One Battle After Another | New teaser emerges for Paul Thomas Anderson’s thriller
Image
Ahead of its September release, another glimpse at one of this year’s most anticipated films: One Battle After Another, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

Paul Thomas Anderson being given lots of money to go and make something that looks strangely close to an action film is shaping up to be 2025’s most fascinating throw of the dice for any studio. Warner Bros has already benefited once this year from backing a talented auteur with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners. We’re hoping the studio enjoys the same success with September’s One Battle After Another. While Warner Bros boss David Zaslav keeps talking about leaning into franchise films and the like, repeated hits from unique filmmakers will surely persuade him to keep investing in interesting and original cinema, too. Hopefully.

So even though Warner Bros has now released a second teaser for Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another,...

Persistence of Vision: Tom Gunning, Rockstar Academic
Image
Illustrations by Stephanie Monohan. We begin with the unprocessed burst from the flare end of the camera roll, a fleeting, almost accidental image that will mirror the film’s final fade. Then, a flurry of opaque, milky strokes begins to churn, like dancing dust particles violently uprooted by a gust of wind. This is our immediate visual field. Slowly, behind this initial wave of chalky bands—now revealing themselves as slightly more defined forms with a faster, more chaotic movement—true three-dimensionality begins to emerge. We soon start to wonder: Is there more that will come into view? Will this impression of depth keep getting deeper? A blurry, reddish figure persists in the distance, stubbornly resisting focus. Gradually, it begins to sharpen. And finally, the initial queries are resolved: The white lines are snowfall; the red is a brick wall. The endless, mysterious depth we initially perceived—a promise, perhaps,...

Weapons: runtime for the new horror film from the director of Barbarian cracks the 2 hour mark
Georgina Campbell in Barbare (2022)
Barbarian (watch it Here) writer/director Zach Cregger has assembled a strong cast for his mysterious horror project called Weapons, including Julia Garner (Ozark), Josh Brolin (No Country for Old Men), Alden Ehrenreich (Solo), Benedict Wong (Doctor Strange), Amy Madigan (Antlers), Austin Abrams (Euphoria), June Diane Raphael (Grace and Frankie), and Cary Christopher (Days of Our Lives)… and we’re going to have the chance to see that cast face the horrors Cregger has conjured up when Weapons reaches theatres on August 8th. Cregger has said that he was drawing inspiration from Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia when he was crafting this one – but now we have confirmation that his movie actually won’t be nearly as long as Magnolia. While Anderson’s movie had a running time of 188 minutes, Cregger’s film has the more bladder-friendly runtime of 128 minutes. Which is 26 minutes longer than Barbarian.

Leonardo DiCaprio Has No Fear in New Teaser for Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another
Image
We’re now less than three months away from Paul Thomas Anderson’s highly anticipated One Battle After Another. The September 26 release, which would set it up nicely for a fall festival run if PTA so desires, will feature an IMAX and 70mm roll-out. If you saw F1 this weekend, you may have noticed a fresh teaser trailer for the film unveiling new footage, which has now made its way online.

Marking the director’s long-awaited collaboration with Leonardo DiCaprio after they attempted to work together for Boogie Nights some three decades ago, the action-thriller-comedy draws from Thomas Pynchon’s sprawling 1990 novel Vineland. While the novel was set in the Reagan era, PTA has shifted to the modern day, telling the story of a father who has left behind his radical past and is now living a quiet life on the lam with his daughter. When Sean Penn’s white...

Christopher Nolan's 17-Year-Old Masterpiece Crowned His Best Movie By Industry-Led Poll
Image
Christopher Nolan had several movies appear in a new ranking of the best movies of the 21st century, but his highest-ranking movie is the one many call his masterpiece. Nolan has cemented himself as the biggest director of tentpole movies working in Hollywood today, a fact solidified by his Best Picture win for Oppenheimer.

