Daryl Hannah

Trivia

Daryl Hannah

Edit
  • On two occasions has run after and captured muggers in New York City. She says that both men's faces displayed mixed emotions when they realized who was sitting on their chests, holding them for police.
  • A story on America's Most Wanted (1988) showed how she goes undercover to help rescue children as young as 6 years old from the brothels in Bangkok.
  • As a child, she was so shy that at one point she was diagnosed as borderline autistic. Even today, she says she likes to just sit in a corner and observe people.
  • Suffers from agoraphobia (fear of open spaces), a phobia she kept secret for many years, fearing it might ruin her acting career
  • Was in a serious relationship with John Kennedy Jr. for several years, but never married due to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's disapproval of her son marrying an actress. Hannah has also dated Warren Beatty (who coincidentally was once involved with Mrs. Kennedy as well), Jackson Browne, Val Kilmer, and Brad Renfro.
  • Is missing part of her left hand index finger, as a result of an accident when she was a child - she got her finger caught in a pulley. She sometimes uses a prosthetic finger in movies.
  • (June 13, 2006) Was forcibly removed from a walnut tree on a South Central Los Angeles Community farm where she had stayed for 23 days to protest the sale of the farm to developers. Forty other protesters were arrested at the same time. Fellow activist Joan Baez also participated in the protest.
  • Her childhood interest in movies grew out of a lifelong battle with insomnia.
  • In an interview with British newspaper, "The Guardian", in February 2010, she stated that her favourite role was that of "Pris" in Blade Runner (1982) and her low points were movies that she had done just for the cash and that, hopefully, went straight to video.
  • The box-office performance of Splash (1984) was a large part of the reason that the Walt Disney company greenlighted not only a made-for-television sequel, but also its animated feature La Petite Sirène (1989). However, the fact that her character was blonde inspired the company to go in a radically different direction for its new heroine. For this reason, the choice was made that Ariel would have red hair.
  • Since there was no girls' soccer team at Francis W. Parker School in Chicago, she played on the boys' team.
  • Was considered for the role of Mia Wallace in Pulp Fiction (1994), but Uma Thurman was cast instead.
  • As a keen environmentalist, Daryl lives off of solar power and drives a car that runs off of recycled fast food grease.
  • Attended and graduated from the University of Southern California School of Theatre.
  • Chosen by Empire magazine as one of the 100 Sexiest Stars in film history (#96). (1995)
  • She attended the 2005 Gumball 3000 car race with Tina Basich. They drove a pink Range Rover Hybrid that used biodiesel made from cooking oil as fuel.
  • Auditioned for the role of Emmeline Lestrange for Le lagon bleu (1980), that ultimately went to Brooke Shields.
  • In September 2013, Forbes magazine reported that she had been diagnosed in childhood as having autism. When she was a child, medical professionals recommended that she be institutionalized and medicated.
  • Married her boyfriend of 4 years Neil Young on his yacht in Washington State. The news was not made public until late August. (July 27, 2018)
  • Made McCall's "10 Best Female Bodies In America" list in 1984.
  • Produces a "green" vlog called "dhlovelife.com" which focuses on healthy living, renewable energy, and sustainable farming. This website is defunct, and is "for sale", as of April 28, 2019.
  • Is portrayed by Tara Chocol in America's Prince: The John F. Kennedy Jr. Story (2003).
  • Signed environmental activist Tom Weis' open letter calling on President Obama and Governor Romney to withdraw their support for the Keystone XL pipeline. Other signatories included climate scientist James Hansen and actors Sheryl Lee and Mariel Hemingway. (September 2012)
  • She turned down the role of Vivian Ward in Pretty Woman (1990) because she felt it was denigrating to women. However, she went on to appear in Dancing at the Blue Iguana (2000) as a stripper.
  • Listed as one of twelve "Promising New Actors of 1984" in John Willis' Screen World, Vol. 36.
  • (2010-2011) Supported environmental activist Tom Weis' "Ride for Renewables" to promote renewable energy.
