Two of the best classic horror movies of the 1980s will be screening soon in a double feature that no fan of the genre should miss. 1981's An American Werewolf in London and 1987's The Lost Boys will be playing at Los Angeles' Hollywood Forever Cemetery, as part of Cinespia's curated program that often includes genre classics. The one-night-only event is called Full Moon Slumber Party and will take place on Saturday, August 9.
As reported by Fangoria, the double-bill event will start at 6:45 Pm when the doors of the classic location open and fans enter the venue. As expected, the show doesn't only include the two screenings. Costumes are encouraged, and usually, there are surprise guests. A DJ will play music while guests can purchase items from the concession stands and take pictures in the photo booth. Per Cinespia's note:

Image Source: Paramount Pictures Thirty-seven years ago, back on June 29, 1988, Coming to America was released and it changed everything for romantic comedies. It was directed by John Landis, and Eddie Murphy famously starred. It wasn’t just some rom-com; it perfectly mixed that fairy tale vibe with super sharp, honest jabs at culture. It became an instant classic, just like that. The story kicks off with Prince Akeem Joffer. He’s the royal heir to Zamunda, right? But he’s totally over the whole arranged marriage thing – especially to a lady who, you know, clucks like a chicken. So what does he do? He ditches the palace, packs his bags, and heads straight for Queens, New York. Why? To find real love. Like, a woman who loves him for him, not his crown. He disguises himself as just a humble student. And his loyal sidekick, Semmi (played hilariously by Arsenio Hall...

Over 40 years ago, one of Eddie Murphy's finest comedic triumphs first graced screens, with 1983’s Trading Places flying to both critical and financial success. Following two ends of the class spectrum as their lives are switched, the film was both brilliantly funny and a clever commentary on the inequality gap of the early 1980s, one that is even more relevant today than ever. Alongside Murphy, the movie starred the likes of Dan Aykroyd, Ralph Bellamy, Jamie Lee Curtis, and a lesser-known, future Breaking Bad star, Giancarlo Esposito.
Now, 42 years later, Trading Places is proving utterly timeless, having officially entered the top 10 most-streamed titles on Tubi in the US, as of June 22, 2025. Entering the top 10 at spot #4, Trading Places outperformed six others in the top 10. This includes, at #10, Gerard Butler's Kandahar, at #9, the German classic The NeverEnding Story, and, at #8, Michael Douglas and Glenn Close's Fatal Attraction. Ninja Assassin...

Z2 Comics is on a mission (from God) to bring The Blues Brothersback for a new graphic novel that picks up nearly 20 years after the seminal film, starring John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd in their respective roles as Jake and Elwood Blues. The cult classic musical comedy opened in theaters on June 20, 1980, exactly 45 years ago today, and to celebrate its milestone anniversary, the two musicians are getting the band back together later this year for an all-new sequel that features a fresh cast of characters alongside a few familiar faces.
The graphic novel, titled The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joilet Jake, was written by Aykroyd's daughter Stella, Luke Pisano, and filmmaker James Werner, with art by Felipe Sobriero. The book's pages will continue the story from the original 1980 John Landis film by way of a new adventure about a young detective, a runaway orphan, and a mysterious jailbreak that leads to an investigation,...

The American filmmaker will be presented with the honorary leopard on Friday, August 15. He will also present his 2011 pic The Descendants and 2013 title Nebraska and participate in a public discussion.
Payne, a writer-director also behind the likes of Sideway and The Holdovers, has won two Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and been nominated for Best Director on three occasions.
After studying filmmaking at UCLA, Payne wrote and directed politically-charged comedy Citizen Ruth, starring Laura Dern, in 1996. It premiered at Sundance and led to a run of seven influential films, which have starred the likes of Paul Giamatti, Reese Witherspoon and Jack Nicholson.
“Alexander Payne is an erudite auteur with an encyclopaedic cinephile knowledge,” said Giona A. Nazzaro, Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival. “Gifted with an unerring sense for the bittersweet facets of human comedy,...

Legendary suspense anthology series The Twilight Zone could be making a return to the big screen courtesy of star and Severance director Ben Stiller.
Ben Stiller’s success on the Apple TV+ series Severance hasn’t gone unnoticed, and the actor-filmmaker continues to be a rather busy man because of it. However, despite juggling a third season of the mind-bending drama series, a fourth Fockers film, The Seven Five and the 1970s crime drama feature, Bag Man, a new report from The InSneider suggests that Stiller may also be shepherding a new take on The Twilight Zone through development.
According to the report, the project has been set up at Warner Bros Pictures and Appian Way, with the production still in the early stages. As yet, things have been going for “roughly six months,” with the project still awaiting a writer to come in and get Stiller’s ideas into some kind of script.

