Elizabeth Olsen must choose who to spend the afterlife with in the trailer for Eternity
Image
The studio A24 recently had a rom-com with The Materialists this year. While the company is more known for putting out surreal and intense films, along comes Eternity, which is another rom-com, but with an existential crisis twist. Elizabeth Olsen, Miles Teller and Callum Turner star in a fresh take on the classic love triangle trope. Star Thrower Entertainment partners with A24 for Eternity, which is directed by David Freyne. Freyne previously helmed the 2020 film Dating Amber. Olsen and Teller are also credited in the film as executive producers.

A24 has released the trailer, which finds Miles Teller reuniting with his love, played by Elizabeth Olsen, in the afterlife. Unfortunately, Olsen’s character has a former love who died earlier and has been waiting to reunite with her as well. Now, she must choose who she will spend eternity with. Freyne directs from a screenplay that was written by Pat...

Michael Jackson Movie’s New Ending & Sequel Plan Reportedly Revealed After Legal Nightmare
Image
The new plan for Michael's ending and second film has reportedly been revealed. Michael is a planned Michael Jackson biopic from director Antoine Fuqua. In it, the King of Pop is played by Jackson's real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson. The supporting cast includes Miles Teller, Colman Domingo, Kat Graham, Laura Harrier, and Nia Long.

In a different world, Michael would have been released already. The film was once scheduled to come out on April 18, 2025. Production delays then pushed the movie to October 2025, but the film then got entwined in legal trouble that left it pushed once again. Now, it is slated for April 24, 2026.

As per Puck, the plan for Michael has now been revealed. As of now, producer Graham King is still hoping for two biopics based on Jackson, but only one has been confirmed. The ending of this confirmed film will be a performance that leaves audiences "happy and uplifted.

Michael Jackson Biopic Sets April 2026 Release After Delays
Image
The Michael Jackson biopic, originally set for release in April 2025 but delayed by a potentially litigious third act, will now arrive a year later in April 2026.

The Antoine Fuqua-directed Michael, starring the late singer’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the King of Pop, initially wrapped shooting in May 2024, but its initial April 18, 2025, release was postponed until October 2025 after it was revealed that the film required 22 days of reshoots.

The reshoots, it was reported, were needed due to the film’s third act, which in some way delved into the...

Deadline reports that a second movie about Jackson remains in development.Directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King, the biopic is 27-year-old Jaafar’s first major acting role. Michael | Michael Jackson biopic moves to 2026
Image
Antoine Fuqua’s Michael is indeed, as had been reported, moving to 2026. One lot of extra shooting done, more may be following.

It’s with a sense of trepidation that I write a Michael Jackson story, knowing full well that a small section fanbase of the late singer’s social media advocates on Twitter are, er, ‘a little unconstructive.’

If that happens to be you, then please note that we engage with constructive criticism in our comments, but have to leave it there.

There was a story a few months ago anyway, that the biopic of Michael Jackson, Michael, was being delayed into 2026. This was pushed back on at the time, but has turned out to be true. The film had been due for release later this year, but around three weeks of reshoots have been required, and the movie is back in post.

The reshoots, depending on which version you believe,...

Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’ moonwalks out of 2025 Oscar contention
Image
It's official: Michael, Antoine Fuqua's anticipated Michael Jackson musical biopic, has beat it out of this year's Oscar race.

As Gold Derby reported months ago, the Lionsgate film made an expected move from a planned Oct. 3 release to April 24, 2026.

Michael had been targeted as potential awards bait coming into 2025, but its fate seemed iffy when it was omitted from Lionsgate's CinemaCon presentation to movie theater exhibitors in April. This was a 180 from last year's CinemaCon when the studio shared a first look at Michael.

Weeks later, Lionsgate executives said the film was likely to shift into 2026 amid reports that the four-hour cut would be reconfigured as a two-part release. The two-fer is no longer on the table; instead, Fuqua has been given extra time to chop Michael down to a single film with a manageable running time.

The movie has been beset with controversy. In January, Puck reported that Michael,...

Michael: Everything We Know About the Michael Jackson Biopic (Updated with 2026 release date)
Image
One of the most controversial movies of the near future could be Michael, director Antoine Fuqua’s high-profile biopic about the life of Michael Jackson. Despite glowing reactions to early footage, the film’s release has reportedly been delayed due to legal complications. Lionsgate, the studio behind the film, had initially hoped it would be a major awards-season contender and a box office juggernaut this year – but now, it has been confirmed that they’re waiting to give the film a global theatrical release on April 24, 2026. (With a second film already in development.) So, what exactly is going on with Michael? Here’s what we know so far.