Now Nolan has five movies named among the 100 best movies of the last 25 years in a new industry-led poll. While celebrated directors like Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson also have multiple movies on the list, Nolan has the most of any other director. However, the highest-ranked movie still stands out in his career.

The Dark Knight has been named by The New York Times as Nolan's best movie of the last 25 years, which largely makes up his entire career as a professional filmmaker. The second movie in Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy landed 28th on the list,...

In fact, at the premiere of 'Dead Reckoning - Part 1', while commenting on Harrison Ford’s return as Indiana Jones in 2023’s 'Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny', he told The Sydney Morning Herald, “I hope to keep making 'Mission: Impossible' films until I’m [Harrison Ford’s] age.” At the time, Ford was eighty-one. Since then, Cruise has only doubled down. At the New York City premiere of 'Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning',...

When we think of the essential checklists of must-see movies, film buffs tend to gravitate towards Sight & Sound or my personal favorite, They Shoot Pictures, Don’t They?’s list of the 1,000 greatest films. And while they do give just about the most well-rounded syllabus for those interested in the history of cinema, they tend to lean a bit older. While that’s good and well and necessary for a comprehensive appreciation, some might want something more modern. But instead of the widely skewed IMDb list, we now have a new one: The New York Times list of The 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century.

Coming in at #1 on the list of best movies of the 21st century was Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite, which won the Palme d’Or and also the Best Picture Oscar, becoming the first foreign language film to do so. In at #2 was David Lynch’s Mulholland Drive,...

The Director With the Most Movies After Nolan in ‘Best Films of the 21st Century’ Hasn’t Won a Single Oscar
Image
What if we told you that one of the greatest filmmakers of our time, with not one, not two, but four films on The New York Times’ list of the “Best Films of the 21st Century,” has never won an Oscar? Sounds wild, right? Welcome to the bittersweet world of Paul Thomas Anderson—cinema’s ultimate underdog genius. While Christopher Nolan rightfully takes the crown with five epic entries and an Oscar win for Oppenheimer, Anderson is right behind him, quietly owning the list with his four iconic works.

From classics like There Will Be Blood, and the hauntingly beautiful Phantom Thread, four of Paul Thomas Anderson’s projects made it into the list, and yet the director got snubbed at every Oscar season. Even Daniel Day-Lewis won an Academy Award for There Will Be Blood, but Anderson was left clapping in the audience, empty-handed. Perhaps the Academy just isn...

Image
The New York Times recently unveiled its list of the 100 Best Movies of the 21st Century, compiled from entries by over 500 filmmakers, actors, and film critics. The list includes films from some of the best directors working today, but one filmmaker stands out with an incredible five titles. While five out of 100 is only 5% of the list, it seems Christopher Nolan is the defining director of the 21st Century.

Selecting 100 movies out of the thousands that have been produced over the last quarter of a century is a tough task, but for one director to have five of those selections is something special. Nolan's movies on the list include 2014's Interstellar (#84), 2023's Oppenheimer (#65), 2000's Memento (#65), 2010's Inception (#55), and 2008's The Dark Knight (#28). Nolan beat beloved filmmakers like Steven Spielberg, Wes Anderson, Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Quentin Tarantino, David Lynch, and Bong Joon Ho, whose film Parasite took the number one spot.

Dana Nussbaum, Christian Davin and John Stanford to Head Warner Bros. Marketing and Creative Strategy (Exclusive)
Image
Longtime Warner Bros. executives Dana Nussbaum, Christian Davin and John Stanford have officially been installed to lead the motion picture group’s marketing and creative strategy teams.

Warner Bros. co-chiefs Michael DeLuca and Pam Abdy announced internally on Wednesday that Nussbaum and Davin have been named co-heads of global motion picture marketing, and Stanford will serve as head of global creative strategy. The trio have performed these roles in an interim capacity since January, when the studio experienced a major shakeup of its executive ranks as marketing chief Josh Goldstine (who’d shepherded the box office behemoth “Barbie”) stepped down and the studio’s head of international distribution Andrew Cripps also departed his role.

