Canary Black Ending, Explained
Image
Prime Video's Canary Black stars Kate Beckinsale as Avery Graves, a CIA agent who must use all her skill to rescue her husband from the clutches of a terrorist organization before they unleash the Canary Black virus on the world. The movie, directed by Pierre Morel, who also directed the Liam Neeson vehicle Taken, is an action thriller that has a fairly predictable plot. Still, with Beckinsale's committed performance and Ray Stevenson in one of his last roles as Avery's mentor and CIA Director Jarvis Hedlund, it's still worth catching.

But what exactly happens to Avery's husband? And did the Canary Black virus get sent out around the world? Let's take a look!

What Happens in Canary Black?

James Franco on New Movie ‘Hey Joe,’ Being ‘Grateful’ for His Fall From Grace and the End of Seth Rogen Friendship: ‘I Guess It’s Over’
Image
James Franco is tucked away in the corner of a five-star hotel lobby on Rome’s Via Veneto, sipping an Americano coffee. Wearing a chocolate brown hoodie he proudly says he co-designed, the actor and filmmaker looks relaxed and flashes his signature smile.

He’s in the Eternal City for the Rome Film Festival launch of Italian director Claudio Giovannesi’s “Hey Joe.” In the gritty drama, Franco plays Dean, an alcoholic American WWII vet who winds up back in Naples in the early ’70s in search of a son he fathered there before absconding to New Jersey.

The film is his first to surface on the fest circuit since his career went on hiatus following a now-settled 2019 lawsuit alleging that he sexually exploited young women who took his acting class. As he sips his coffee, Franco and I agree that his character is looking for redemption. Could the same be said of Franco?...

Canary Black Ending Explained
Image
Warning! This post contains spoilers for Canary Black.

Before Canary Black sets up a sequel in its ending moments, it portrays how its main character, Avery Graves, gets to the bottom of a conspiracy and saves the world from an imminent threat. In its opening moments, Canary Black introduces personal stakes for Avery Graves (played by action staple Kate Beckinsale) by showing how she must comply with a terrorist group's demands to save her abducted husband. However, the more she learns about what the group is asking her to do, the more she realizes that the world's future rests in her hands.

As Avery struggles to find the truth behind her husband's abduction with her senior Jarvis Hedlund's help, she is forced to put everything on the line, including her job. After setting up several red herrings and plot twists, the Prime Video action movie finally reveals what "Canary Black...

Canary Black Cast & Character Guide
Image
Apart from walking through several action set pieces and a thrilling drama, Canary Black also features memorable character beats driven by the compelling performances of its cast members. Directed by Pierre Morel, Canary Black is another addition to Amazon Prime Video's roster of action movies. Although its title might suggest it has something to do with DC Comics' Black Canary, the film follows an original story that focuses on a CIA agent on the run.

Canary Black's filming primarily took place in Zagreb, Croatia, and even the scenes that portray Tokyo in the movie's storyline were shot in the Croatian city of Rovinj. When it comes to the movie's cast, it features both familiar and new faces as its leads. Since many viewers may be curious about who plays whom in Canary Black's story after watching it on Prime Video, it is worth breaking down the key characters and the talented actors behind them.

How To Watch The 2024 Iowa Republican Caucuses
Image
Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.

As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.

That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

Director Anna Zlokovic On How Appendage Addresses The Universality Of Mental Health Struggles
Image
The horror movie Appendage takes everyday worries and turns them into a tangible entity that feeds off the protagonist's self-doubt. Director and writer Anna Zlokovic used practical effects to create the appendage, working closely with a special effects creature department. The heart of the horror in this story lies in its portrayal of universal mental health struggles, such as anxiety and depression, which many people can relate to.

Hulu's new movie Appendage uniquely approaches the horror genre by turning everyday worries into a tangible entity that thrives off its protagonist's self-doubt. Hannah is a resilient young fashion designer who aspires to be successful in her field and achieve the approval of her supervisor. However, the pressure to be perfect, combined with her deep-rooted insecurities, causes a vindictive appendage to grow from her body and give life to her greatest fears.

Originally a Bite Size Halloween short, Anna Zlokovic is...

‘Swarm’

New on the sked is Janine Nabers and Donald Glover’s Amazon Studios series Swarm and Lee Sung Jin’s Beef, respectively the opening- and closing-night TV premieres. They join the previously announced opening-night world premiere of Paramount’s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

This year’s closing-night film will be announced closer to the event. In addition, there is another movie to be announced for the fest’s Monday, March 13 slot. Given the Oscars on March 12 (note the festival sets their dates five years in advance), I understand that evening’s lineup will ease a bit with amped-up...

Everything You Need To Know About The Uva Scandal In < 700 Words
University of Virginia, the university founded by Thomas Jefferson, capped a two-week long scandal on Tuesday when its board members voted unanimously to reinstate President Teresa Sullivan, whom they themselves had ousted two weeks prior.

Background, via Jamelle Bouie, a Uva grad:

Helen Dragas, rector of the University’s Board of Visitors—what most states call a Board of Regents—explained the situation with a brief statement, "The Board believes that in the rapidly changing and highly pressurized external environment in both health care and in academia, the University needs to remain at the forefront of change." Of course, this explained nothing about the decision to remove Sullivan, who by all accounts was succeeding as president of the university. Questions about her dismissal turned to outrage when it was revealed that Dragas had pushed this under the cover of darkness, with little deliberation, false pretenses, and the exclusion of other board members.
