Biography

    • Jennifer Grey is an American actress who starred in the film Dirty Dancing (1987) opposite Patrick Swayze, a sleeper hit that would become one of the biggest films of the 1980s. She had previously appeared with Patrick Swayze in John Milius's cold war drama L'Aube rouge (1984) as 'Toni,' one of the 'Wolverines,' a group of renegade teenagers fighting for their country during World War III.

She then starred in Francis Ford Coppola's Cotton Club (1984) and the John Badham project Le prix de l'exploit (1985). By this time she had been linked in with the 'so-called' Brat Pack and unsurprisingly won a starring role in John Hughes's hit comedy La Folle Journée de Ferris Bueller (1986) playing the older sister of Matthew Broderick and love interest of Charlie Sheen.

As the 1980s drew to a close, Jennifer headlined Howard Brookner's romantic drama Il était une fois Broadway (1989), which again teamed her with Alan Ruck, and also Matt Dillon and Madonna. Since then she has worked steadily, starring in over 34 Film and TV appearances including Le soulier magique (1991), Wind (1992), and Un amour infini (2000).

Jennifer will nevertheless be best remembered as 'Baby' in Dirty Dancing (1987), a role that earned her a Golden Globe Award nomination for Best Actress.

Trivia

  • In a recent interview for Channel 5 (UK), she said that having plastic surgery to her nose was the worst mistake she had ever made. This was because she was no longer recognizable as the girl from the film Dirty Dancing (1987), just somebody who looked a bit like her.
  • Was previously engaged to Matthew Broderick and Johnny Depp, each during the same month.
  • Began her career as a dancer in a Dr. Pepper TV commercial.
  • 2010 Winner of Dancing with the Stars (2005).
  • Was with Matthew Broderick in a car crash in 1987. She suffered whip-lash, which caused damage to her vertebrate. Has suffered constant pain since then but has recently found some relief with the aid of doctors and exercise.

Quotes

  • On the death of Patrick Swayze, she stated, "When I think of him, I think of being in his arms when we were kids, dancing, practicing the lift in the freezing lake, having a blast doing this tiny little movie we thought no one would ever see. He was a real cowboy with a tender heart. Which is why it was not surprising to me that the war he waged on his cancer was so courageous and dignified. Patrick was a rare and beautiful combination of raw masculinity and amazing grace. My heart goes out to his wife and childhood sweetheart, Lisa Niemi, to his mom, Patsy Swayze, and to the whole family.