James Bond is as classic a character as can be. Having been around for more than seventy years, the character defines what it means to be timeless and has been reprised in films spanning across decades. Although audiences believe that it is the actors who played Bond over the years who made this possible, one could argue that the directors were just as important.
With the speculation surrounding who will play James Bond in the latest installments after the big shoes that Daniel Craig has left to be filled, past versions seem to have been forgotten over time. There is no denying that Pierce Brosnan’s depiction of Bond was also just as iconic. Furthermore, British director Roger Spottiswoode directed Brosnan’s second Bond movie, Tomorrow Never Dies, but he almost made the Bond film preceding that, which proved to be a smash hit.

Ballerinastar Ana de Armas is going from underground to underwater, starring alongside Tom Cruise in Doug Liman's sci-fi action movie Deeper. The two actors can be seen in their respective summer blockbusters this year — de Armas in the highly anticipated John Wick film (which is not a sequel or a spin-off) and Cruise in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning — but they will soon be joining forces on the big screen for Liman's long-in-development aquatic thriller, and new details about the project are starting to surface.
De Armas, who stars in Ballerina as Eve Macarro, an assassin being trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma to avenge her father's death, seemingly launched into another bout of training straight after her starring role in the John Wick film. George Wendt is best known for playing a regular at the bar where everybody knows your name. Yet other than Norm on Cheers, I mostly — and fondly — remember the late Wendt for two of his horror roles. Firstly, it’s hard to forget him as the nosy neighbor in 1985’s House; playing opposite William Katt, Wendt’s supporting character offered much-appreciated laughs in that rather tense horror-comedy. Then over a decade after closing out his tab on Cheers, Wendt landed not only a part in the anthology series Masters of Horror, he was, on this somewhat rare occasion, actually playing the lead.

In addition to his incredible work ethic, quirky British humor, and love of life, he was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. While being a part of Hollywood may be a dream for many, it is worth noting that filming a movie isn’t always all fun and games. What’s a better example of this than John Landis and Steven Spielberg’s 1983 movie, Twilight Zone: The Movie? While the movie opened to mixed reviews, it remains one of the most memorable titles in Tinseltown, albeit for all the wrong reasons.
After an unfortunate accident took place on the set of Twilight Zone, the movie not only ended up with injured team members, but three dead actors – Vic Morrow and two child actors, Myca Dinh Le and Renee Shin-Yi Chen, who were just seven and six years old. Here’s everything there is to know about the accident that will always remain a stain on Hollywood’s legacy.

“Rust,” as the whole world knows, is a movie that was the seat of a horrific on-set tragedy. During the shooting of a scene at the Bonanza Creek Ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico, Alec Baldwin, who is the film’s star and one of its producers, discharged a gun that was being used as a prop and that somehow contained live rounds. The weapon went off, killing the film’s cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, and injuring the director, Joel Souza.
Now that “Rust” has been completed and is finally being released, this terrible event regrettably but inevitably places “Rust” on that small but dicey roster of films that become famous because someone got violently killed in the process of making them. Is it part of the tainted karma of this category that the films themselves end up struggling to justify their existence? Vic Morrow was beheaded by a helicopter blade...

Performers have the uncanny ability to embody a character with nothing more than their acting talents. But sometimes, a role requires the skills of a makeup artist. Throughout film history, there have been many instances when an actor became unrecognizable for a project. In recent years, that has become easier, thanks to motion capture technology and visual effects. For example, Josh Brolin was wearing tennis balls and a bodysuit -- not purple paint -- while playing Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which made the character much less terrifying behind the scenes.
However, it's always more impressive when the work is a combination of an actor's abilities and the makeup team's prowess. Whether they turned into a creature of the night or a real-life serial killer, the actors on this list are just some of the stars who became unrecognizable for one of their roles.

Did Michael Jackson want to play Spider-Man? (Photo Credit – Prime Video)
In the 1990s, Michael Jackson made a serious attempt to buy Marvel Comics. His goal wasn’t to grow a media empire—it was to play Spider-Man. At the time, Marvel was on the verge of collapse, filing for bankruptcy in 1996. Jackson saw an opportunity and reportedly discussed purchasing the company with his family.
His nephew, Taj Jackson, later confirmed in an interview with Popcorned Planet that the singer wanted to work with Stan Lee and “probably wanted to be Spider-Man.” Marvel, before its cinematic boom, was struggling across the board. The comic book publisher had lost its luster, its stock was delisted from the New York Stock Exchange, and its animated TV presence was fading. Toy Biz, a toy company producing Marvel-themed merchandise, stepped in and eventually merged with Marvel. The company’s future looked uncertain.

