For fans of the beloved and Emmy award-winning adult animated comedy Big Mouth, the announcement that the series' eighth season would be its last was a sad moment. But it's been a long two years, and I think we can all agree that with time comes not only age, but wisdom, as our favorite Bridgeton teens well know by now. And if they don't, well, they will by the time the final season premieres this spring, as its streaming home Netflix announced alongside a bevy of guest stars that are sure to impress even the most unaffected of teens (and adults).

Netflix has announced that the eighth and final season of Big Mouth will premiere globally on the streaming service on May 23, 2025.
In the 10-episode season, our beloved Bridgeton teens tackle new challenges as high schoolers, such as driving, drugs, sexual inexperience, enthusiastic consent, porn, and the teenage mind, cancel culture, their changing bodies, and (in the end) fear of the looming future.
Through it all, friendship is the cornerstone for surviving this time of life – whether one’s puberty is just beginning, like for Nick, who gets his first growth spurt, or near its conclusion, like for a maturing (and prematurely balding) Andrew.
At the height of the season, when many of our characters are in crisis, Compassion (personified as a new creature voiced by Holly Hunter) emerges as a crucial way forward. Ultimately, though, this season is about the importance of sticking by and supporting your friends, especially when life gets overwhelming and messy.

If you haven't seen the animated Netflix series Big Mouth yet, now is a good time to start. The show will be coming to an end soon, so if you want to catch the final episodes as soon as they are dropped and clearly be caught up, watch now. We promise you will be entertained.
The show was created by real-life friends Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg. It is a look at how being a teenager and going through puberty can really stink, but having friends one can count on makes everything in life better. If that sounds overly fluffy, so be it. The show isn't, but it also pulls back from being depressing.
The actors who have been involved in the series have been a talented bunch. The mainstays have been Kroll, of course, as well as Fred Armisen, Ayo Edebiri (The Bear), Jessi Klein, Jason Mantzoukas, Jordan Peele,...

With over 300 million subscribers worldwide, Netflix is the biggest name in the world of streaming, but the company is still chasing Hollywood’s top honour: the Oscar for Best Picture. Although Netflix hasn’t won Best Picture, it’s come close several times; in fact, the studio received the most Oscar nominations out of any studio at the recent Academy Awards ceremony.
While speaking with Variety, Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos was asked if he’s disappointed that Netflix has yet to win an Oscar for Best Picture. “It’s hard for me to say, ‘Do they have it out for Netflix?’ when we’ve been the most-nominated studio for the past three years,” Sarandos said. “There’s something about [the Academy] — you nominate the movies that you respect and admire, and you vote for best picture for the movie that you love. We have to make a movie that people love.“

Jonathan Frakes, known for playing Commander William Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, and director of numerous Star Trek episodes and films, recently gushed over the upcoming Starfleet Academy series.
Speaking during a panel at Indiana Comic Con, the veteran actor-director confirmed filming has wrapped on the entire first season of the Paramount+ series and revealed some hype-worthy details about the production. "It has the most massive set of any Star Trek ever," Frakes said via Collider. There's also a spaceship on the show. I hope that's not a f***ng secret. I've had a bad experience with oversharing, and I hope that wasn't an overshare, but it's fabulous. The sets are great. The scripts are... they're funny, which is always helpful on Star Trek."
Production design isn't the only line on the budget. Renowned, Oscar-nominated talent is among the Starfleet Academy cast. "Holly Hunter is in it, Paul Giamatti is in it!

Apparently, though, what $300M can’t buy you includes a serviceable screenplay, multi-dimensional characters, or even barely functional, expositional dialogue. For a moment in the 1990s, adapting a John Grisham novel into a movie was akin to printing money. It all started with "The Firm," a film that had the good fortune of coming along just as its leading man, Tom Cruise, was really hitting his stride that decade thanks to "A Few Good Men." Of course, it helped that the 1993 legal thriller also paired Tommy C with the dream team of director Sydney Pollack, writer Robert Towne, and a killer supporting cast featuring Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ed Harris, Holly Hunter, Wilford Brimley, and the ever-on-point Gene Hackman.
(Fun fact: "The Firm" is also the flick Aubrey Plaza's character is watching as she practices her meat-beating skills in "The To Do List." If having your movie serve as the punchline in a teen sex romp isn't something all filmmakers aspire to, then I dunno what we're even doing.)

Now, on Collider Ladies Night with Perri Nemiroff, Tatiana Maslany talked about her experience with the upcoming Star Trek series while promoting her new horror movie, The Monkey. Maslany spoke about what it was like to work with some of the cast, including Kerrice Brooks (My Old Ass), Holly Hunter, and Paul Giamatti.