In a memo to staff, DeLuca and Abdy congratulated Nussbaum, Davin and Stanford on their “great success” during their interim appointment.

“They and their teams showcased innovation across every marketing discipline with the most recent campaigns for ‘Minecraft,...

Karlovy Vary to Tribute Stellan Skarsgård, Vicky Krieps, Dakota Johnson, and Peter Sarsgaard
Image
The 59th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (July 4-12) boasts not one but two competitions, the Crystal Globe and Proxima, curated by artistic director Karel Och under the supervision of executive director Kryštof Mucha. The festival is the main summer event in the country, which attracts many sponsors and patrons who want to attend, and faces fewer financial hardships than such festivals as Berlin, Toronto, and Sundance.

Last year, 130 films were shown and 140,000 tickets sold. There is little room for growth, given the limited venues, from the many screening rooms at the festival hub, the Hotel Thermal, where jurors hang out between screenings, to the colorful arthouse Kino Drahomira, named after a revered Czech woman director.

The Central European festival falls between Cannes and Venice, and programs many films in its Crystal Globe Competition that did not make the cut at Cannes, as well as films that weren’t yet finished.

Why These 5 Oscar-Winning Legends Avoid Sequels at All Costs
Image
At times, sequels are planned and necessary to give you closure, but in today’s age, they are usually cash grabs and not everyone’s cup of tea. While the industry thrives on the multi-million dollar success of a follow-up, creatives who are dedicated to their art avoid hollow sequels like the plague.

Some of the most respected actors in Hollywood, with multiple Oscar wins, have never starred in a sequel. Instead, they’ve chosen transformative roles and still stood the test of time in a franchise-dominated age. So here are the five legendary actors who carved out careers on their own terms!

‘The Phoenician Scheme’ Review

Stars: Benicio Del Toro, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Jeffrey Wright, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Bryan Cranston | Written by Wes Anderson, Roman Coppola | Directed by Wes Anderson

Wes Anderson made his directorial debut in 1996 with Bottle Rocket. Now, almost 30 years later, he’s released his 12th feature film. Anderson emerged from the 1990s wave of remarkable American directors, most famously Quentin Tarantino and Paul Thomas Anderson. In the time Wes Anderson has been making movies, he’s been more prolific than his two contemporaries. PTA has released nine feature films in the same period, and Tarantino nine over a slightly longer stretch (his debut arriving in 1992). The result of working so consistently has been a brilliant filmography over the last three decades, in which the unique director has still never let his genius slip.

For the three decades Anderson has been making movies, there have always been...

Everything We Know About Zach Cregger’s Weapons
Image
Writer/director Zach Cregger got a lot of positive attention for his 2022 horror film Barbarian – so much that there was an intense bidding war when studios and production companies found out he was working on another horror project called Weapons. Get Out, Us, and Nope filmmaker Jordan Peele wanted to produce the film through his company Monkeypaw, for release through Universal Pictures… but Peele was the runner-up in the competition, with the rights going to New Line Cinema. The company spent $38 million to secure Weapons as their own. That includes the film’s budget, as well as the $5 million Cregger will be getting for writing and directing it and a second $5 million for producing it alongside Vertigo’s Roy Lee and Miri Yoon, and BoulderLight’s J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules. We’ll find out how well that pays off for New Line Cinema when Weapons reaches theatres on August...

Clint Eastwood Rejected The Best Movie of 2024 Starring MCU Star That Was Better Than Anora
Image
The Apprentice is easily one of the riskiest and probably career-ending movies in Hollywood. Showcasing the story of a young Donald Trump, The Apprentice follows the story of Trump finding a willingness to win and to do whatever it takes to stay victorious.

However, veteran director Clint Eastwood wasn’t a big fan of the project since, although he was approached to direct the movie earlier, Eastwood allegedly chose his career’s safety over creating a good movie, and honestly, we don’t even blame him.

