On Kate’s right sat another tennis champion, Martina Navratilova. Amanda Anisimova was in tears as she received a brutal beating courtesy of Iga Swiatek as Swiatek won the final.

The score was 6-0, 6-0, with the higher score being achieved by Swiatek. Kate is the chosen patron of the All-England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

The Princess presented the runner-up trophy to Anisimova, who struggled to hold back her tears. The tennis player had to leave the court following the game.

National Geographic Documentary Films has released the trailer and poster for Sally, a film that honors the life of Sally Ride, the first American woman to travel to space. The tennis legend, who is now 81, was just honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame during an unveiling ceremony on Monday (April 7) in Los Angeles.

Billie is the first woman to be honored in the Sports Entertainment category, which was created in 2023.

Hollywood casting has a way of weaving together unexpected connections. But here’s a fun one—every actress who’s played Spider-Man’s love interest has ended up on a tennis court, at least on screen. With antisemitism surging, Israeli influencer and author Hen Mazzig is launching a new online series “And They’re Jewish,” headlined by celebrities including Emmanuelle Chriqui, Debra Messing and Mayim Bialik.

Filmmaker Cristina Costantini is leaving the Sundance Film Festival with an award and with distribution already secured for her documentary Sally, about the late astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman in space.

Costantini won the 2025 Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize, an award selected by a jury of film and science professionals and “presented to an outstanding feature film focusing on science or technology as a theme, or depicting a scientist, engineer, or mathematician as a major character.”

Sally Ride, who earned a Ph.D. in physics at Stanford before joining NASA’s space shuttle program in the late 1970s, more than qualifies according to the Sloan Prize criteria. But the documentary constitutes much more than a recitation of Ride’s credentials. It’s also the story of her long relationship with romantic partner Tam O’Shaughnessy, a loving bond Ride kept secret until her death.

During one of the countless, often boneheaded interviews Sally Ride endured about her pioneering role in the United States space program, she schools a reporter on how to address her. “It’s Dr. Ride or Sally, but not Miss,” she says, flashing a smile that softened the lecture and much of director Cristina Costantini’s absorbing documentary the first American woman to go into space.

Ridley Scott’s production company Rsa is set to revisit the Battle of Mogadishu in a new Netflix documentary, “Surviving Black Hawk Down.”

The documentary, directed by Jack MacInnes (“Leaving Afghanistan”), will explore the real events of the 1993 battle between U.S. and Somalian forces, which inspired Scott’s 2001 film.

For the 98th year, NBC will again broadcast the Rose Parade live from Pasadena, CA. The 136th Rose Parade, presented by Honda, will air live Wednesday, Jan. 1 from 8-10 a.m. Pt (11 a.m.-1 p.m. Et), and will be simulcast on Peacock.

Billie Jean King is set to become the first-ever female athlete to receive the Congressional Gold Medal after the House passed a bill to honor the tennis legend and advocate.

Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.) and Mikie Sherrill (D-n.J.) said Tuesday that their bipartisan legislation to award King had cleared the House of Representatives after previously passing through the Senate. The bill now just awaits President Joe Biden’s signature, the Associated Press reports.

ESPN Films has greenlit a “30 for 30” documentary about Billie Jean King, which is now in production with Ridley Scott Associates and Story Syndicate, in association with Elton John’s Rocket Sports.

The docu is being touted as “the unfiltered, untold story of how King broke the rules and proved her critics wrong.” The film is told in King’s own voice and centers around one year that brings her life and career into focus: 1973.

Directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Liz Garbus and Elizabeth Wolff (“I’ll Be Gone in the Dark”) the doc promises to shed new light on King’s life and her transformative impact on sports and society.

“The legacy of Billie Jean King is like none other,” says Garbus. “She is a generational athletic talent, a pioneer in women’s sports, and a leader in the fight for equal pay and against discrimination in sports and society.

The late, great Carl Weathers will be posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next week, it has been revealed. The official Walk of Fame account took to social media to share the news, with the Rocky and Predator actor receiving one of the coveted stars for In the category of Sports Entertainment alongside tennis icon Billie Jean King.

The Angel City Football club said today it’s entered into a definitive agreement with Willow Bay, Dean of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, and Bob Iger, CEO of Disney that will make the couple the new controlling owners of the team.

Deadline broke the news earlier this month that a deal was in the works. Bay and Iger will acquire the controlling stake in Acfc at an Enterprise Value of $250 million, making it the most valuable women’s sports team in the world. Bay will serve on and have full control of the Acfc Board of Directors, will serve as the Controlling Owner for National Women’s Soccer League, LLC (Nwsl) purposes and will represent Acfc on the Nwsl’s Board of Governors.

Bay and Iger will invest an additional $50 million to support the Club’s future growth.

Disney CEO Bob Iger and his wife, Willow Bay, are in talks to buy a majority stake in Angel City Fc, the professional women’s soccer club based in Los Angeles, a source confirms to The Hollywood Reporter.

Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, has previously been the largest shareholder of the team. If the investment from Bay and Iger finalizes, the team will have a valuation of more than $300 million, per Semafor, making it the highest valued women’s soccer club.

Bay, who is the dean of the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, is said to be taking the lead on the investment.

Our most recent two-time Best Actress champion is back in theaters with Yorgos Lanthimos' Kinds of Kindness, a black-hearted tryptic that allows Emma Stone to experiment with three distinctly realized characters. To mark the occasion and the success of another tennis-related movie – Guadagnino's Challengers – let's think back to one of the few times this Academy favorite was in the race but didn't land a nomination. In 2017, right after her first Oscar win, Stone played Billie Jean King in Battle of the Sexes. Directed by Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, the biopic was made in parallel with a Presidential election that saw a very different outcome than its titular match. Looking back, Battle of the Sexes reached for the zeitgeist yet failed to predict where the world was headed.

Kinds of Kindness features a star-studded cast playing multiple roles in a triptych fable anthology film directed by Yorgos Lanthimos. In Kinds of Kindness, her latest collaboration with Poor Things director Yorgos Lanthimos, Emma Stone leads a star-studded ensemble cast including such revered actors as Willem Dafoe, Jesse Plemons, and Hunter Schafer. Kinds of Kindness is an anthology movie comprised of three short films. But unlike most anthology movies, the actors in Kinds of Kindness all play different roles in each of the films segments. What fun tennis must have been in the 1970s, as it was on the turn from a knockabout sport into the sharp-footed profession it is today. Năstase and his contemporaries brought finesse and genius to the game, but tennis hadn’t yet been fully corrupted by corporate greed and mechanical elite athleticism. These players were hardworking and hard-partying in equal measure, and Năstase was a key ringleader for the frivolity, dating models, and canoodling on the mattresses at Studio 54.

He was also the sport’s chief antagonist a generation before John McEnroe took the mantle. Arguing with his fellow players and with the umpires. But he never questioned them when their calls were right, he insists, in one of the rare modern interview clips with Năstase himself.