Michael comes from producer Graham King, the man behind Bohemian Rhapsody, the Freddie Mercury biopic that grossed nearly $1 billion worldwide and took home several Oscars. Like that film, Michael has endured its share of pre-release hurdles. While production reportedly went smoothly, the...

Michael Jackson Biopic Moves to April
Image
The Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” will open in standard theaters and in Imax worldwide on April 24, moving from its earlier October date.

Lionsgate is releasing the film domestically, with Universal handling distribution in the rest of the world except for Japan, which is handled by Kino Films.

Antoine Fuqua directs, with John Logan as screenwriter and Jaafar Jackson starring as his late uncle. Graham King, an Oscar winner for “The Departed,” produces.

“‘Michael’ explores the global superstar’s journey to become known to the world as the King of Pop, presenting an intimate look at the life and enduring legacy of one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known,” the synopsis reads.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in May that the movie was “likely” to move to 2026. Although it wrapped production in May 2024, the project underwent reshoots and came in with a lengthy initial cut. Earlier,...

Michael Jackson Biopic Moves to Spring 2026 Release
Image
The Michael Jackson biopic from Lionsgate and Universal is looking to thrill audiences next year.

Director Antoine Fuqua’s Michael is set to hit theaters and Imax on April 24, 2026, after its release was delayed several times, most recently having been dated for the fall of 2025. Marking his feature debut is Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in the lead role as the pop music icon. Lionsgate is distributing the movie domestically, while Universal handles the global launch.

The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Michael was set for 22 days of additional photography to take place in June. Sources noted at the time that the film, initially intended to span the star’s life and have a lengthy run time, was now expected to end with Jackson leaving his family’s group The Jacksons after the release of his first solo album, 1979’s Off the Wall.

Puck reported in January that Michael’s...

Lionsgate, Universal Set ‘Michael’ for April 2026 Release Date
Image
Lionsgate and Universal have set “Michael,” Antoine Fuqua’s biopic about Michael Jackson, for release on April 24, 2026.

Lionsgate will handle domestic distribution for the film while Universal handles overseas with the exception of Japan, where it will be distributed by Kino Films. “Michael” will have global Imax support.

While the release date is technically a weekend before the usual start of the summer box office season on the first weekend of May, “Michael” will be the de facto kickoff tentpole release for theaters to start the critical theatrical period. Historically, a Marvel Studios film has been set for release on the first weekend of May, but that won’t be the case in 2026 and 2027 as Disney has moved “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” out of that slot and into the holiday season.

During Lionsgate’s last earnings call in May, CEO Jon Feltheimer announced that “Michael” had been pulled...

Michael Jackson Biopic Gets Extensive Reshoots; May Become 2 Films
Image
The saga of the controversial Michael Jackson biopic continues. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the Jafaar Jackson starring film has been in the works for years now, and ostensibly finished shooting last year. But now, it seems, the troubled production is heading back to the drawing board in a sense, as it was recently reported that the film will complete an extensive bit of re-shoots that they are calling "Additional Photography" — 22 days' worth, in fact, which is damn near enough time to film an entirely new movie. It also had its release date shifted, too.

In a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, the outlet states that "the not-insignificant shoot comes as King, the Jackson Estate and studio partners Lionsgate and Universal are still mulling how to move forward in light of a legal issue, with the movie most likely being split into two parts. The new shoot seems to indicate that headway is being made.

Michael Jackson biopic anti-gravity leans to 22 days of additional photography to spread more blood on the dance floor
Antoine Fuqua at an event for L'élite de Brooklyn (2009)
Whether it’s content disputes, delays, or the need to get the band back together for additional filming, Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, is leaving a lot of blood on the dancefloor on its way to cinemas. According to reports, Lionsgate and producer Graham King will prep for a hefty 22-day set of additional photography in June. That’s not an insignificant amount of extra footage, bringing the project’s production price tag to new heights.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the need for additional footage comes after the Jackson Estate and studio partners Lionsgate and Universal debated a legal issue concerning aspects of the film’s content. Given delays and confusion about what to omit and add to the anticipated biopic, Fuqua’s Michael could be split into two parts.

Per THR, a script for a potential second film still needs to be finalized, with footage from...

Michael Jackson Biopic Returning To Production As Lionsgate Mulls Splitting Pic Into Two
Image
Deadline has confirmed that Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael is undergoing an additional 22 days of filming next month.

