10 Best Disney Sequels, Ranked
Image
When it comes to sequels, Walt Disney Studios is no stranger to second installments, which have come in many forms over the years. These days, you will often see them debuting on the big screen or occasionally launching on Disney+. In the 1990s, there was an onslaught of direct-to-video sequels that dominated sales, and the 2000s saw a handful of now-beloved movies dropping on the Disney Channel. No matter how they were released, or if they are animated or live-action, there are many fan-favorite Disney sequels to choose from.

Hardcore Disney fans will tell you that "The Three Caballeros" was technically the company's first sequel, debuting in 1945. The movie is...

‘The New Yorker At 100’ Review: Entertaining If Incomplete Tour Of “The Greatest Magazine That Ever Was” – Telluride Film Festival
Image
The most famous cover in the history of The New Yorker magazine may be for the March 29, 1976 issue, a drawing known as “View of the World from 9th Avenue.” You’ve no doubt seen it: 9th Avenue large and expansive in the foreground, with 10th Avenue and the Hudson River distinguishable in the distance. The rest of the country vanishes into nothingness, a few clumps representing vague notions of “what’s out there” to the west – Texas, Nebraska, Los Angeles. In the far distance lies the Pacific Ocean, and beyond that, featureless protuberances labeled Japan, Russia and China.

Saul Steinberg’s artwork captured the insularity of Manhattan, the blithe sense of locals that not much beyond the island really exists nor matters. The magazine itself has contributed to the mystique of New York as a paragon of sophistication by publishing the most astute cultural and political observers, the finest essayists,...

Why it’s better that ‘The Pitt’ wasn’t an ‘ER’ spin-off when it comes to the Emmys
Image
Once upon a time, ER producers R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells were discussing a spin-off centered on Noah Wyle's popular character on the NBC series, Dr. John Carter. When Warner Bros. Television failed to reach an agreement with the estate of ER creator Michael Crichton, a different project was created instead: HBO Max's The Pitt.

The legal question over whether The Pitt is really a stealth ER sequel continues to play out in court, but when it comes the Emmys, we can definitively say it's better that The Pitt is The Pitt and not, say, ER: John Carter.

As it stands, The Pitt is a 13-time Emmy nominee,...

Devo talk new Netflix doc, banned MTV video, and 50 years of being ‘the most misunderstood band in the world’
Image
In 1981, Devo’s “Whip It” music video — a deliberately offensive and over-the-top send-up of Reagan-esque cowboy machismo, featuring singer Mark Mothersbaugh sadomasochistically whipping a stuntwoman on a rowdy dude ranch — was in high rotation on MTV. But just a year later, when the new wave band released the video for “That’s Good,” MTV, which at that point was ironically saturated with sexy videos featuring plenty of female flesh, strangely refused to play it without a re-edit.

The reason? An animated scene of a French fry being inserted into a donut’s hole was deemed too suggestive by network censors.

“You were hurting a woman [in “Whip It”], so that was Ok.

‘And Just Like That’ Writers Compare Finale Reaction to Ending ‘Sex and the City’: “It Was the Opposite of a Heated Debate”
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from the series finale of And Just Like That, “Party of One.”]

There’s been a sense of déjà vu for the writers on And Just Like That who were there for the first series finale when Sex and the City signed off back in 2004.

Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky joined the Satc writers room for season four and have remained on the iconic franchise through the Aug. 14 series finale of Ajlt, now adding executive producers to their credits with the revival series that returned Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and Charlotte York-Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis) into viewers’ lives since late 2021.

After three seasons, countless reviews and hot takes, and, most recently, a “hate-watching” movement for the sequel series that picked up after the six-season original series and two movies, Ajlt delivered what has become a somewhat divisive ending to Carrie’s story. After breaking up with longtime love Aidan Shaw (John Corbett...

Why And Just Like That's Finale Doesn't Reunite Sex And The City Characters
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for And Just Like That Season 3, episode 12, "Party Of One"

In the series finale of And Just Like That, the Sex and the City characters conclude the story without crossing over, which is a departure from the ending of the original series. Ahead of the last few episodes of the revival, showrunner Michael Patrick King announced that And Just Like That was ending after season 3.