Millie Bobby Brown may be the star of “Stranger Things,” but she’s never been allowed to watch new episodes before they premiere on Netflix, including the upcoming fifth and final season. “We haven’t done that for 10 years,” she told me Monday night at the premiere of her new movie, “The Electric State.” “I don’t think they’re going to start on the last season.”
In other words, she said, “I see it when it comes out just like everyone else does.”
No premiere date for Season 5 has been announced. In January, series creators Matt and Ross Duffer said post-production was ahead of schedule.
In “Electric State,” from brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, Brown plays an orphaned teenager who meets a drifter (Chris Pratt) while traveling across the American West with a robot in search of her younger brother (Woody Norman). The cast also includes Ke Huy Quan,...

Heading into the 95th Academy Awards, the Best Supporting Actress race was between Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Jamie Lee Curtis for Everything Everywhere All At Once. While Curtis would be the eventual winner, nabbing her first win off of her sole nomination, many (including myself) predicted Bassett to take the Oscar. And like many, Bassett also feels like she had a right to win.
Speaking with Town & Country Magazine, Angela Bassett recalled that night in the Dolby Theatre as one of one of surprise, something that was tough to face so early on, as the Supporting categories are typically handed out early on. “I found it interesting. Interesting that I wouldn’t be allowed to be disappointed at an outcome where I thought I was deserving. I love applauding people. But in that moment…” She added, “No, I have put in: put in the time, put in good work over time.

There is nothing more human than expressing disappointment, since so many say it's best not to express it — especially during a competition. Actress Angela Bassett found herself in that position during the 2023 Academy Awards when she was up for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Some thought she was the front-runner for the award but, in what some call an upset, Jamie Lee Curtis took home the trophy for her turn in Everything Everywhere All at Once. At the time, many thought Bassett looked visibly upset on camera when she lost, and now the actress is admitting that she was disappointed because she felt she was deserving.
During a new interview for Town & Country, Bassett was asked about her reaction when she didn't win the big award. She admitted that she "found it interesting" that she couldn't express disappointment, and went on to elaborate...

Angela Bassett has garnered some very high praise for her acting, at one point garnering a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the Academy Awards for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Her on-screen reaction to Jamie Lee Curtis getting the win for Everything Everywhere All at Oncegarnered a lot of media attention at the time, as Bassett seemingly couldn't hide her disappointment.
Bassett reflected on the situation during a recent interview with Town & Country. On the show, when Curtis' win was announced, the reactions of the other nominees could be seen, varying from one end of the spectrum to the other. On one side, fellow Everything Everywhere All at Once star Stephanie Hsu took to her feet to scream in excitement when Curtis got the win. The other nominees, Hong Chau (The Whale) and Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin) politely clapped and smiled.

Angela Bassett recently told Town & Country magazine that she was “deserving” of the best supporting actress Oscar for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Bassett was nominated in 2023 but lost to Jamie Lee Curtis for “Everything Everywhere All at Once.” Her stoic reaction as Curtis’ name was called went viral on social media.
“I found it interesting,” Bassett said of the loss and the reaction that ensued. “Interesting that I wouldn’t be allowed to be disappointed at an outcome where I thought I was deserving.”
“I love applauding people,” she added. “But in that moment … No, I have put in: put in the time, put in good work over time. I didn’t think that was a gift. I thought it was a given.”
Bassett earned critical acclaim for her performance as Queen Ramonda in the “Black Panther” sequel, which made her the first actor be Oscar nominated from a Marvel movie.

Author John Grisham has turned his legal experience into a host of best-selling novels, many of which have become television series and movies. Feature films based on Grisham's work have grossed hundreds of millions of dollars at the domestic box office alone, attesting to his widespread appeal.
Not every one of the nine feature films based on Grisham's works is about the law, however, with Christmas with the Kranks standing alone as a comedy. Grisham has also tried his hand at writing at least one movie screenplay, Mickey, but the best-known John Grisham movies are the legal thrillers based on the books for which he's so well known.
The chronology of movies based on Grisham's work is a fascinating look back at just how far his star has risen. Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have appeared in Grisham flicks, making them even more must-see movies.

