If you were sad to see The Hunting Party‘s super-cool, super-secret, subterranean prison get blown up in the NBC drama’s first minutes, know that series lead Melissa Roxburgh shares your pain.

The doctors are in on Max! The streaming service's new procedural medical drama series The Pitt made its premiere on Thursday, Jan. 9 with its first two episodes.
In the new series, Emmy Award-nominated ER star Noah Wyle plays Dr. Michael "Robby" Rabinavitch, the lead of the emergency room at the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital. He leads his seemingly overworked and understaffed team throughout one 15-hour shift in The Pitt's 15-episode first season. Similarly to 24, each episode takes place in a single hour.
Here's how Max describes the series in the official synopsis:
"The Pitt is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh."
Based on the synopsis, you can tell The Pitt isn't your average medical drama series. It's a bit different to the most popular of the genre on the small screen,...

The allegorical simplicity of Netflix’s The Platform makes it brilliant—a sequel seems antithetical. Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s The Platform 2 needlessly complicates the original’s food-fighting take on hierarchical class governance. Religious iconography influences heavy-handed zealotry, while callbacks and returning characters feel out of place. Gaztelu-Urrutia’s expansion feels redundant and over-explained,...

Released on Netflix in March of 2020 (unbelievably perfect timing for a movie about people confined to an inescapable prison whose design pits insatiable self-interest against the public good), Spanish filmmaker Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia’s “The Platform” is an anti-capitalism allegory whose obviousness is its greatest strength. Like so many streaming hits, the genre exercise resonated because its high-concept premise told a compelling story unto itself.
The film’s most and only memorable character is “The Pit” where it takes place, a narrow concrete tower (or “Vertical Self-Management Center”) with a large square hole in the middle of each floor — a hole just large enough to fit the massive smorgasbord of food that’s lowered down the building’s 333 stories each day. The two inmates on the top floor are treated to a royal banquet, but only a few errant scraps remain when the movable feast reaches the 50th level below them...

The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: Visions Season 2, Episode 8, "The Pit," now streaming on Disney+.
The second season of Star Wars: Visions features vivid worlds that fit nicely into the galaxy far, far away. The civil rights allegory "The Pit" by LeAndre Thomas and Justin Ridge shows the Empire at its coldest and most corrupt. Yet, Star Wars is a story of hope, and that's why Livy's kyber crystal turned blue at the end of the short.
"The Pit" is one of two stories in Season 2 about the kyber crystals that powered both Jedi lightsabers and the Death Star. A group of Imperial prisoners are sent to mine the valuable resource in a classic, Star Wars desert wasteland. That this kyber goes to the nearby city they build, and not a Death Star project, suggests the Stormtroopers are part of the Imperial Remnant that rose after Return of the Jedi.

Bane has appeared in two different Batman movies, each one giving him a different backstory from the one in the comics, and a theory gives an explanation for these changes. Batman has been adapted to the big screen various times, along with some of his most famous adversaries from the comics, and some of these have followed the Caped Crusader on more than one version. Such is the case of Bane, the only villain credited as having “broken the bat” after defeating Batman physically and mentally.
Bane’s big screen debut was in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin, in 1997, where he was played by Michael Reid MacKay before the character’s transformation into a villain and by WCW wrestler Robert “Jeep” Swenson once he transformed into Bane. Over a decade later, Bane was once more brought to the big screen in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, now played by Tom Hardy,...

Returning to Sundance, where her debut feature Circumstance premiered in 2011, Iranian-American writer-director Maryam Keshavarz enters the festival’s U.S. Dramatic Competition with a crowd-pleasing quasi-autobiographical comedy-drama, The Persian Version.
A multi-generational family tale that spans roughly 60 years, two continents and assorted cultures from traditional Muslim families to queer New Yorkers, this lively, likable, if somewhat on-the-nose work grabs viewer attention with fourth-wall-breaking monologues, jocular explanatory graphics, and tightly choreographed dance numbers to vintage American and Iranian pop songs. The expansive ensemble is led by Layla Mohammadi playing the director’s alter ego Leila and Niousha Noor as her immigrant mother Shirin, who, in the manner of classic melodrama, clash but learn to respect one another by the end after secrets are revealed in extended flashbacks.

With her tart direct address, Leila makes a cheeky protagonist in “The Persian Version,” a Sundance-blessed dramatic comedy about the wide rift between an immigrant mother and her Iranian American daughter. Layla Mohammadi and Niousha Noor portray Leila and her mother, Shirin. They also carry the weight of writer-director Maryam Kesharvarz’s third feature, which braids comedy and tragedy, vibrant aplomb and thoughtful soberness.
In 2011, Kesharvarz made her directorial debut at the Sundance Film Festival with “Circumstance,” winner of that year’s audience award for dramatic feature. Set in Tehran, that LGBTQ-hued film focused on a well-to-do Iranian family dealing with their sexually rebellious daughter (and Daddy’s girl) and a son who recovers from drug addiction by replacing it with a fresh mania for fundamentalist ideology. “The Persian Version” moves between the present and the past and shuttles from New York to New Jersey to a rural outpost in Iran,...

“If you’re in the comedy world, you go to festivals,” says Ali Farahnakian, founder and owner of the Peoples Improv Theater in New York. “And you know what it’s like to be at a bar in a festival town where it’s all comedians. You’re in a room surrounded by comedians and improvisers, with that feeling like, ‘Wow, it’s just us! It’s all us!’ ” Farahnakian hopes to recreate that environment every night at Comedy Bar NYC, his new venue on West 29th Street in Manhattan that is scheduled to open in late November. As he talks, he tours the interior of the still-under-construction space, where a long, wide, 50-foot-bar dominates the front. The rear seating area boasts an elevated stage and projection screens, and windows and skylights along the back wall have been restored and opened. Above the restrooms, a red “On Air” sign illuminates.

Remember the famous late Mohd Rafi’s evergreen song, ‘Kya Hua Tera Wada’ or ‘Tum Kya Jano Mohabbat’, where one handsome boy sings these songs. He is Tariq, cousin brother of actors Aamir Khan and Faisal Khan. He was during those considered the hottest guy every girl would dream of marrying. He gave three biggest musicals hits of all time in Yaadon Ki Baraat, Zakhmee and Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin. Last week we caught him at the grand launch of Ali Reza’s Sheesha Sky Lounge, Andheri. He was seen with his wife in good mood but no one recognized.
