studios as the series’ production company.

Per the longline, the docuseries promises “a nostalgic and insightful exploration of ‘Baywatch,’ the cultural phenomenon that defined an era, and an unprecedented look into the stars who brought the world’s most famous lifeguards to life. Through dozens of new cast interviews and never-before-seen footage, this docuseries unpacks how the show captured the mythology of California’s beach culture, set physical beauty standards for an entire generation,...

Pamela Anderson to star opposite Liam Neeson in Akiva Schaffer’s The Naked Gun reboot
Image
Find a place to display your beaver prominently and order some Titan condoms from Amazon because Pamela Anderson is joining Liam Neeson for The Naked Gun reboot. While today’s Deadline article fails to mention who Anderson is playing, we assume she’ll play the romantic lead opposite Neeson’s Frank Drebin Jr. Lisa Marie Presley played the love interest of Leslie Nielsen’s Lt. Frank Drebin in the original comedy film, resulting in some unforgettable and hilarious moments and sight gags.

After filming 110 episodes of the jiggly action TV series Baywatch, Pamela Anderson is no stranger to comedy. In addition to running in slow motion alongside David Hasselhoff, Yasmine Bleeth, Jeremy Jackson, and more, Anderson starred in Scary Movie 3 and Superhero Movie. The Naked Gun reboot carries a lot of pressure from fans of the Leslie Nielsen-led trilogy, but I’ve got a great feeling about this inspired casting choice.

Baywatch Reboot Now in the Works at Fox
Image
Fox and Fremantle are rebooting Baywatch with significant script and full commitment, bringing back iconic lifeguard drama to the screen. Lara Olsen is showrunner for this action-packed series featuring ocean rescues and the return of the iconic red bathing suits. Despite a failed 2017 movie reboot, Fox is reviving lifeguard-based shows, adding Rescue: Hi-Surf to the lineup in fall 2024.

A reboot of Baywatch is now in the works courtesy of Fox Entertainment and Fremantle. According to a report by Deadline, a new Baywatch series has now been given a “significant script plus penalty commitment,” suggesting that the studios have a lot of faith in the reboot project which, much like the original, will follow the lives and adventures of a team of lifeguards who patrol the beaches of Los Angeles County, California.

Private Practice, 90210, and Spinning Out’s Lara Olsen has written the Baywatch reboot series and will serve as showrunner.

Baywatch Reboot Announced at Fox; Network Promises "Action-Packed" Take on Iconic '90s Series
David Hasselhoff
Fox is taking viewers back to the beach with a reboot of an iconic '90s series.

According to a new report from Deadline, the network has joined forces with the indie studio Fremantle to bring David Hasselhoff's beach rescue drama Baywatch back to the small screen.

The remake is being described as an “action-packed” take on the original material, with Lara Olsen serving as showrunner.

It looks as though Hasselhoff, Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, and the other stars of the original series are not involved with the reboot at this time.

But we wouldn't be surprised if the Hoff and company wind up making cameos.

Interestingly, the new version of Baywatch is one of two lifeguard dramas set to premiere on Fox in the year to come.

Following strike delays, Rescue: Hi-Surf is set to debut in the fall of 2024.

The original Baywatch debuted on NBC back in...

An “action-packed” Baywatch reboot is kicking up sand and bouncing over to Fox for more lifeguard drama
Image
Slow-motion isn’t just for Zack Snyder films anymore! A Baywatch reboot is in the works at Fox, and the beach will never be the same again! Fox is requesting a sizable script and a penalty deal for the time-honored (and arguably horny) lifeguard drama, with Fremantle and Fox Entertainment co-producing.

We’ve known about a Baywatch reboot since April when Deadline reported Fremantle’s desire to bring fun in the sun back to televisions. At the time, Fox was developing another lifeguard drama, Rescue: Hi-Surf, from John Wells Productions. Rescue, a co-production between Warner Bros. TV and Fox Entertainment, is still going forward, with a fall 2024 launch as the project’s window. Regardless of prepping Rescue: Hi-Surf, Fox is ready to hit the sands with more than one lifeguard drama, hence the Baywatch reboot.

The new “action-packed” Baywatch reboots hails from writer and showrunner Lara Olsen. According to Deadline‘s description,...