The Romantic-Comedy genre has served cheeseballs to audiences who have often flocked to them for a pat on the back for years. It has not only provided the audience with the much-needed hope that love is around the corner but has also entertained them with neatly packed humor that makes a dolly out of life’s most lovable moments. However, with changing times, the genre has undergone a makeover of sorts. More films have established the idea of a rom-com but have twisted the narrative to serve the greater good. Subverting the genre has thus become a common trait. Indie films of late have often done wonders within the genre itself. The best romantic comedy movies of the decade have thus come out from the indie cinema. 24 of those are as follows:

The newest addition to the Star Trekfranchise family, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, just received a big update. Per Collider, the series, set in the 32nd century, has just finished filming its first season at Toronto’s Star Trek Stage.
Two of the series’ cast members, Zoë Steiner and Bella Shepard took to social media to commemorate the occasion. In her post, Steiner held up a Starfleet Academy pennant given to the cast and crew for the first season. She also touched on the experience in her caption, writing, “that’s a wrap on starfleet academy season one!! beyond grateful to have had this Huge experience alongside my starfleet fam. it’s easily one of the most challenging and fulfilling things I’ve ever done - on both a creative and personal level. big love to the entire crew and production team for their insane commitment to hard work, creative collaboration,...

From Ghostface to a paranormal DJ? Deadline reports that the filmmaking team known as Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) are teaming up with Paul Giamatti for a biopic about the late Art Bell. Best known as the founder and original host of Coast to Coast Am, Bell would field unscreened calls from all sorts of people, listening to stories of alien abduction, conspiracy theories, strange creatures, and just about everything you could imagine.
According to Deadline, several studios, including Universal, Amazon, and Warner Bros., are bidding on the Art Bell biopic. Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves are writing the script. This is a bit of a different project from the team that has given us Ready or Not, Abigail, and two Scream movies, but it has the potential to be quite interesting. Plus, I could watch Paul Giamatti do just about anything.

On a particularly gloomy afternoon in Los Angeles, Demi Moore walks into the room, her presence instantly brightening the space. Dressed in a chic yet relaxed ensemble, she carries her designer handbag, —but her adorable, tiny, wide-eyed puppy is not with her.
Moore is no stranger to reinvention. From the breakout success of “Ghost” (1990) to the cultural phenomenon of “Indecent Proposal” (1993), and now to her critically acclaimed turn in “The Substance,” she has had a career that defies Hollywood’s conventional wisdom. But this time, something feels different.
“This whole journey has just been a shock and awe,” she says with humility and amusement. “I had no expectations, so everything has been a surprise, and honestly, that’s a really beautiful place to be sitting in.”
At 62, Moore has just earned her first Academy Award nomination for best actress, a recognition that was both unexpected and long overdue. Her performance...

DC and Marvel have long been the kings when it came to the superhero genre. There aren’t many films these days that we could attribute to any other studio other than Marvel or DC. They have this sheer dominance, built through interconnected sagas, iconic characters, and billions of dollars at the box office. However, it wasn’t always the case.
Marvel was gaining momentum with the Blade films and DC had just enlisted Christopher Nolan to reinvent Batman when Disney came up with a family-based superhero movie. Up until that point, Pixar’s films dealt with themes tailored for children, but they chose a solid story with mature themes when they ventured into the superhero territory with The Incredibles.

Many of the best-animated movies were standalone creations and did not evolve into sprawling franchises. The few animated movies that generated multiple sequels often burned out, with mainstream audiences growing weary of cookie-cutter jokes and predictable plots. However, a minority of animated film franchises have maintained consistent quality, and studios are starting to understand what makes an animated franchise have staying power.
Whether international or domestic, animation studios are now hitting their stride better than ever before. Animated movie franchises not only captivate children but also resonate with adults, appealing to audiences ranging from mainstream viewers to fine arts enthusiasts. Not bound by the limits of reality, animated franchises are the perfect vehicle to explore gigantic worlds with infinite possibilities.

Star Trek's newest series, Starfleet Academy, is in production for the first season of the series, but in October 2024, the series was renewed for a second season. Paramount executives don't know how the new series will be accepted by fans, and it's a risky manuever to take a chance on the first season, let alone a second.
Though there has been some speculation that this is a cost-effective measure because there are fans looking forward to the series due to its setting and going behind the scenes of the Academy where every Starfleet officer got their start...well, most of them. There were one or two, like Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine that got a field commission. So once the sets are built, it's easier to renew the series than to invest in an even newer series.

Sydney Pollack's 1993 thriller "The Firm" was the first film in a long series of mega-hits to be based on the literary output of John Grisham. Grisham, for those unfamiliar, was a lawyer-turned-writer who authored many supra-best-selling legal thrillers throughout the 1990s, including "The Pelican Brief," "The Client," "The Chamber," "A Time to Kill," and "Runaway Jury." There was a time when no one at an airport was without a Grisham novel in hand. Most of Grisham's books were about a young, upstart lawyer, new to the profession, who uncovers a vast legal conspiracy. To date, Grisham has written about 50 novels and four non-fiction books, and many of his bigger hits have been adapted into equally successful films.