Clint Eastwood rejected directing the riskiest movie of 2024

Directed by Ali Abbasi, The Apprentice received average reviews and ratings, with several controversial talks about the timing of the film’s release (it was released a month before the U.S. elections).

With Sebastian Stan portraying the role of Donald Trump, the movie was very well a risky move.

Josh Brolin Searches for Missing Children in Chilling ‘Weapons’ Trailer
Image
“A lot of people die in a lot of really weird ways in this story.”

An unseen child makes this chilling promise in the latest trailer for “Weapons,” Zach Cregger’s horror epic set to hit theaters Aug. 8. You can watch the trailer yourself in the video below.

“Weapons” follows an eclectic group of characters in the wake of tragedy — one night, an entire classroom of schoolchildren wake up at 2:17 a.m. and run off into the night. The film’s first trailer and poster swears “they never came back.”

Julia Garner stars as Justine Gandy, the teacher of the disappeared children’s class. A post on the film’s tie-in site, maybrookmissing.com, reveals that Ms. Gandy only recently began teaching the class following “an incident at her previous school.” Other cast members include Josh Brolin as bereaved parent Archer Graff, Alden Ehrenreich as police officer Paul and...

Texas boosts incentive funding to $300m every two years

The state of Texas has increased funding for its production incentive programme to $300m every two years for the next decade and boosted grant percentages for lower budget films and TV programmes.

A bill calling for the increase passed into law on Monday (June 23) after being approved by the state legislature earlier this month. Texas’ Republican governor Greg Abbott could have either signed the bill or vetoed it, but instead opted to do neither and simply allow it to become law.

Funding for the programme, which offers grants rather than tax credits, has previously varied but was boosted to $200m for the 2024-2025 biennium.

The 10 Best May-December Romance Movies
Image
The 10 Best May-December Romance Movies: Far from idealized portrayals of love as pure or effortless, many of the most enduring romantic narratives explore the asymmetries that define human connection: differences in class, culture, gender roles, and age. These disparities complicate the romantic ideal, rendering love not merely as a feeling, but as a process—one that must contend with the realities of embodied experience and social expectation.

The age-gap romance, as a recurring trope in cinematic storytelling, occupies a complex space between transgressive desire and cultural fascination. One of the most provocative forms of such romantic entanglement is the “May–December” romance, a term used to describe relationships marked by a significant age difference between partners. These stories have long fascinated audiences, in part because they foreground love’s capacity to defy convention while simultaneously raising questions about power, agency, and the social norms that govern desire. The term itself...

Image
We've already seen some of the most anticipated movies of 2025, such as "Thunderbolts*" and "Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning," as well as unexpected blockbusters like "Sinners" and "Mickey 17." There's still a lot more great films to come as of this writing, some of which feature the theatrical returns of auteur directors like Spike Lee and Paul Thomas Anderson. However, you may not know that some of these highly-anticipated projects are actually inspired by books.

If you're one of the many people who believe that the movie is never better than the book it's based on, you're in luck. These 12 incredible books can be read months before they debut as major motion pictures, so you can later go watch the movie and see how it stacks up compared to the source material. From great books that Hollywood has needed to adapt into movies for a long time, to remakes of previous classic book adaptations,...

The Oscars Finally Fell in Love With Tom Cruise. It’s About Time
Image
Congratulations are clearly in order. After decades of being overlooked, underestimated and sometimes just flat-out ignored, a Hollywood mainstay is finally getting some richly deserved recognition. Bravo!

No, not to Tom Cruise for that honorary Oscar — to the Academy for making sure the world’s last remaining movie star will turn up for its next broadcast.