There have been many memorable music videos over the last few decades, but for many, still the undisputed champ would be Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” The iconic video, directed by John Landis in 1983, changed the game for the artform, creating a vibrant, haunting world that was part music video, part horror movie. It’s still a favorite for many of us who grew up in the 80s, and it’s seemingly always finding new fans with each passing generation. Jackson was a force in plenty of notable videos in his time, but one that has escaped most people’s notice is the one we’re going to focus on today: “Ghosts.” It’s fairly surprising how under-the-radar this video has been since its debut in 1996 considering the names involved with it. And while part of its low profile could certainly be attributed to the controversies that have swirled around the pop singer for years,...

Beware the moon, because Rucking Fotten‘s has released an American Werewolf in London collection.
It includes T-shirts ($33.99-34.99), long sleeves ($43.99), all-over print tees ($59.99), zip-up hoodies ($74.99), embroidered dad hats ($36.99), and 60×50 woven blanket tapestries ($62.99).
“An American Werewolf in London set the standard for werewolf movies for the next 4+ decades and will be a staple in the horror genre for the rest of our lives. I remember seeing it for the first time as a child and the transformation that Rick Baker created terrified me to my core. I still get chills when I watch that scene,” Rucking Fotten wrote.
“This movie was classic before it was even released, and 41 years later it’s standing the test of time. We wanted to revamp our original design released in 2019 and bring to life new designs that capture what this movie has meant to us over the years. We hope everyone loves it as much as we do!

Not all of the classic Universal Monsters were based on classic stories. While Frankenstein and Dracula came from the minds of Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker, The Wolfman, and previously Werewolf of London, was based on folklore dating back centuries rather than fiction. While the character has had a hard time coming back into the limelight with the disappointing Wolfman from 2010 and even more disappointing Wolf Man from 2025, the myth has done well for itself even while not being as in the public favor as the Zombie or Vampire. Those original films may not be based on books but that didn’t stop writers from creating their own stories or studios from adapting them. This includes the likes of Hammer Studios Curse of the Werewolf being adapted from The Werewolf of Paris and The Wolfen getting turned into the 1981 movie Wolfen. Speaking of 1981, there were two other rather small werewolf...

Since its surprising theatrical run, The Substance has established itself as an instant classic. It showcased incredible horror scenes and brilliant makeup effects and opened the door for other body horror films in the years ahead. Movies like Together have been picked up by major studios after The Substance‘s success, and there will undeniably be more body horror flicks in production because of Fargeat’s masterpiece. While we wait for those movies, let’s check out some of the great horror, comedy, and drama films that both inspired The Substance and will appeal to fans of the movie.

We know, you know that we're telling the truth when we say "Psych" was one of the greatest procedural shows ever made. The USA mystery series followed the case work of private investigators Shawn Spencer and Burton "Gus" Guster.
Each week, the two man-children -- often in half-reluctant collaboration with a dysfunctional Santa Barbara Police Department -- would use their particular set of skills to bring criminals to justice, in stories that delightfully dumbed-down the overly self-serious crime procedural subgenre to make it work as wacky, irreverent, and subversive comedy.
In anticipation of a potential fourth sequel film from Peacock, we've delved back into the case files to find our favorite mysteries. No deceiving, no bending -- here are the 15 best episodes of Psych, ranked.

Clue may not be one of the best mystery movies of all time, but it's certainly one of the funniest. It's based on the board game Clue, in which players try to find out who killed Mr. Boddy and end the game by identifying the murderer, the weapon, and the room in which the murder took place. Director Jonathan Lynn (who would later direct My Cousin Vinny) co-wrote the screenplay with John Landis, who also co-wrote and directed comedy classics including The Blues Brothers and Coming to America. With those two behind the script, the result is a movie that's absolutely packed with hilarious one-liners that often come out of nowhere. This may be a whodunit, but the genre is largely just an excuse to make a ton of jokes.