This all checks out with the possibility that Lionsgate may split the feature into two installments (that move not decided yet), not to mention the recent news about the biopic’s future release date move.

Lionsgate will announce a new release date in the near future, the most recent one being Oct. 3 this year. CEO Jon Feltheimer on yesterday’s earnings call said that Michael‘s move would boast a strong fiscal 2027 slate, however, that could also conceivably mean that part one of the epic could open sometime in calendar year 2026.

THR reported first about the extra 22 day shoot. According to that report, the second movie’s script still needs to be approved. Part one is rumored to end with Jackson, played by nephew Jaafar Jackson, leaving the Jackson 5 after...

Michael Jackson Biopic Moonwalking to 22 Days of Additional Photography in June (Exclusive)
Image
Lionsgate and producer Graham King have looked at the man in the mirror and decided he needs some work done.

Michael, the in-flux Michael Jackson biopic, is prepping for a bulky 22-day set of additional photography to be held in June, multiple sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The not-insignificant shoot comes as King, the Jackson Estate and studio partners Lionsgate and Universal are still mulling how to move forward in light of a legal issue, with the movie most likely being split into two parts. The new shoot seems to indicate that headway is being made.

Sources tell THR that while a script for a potential second film still needs to be finalized, the planned June shoot would be for the first film. While the term “reshoots” has been bandied about, in this case it’s less about reshooting what has already been shot but rather expand what was half a film into feature length.

Michael Jackson fans will have to wait a bit longer for Antoine Fuqua’s biopic “Michael.”

During Lionsgate’s Q4 2025 earnings call, CEO Jon Feltheimer shared an update on the film starring Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, who makes his screen debut in the project.

Terrence Howard, the original War Machine, made a solid splash in the first Iron Man movie and seemed set for a major MCU journey until things took a sudden detour. Since then, he’s become known less for superhero roles and more for stirring the pot with his wild science theories and bold takes on reality.

But, funny enough, missing out on Iron Man 2 might not be his biggest regret. What really must sting is not shooting his shot with Beyoncé. Here’s how that went down!

Terrence Howard in Iron Man / Credits: Marvel Studios Terrence Howard’s biggest regret is missing his chance with Beyoncé!

Back in 2005, Terrence Howard found himself at the center of one of the most unforgettable moments in BET Awards history. During Destiny’s Child’s performance of Cater 2 U, Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams each treated a celebrity guest to a steamy onstage lap dance.

Michael Jackson Biopic Release Date Doubtful, Might Be Split Into Two Films
Image
CinemaCon is all about studios showcasing to exhibitors what they have on their docket that they should be excited about. Lionsgate had its presentation and wisely revealed that John Wick would be coming back for a fifth round of action while also discussing how that universe would be expanding. Lionsgate also has what could be one of the biggest musical biopics on the schedule in Michael, a film directed by Antoine Fuqua that should get fans of Michael Jackson excited. It would be a project that a studio would want to showcase to exhibitors since it's supposed to open in the fall of this year, but it was noticeably absent from their presentation. Why was it missing in action? As it turns out, some of the issues have to do with how to release the film, and the other matter in question is if it will even release this year at all.

Happy tariffs week, everybody. How’s it impacting you? Jesse Whittock here with you to highlight stories from the White House, CinemaCon and the headquarters of a famous Japanese anime firm. Sign up for the International Insider newsletter here.

Trump’s Tariff Targets

“Liberation Day”: Another week, another Donald Trump bombshell. This time guns were aimed… well, at the entire world (bar a few exceptions including Russia). On Wednesday, the President announced a tariff policy of a baseline 10% on virtually every nation, claiming April 2, 2025, would be remembered as “the day that we began to make America wealthy again,” calling it “Liberation Day.” Those hit included long-time allies in the UK, Europe and Australia, whose Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese responded by saying, “This is not the act of a friend.” Fair to say few countries were happy and stock markets are shellshocked, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing down...

Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic is a film that is sure to court controversy when it finally comes out. Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic may become two-parter, get pushed into 2026
Image
The absence of the Michael Jackson biopic from Tuesday’s Lionsgate CinemaCon presentation has sparked speculation that the film may get be pushed into 2026 and take the form of a two-parter.

Lionsgate sources did not comment on the matter, neither did anybody at Universal, which holds international rights to Michael, producer Graham King’s ambitious project that enjoyed a splashy segment at Lionsgate’s CinemaCon session last year.

According to reports there are issues with the film that need to be addressed and may be better served by splitting the feature into two, which could serve a cut from director...

Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic could be split into two movies
Image
According to Deadline, there’s a chance that Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic might be split into two movies. Sources told the outlet that the current cut of Michael is close to four hours long. Splitting the project into two movies isn’t a sure thing, but it’s something they’re considering.

The film is currently slated to hit theaters on October 3rd, and the report also mentioned that it might not make that date. There were also rumblings earlier this year that the film would have to undergo significant rewrites and reshoots due to a legal agreement which stipulated that alleged victim Jordan Chandler and his family could not be featured in any movies about Jackson’s life. That court battle is a major part of the third act, so how that was overlooked is a little confusing.

A source close to the production refuted the report,...

Michael Jackson Biopic in Flux as Filmmakers Mull Splitting Movie in Two
Image
A year ago at CinemaCon, Lionsgate closed out its Las Vegas presentation with a surprise, lengthy look at Michael, with the footage that wowed turning the Caesar’s Palace Coliseum into a concert-like atmosphere and getting a strong response. Producer Graham King revealed that the Michael Jackson biopic would include 30 songs and have a lengthy run time in order to do justice to the late pop star’s story.

Now, King and his fellow filmmakers are mulling a new reality for the project, where the superstar’s onscreen story can be further expanded across two features. But it’s a plan that is in very early stages, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The news about the potential two-part Jackson movies comes after rumors of trouble on the production, as outlined in a Puck report in January. The report noted the film’s third act needed to be reworked, as it...

Keep reading to find out more…

With the Antoine Fuqua-directed biopic possibly being split into two movies, the original October 3rd release date is also likely being pushed back.

The movie initially wrapped filming in May 2024, but has recently picked back up for reshoots. Nia Long, who is portraying matriarch Katherine Jackson, was spotted on set this week in Los Angeles.

Earlier this year, it was reported the biopic needed revisions due to legal issues around Jordan Handler, who accused Michael of molesting him.

Jordan reportedly came to an agreement with Michael‘s estate to never be referenced in any sort of project about the musician.

Bohemian Rhapsody Producer's Michael Jackson Biopic Might Lose Release Date as Studio Considers Big Change
Image
Michael, the anticipated biopic chronicling the "King of Pop," Michael Jackson, appears to be moonwalking away from its initial release plan. The upcoming blockbuster produced by Bohemian Rhapsody's Graham King may not premiere this year as intended and could be broken up into multiple movies.

Per Deadline, Michael looks unlikely to make its intended October premiere as Lionsgate ponder what to do with the Antoine Fuqua-helmed feature-length project. Clocking in at around four hours, Lionsgate is considering splitting up Michael into two films, though it's reportedly not a definitive option yet. There is also speculation the movie may be released later in the year to coincide with awards season, though Lionsgate is due to release the Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfrield-led The Housemaid on Christmas Day.

Several factors prompted the uncertainty surrounding Michael's release. First, there are questions about IMAX screen accessibility as Lionsgate handles domestic distribution while Universal Pictures takes care of overseas.

Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’ likely being split into two films with release delayed
Image
If you have Michael, Antoine Fuqua's Michael Jackson musical biopic, in your early 2026 Oscar predictions, you might want to make an adjustment. The film likely won't be released in 2025 and may be split into two movies, Deadline reports.

Michael's current cut runs nearly four hours, and the possibility of it being split into two parts is on the table but not definite yet, according to the trade. The Lionsgate film is currently scheduled to open on Oct. 3, but the date remains in flux.

This development is not surprising after Lionsgate offered no updates on Michael during its CinemaCon presentation to movie theater exhibitors on Tuesday. This was a 180 from last year's CinemaCon when the studio shared a first look at Michael.

Image
“Michael” the upcoming biopic based on the late musician Michael Jackson could possibly be split into two movies, as distributor Lionsgate and Universal Pictures might push up the current Oct. 3 release date, according to a report in Deadline.

The film from director Antione Fuqua was a big part of 2024’s Lionsgate CinemaCon presentation, however no footage from the biopic was shown during these year’s convention, nor was it even mentioned.

The film stars Jackson’s own nephew, Jaafar Jackson, as the music icon in the film. Graham King/Gk Films produced, with a script written by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan.

“Michael” initially wrapped principal photography last May, but Logan’s script is currently being revised ahead of reshoots.

The film also stars Colman Domingo as family patriarch Joe Jackson, and Nia Long as Katherine Jackson. Miles Teller also stars as Jackson’s attorney and advisor John Branca.