Let’s face it, at this point the Oscars need Cruise more than Cruise needs an Oscar, particularly an honorary one, which frequently go to stars of more mature vintage (Mel Brooks got one last year, at 97). In recent times, the show’s numbers — to say nothing of its cultural relevance — have been on the same spiraling trajectory as that biplane Cruise dangled from in the latest Mission: Impossible movie. Viewership has fallen some 66 percent since the Oscars’ peak in 1998 (Titanic year), with only about 20 million tuning in these days, about the same audience...

The Making of a Serious Man: Adam Sandler’s Quiet Evolution
Benjamin Arthur
In my years running an entertainment website, I’ve had the chance to talk to many actors, musicians, and individuals from various fields that comprise what we all know as the “entertainment industry.”

However, there was this little-known actor by the name of Benjamin Arthur, whom I was interviewing for this short-lived series called “Working the Engels.” He said something that has stuck with me since then. “It takes a smart man to play an idiot,” those were his words. Something that, as I look into many of these actors known for playing idiots on screen, many have proven to be smarter than they appear. Damn! Just right now, while she falls more into the TV personality, Paris Hilton had us all fooled into believing she was an airhead bimbo, just for later finding out it was all a rouse.

The same, I think, can be said about Sandler. I don’t know him personally,...

The session, introduced by newly promoted president of global theatrical distribution Jeff Goldstein, spotlighted the new creative leadership at Warner Bros Pictures Animation – whose first release is The Cat In The Hat, out next February – and at DC Studios, which has dubbed this summer “the summer of Superman”.

Tom Cruise movies: 17 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
With a film career that spans over four decades, Tom Cruise is arguably the biggest movie star of this generation. Cruise is associated with so many iconic film moments -- the dance in "Risky Business," the "need for speed" chant in "Top Gun," and "Show me the money!" in "Jerry Maguire," among many others -- that it seems like he's been a movie star forever.

He has been a critical darling through parts of his career but has mainly focused on blockbusters (acclaimed or not). He has received two Oscar nominations for Best Actor in "Born on the Fourth of July" (1989) and "Jerry Maguire" (1996) plus another as Best Supporting Actor in "Magnolia" (1999). Those are the three performances that provided him with Golden Globe wins. His other four nominations with the Hollywood Foreign Press were for "Risky Business" (1983), "A Few Good Men" (1992), "The Last Samurai" (2003) and "Tropic Thunder" (2008). Many of these...

‘Superman’ Flies Into Barcelona With 30 Minutes Of Footage During Warner Bros’ CineEurope Presentation
Image
In his first CineEurope outing since adding international to his purview, Warner Bros President of Global Theatrical Distribution, Jeff Goldstein, introduced the studio’s show today, capping it off with 30 minutes of DC’s July tentpole Superman, starring David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan and Nicholas Hoult.

The start of the footage was similar to what exhibition saw at CinemaCon in April (which director James Gunn also dropped online during that week), but went well further in an exclusive reveal today. It was teed up first by a local musician playing the iconic theme on stage with an electric guitar, and then in a video from DC chiefs Peter Safran and Gunn. The duo wasn’t here in person as the team is embarking on a global tour today, starting in the Philippines.

In the video message, Safran called Superman the beginning of a “bold new era for DC.” He also touted...

After “Saving Hollywood’s Ass,” Tom Cruise to Receive Honorary Oscar This Year
Image
Despite devoting his entire career — his entire life — to the magic of the movies, Tom Cruise has never won an Oscar. That will change in 2025, as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that Cruise will be the recipient of an honorary Academy Award at AMPAS’ 16th annual Governors Awards, to be held this November.

Also receiving honorary Oscars at the same ceremony are actress/choreographer Debbie Allen, a legend for Fame and beyond, and production designer Wynn Thomas, a frequent Spike Lee collaborator whose credits include Da 5 Bloods and Mars Attacks! Additionally, Dolly Parton will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award, well-deserved given the icon’s legendary history of philanthropy.

In a statement, outgoing Academy Awards president Janet Yang reflected on all of the announced recipients by saying: “Debbie Allen is a trailblazing choreographer and actor, whose work has captivated generations and crossed genres. Tom...

