Joel McHale Welcomes You to 'The 1% Club' in New Season 2 Poster [Exclusive]
Image
Fox is less than two months away from holding the next meeting of The 1% Club, and it'll have a new host leading the proceedings. When the hit game show was picked up for a second season earlier this year, Community star Joel McHale was handed the reins in place of Patton Oswalt. He brings with him a wealth of experience in the reality television space, as well as a familiarity with Fox audiences thanks to his comedy series Animal Control, which makes him the perfect candidate to test the nation's intelligence. Ahead of the premiere this June, Collider can share the exclusive poster showing McHale embracing his new gig with a card that asks, "Who will answer correctly?"

Based on the U.K. game show of the same name, The 1% Club puts a fun twist on the typical trivia format by relying on contestants to rely on logic instead of memory.

Game Show ‘1% Club’ Renewed at Fox, Joel McHale Takes Over as Host
Image
The game show The 1% Club is getting a second season — and a bit of an overhaul.

For starters, the show will be exclusive to Fox for season two, after season one ran on both the broadcast network and Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform. The show will also have a new host, with Joel McHale taking over from Patton Oswalt.

The 1% Club will be McHale’s third Fox show — he also stars in the network’s comedy Animal Control and hosts the oddball cooking competition Crime Scene Kitchen.

“Joel’s outstanding comedic timing and hosting charm already make him a standout talent here at Fox, and now — building on The 1% Club’s strong first year on the network — we’re bringing his unrivaled energy, irreverence and charisma to season two,” said Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn in a statement. “We look forward to expanding on our...

Fox Boards Amazon’s ‘1% Club’ Game Show for Second Window Airing
Image
Amazon is getting into the game show business — and bringing in Fox as a partner.

The tech giant’s Prime Video streaming platform has named Patton Oswalt as host of The 1% Club, an adaptation of a hit British quiz show. In a novel arrangement, Fox will air the show in a second window, eight days after episodes debut on Prime Video. It marks a rare occasion when a broadcast network has taken the second run of a streaming series that’s not part of its own corporate family (e.g., Disney+ and ABC).

The 1% Club comes from BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Magnum Media, which produces the original version of the show for ITV in the U.K. (Dean Nabarro and Andy Auerbach created the format). The show will “test the nation’s intelligence, based on a scientific survey,” according to its logline. “It’s a chance...

Patton Oswalt To Host Amazon Game Show ‘The 1% Club’ As Fox Takes Second Window In New Model
Image
Exclusive: Amazon Prime Video’s remake of British game show The 1% Club has found its host as well as a broadcast partner.

Patton Oswalt has been tapped to host the format, which tests the nation’s intelligence, based on a scientific survey, and Fox has taken the second window in an interesting and unusual partnership between the two companies. Deadline previously revealed Amazon was adapting the format last year.

It marks the game show hosting debut for The Goldbergs and A.P. Bio actor Oswalt, who has previously appeared as a contestant on a number of quizzers including To Tell The Truth and Celebrity Wheel of Fortune.

Oswalt has been circling the format for a while; Deadline understands that he was lined up as the host last year but the actors strike pushed this back.

The series, which is produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Magnum Media, will premiere on Prime Video,...

The series was created by Dean Nabarro and Andy Auerbach at Magnum Media and distributed by BBC Studios.

It has previously been remade in the Netherlands, Australia, Germany, France, Israel, Spain and Turkey.
