Joe Don Baker in The Commission (2003)

Trivia

Joe Don Baker

Edit
  • Said in an interview that if he ever met the writers of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (1988) he would "kick [their] asses" for their grilling of Liquidez l'inspecteur Mitchell (1975). This did not stop them from sending up another one of Baker's films, Final Justice (1985), in which they ridicule him even more. Baker later said the threat was a joke.
  • Along with Charles Gray, who played both Dikko Henderson in On ne vit que deux fois (1967) and 'Ernst Stavro Blofeld' in Les diamants sont éternels (1971), Baker is one of only two actors to play both a major Bond nemesis, Brad Whitaker in Tuer n'est pas jouer (1987), and a significant Bond ally, Jack Wade in GoldenEye (1995) and Demain ne meurt jamais (1997).
  • While Carroll O'Connor was recovering from bypass surgery, Baker appeared in O'Connor's place on In the Heat of the Night (1988) as Tom Dugan.
  • He appeared in three films with Pierce Brosnan in as many years: GoldenEye (1995), Mars Attacks! (1996) and Demain ne meurt jamais (1997).
  • Graduated from North Texas State (now known as the University of North Texas).
  • Was an admirer of actors Robert Mitchum and Spencer Tracy.
  • Studied at the Actors Studio in New York City following a stint in the army.
  • Was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity.
  • The January 28, 1976, issue of Variety, in the Film Production section, lists the movie "Fifty-Two Pickup" which began filming Dec. 21, 1975 in Israel, director Menahem Golan, starring Joe Don Baker, Trish Van Devere, Bruce Davison, and John Marley through Golan-Globus Productions. Golan-Globus delayed it until 1986 with a different cast and crew.
