8 Must-Watch Michael J. Fox Movies (Not Including ‘Back to the Future’ Trilogy)
Image
Let’s be honest, when someone mentions Michael J. Fox, your brain probably jumps straight to Back to the Future. The red vest, the DeLorean, that wild “Great Scott!” energy… it’s iconic, and so is he. Marty McFly basically defined a generation. But here’s the thing: Michael J. Fox didn’t stop being awesome after time travel.

He’s been out here delivering underrated bangers, low-key gems, and performances that hit way harder than you’d expect. Comedy? Drama? Even animated voice work? He’s done it all, and chances are, you’ve missed a few of his best roles just because they didn’t involve a flux capacitor.

So if you’ve only seen him skateboarding through Hill Valley, buckle up, we’re about to dive into some seriously good Michael J. Fox movies that deserve their own moment in the spotlight. Trust us, there’s way...

A 'Tommy Boy' Sequel Pitch Was Rejected by David Spade
Image
Released in 1995, Tommy Boy has gone on to become a comedy movie staple and cult classic. Starring Saturday Night Live castmates and close friends David Spade and Chris Farley, the film played off of their undeniable chemistry and likely wouldn't work if one person were taken out of the equation. This could be why a sequel never came to fruition, given the passing of Farley in 1997 from a drug overdose at the age of 33. Still, that didn't stop Spade from receiving a pitch for a sequel, and he's now revealing his response to a potential Tommy Boy follow-up.

During an appearance on Theo Von's podcast, This Past Weekend, Spade reveals that he was pitched an idea for Tommy Boy 2, and it's something he turned down without hesitation because he can't imagine a sequel without Farley. Not only were Spade and Farley co-stars in the film, they also shared the...

Image
The very concept of aliens plays on our collective fear of the unknown; there’s no telling what horrors await in the cosmos. It’s home invasion horror on a massive scale, with humanity often facing apocalyptic doom against the threat of intelligent life from beyond our galaxy.

This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to alien invasion horror movies that unsettle for the eerie, inhuman invaders and their even creepier means of assimilation.

As always, here’s where you can watch them this week.

Chris Farley and David Spade in Black Sheep (1996)
The Puppet Masters (1994) Revisited – Horror Movie Review
Chris Farley and David Spade in Black Sheep (1996)
A new episode of the Black Sheep video series has just been released, and in this one we’re paying tribute to the late, great Donald Sutherland by taking a look back at the 1994 sci-fi horror film The Puppet Masters (watch it Here)! You can hear all about it by checking out the video embedded above.

Directed by Stuart Orme, who is quite a prolific TV and music video director (best known for his collaborations with Phil Collins), from a screenplay by Hollywood heavy hitters Ted Elliott & Terry Rossio (The Pirates of the Caribbean) and David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight), The Puppet Masters was based on a novel by Robert A. Heinlein and has the following synopsis: An alien spacecraft sets down in rural Iowa, and top-secret government agents Andrew Nivens and his son, Sam, are sent to investigate. Coming along is NASA biologist Mary Sefton, and together they...

The Good Doctor Season 7's House Actor Is Great, But It's Too Late For The Cameo We Really Want
Image
The Good Doctor welcomes Peter Jacobson as a new cast member, adding to the exciting crossover appeal with House alumni. Fans can expect Jacobson's guest appearance in Season 7, Episode 2, bringing a unique sense of nostalgia and familiarity to the show. While the possibility of a Hugh Laurie cameo may be slim, The Good Doctor continues to engage audiences with familiar faces from House.

The Good Doctor is adding another House cast member to its ensemble, which is incredible news for audiences that admire both medical dramas. However, in some ways, the news is also a reminder of the fact that it may be too late for another highly-demanded House cameo in The Good Doctor. This makes the arrival of the House star bittersweet, giving audiences mixed feelings of excitement surrounding the new actor's appearance and longing for the one star who may never make a cameo.

In its seven-season runtime,...