Michael Jackson Biopic Likely Splitting into Two Movies and Delaying Release Date
Image
Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, “Michael,” may be split into two movies. As a result, the Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International project will likely push its current Oct. 3 release date.

While “Michael” was a major part of last year’s Lionsgate CinemaCon presentation, no footage from the project was shown during this year’s outing. The film, produced by “Bohemian Rhapsody’s” Graham King, wrapped principal photography in May 2024, but John Logan’s script is in the process of being revised in advance of reshoots.

“Michael,” which carries a roughly $155 million budget, stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, who makes his screen debut in the film. Colman Domingo and Nia Long will play family heads Joe and Katherine Jackson, while Miles Teller will play Jackson’s attorney and advisor John Branca. Larenz Tate will star as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, while Laura Harrier will play portray pioneering...

Michael Jackson Biopic ‘Michael’ Could Be Split Into Two Parts; Release Date In Flux – The Dish
Image
Exclusive: Sources are telling us that Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael, from Lionsgate, with a near four-hour cut, could be split into two movies. That’s an option on the table but not a definite at this time.

When you think of Jackson’s life — from Gary, In, to the Jackson 5, Off the Wall to Thriller, and to his undoing — it’s an epic story worthy of a two parts ala Wicked.

Will the Graham King production make its October 3 release date? Most likely not. But realize there’s a lot of sign-offs here with Universal handling overseas and Japan sold separately. A key factor also for a concert-like movie of this stature is access to Imax screens. King’s Bohemian Rhapsody, which was about another controversial pop star in Queen’s Freddie Mercury, overcame all obstacles and opened to $51 million stateside and crooned to north of $216M U.

CinemaCon: Lionsgate offers no ‘Michael’ updates, announces new ‘Hunger Games,’ ‘John Wick’ movies
Image
Those hoping to get a sneak peek at the upcoming Michael Jackson musical biopic Michael at CinemaCon this week were left wanting on Tuesday, as Lionsgate declined to show new footage of the controversial project. However, Michael is still scheduled for release on Oct. 3 despite the no-show.

The lack of material or information about the movie was perhaps telling, especially after producer Graham King (an Oscar winner for The Departed and the producer of Bohemian Rhapsody) revealed the first trailer for Michael during CinemaCon last year. According to Puck, the film faced several recent reshoots due to an alleged agreement signed between Jackson’s legal team and a then-underage accuser, who claimed the King of Pop had sexually abused him. Puck also reported the film would not shy away from the sexual abuse allegations levied against Jackson in the early 1990s.

Despite that significant baggage, Michael is the kind of...

‘Leaving Neverland’ Director Dan Reed on Making a Sequel About Michael Jackson Allegations: ‘My Goal Is Not to Knock Him Off His Pedestal — It Never Has Been’
Image
For director Dan Reed, “Leaving Neverland” was never about Michael Jackson.

“It was their story,” Reed says over Zoom from London about Wade Robson and James Safechuck, who in his bombshell 2019 documentary alleged that Jackson, the iconic late pop star, had sexually abused them as children. “A lot of people see it as a story about Michael Jackson, but it is literally the story of these two guys. And this film is just what happened next.”

Reed is referring to “Leaving Neverland 2: Surviving Michael Jackson,” his long-gestating follow-up that’s finally debuting on Tuesday — via Channel 4 in the U.K. and on YouTube in the U.S. — after six years. Featuring exclusive access to court hearings, the 50-minute documentary primarily focuses on Robson and Safechuck’s fight for justice after suing Jackson’s companies, which are governed by his estate, for neglecting to protect them from the alleged abuse.

Ice Cube’s Cult Favorite Comedy Franchise Dominating Netflix Charts As Its Final Movie Remains In Development Hell
Image
A cult classic comedy franchise starring Ice Cube has multiple installments trending on streaming three decades after the premiere of the first movie. Ice Cube is best known as a rap icon, having been a key member of the gangsta rap group N.W.A., which was formed in 1987. In the early 1990s, he began a career as an actor, making his feature debut in the 1991 John Singleton classic Boyz n the Hood, following that up with performances in Walter Hill's Trespass and Charles Burnett's The Glass Shield.

However, over the years, Ice Cube began to embrace more of a comic persona onscreen, which led him to star in multiple franchises in the comedy genre over the years. This includes the Barbershop franchise, which now includes three movies, a spinoff, and a television remake. He also starred in the 2005 road trip comedy Are We There Yet? and its 2007 sequel Are We Done Yet?...