‘Baywatch’ Reboot Lands at Fox
Image
Like the end of a slo-mo music montage on the beach, “Baywatch” reboot has found a home: Fox has closed on a script+penalty deal for a new version of the long-running surf-sand-and-saviors series from Fremantle.

Fox and Fremantle have tapped Lara Olsen (“Spinning Out”) to serve as showrunner for the new “Baywatch,” which was originally created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Gregory J. Bonann. Starring David Hasselhoff, “Baywatch” originally ran from 1989 to 1999 and then was retooled as “Baywatch: Hawaii” from 1999 to 2001.

Olsen, Berk, Bonann and Schwartz will serve as exec producers on the one-hour drama, which comes from both Fremantle and Fox Entertainment. Here’s the new logline: “Daring ocean rescues, pristine beaches, and iconic red bathing suits are back, along with a whole new generation of Baywatch lifeguards, who navigate complicated, messy personal lives in this action-packed reboot that demonstrates there’s the family you’re born...

‘Baywatch’ Reboot Lands At Fox With Sizable Commitment
Image
Fox is doubling down on lifeguard dramas with a significant script plus penalty commitment to Baywatch, a reboot of the classic beach series. The new iteration is a co-production between Fremantle and Fox Entertainment.

Deadline revealed exclusively last April that Fremantle was working on a Baywatch remake. At the time, Fox already had started conversations with the indie studio for the potential series while also developing another lifeguard drama franchise, Rescue: Hi-Surf, from John Wells Prods. The latter, a co-production between Warner Bros. TV and Fox Entertainment, was subsequently picked up to series for the 2023-24 season; it is now on track for a fall 2024 launch due to strike-related delays.

Meanwhile, Fox remained interested in Baywatch, potentially as a summer series.

The new “action-packed” Baywatch reboot is written by Lara Olsen who will serve as showrunner. In it, daring ocean rescues, pristine beaches, and iconic red bathing suits are back,...

Friends: 10 Best Moments With The Chick & The Duck
Image
The chick and the duck made lasting impressions on Chandler and Joey's lives, appearing in 18 episodes and becoming a part of their little family. The animals provided comedic moments and helped Chandler and Joey grow as characters throughout the show. Joey's new pets, a chick and a duck, were a meaningful gesture from Joey to Chandler in the series finale, reflecting their deep bond.

Two of the most popular characters on the iconic sitcom Friends were actually a chick and a duck, who stole the show in every scene they were in. The chick and the duck, who only went by these names, were two pets acquired by roommates Chandler and Joey in Friends season 3. While the two animals only made brief, infrequent appearances before being written out after Friends season 5, their scenes were always particularly memorable, and their presence on the show proved that they made lasting marks on Chandler and Joey's lives.

‘Baywatch’ Remake In The Works At Fremantle As Buyers Circle
Image
Exclusive: Baywatch could be heading back to the small screen.

Deadline understands that Fremantle has been developing a reboot of the classic beach drama series and has held early talks with a number of broadcasters and streamers.

The move would bring back one of the biggest shows of the late 1980s and 1990s as the trend towards rebooting classic IP continues. There are currently no creatives attached to the reboot.

The series made international stars of the likes of David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson.

Created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Gregory J. Bonann, the series followed a group of lifeguards who patrolled the beaches of LA County. Originally produced by Gannett for NBC, the show was canceled after one season.

However, the Baywatch producers bought back the rights and produced a syndicated version with All American Television with the help of financing from German distributor Beta Taurus, part of...

Chandler's Celebrity Cheat List Creates A Weird Friends Paradox
Image
Friends has various continuity mistakes and paradoxes, and among them is one involving Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) and one of the celebrities in his cheat list, and it’s a very weird one. Over the course of 10 seasons, viewers saw the main characters of Friends go through many ups and downs in all areas of their lives, mostly in their love lives. In the end, all of them (except for Joey) found their “lobsters” and started their own families, but they went through a lot to get to that.

Monica, Chandler, Joey, Phoebe, Rachel, and Ross were very open with each other about all aspects of their lives, such as when they all discussed their list of celebrity “freebies”. Most of the names the group mentioned as part of their lists ended up creating celebrity paradoxes, but one in particular is quite strange. Said paradox is created by Chandler and his list,...