Image
Hallmark has revealed that it will have 40 all-new, original movies for both its flagship channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, as well as special content for Hallmark Movies Now, the company’s subscription streaming service.

Holiday programming kicks off Friday, Oct. 20 with the channel’s Countdown to Christmas and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries’ Miracles of Christmas.

Star Trek: Tng's Booby Trap Put The Enterprise In A Classic Trek Problem
Image
In the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Booby Trap", the Enterprise-D discovered -- floating in a vast asteroid field -- an ancient Promellian battle cruiser, a ship that had been built 1,000 years earlier. Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart) mentions that the cruiser was engaging in space battles when Earth was barely perfecting the crossbow and that he -- an archaeology buff -- used to build models of similar ships as a boy. The Promellians, he explains, were once engaged in a costly and prolonged war with a species called the Menthars. The Promellian/Menthar war entirely wiped out both species a millennium ago, and derelict ships from the conflict are quite rare indeed.

"Star Trek" typically espouses a pointed pacifist philosophy, but one might find that the franchise also contains numerous characters who are fascinated by the history of combat and antique weapons of war. It's telling, however, that...

Good Doctor Recap: Meet the Parents
Image
No amount of talking points could prepare Shaun for dinner with Lea’s parents on Monday’s episode of The Good Doctor. No, that “predictable disaster” went exactly as Lea had feared.

For starters, Lea’s mom Pam (Nip/Tuck‘s Julie Warner) essentially asked Shaun if being autistic makes his job more difficult. And because that wasn’t awful enough, her dad, Mike (Riverdale‘s Barclay Hope), went and asked Shaun for his opinion on vaccines — even though there’s no link between autism and vaccines. To alleviate the tension, Dr. Murphy interjected with an anecdote about a terminal...

Sci-Fi Spoof Featuring 42 Star Trek Actors To Premiere This August
This is one for the C-movie connoisseurs among you.

For those of you who don’t know (you won’t), there’s a new sci-fi spoof on the way called Unbelievable!!!!! It stars Snoop Dogg, 42 former Star Trek actors, Michael Madsen, and a ficus on a skateboard. That ought to answer all of your questions.

In the can for what appears to have been an eternity (some of the footage dates back as far as 2013), the film does at last have a release date. I say at last, but I’m not sure it was at the top of anyone’s list of movie treasure troves. Anyway, if you’re feeling particularly trashy (there’s no shame in that), sit down for Unbelievable!!!!! in an online premiere this August 1st. The premiere will also come with a virtual convention.

Two more items on the agenda to go through. One is the trailer,...

It follows the crazy exploits of four off-beat astronauts (one is a marionette) who travel to the Moon on a rescue mission to determine the fate of two Space Agency comrades who have not been heard from in several days. The individuals they find at the Lunar Base are not who they appear to be and, through acts of trickery and deception, nearly succeed in killing them. Soon the astronauts find themselves trying to save the Earth from Plant Aliens!

Dozens Of ‘Star Trek’ Actors Converge For Snoop Dogg’s Parody Pic ‘Unbelievable’ – Watch The Trailer
It’s a Trekkie delight. No idea why so many Star Trek actors thought this was a great idea, but they did. Snoop Dogg seems to be the furthest thing away from sci-fi as you can get, but he’s one of the stars Unbelievable, a parody film that uses a puppet for James T. Kirk. Watch the trailer for below.

The original score was written/composed by Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated Gerald Fried — the last living composer from the original Star Trek series.

Snoop Dogg executive produced the film from writer-director Steven Fawcette that also stars Nichelle Nichols (who also co-produced), Angelique Fawcette (also a producer), Michael Madsen and Robert Davi. Also in the film are Casper Smart, Sam Asghari, Gilbert Gottfried and newcomer Katarina Van Derham.

Revisiting Star Trek Tng: Transfigurations
The Enterprise rescues a mysterious patient in this week's Star Trek: Tng look-back. Here's James' take on Transfigurations...

This review contains spoilers.