Criterion Collection’s art director Eric Skillman is constantly collecting names.
Skillman is the mastermind behind finding the artists who design or illustrate Criterion Collection’s DVD artwork, and that’s why he has thousands of artists in an archive.
He’s always looking for new artists, but he’s also looking for the perfect match. Speaking with Variety over Zoom, Skillman explains the process of matching artist to project. “I find out the upcoming schedule a month or two before I need to assign. Sometimes I’m scrambling to watch the movies I have seen before we assign.”
Having access to great films allows Skillman to find the best illustrators and artists around the world. Sometimes it’s a simple composition, other times, it’s looking at a scene and distilling that into an illustration. And when possible, it’s a collaboration with the filmmaker.

In the last seven years, there has been a positive glut of "Star Trek" introduced into the world. Just as the Upn launched with the debut of "Star Trek: Voyager in 1995," so did the new streaming service CBS All Access launch with the debut of "Star Trek: Discovery" in 2017. This was the first "Star Trek" TV series on the airwaves since the cancelation of "Star Trek: Enterprise" in 2005, and many Trekkies were eager to see if the franchise could be restarted. An entirely new creative team had taken over "Star Trek," and they sought to update the decades-old series for a streaming audience.
"Discovery," we would later learn, was only one of many "Star Trek" projects that would debut on CBS All Access — later renamed Paramount+ — over the next few years. To keep people subscribed, Paramount produced "Short Treks." As a hook for fans of "Star Trek: The Next Generation,...

In a sea of science fiction series that take themselves far too seriously, “Star Trek Lower Decks” has been a sweet and funny balm, a loving parody of the iconic speculative fiction universe that celebrates and pisses on its history in equal measure. Like all good sitcoms, however, “Lower Decks” is coming to an end, and the finale promises to be…maybe, possibly, moderately serious?
The animated series will premiere the finale to its fifth and final season Thursday, December 19, on Paramount+. The episode, titled “The New Next Generation” in reference to the beloved ’80s-’90s “Star Trek” series starring Patrick Stewart, will have an extended running time, and bring back a few characters from the show’s past. Among them are Klingon brothers, Malor (voiced by Sam Witwer) and Ma’ah (Jon Curry), first seen in a previous Season 5 episode. In an exclusive clip shared with IndieWire, the duo...

Jesse Eisenberg, the Hollywood star of films like The Social Network, Zombieland, and Now You See Me, entered the superhero arena in 2016 with Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Eisenberg plays the supervillain Lex Luthor in the film, but today, the actor is not exactly happy with his performance. In fact, he even blames himself for the poor performance of the Dceu movie.
As reported by CinemaBlend, Eisenberg spoke on the Armchair Expert podcast about the experience of making the film, which he refers to as "this Batman movie." In other words, it seems he's not exactly fond of his participation in the superhero film:
"I was in this Batman movie and the Batman movie was so poorly received, and I was so poorly received. I've never said this before, and it's kind of embarrassing to admit, but I genuinely think it actually hurt my career in a real way,...

Becky Lynch has joined Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, which adds a global WWE superstar to its already stacked cast. Executive produced by co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is currently filming in Toronto. With a cast led by Academy Award-winner Holly Hunter and Academy Award-nominee Paul Giamatti, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy has already received an early season 2 renewal on Paramount+.
Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is set in the late 32nd century after the end of Star Trek: Discovery. Reopened after a century following the galactic calamity of The Burn, Starfleet Academy welcomes a new and diverse class of Starfleet hopefuls, under the guidance of Holly Hunter's Captain, who is also Starfleet Academy's Chancellor. However, a new threat to the United Federation of Planets emerges, likely tied to Paul Giamatti's recurring villain. Becky Lynch plays one of the Starfleet Officers potentially encountering this new enemy.
Not your average average Starfleet officer!

The Electric State looks like the most Netflix movie ever made. It’s a sci-fi action dramedy starring Millie Bobby Brown that reportedly cost over $300 million to produce due to Netflix’s talent buyout compensation structure. You can gaze upon all that money in the new trailer the streaming service released Wednesday, which has 53,000 views after three hours at press time.
The film is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and The Gray Man. It stars Mbb with long hair and Chris Pratt with a different hairstyle than he’s ever had before. The film is set in a retro-futurist alternate universe 1994 after a robot uprising ended with humans banishing robots to a sort of open-air prison spanning much of the American West. Brown plays Michelle, a teenage girl who teams up with a nice robot and a disillusioned veteran of the robot...