The Staggering Weirdness of Baywatch Nights
Mark Harrison Sep 30, 2019

Remember 1995's Baywatch Nights? Oh, we 'member a whole pile of David Hasselhoff-starring strangeness...

This article originally appeared on Den of Geek UK.

For younger readers, the original Baywatch was an action drama that charted the professional and personal lives of county lifeguards in Los Angeles, saving people from drowning but also tackling other seaside perils like sharks, earthquakes and serial killers. The show was almost cancelled after its disappointing first season in 1989, but thanks to the efforts of producer and star David Hasselhoff, it was resuscitated for first-run syndication and found huge international success over the following ten seasons.

The conventional wisdom that brought us 2017's Baywatch film with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, along with so many other reboots, is that something is easier to market if it has already existed in some form than if it's entirely original, and that same logic has applied...

The Staggering Weirdness of Baywatch Nights
Mark Harrison Oct 1, 2018

Remember 1995's Baywatch Nights? Oh, we 'member a whole pile of David Hasselhoff-starring strangeness...

This article originally appeared on Den of Geek UK.

When we look back on Dwayne Johnson's breakthrough to the A-list in about ten years' time (“Did President Johnson get the film roles he deserved?”), we'll have to consider that his status as franchise viagra, as demonstrated in Baywatch, has led him to pick projects that are sort of beneath him.

Baywatch is the latest in a line of formerly popular TV shows to get an ironic Starsky & Hutch-style big screen reboot, following the enormous success of the Jump Street movies and the resounding failure of this year's ChiPS. With tongue firmly in cheek, Johnson has been promoting the film on his Instagram by referring to his new crew of lifeguards, including Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, and Kelly Rohrbach, as...

Movie Review: Baywatch is even emptier than its source material
Nobody cares about Baywatch. With the exception of David Hasselhoff, Eastern European villages where it still runs in syndication, or Yasmine Bleeth’s lawyer, no one particularly harbors a lingering appreciation for the series that nevertheless lasted 11 seasons, spanning the entirety of the 1990s, yet leaving next to no cultural impact besides its unaccountable global popularity. When Baywatch is remembered at all, it’s for the most superficial of signifiers: Playboy Playmates in red swimsuits running in slow motion across sandy beaches, either toward or away from Hasselhoff’s hairy torso. There are no lasting, iconic characters, no memorable episodes fondly recalled. Baywatch is the rare work of pop culture that was already an empty, kitschy joke as it aired.

In many ways, this should work to the advantage of Seth Gordon’s Baywatch, a film inspired by the TV series and, more specifically, by those vague vestiges of ...

Baywatch Trailer #2 Has Zac Efron and The Rock Going Deep Undercover
Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Alexandra Paul, David Hasselhoff, David Chokachi, Gena Lee Nolin, and Jaason Simmons in Alerte à Malibu (1989)
Get ready for a whole lot of good-looking people doing raunchy stuff at the beach because a brand new trailer for Baywatch has been released. Warning: this trailer is most definitely Nsfw so, if you're going to watch it at your desk, you should probably at the very least put on your headphones first. This new trailer definitely goes big on the raunchy humor and makes it clear that this Baywatch reboot is going to earn its R-rating.

Paramount dropped this most recent Baywatch trailer today, which could very well be the last trailer we see before Baywatch hits theaters this May. In the video, we can see the entire cast really playing up the sex jokes and the ridiculous, at times unnecessary, action. It seems like this new take on the classic 90s series is going to be taking everything that Baywatch did and, in true Spinal Tap fashion,...

Baywatch Super Bowl Spot Brings Us Back to the Beach
Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Alexandra Paul, David Hasselhoff, David Chokachi, Gena Lee Nolin, and Jaason Simmons in Alerte à Malibu (1989)
This year, moviegoers will be getting two movies that started out as successful TV shows that have been converted into R-rated comedies. Warner Bros. has CHiPs, which looks to be a whole lot of action and a whole lot of sex jokes. Whereas Paramount Pictures has their new take on Baywatch, which looks to also have a lot of action and sex jokes, but they have The Rock and a bunch of good looking people in swimsuits on their side. That gave them the confidence to drop some big money and release a new trailer for Baywatch during the Super Bowl.