Sarah Jessica Parker, an executive producer for the original show and its revival, who plays Carrie Bradshaw in both series, commented on the decision to end the chapter with the Sex and the City's characters spending Thanksgiving apart. Parker’s comments to Vanity Fair reveal that the women are closer than ever, and their season 3 story still honors that:

Maybe the difference this time around is that there’s a confidence in not having to paint a portrait of a threesome,...

5 reasons why ‘And Just Like That’ never found Emmy love
Image
There’s one Big explanation, and one even bigger: the sequel series never brought the fun — of fashion, of a brilliantly written dramedy, of friendship — that made Sex and the City an Emmy-winning classic.

The statistics are clear: Sex and the City, the 1998-2004 HBO dramedy that first introduced a soon-to-be-devoted audience to New York City BFFs Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), earned seven Emmy statues, as well as wins for series creator Michael Patrick King for Outstanding Directing, and the casting and costume departments. Satc’s third season also earned an Outstanding Comedy Series Emmy, and just as impressively, every season of the hit was nominated for that statue, totaling six of Satc’s overall 54 Television Academy nominations.

As for And Just Like That’s Emmy data, the numbers are just as simple, but in the opposite direction: three seasons,...

Sarah Jessica Parker Responds To Terrible Reviews For ‘And Just Like That’: ‘I Don’t Really Care’
Image
HBO Max series And Just Like That… has come to an end with the recent release of its finale – and fans are not happy with what they saw.

Receiving almost exclusively bad reviews, And Just Like That has been criticized for lazy storylines and “desperate” attempts to be politically relevant. Critics and viewers alike have bashed the two seasons relentlessly. As the show came out, viewers started a “hate-watching” trend, which saw the show’s die-hard fans expressing their disappointment in the new series, but noting they loved the earlier show enough to finish out the series despite their loathing.

In a recent interview with The New York Times, the show’s star, Sarah Jessica Parker, was asked whether she was aware of the trend. “I don’t think I have the constitution to have spent a lot of time thinking about that,” she said. “We always worked incredibly hard...

Sarah Jessica Parker Addresses And Just Like That's 'Hate Watch' Status
Image
And Just Like Thathas marked the end of an era for Carrie Bradshaw and her friends, and star Sarah Jessica Parker has addressed not only the show's conclusion but its status as a "hate watch." The Sex and the City sequel series premiered in 2021 and ran for three seasons, with And Just Like That's series finale airing last Thursday.

While the original series was hailed as a pioneering masterpiece and is still beloved to this day, with many 20-somethings rediscovering Sex and the City, the fandom's prevailing consensus is that And Just Like That is a severe dip in quality compared to its predecessor. However, the spinoff — particularly season 3 — has gone viral for its "hate watch" addictiveness.

Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw for 27 years, recently spoke to the New York Timesabout And Just Like That's conclusion. She shared that she was "absolutely" happy with Carrie's ending, and when asked about the hate watch reactions,...

Sarah Jessica Parker Addresses 'And Just Like That' Haters
Image
In a world full of remakes, revivals, sequels, and the like, some viewers really want new, original content to consume. That doesn't mean if a show is revived that it's automatically going to be horrible. There will just be a group of people watching, closely examining each episode and an actor's performance to complain about something — anything, really. Hate-watching isn't new, but it is contradictory. If you hate something so much, why contribute to its possible success? Sex and the City's sequel series, And Just Like That..., had millions of dedicated fans tuning in, but the franchise's haters were tuned in, too. Sarah Jessica Parker addressed it in a recent interview.

Sarah Jessica Parker Responds to ‘And Just Like That’ “Hate-Watching” Trend: “I Guess I Don’t Really Care”
Image
The Sex and the City franchise has come to a close, at least for now, with the series finale of And Just Like That, which concluded the revival series after three seasons.

The HBO Max follow-up to the iconic original series (which picked up following the two films) began as a grief-com following the untimely death of Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) husband, Big (Chris Noth), and over the course of two seasons expanded its ensemble and tone before ending with a coda to the finale of the original series and leaving Carrie as fabulous — and single — in New York City.

Along the way, a vocal viewing trend emerged where viewers (and critics and writers, including one at The Hollywood Reporter) were self-identifying as “hate-watchers” of a series they collectively said was barely recognizable to the original, but one they would still never give up watching.

In her only...

