Michael Madsen, Star Of Reservoir Dogs And Kill Bill, Dies Aged 67
Image
Michael Madsen, longtime collaborator of Quentin Tarantino and star of over 300 films and TV shows — including the likes of Reservoir Dogs, Kill Bill, and Donnie Brasco — has sadly died at the age of 67. As confirmed to THR by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, the iconic actor was found unresponsive at his Malibu home this morning following a suspected cardiac arrest.

Born in Chicago, Illinois on 25 September, 1957 to a war veteran-turned-firefighter father and an Emmy award winning mother, Michael Madsen spent much of his childhood moving from place to place due to his mum's work, getting into scrapes and testing authority as the perpetual new kid in class. Amid a childhood the man himself once described to The LA Times as "chaotic and diversified" however, young Michael found artistic inspiration on the box, devouring classics starring the likes of Humphrey Bogart, Robert Mitchum, and Kirk Douglas — a trio of actors...

Director of 2025's Action-Packed Samurai/Western 'Tornado' Reveals the Major Genre Influences on His Film
Image
The crossover between the samurai and the western genres is one of the biggest and most important intersections in cinema history. Every movie buff knows that westerns influenced samurai movies, which inspired westerns, which influenced the samurai genre to evolve, with the back-and-forth repeating for several more cycles. Tornado, a new action thriller directed by John Maclean, is a love letter to both genres as it blends the tropes, conventions, and iconography of samurai and western movies to create a truly unique amalgamation. As you'd then expect, Maclean was inspired by some true classics, as well as some lesser-known gems of both genres.

John Maclean sat down with MovieWeb's George Edelman to discuss his new feature, Tornado. The film held its world premiere at the Glasgow Film Festival in February of this year, and is set for a wider theatrical release on June 13. Tornado is far from Maclean's first western — 2015's Slow West,...

Warwick Davis Credits Val Kilmer for "Getting Him Through" 'Willow'
Image
Warwick Davis has credited his late co-star Val Kilmer as "the reason" he made it through the production of Ron Howard's 1998 fantasy-adventure film Willow. Davis starred as the movie's titular character, Willow Ufgood, while Kilmer played the charmingly offbeat mercenary and swordsman Madmartigan — but it turns out that his skills didn't stop at those he demonstrated in combat; he was also a spirited "leader" who spurred on his colleagues. Davis told Entertainment Weekly at the opening of Universal Epic Universe in Orlando:

"He's really the reason I got through the making of the film Willow because if ever I was tired, exhausted, fed up, cold, he'd say, 'Come on, keep going!' And he'd be the kind of leader of the army, keeping us going. He was a beautiful man."

Davis joins a chorus of Hollywood stars who have paid tribute and shared fond memories of Kilmer in the wake of his death.

Daredevil: Born Again Is Missing Matt Murdock's Most Important Trait
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

This post contains spoilers for "Daredevil: Born Again."

"Daredevil: Born Again" is named for the most famous "Daredevil" comic ever, 1986's "Born Again" by Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli. Miller is the writer credited with making Matt Murdock/Daredevil a Catholic, and "Born Again" (running in "Daredevil" #227-233) is the story that canonized that.

The title, "Born Again," evokes Jesus Christ's resurrection. Like Jesus, Matt is betrayed by one of those closest to him — Karen Page sells Daredevil's secret identity for a heroin fix. He finds refuge in a convent, healed back to health by the nun Sister Maggie (who is secretly Matt Murdock's long-lost mother).

Ann Nocenti started writing "Daredevil" shortly after "Born Again" at issue #236, and kept the Catholic themes going. During the X-Men's "Inferno" event, the Goblin Queen literally unleashed Hell on New York City.

Val Kilmer's Iconic Filmography Dominates the Streaming Charts Days After His Tragic Passing
Image
The world lost a legend in Val Kilmer earlier this week, and fans are already celebrating his life by tuning in to some of his most iconic movies. Three of Kilmer’s films, Top Gun, The Saint, and Top Gun: Maverick, have all moved into the top three spots in the Paramount+ top 10. Kilmer’s role as Iceman in both Top Gun movies will forever live on as one of the most famous in his filmography, and The Saint sees him step into the role of Simon Templar, a thief who has been hired to steal the secret process for cold fusion. The Saint and Top Gun were panned by critics upon release, but both have become cult classics over the years with large followings.

Jonathan Hensleigh and Wesley Strick wrote the screenplay for The Saint, and Philip Noyce directed the film. Noyce is best known for his work on The Quiet American,...

What Happened To The Cast Of The Willow Movie?
Image
It seems odd to refer to 1988's "Willow" as "the Willow movie," but that's because every nostalgic intellectual property is ripe for refreshing in the modern franchise era, and "Willow" finally got a sequel streaming series on Disney+, also called "Willow." Over 30 years passed between the two, and that's a lot of time for actors to change or even pass away. Warwick Davis' passion for his biggest lead role without special effects makeup never waned, and his enthusiasm is palpable still as he struggles to get the series reclaimed from the Disney vault into which it quickly vanished (and we know the annoying reason why).

The original movie, written by George Lucas and directed by Ron Howard, was an attempt to do for fantasy what "Star Wars" had done for science fiction, and it even featured groundbreaking special effects, like the first use of digital morphing. It was a box office disappointment in its day,...