3.25 Transfigurations

The Enterprise is enjoying some quiet time (Picard's phrase, not mine) so Geordie and Worf are hanging out in Ten Forward. Geordi is trying to catch the attention of Christy Henshaw, but is too shy to go and talk to her. When La Forge tries to stop Worf staring, Worf advises him that "you must let her see the fire in your eyes" - apparently oblivious to Geordi's lack of visible eyes.

This awkwardness is interrupted when Riker calls Geordi away, and the two head to a planet to investigate a crashed vessel. It's an escape pod with one badly injured survivor. They need to transport him to the ship, but his brain is too damaged and can't take the strain. Crusher rigs up the tricorder to...

The series stars Joey Lauren Adams (Chasing Amy, The Break-Up), Julie Warner (Nip/Tuck, Tommy Boy), Lourdes Benedicto (V, 24) and Brennen Hesser (So noTORIous)—four women who are not only super moms but actual superheroes, faced with the challenges of both dirty diapers and dirty tricks from their arch-enemy, Dr. Deconstructo. The show also features football and reality star, Hank Baskett, as the "man behind a SuperMom." The eight episode series features a retro-style (reminiscent of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog) that blends live-action and animated superhero story lines, with new episodes debuting Tuesdays on Facebook. The series—not-so-subtly sponsored by Clorox—successfully targets its demographic, shrewdly identifying favorite topics of momdom: blind dates, girl talk, cats, mother-in-laws, makeovers, and, of course, firemen (...and "epic battles against chaos," too). But SuperMoms also reinforces some...

Dennis Hopper Returns to Crash with All New Cast Members
They say Los Angeles is a city built of desire-a place of hope, possibilities, and a brighter tomorrow. Season two of Crash goes beyond the police storylines of the first season to focus on a farther-reaching collection of Angelenos from different social strata as their lives intersect. Stick It
Jessica Bendinger
NEW YORK -- This gently titled film has to do with the world of female gymnastics, which instantly provides it with a commercial hook. Much like "Bring It On", the cheerleading movie also written by this film's writer-director Jessica Bendinger, "Stick It" spends an inordinate amount of time ogling the tight, lithe bodies of its young female characters. Thus, what might have appealed only to teen girls might well have crossover appeal to leering young boys as well.

Yes, there is an inspirational plot of sorts in the film, which mainly involves advising young people to defy the rules of their chosen sport and seek only personal satisfaction and glory rather than strive for discipline and honor.

The central character is 17-year-old Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym), a rebel without a cause who, after getting into some trouble with the law, is sentenced by a judge to do time at an elite gymnastics academy. (Apparently, Texas, where the story is set, has loosened its forms of punishment).

Thus, Haley is reunited with the same girls she let down when she abruptly walked out of a championship competition years before. Given a dose of tough love by her new, hard-nosed coach (Jeff Bridges), she reluctantly takes up the sport again. Despite the ire of her teammates, particularly her chief competitor Joanne (Vanessa Lengies), Haley finds herself inspired to again lead her group to the championships.

It comes as no surprise that the director, making her feature debut, has music video experience because "Stick It" is filmed in a hyperkinetic, in your face style that will induce headaches in anyone who has passed their teens. Equally assaulting is the ultra-loud rock soundtrack, featuring music by the likes of Missy Elliott, Electric Six, K7 and My Morning Jacket.

The film might well inspire young girls to take up the sport, especially because its egregious climactic segment features the characters engaging in routines more inspired by "Flashdance" than anything ever seen at the Olympics.

On every other level, the film is thoroughly ordinary, with the only distinction being Bridges' typically unaffected and engaging performance. Still, as with Tommy Lee Jones' recent "Man of the House", it's depressing to see this distinguished actor, a four-time Oscar nominee, playing second fiddle to skimpily dressed teens.

Peregrym displays some charisma, as well as her firm physique, in the central role, and among those adult performers showing up as aggrieved parents are Julie Warner, Jon Gries and Gia Carides.