In 1961, Richard Matheson published a short story called "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" that became a cornerstone of TheTwilight Zone franchise. Rod Serling's original series included an instant-classic adaptation that has been endlessly referenced, and remade twice. 1983's Twilight Zone: The Movie, and Jordan Peele's 2019 reboot series both tackled the tale in contrasting ways, and watching the three versions together reveals much about why the Matheson story is so special.
The 1963 Twilight Zone episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" featured a performance from William Shatner that makes up for the low-budget creature he sees on the wing of his plane. 20 years later, George "Mad Max" Miller remade the story with advanced FX for Twilight Zone: The Movie, and in 2019 the reboot series included "Nightmare at 30,000 Feet," a modern take that may be the most paranoid of them all.

Stephen King is quite the prolific author. In addition to countless short stories, the man tends to publish at least one book a year, churning out high-quality stories that terrify readers on a regular basis. That's a wealth of tales for Hollywood to adapt, and they have indeed come knocking at King's door many, many times. His stories are the basis for some absolute classic horror films, including "The Shining" and "Misery," but he's also the writer behind the iconic coming-of-age film "Stand By Me." In the past few years alone, we've gotten great films like "The Boogeyman," "Gerald's Game," "1922," and "Doctor Sleep."
As a result, at any given time, there are tons of King adaptations currently in the works. Some are being planned as films, others as television shows; some of those shows are limited in scope, while others might go on for years. While a handful of...

Exclusive: Zygi Kamasa, the veteran film executive who launched True Brit Entertainment 15 months ago, is on a scary mission to bring back Britain’s horror film heritage. Today, he reveals that his company will release period shocker The Dreadful starring Game of Thrones duo Sophie Turner and Kit Harington and Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden in the UK.
“I feel very much that I want to go further in trying to encourage the UK industry to make more horror movies because horror still works consistently well in cinemas,” Kamasa insists, citing the success of last year’s occult horror Longlegs.
Sophie Turner, Kit Harington
But Longlegs, and many other recent horror movies, were American made.
“If we’re going to do horror in this country, go back. I mean we were dominating horror in the Sixties and Seventies, the Hammer horror and all that.

Stephen King's novels have been adapted many times, and the author didn't have a hard time revealing he disagreed with some adaptations. One of his upcoming adaptations is The Monkey, which makes a big change from the source material.
The Monkey comes from Longlegs director Osgood Perkins and will star The White Lotus Season 2 star Theo James in a dual role as twin brothers Hal and Bill. The adaptation is based on King's 1980 short story but, outside from the typical blood and gore of the genre, Osgood added some dark comedy. In an interview with Empire, via ScreenRant, Perkins described his approach to The Monkey and King's response to his changes.

The older I get the more I appreciate and connect with Werewolf of London. It is a movie that does not follow the established rules of werewolf movies because it was created in a time before those rules were written. Many, if not most, of the most notable and enduring films of the subgenre deal in externalizing the internal struggles of the young using the metaphor of the beast within. Most of these characters are breaking away from their parents and childhoods, seeking to make their own way in the world.
Though Larry Talbot in The Wolf Man (1941) appears in the mature body of Lon Chaney, Jr., he is in many ways an angsty teenager tormented by the conflicting feelings of simultaneously falling in love for the first time while part of himself that he cannot control wishes to ravage her and tear her to shreds in the process. The Monkey director Osgood Perkins reveals why he changed Stephen King's story into a comedy and what the author's reaction was. Based on King's 1980 horror short story, the upcoming movie stars Theo James as twin brothers Hal and Bill, following the characters as they experience a series of shocking deaths after they discover their father's toy monkey. As is revealed in The Monkey's trailer, Perkins has added a great deal of dark comedy to the original King story, in addition to an abudance of blood and gore.
In a recent interview with Empire, Perkins breaks down his approach to The Monkey, affirming that his take on the story is very different from the source material. "I took liberties like a motherf--ker," he says. He reveals that James Wan's production company, Atomic Monster, optioned the rights to King's story several years ago, and that they approached him to direct it.

The allure of the werewolf has persisted for centuries, rooted in mythology that speaks to our darkest fears and primal instincts. Representing a loss of control and a descent into savagery, werewolves embody the tension between humanity and beast. In cinema, these themes have been explored in a variety of ways, from tragic tales to gory thrill rides.

Theo James is making his horror debut — and he’s already dripping with blood.
The “White Lotus” and “Time Traveler’s Wife” teams up with his fellow Warner Bros. staple James Wan, who produces Osgood Perkins’ “The Monkey.”
James plays twins Bill and Hal, who discover their dad’s old monkey toy in the attic. The official logline simply reads: “When twin brothers find a mysterious wind-up monkey, a series of outrageous deaths tear their family apart. Twenty-five years later, the monkey begins a new killing spree forcing the estranged brothers to confront the cursed toy.”
The full synopsis is still elusive, but a clip was shared to tease the haunting horror feature.