Inside Val Kilmer’s Little-Known Life as a Poet
Image
Val Kilmer’s world as an artist stretched far beyond his renowned leading man roles. In addition to his Hollywood stardom, where he gained fame in iconic roles like Iceman in Top Gun and Bruce Wayne in Batman Forever, the late actor’s enigmatic career included work as a both a visual artist, playwright and activist. But perhaps his least-known endeavor was as a poet.

Kilmer was a writer of poetry for much of his adult life, having begun dabbling in the form in his twenties as he studied at The Juilliard School and while his career as an actor quickly began to take off. His writing stretched into his sixties, with material touted as from the past 33 years published in 2021, and perhaps even until his death this week at 65 from pneumonia.

“Poetry is a very subjective and intimate expression,” Kilmer once said. “It’s literally your heartbeat. Your rhythm.

8 things to remember before Daredevil: Born Again
Image
As Daredevil: Born Again is ready to hit Disney+, here are a few things to remember about the saga’s return!

It’s been a long wait for fans of Daredevil. The Netflix series did a great job adapting the comics of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), the blind lawyer who moonlights as vigilante Daredevil. The show wrapped up its third season in 2018, only for Netflix to cancel it and the other Defenders spin-offs as Disney took more control.

Thankfully, Daredevil is coming back in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series. It’s a continuation of the Netflix show, and given that it’s been seven years since the show ended, some may have forgotten how it left off. So, to prepare for the return of Daredevil, here are a few things to remember!

How To Watch The Marvel Netflix Shows In Order
Image
Jon Favreau's 2008 film "Iron Man" kicked off the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a multimedia superhero property that would remain dominant in the pop consciousness for over a decade. Initially, "Iron Man" and Louis Leterrier's own 2008 MCU movie "The Incredible Hulk" (which finally got a sequel of sorts in 2025) were meant to be mere stand-alone superhero sories, only including references to the Avengers as a cute wink to fans. But when Disney purchased the Marvel library in 2009, a grander plan was put in motion, laying out multiple films at once, each one introducing a new character. Eventually, all the superhero characters teamed up in 2012's "The Avengers," which was essentially the cinematic version of a TV season finale. That structure held fast through to "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019, the 22nd film in the franchise, and one that featured many, many superheroes.

While the McU's movies were dominating theaters, Netflix got in on the action as well.

‘Wolf Hall’: What to Remember About the Story Before ‘The Mirror and the Light’
Image
Think the years-long hiatuses between streaming TV seasons are bad? Wolf Hall says, “Hold my mead.” The follow-up series Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light debuts on PBS’s Masterpiece on Sunday, March 23, at 9/8c, nearly a full decade after the original Wolf Hall aired stateside. 2015’s Wolf Hall adapted two of Hilary Mantel’s historical novels for the screen, the 2009 book of the same name and the 2012 sequel Bring Up the Bodies. And Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light adapts the final novel of the trilogy, picking up right where the series Wolf Hall left off. But let’s unwind the scroll a little more and get you reacquainted with what Wolf Hall depicted so many years ago. The series starts with King Henry VIII (Damian Lewis) firing Cardinal Thomas Wolsey (Jonathan Pryce) as his lord chancellor after Wolsey failed to get Henry’s marriage to Katherine...

10 Things You Forgot About About Daredevil During the 7-Year Wait for Born Again
Image
The recent release of the trailer for Daredevil: Born Again has fans psyched to see beloved superhero Daredevil helm his own show for the first time since 2018. Daredevil is easily one of Marvel's most successful television endeavors. The superhero action series ran for three seasons, earning five Emmy nominations and amassing a fiercely loyal fanbase.

Most viewers probably remember the basics: blind lawyer Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) protects the people of Hell's Kitchen by relying on his super-powered senses and ninja skills. Matt's mission is aided by his college friend and fellow lawyer Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), his ex-girlfriend and coworker. However, the cult-classic series is full of twists and turns that viewers likely forgot during the long seven-year wait for the revival. Plus, Murdock makes a number of cameos easily missed by those who aren't MCU die-hards.

The 12 Best Navy Seal Movies, Ranked
Image
Members of the armed services can and will argue amongst themselves, but in the minds of people and pop culture, Navy SEALs loom large as the picture of the United States' most elite military men. We can probably thank the fiction of Tom Clancy, and the fact that a Seal team that killed 9-11 mastermind Osama bin Laden, but Hollywood has been enamored with the special operations force for at least the last three decades. When a character in any movie is declared to be either a current or former Navy Seal, it's a given that they won't go down easily. When we discuss the most ruthless thing a U.S. president can do short of a nuclear strike, more often than not it's, "Send in Seal Team 6!"

While movies often take artistic license, it's fair to say that some of the movies featuring Navy SEALs are significantly more accurate than others,...

Francis Ford Coppola Reveals The Movie He Is Most Proud Of … The Answer May Surprise
Image
Francis Ford Coppola has revealed the movie he is most proud of. The answer may surprise some.

In a Q&a session on X (formerly Twitter) today, the legendary filmmaker was asked by one fan: “Out of all the films that you’ve made, which one would you say you are the most proud of having made, or which one do you feel best captures your ideas of film as an art form?”

Few living filmmakers have a catalogue to rival Coppola: The Godfather films, Apocalypse Now and The Conversation, to name a few of his most acclaimed.

But those weren’t his choice today. The filmmaker was torn, but replied: “That’s like asking someone with 7 kids, who’s the best? I love them all, but if scratched deeper I might say Rumblefish”.

Interesting choice for sure. 1983 drama Rumble Fish is based on the 1975 novel of the same name by S.E. Hinton,...