Jenna Bush Hager seemingly extended her long weekend into a lengthier break from Today. In addition to not joining her Today colleagues out on the 30 Rockefeller Center plaza, Thursday and Friday’s episodes of Today With Jenna & Friends were also prerecorded. Her hiatus continued into this week, as Bush Hager was once again absent from Today‘s earlier hours before a new prerecorded episode of Jenna & Friends aired. Script for ‘Sex and the City 3’ Is Ready, So What’s Stopping the Sequel?
Image
Long before the Sex and the City franchise was revived with the sequel series And Just Like That…, a third movie was on the books. In fact, a script was ready for it, but the plug was pulled months into development. One of the biggest reasons for this was Kim Cattrall‘s refusal to reprise her role as Samantha Jones, a member of the central female quartet.

In September 2017, The Daily Mail reported that Cattrall allegedly demanded that Warner Bros. produce her other movies if they wanted her to do Sex and the City 3. However, the actress disputed this accusation by tweeting (via X):

“The only ‘Demand’ I ever made was that I didn’t want to do a 3rd film….& that was back in 2016.”

The iconic HBO drama series, Sex and the City, kept the story moving with the movies that were released in 2008 and 2010, respectively. While both movies were massive commercial hits,...

Sarah Jessica Parker hasn’t given the haters of her series And Just Like That much thought. The actress, who played Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City and its more recent sequel, reflected on the perception of the show in a new interview with The New York Times.

Responding to whether she was aware of how often And Just Like That was described by fans as a “hate watch,” Parker said, “I don’t think I have the constitution to have spent a lot of time thinking about that.

Sarah Jessica Parker Says “I Don’t Really Care” About ‘And Just Like That’s Hate Watchers
Image
With the return of her Sex and the City heroine she originated nearly three decades ago, Sarah Jessica Parker might not have been prepared for the meme-ification of Carrie Bradshaw and friends.

As the 6x Golden Globe winner’s apparent final performance as Carrie comes to an end with last week’s And Just Like That… finale on HBO Max, she recently addressed the show’s “hate watchers,” who have been vocal on social media.

“I don’t think I have the constitution to have spent a lot of time thinking about that,” Parker to The New York Times. “We always worked incredibly hard to tell stories that were interesting or real. I guess I don’t really care. And the reason I don’t care is because it has been so enormously successful, and the connections it has made with audiences have been very meaningful.”

A Beloved And Just Like That... Star Almost Joined The Friends Cast
Image
HBO Max's "And Just Like That... is one of the most addictively terrible shows in recent memory, which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. After all, its predecessor series, "Sex and the City," is held in high regard by many pop culture enthusiasts. During its original run, the Darren Star-created comedy-drama was a big part of the cultural zeitgeist, winning numerous awards and establishing some high-profile fashion trends. "And Just Like That...," on the other hand, is entertaining in a train wreck sort of way, and the fact HBO's "Sex and the City" revival is ending after three seasons suggests that it won't have the same lasting impact on fans.

"And Just Like That..." follows Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristen Davis) as they navigate their careers, lives, and romances in New York City. In fact, the premise is actually quite similar to "Friends,...

Sarah Jessica Parker Says ‘I Don’t Care’ That People Hate-Watch ‘And Just Like That’: ‘It Has Been So Enormously Successful’
Image
Sarah Jessica Parker, who has played Carrie Bradshaw in the “Sex and the City” franchise for the past twenty-seven years, has responded to viewers who love to hate-watch the series’ latest reboot, “And Just Like That.” After the series’ finale on Aug. 14, Carrie told the New York Times that she doesn’t pay the haters much thought.

“I don’t think I have the constitution to have spent a lot of time thinking about that,” she said. “We always worked incredibly hard to tell stories that were interesting or real. I guess I don’t really care. And the reason I don’t care is because it has been so enormously successful, and the connections it has made with audiences have been very meaningful.”

Created by Darren Starr, “Sex and the City” debuted in 1998 on HBO and became a trailblazing phenomenon. Starring Parker alongside Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon...

‘And Just Like That’ Is Over. What Does That Mean for ‘Sex and the City’?
Image
In the IP era, legacies are a tricky thing. So many beloved TV shows and movies are getting revivals, reboots, and reimaginings — to varying degrees of success — it’s hard to say which ones will stick in the public consciousness.

Do “Frasier” fans consider Dr. Crane’s two so-so seasons on Paramount+ part of the acclaimed original series? What about the largely beloved but quickly discontinued “Party Down”? Bad or good, lasting or fleeting, what’s the impact of these contorted continuations on fans? Even if we don’t want to, can we forget what we’ve already seen? Once it’s out there, is it out there for good, or have all these story extensions also brought on different standards for pop-culture permanence?