Tom Cruise Wrote His 'Magnolia' Monologue: "This Is Mackey to Me"
Image
One of the best parts about a new release is the press tours and the information about movies new and old that are often revealed. These tours always tend to consist of behind-the-scenes stories, actors talking about their characters, their filming experience, and even fun facts about the stars in general. While Mission: Impossible —The Final Reckoning is Tom Cruise's eighth and final Mission: Impossible franchise, it's nothing short of the thrilling action fans love. To promote the movie, which is already one of the highest-grossing films of 2025 so far, Cruise embarked on a major press tour sharing fun facts about the movie itself and even about past projects.

During an interview with BFI Southbank's Edith Bowman, the actor revealed that his famous "respect the c**k" scene's monologue in Magnolia (1999), and one of the best scenes in the actor's glittering filmography, was penned by him. He started...

Tom Cruise’s 82%-Rated Gut Punch Hiding on Prime Video Has an Unscripted Scene That Shook Me
Image
Tom Cruise may be the face of the blockbuster action roles in Hollywood, but one of his most powerful performances is tucked away in a movie many have forgotten or never seen. There are certain movies and performances that feel like someone cracked open their chest and showed you something real. This Tom Cruise movie is one of them.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s emotional ensemble drama has become a hidden gem in Cruise’s filmography. While the movie may not have made a major impact at the box office, it has earned lasting critical praise. It features a scene, largely improvised by Cruise, that remains one of the most powerful of his career. I didn’t expect watching it now, especially Cruise’s scene, would hit me like a gut punch. The movie is Magnolia, and is currently streaming on Prime Video.

Tom Cruise’s raw, unscripted breakdown in Magnolia...

Mubi Addresses Backlash of Investor’s Support for Israeli Defense Startup
Image
Burgeoning streamer and distributor Mubi has issued a response to backlash over its ties to Sequoia, a Silicon Valley-based venture capital firm.

Sequoia, which recently gave Mubi a $100 million funding round, had also made a $10 million investment in the defense company Kela, which founded by four Israeli intelligence veterans in July 2024. A funding round facilitated by Sequoia also led to an additional $60 million in May, and Kela now has a $100 million total investment.

The backlash to this investment was fueled on social media by an X post from user @atlajala, who wrote “time to add @mubi to the Bds [Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions] list, they are now funded to the tune of 100 million by zionist venture capitalists Sequoia Capital who are actively engaged in military support of the genocide, and some of the investors themselves are settlers on occupied Palestinian land.” Film Workers for Palestine also responded in a social media post, saying it...

New to Streaming: Twin Peaks, Misericordia, Bonjour Tristesse, The Heirloom & More
Image
Each week we highlight the noteworthy titles that have recently hit streaming platforms in the United States. Check out this week’s selections below and past round-ups here.

Bonjour Tristesse (Durga Chew-Bose)

There was slight trepidation going into Bonjour Tristesse. Justifying itself as another “adaptation” of Françoise Sagan’s text rather than remake of Otto Preminger’s masterpiece of mise-en-scène, there’s still some hesitation about the chutzpah that must go into thinking you can top that great craftsman at the height of his power. As directed by writer-turned-filmmaker Durga Chew-Bose with a great deal of formal assurance, this 2024 iteration is a highly respectable effort that’ll speak to countless people the original didn’t. One major difference being that Preminger made the film as a showcase for the muse he was having an affair with, Jean Seberg, casting some leering-male element onto the whole project. Chew-Bose’s project isn...

Elaine May’s Crackpot might finally shoot this autumn
Image
Elaine May is set to direct a feature for the first time since Ishtar, with Dakota Johnson offering a promising update on Crackpot.

Legendary writer, director and performer Elaine May is enjoying quite a time in her 90s. The media gaze when it comes to ninetysomething people in the world of world, theatre and TV might be trained on Clint Eastwood, but perhaps Elaine May should have been given more of the spotlight.