With new versions of Wolf Man and Frankenstein arriving in 2025, the Universal Monsters are very much the center of attention. However, during the golden age of horror, Universal Pictures also produced a variety of lesser-known masterpieces that can stand up to heavy hitters like Dracula. What follows are ten of the studio's best fright features that are not familiar to everyone — but they should be.
The most famous Universal horror films are carried by iconic characters like the Count and Frankenstein's Monster, and the charisma of actors like Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff. However, their best performances are not necessarily in their best-known movies, and this list includes smaller but equally-high quality. These ten supernatural shockers, Satanic thrillers, and hilarious horror comedies prove that Universal Pictures has much more to offer fans than the usual suspects.

There are two genres that are lynchpins in the land of movies and TV for that matter. Vampires and The Mafia. Rarely have these two crossed paths but in 1992 they did under the eye of a man more known for his work with werewolves. Innocent Blood would show us a new sort of vampire and would be a love letter to both genres with a massive list of cameos and in jokes that would keep many a horror fan happy. So, lets head down to Pittsburgh and see if we can find a blood sucker as we take a look back at Innocent Blood.

As you may be aware, working with Chevy Chase isn’t always the most pleasant experience. He famously brawled with Bill Murray during an episode of Saturday Night Live, prompted director Chris Columbus to quit National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and alienated the entire cast and crew of Community so badly that the writers decided that he was fired from the show and his character killed off (we later find out that Pierce Hawthorne literally jizzed himself to death).
But what about on the set of the beloved ‘80s comedy Three Amigos? Although he feuded with director John Landis, Chase seemed to get along with stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, at least enough to occasionally reunite over the years. Then again, Short and Martin did essentially replace him with Selena Gomez.

George Folsey Jr., the longtime producer and film editor for director John Landis, has died at the age of 85, according to his family.
The son of 13-time Oscar-nominated cinematographer George J. Folsey, whose credits included “Meet Me in St. Louis” and “Forbidden Planet,” Folsey Jr. got his start in editing at Kabc in Los Angeles, where he edited documentaries and news reports for broadcast in the 1960s.
He then moved into cinema by learning the trade at MGM, where his father had worked, alongside “Grand Prix” Oscar-winning editor Henry Berman. His first feature film project was Alexander Singer’s “Glass Houses,” a 1972 film in which Folsey was editor, cinematographer and producer.
A year later, Folsey was hired to edit John Landis’ debut feature film “Schlock,” a sendup of “King Kong” in which an ape man chased out of his cave wanders into a Southern California neighborhood and develops an unrequited crush on a teen girl.

After cutting Landis’ directorial debut, Schlock (1973), Folsey edited the Landis-helmed The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977), Animal House (1978), The Blues Brothers (1980) and Coming to America (1988), which he also produced.

George Lucas’ Biggest Career Flop Was a Blessing in Disguise for Both Marvel and Star Wars Franchise
George Lucas is one of the most influential filmmakers of all time, having defined the modern blockbuster with the success of Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises. Just in time for holiday festivities, writer/director Osgood Perkins has shared a first-look clip from his new film “The Monkey,” a Stephen King adaptation out February 21. This is Perkins’ first film since “Longlegs” became Neon’s highest-grossing movie ever and one of the top-grossing horror movies of 2024.
This gory adaptation of the 1980 Stephen King short story centers on Theo James as twin brothers Haal and Bill, who witness a string of horrifying deaths where a toy monkey may hold a clue to the killings. The cast also includes Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, and Sarah Levy, with Perkins writing and directing the film.
He’s said that “The Monkey” will be his most comic film to date. “It’s feeling more like an old John Landis movie or a Joe Dante movie or a Robert Zemeckis movie,” Perkin told The Hollywood Reporter. “I saw an opportunity to make a wry,...

In the early 2000s, the resurrection of the slasher wave, kickstarted by Wes Craven's Scream, fell into a decline as audiences got bored of the usual whodunits and teenage protagonists. In 2004, horror transformed thanks to James Wans' Saw, which began the horribly named "torture porn" era. However, coming out around the same time, and getting in before the genre reset, was a smaller film called Creep. No, not the 2014 film with the same title by Mark Duplass. The Creep made a decade before was a British film written and directed by Christopher Smith. As a slasher, it aimed to do things differently by making the killer more monstrous and the final girl rather unlikeable. And then there was that subway setting, which was influenced directly by the John Landis classic An American Werewolf in London.
