George Zuckerman was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 10, 1916. His career as a screenwriter in Hollywood began in the mid-1940s. Zuckerman's most famous movies, "Written on the Wind" and "The Tarnished Angels" were both directed by Douglas Sirk. "Written on the Wind" is considered Sirk's finest melodrama, and "Tarnished Angels" was William Faulkner's favorite adaptation of any of his novels. "Pylon" was the title of Faulkner's novel that George Zuckerman adapted for the screen.

George Zuckerman went on to publish three novels, including "The Last Flapper" based on Zelda Fitzgerald, who was a close personal friend of Zuckerman's during the World War II, while he was stationed in Montgomery, Alabama.

George Zuckerman was married for 50 years to Blanche Kleid Zuckerman. They met in New York and were married at Santa Monica City Hall. They lived in Brentwood and then Santa Monica, California throughout their marriage. Blanche Zuckerman died in June 2001. George and Blanche are survived by their two children: Gregg Jay Zuckerman, Yale professor and famous mathematician, and Laurie Beth Zuckerman, a renowned visual artist. Gregg had one son, David Louis Zuckerman, who has followed his grandfather's footsteps to Hollywood as a screenwriter and director of films.