In 2019, for instance, in her late 80s, she took home a Tony award for Best Actress in a Play for her work in Broadway hit The Waverly Gallery. And these past few years, she’s been trying to realise a film project, when where she keeps coming up against hurdles.

The film in question is Crackpot, that’s had Dakota Johnson leading the cast for some time now. Sebastian Stan was also attached as of last year,...

Why ‘Severance’ DoP Jessica Lee Gagné Chose Season 2 for the Big Leap to Directing
Image
It’s all in the eyes, as they say, and Apple TV+’s “Severance” provides these windows to the soul at an almost uncomfortably close range. You can’t help but latch onto the emotional complications of the show’s “innie” (work self) and “outie” (life self) characters within its altered parallel universes of Lumon Industries—and those eyes are often key to deciphering the intentions of both.

One of the standout Season 2 episodes, the moving seventh installment titled “Chikhai Bardo” (a Tibetan Buddhist phrase relating to the moment of death), recalls Gemma (Dichen Lachman) and her court- ship and marriage to Mark (Adam Scott). Personal tragedy unravels them before they are unknowingly united again in Lumon land, despite Mark’s outie thinking that Gemma died ages ago.

“In Season 2, we go through a lot more stuff through eyes, through vision,” said Jessica Lee Gagné, who has been the series...

Jonah Hill Almost Starred In One Of The Best Crime Thrillers Of The 2010s
Image
It can be surreal to learn about the casting decisions that almost happened. "A Clockwork Orange" star Malcolm McDowell almost played Pennywise the dancing clown. Val Kilmer was almost Morpheus in "The Matrix." For every movie or TV show, there are a whole bunch of "almost" casting stories that would have completely changed the way things turned out. Usually, things seem to work out for the best, but there are always those circumstances where fans wonder what might have been. There's even one to ponder about actor Jonah Hill.

Brothers and directors Josh and Benny Safdie had a long road to making their 2019 thriller "Uncut Gems," which eventually starred Adam Sandler as Howard Ratner, a jeweler and gambling addict who gets in way over his head. It's a harrowing anxiety attack of a movie in the best possible way, and Sandler's performance is a career best, surpassing even his work...

Haim Have Your Summer Breakup-Album Needs Covered

Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, it starts with the sister trio in puffer jackets and peacoats, and concludes with Danielle, Alana, and Este in bathing-suit tops, strolling down Ventura Boulevard. The sun is setting, another dreamy California day coming to a close.

This video is essentially how it feels listening to Haim, a band that specializes in sleek, soft pop-rock they regularly infuse with Seventies rock and R&b. While their music shines during every season,...

Weapons: Barbarian director’s new horror film gets an unnerving poster
Image
Two months out from that date, an unnerving poster for the film has dropped online, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Most details about Weapons are shrouded in mystery. It has been said that it’s “an interrelated, multistory horror epic” that’s tonally in the vein of Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia, and the story revolves around the disappearance of elementary school kids in a small town.

Tom Cruise’s Oscar Snub Feels Personal After Realizing He Wrote the Best Monologue in His 82% Rated Movie
Image
Few stars in Hollywood shine as brightly as Tom Cruise. With a career spanning over decades, it didn’t take long for him to become a household name across the globe. In all honesty, he isn’t just an actor; he is a cinematic force of nature, best known for pulling off stunts that no man in his right mind would want to put himself through. But that’s just Tom Cruise for you.

However, while he may be branded as an action star these days, Tom Cruise has charm, wit, and emotions to play any role given to him. Whether it’s the lovable yet emotionally conflicted Jerry Maguire or the cold, calculating hitman in Collateral, he doesn’t just act, he transforms. And that’s exactly what he did in Magnolia, a film for which he deserved an Oscar.

Tom Cruise transformed his character in Magnolia Tom Cruise...