It may come down to personal preference — the days of finding a consensus seem long behind us — but “And Just Like That” offers a curious case study.

Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for And Just Like That... season 3, episode 12.

Carrie Bradshaw's ending in And Just Like That... season 3 is explained by Sarah Jessica Parker and creator Michael Patrick King. The series finale brought an end to the long-running story of Parker's iconic Sex and the City character decades after she was first introduced.

Carrie's choice in the ending of And Just Like That... to be on her own has proven divisive, with many fans wanting her to live happily-ever-after with John James "Mr. Big" Preston (Chris Noth) or to be with another romantic partner.

While speaking with Vanity Fair, Parker and King address why the show ends with Carrie on her own and how this is a perfect conclusion to her arc. Check out their comments below:

Parker: I feel really good about the principle by which we’re making this decision. It’s hard for...

‘Sex and the City’ Is Over. Long Live Carrie Bradshaw
Image
I started watching Sex and the City in college. On Sunday nights, I’d walk over to my friend Anna’s room in our small Midwestern liberal arts college. I’d sit on the cheaply carpeted floor, our friend Kate on the bed. We’d drink beer or Fresca, eat bags of Doritos and greasy cafeteria pizza. We screamed about the Post-it note breakup. The $485 shoes stolen at the baby shower. Sex swings and dildos and gorgeous, gorgeous clothes.

Back then, the New York world of Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker...

The And Just Like That Finale Destroys The Legacy Of Sex And The City
Image
Spoilers for "Party of One," the series finale of "And Just Like That..." follow, insofar as a show like this can even be spoiled.

The series finales of "How I Met Your Mother" and "Game of Thrones" can officially step aside. There's a new winner of the "worst series finale" award, and it belongs firmly to "Party of One," the last episode of the "Sex and the City" revival and sequel, titled "And Just Like That..." Indeed, to say this episode is a huge, steaming pile of crap is an understatement. Beyond that, in the last 34 minutes of this interminable, consistently illogical, and often downright awful series, it betrays literally everything that "Sex and the City" once proudly represented.

I've already talked at length right here at /Film about how "And Just Like That..." absolutely sucks and why it flat-out fails, on every conceivable level, to live up to the...

And Just Like That has officially wrapped up with its third season, concluding the journey of Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw. The HBO series was a revival of Sex and the City, and left fans surprised by the abrupt decision to end the show on its third chapter. Here’s what showrunner Michael Patrick King revealed about it.

And Just Like That: Why Did Sex & The City Revival End With Season 3?

During a conversation with Variety, Michael Patrick King revealed that he felt it was the right time to say goodbye to the characters and the whole world of Sex and the City for good. “The idea of leaving a party while it’s still happening is the most elegant thing you can say for a TV series,” he said about the choice.

‘And Just Like That…’ Is Over – So, What’s Next for the ‘Sex and the City’ Universe?
Image
And Just Like That…, a sequel to Darren Star’s Sex and the City, has come to an end after three seasons. This is the end for the beloved New Yorkers, at least as of now. Show creator Michael Patrick King and star Sarah Jessica Parker have confirmed that this is the end of Carrie’s arc, as they felt that the story was complete during production.

Michael Patrick King confirmed in a statement shared on the show’s official Instagram that Season 3 marks the definitive end of the story. The statement began:

“And just like that… the ongoing storytelling of the Sex And The City universe is coming to an end. While I was writing the last episode of And Just Like That… season 3, it became clear to me that this might be a wonderful place to stop. We decided to end the popular series this year with a...

Casablanca: The Secret Behind This Iconic Scene From Humphrey Bogart’s Classic Romantic Drama Will Blow Your Mind!
Image
Exploring The Secret Behind Casablanca’s Iconic Farewell Scene! ( Photo Credit – Prime Video )

One of cinema’s most iconic moments, the farewell between Rick and Ilsa in Casablanca, wasn’t quite what it seemed. That fog-laden scene, with Humphrey Bogart’s Rick and Ingrid Bergman’s Ilsa standing in front of a plane poised for takeoff, has etched itself into the DNA of film history as a powerful and timeless image. But behind the magic, a surprising truth about its production emerges, even to this day.