Dwayne Johnson teased the brand new trailer would be airing during the big game on his Instagram yesterday. In his post, he joked about the fact that he was the only guy wearing sneakers on the beach, but also that he has two trailers airing during the Super Bowl this year,...

Baywatch Movie Trailer: Zac Efron and the Rock Save the Beach
Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Alexandra Paul, David Hasselhoff, David Chokachi, Gena Lee Nolin, and Jaason Simmons in Alerte à Malibu (1989)
Are you ready to see Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron running in slow motion on the beach together? If you answered yes, then you're in luck, because the first trailer for the upcoming R-rated Baywatch movie has finally landed online. This is a very different kind of Baywatch than those who grew up watching the show in the 90s are used to, but there are still lots of women running around in swimsuits, only this time they are joined by The Rock and some Nsfw comedy. So there'll surely be a lot more cursing and possibly even some nudity.

Paramount decided to release the trailer online this week shortly after moving back the release of the Baywatch movie by a week. That decision was likely influenced by the fact that 20th Century Fox recently bumped up the release of Ridley Scott's Alien: Covenant by nearly three months to May...

Baywatch Movie Wraps; Official Cast Photo Released

Dwayne Johnson has become such a huge star that it may be hard to keep up with every single thing he has in production. But anyone who follows him on any form of social media has probably noticed he's been working on the new Baywatch movie. As of today, production has wrapped on the rated R comedy. The Rock officially announced the news first to his social media followers, with the TV adaptation due in theaters May 19, 2017. Dwayne Johnson seemed enthusiastic, saying this.

"That's an official wrap! We had a blast pushing the rated R envelope on this one. See ya next summer! #Baywatch."

In addition to the announcement that production on the film has wrapped, the studio also released the first official image, courtesy of EW, featuring the movie's primary cast in the style of a postcard, which is kindly reminding fans that they will "see you next summer.

'Baywatch' Movie Cast Goes Topless in Latest Set Photo
Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Alexandra Paul, David Hasselhoff, David Chokachi, Gena Lee Nolin, and Jaason Simmons in Alerte à Malibu (1989)
The new Baywatch movie is definitely a comedy. If you weren't sure, the latest photo from the set shared by Dwayne Johnson on his official Instagram page assures us of that. It shows The Rock and Zac Efron putting their glorious six-packs on display. While it looks like co-star Jon Bass has been interested in a different kind of six-pack altogether. The confident young man shows off his much more realistic psyche as he sets out to save those in need of a good beach rescue. Says Dwayne Johnson about this latest photo.

"The Boys of #Baywatch are some bad ass dudes. We have a lot of cool things in our movie. R-Rated comedy, hard core action, beautiful ass kicking women, the unforgiving and majestic ocean, Zac's 17 pack abs, and most important our #1 secret weapon...@thejonbass."

Ever since Paramount's Baywatch started filming last month, fans have been treated to a slew of set photos courtesy of stars Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. However, it's rare that we've seen several cast members assemble at the same time. Yesterday, Dwayne Johnson shared the latest image through his Instagram account, featuring Zac Efron, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Ilfenesh Hadera, Kelly Rohrbach and Jon Bass, all in full costume. Here's what Dwayne Johnson had to say about this new image.

David Hasselhoff and Dwayne Johnson Team-Up in New 'Baywatch' Photos
David Hasselhoff
Earlier this month, Dwayne Johnson sent out a new video from the Baywatch set, which revealed that the original Mitch Buchannon, David Hasselhoff, has come aboard for a role in the movie. Since Dwayne Johnson has taken over the Mitch Buchannon role, we still don't know anything about who David Hasselhoff is playing. But today we got our first glimpse of The Hoff on the set, thanks to photos sent out through social media by The Rock, Zac Efron and David Hasselhoff himself. Here's what Dwayne Johnson had to say about his new co-star on his Instagram page.

"In the 80's he drove the coolest car on the planet. In the 90's he dominated slo-mo running on the beach with the most successful TV show of all time. And today he's simply Still the f'n man. Phenomenal day on set with my brotha - the Og himself David Hasselhoff -...