The Foggy Goodbye That Fooled Everyone

Casablanca, filmed during the Second World War, had to contend with the strict limitations imposed by wartime conditions. One of those restrictions was filming at an airport after dark, a challenge that would have doomed the desired final scene.

With a budget stretched thin and time constraints in full swing, the production turned to ingenuity. The “airport” was actually a carefully crafted set,...

And Just Like That Season 3 Finale: Carrie’s Last Scene Mirrors One Sex and the City Moment
Image
If you caught the details, the And Just Like That Season 3 finale throws it back to a defining Sex and the City moment. It ends with Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie twirling alone in her apartment, dressed in a soft pink number that’s a clear wink to the tutu from the original opening credits.

It’s not just dancing – it’s a quiet victory lap. Carrie has arrived at a place where she knows she’s enough all on her own. The scene lands like an intentional echo of the Sex and the City finale, when she strolled home from the café with her friends, turning over thoughts about love and life.

Her conclusion then still holds: the most important relationship you’ll ever have is with yourself. It’s a full-circle moment – decades apart, yet carrying the same truth.

‘And Just Like That…’ Ending Explained: How Season 3 Said Goodbye to Its Iconic Characters
Image
And Just Like That… has finally come to an end after 3 seasons, and it’s a mixed bag. Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and the rest of the cast concluded the Sex and the City sequel series. The series ended on Aug. 14, 2025, with a finale called Party of One, and the show did justify that title. The finale opted to take an emotional and reflective tone that emphasized friendship and self-acceptance instead of a romantic resolution.

After 3 seasons of navigating grief, redemption, and middle-aged reinvention, this introspective finale gave the story closure. Carrie Bradshaw, who had been defined by her romantic entanglements, ended her journey alone with the promise of self-acceptance. The series deliberately pivoted from the franchise tradition of romance to celebrate autonomy. So, let us find out how that looked for different characters.

Making Sense of That Bad ‘And Just Like That’ Ending and an Eroded ‘Sex and the City’ Legacy | Commentary
Image
Note: This story contains spoilers from “And Just Like That” Season 3, Episode 12.

And just like that … we don’t have “And Just Like That” to kick around any longer. The HBO Max reboot we all loved to hate but couldn’t stop watching ended Thursday with its Season 3 finale, “Party of One,” written by showrunner Michael Patrick King and Susan Fales-Hill, a half hour of television that feels very hard to believe was conceived as the final word on its legacy-brand mothership “Sex and the City,” though the announcement of this chapter’s end implied that all parties involved were on board with concluding the story here.

While it had some nice final moments that almost lived up to the franchise’s significance, the rest was a hodgepodge of filler — a wayward group of annoying Gen Z-ers, way too much Victor Garber (something I don’t say lightly) and way too many bathroom hijinks.

Critic’s Notebook: ‘And Just Like That’ Series Finale Sees Carrie Bradshaw Go Out With a Whimper
Image
And just like that…it ended on a turd.

Literally. The series finale of HBO Max’s dramedy And Just Like That — the oft-gloomy, obsequiously apologetic sequel series to iconic millennium rom-com Sex and the City — climaxes with fully formed fecal cylinders exploding out of an overflowing toilet. So much for bowing out with dignity.

Episode 12 barely mustered enough energy to close out the current season, let alone the three-season series in full. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) hosts Thanksgiving in her newly purchased apartment, only for half the guests to ghost the proceedings. Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), who was expecting all her close friends and loved ones to join, is left to entertain several tedious characters she (and we) barely know. There’s Miranda’s listless adult son Brady (Niall Cunningham), who got more screen time and plotlines when he was an infant on Satc, and some rich bore played by Victor Garber,...

'And Just Like That' Ending Explained: Carrie Bradshaw's Fate Revealed & Creator Explains Her Final Line
Image
And Just Like That has come to an end and it’s time to say goodbye to Sarah Jessica Parker‘s beloved character Carrie Bradshaw.

We were first introduced to Carrie and her friends in the HBO series Sex and the City, which ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2004. She returned in two feature films that were released in theaters in 2008 and 2010. The revival series And Just Like That then premiered in late 2021 and ran for three seasons on the streaming service HBO Max.

Series creator and showrunner Michael Patrick King explained that he didn’t intend on ending the show when he began writing the third season, but as time went by in the writers room, it became evident that the ending was near.

King told Variety, “Well, I always like the fact that you wish you were getting more. The idea of leaving a party while it’s...
