'Deadpool & Wolverine' Almost Did the Unthinkable With Wade Wilson
Image
Deadpool and Wolverine became a massive box office hit in 2024 and a great homage to 20th Century Fox's Marvel Characters. However, the events of this anti-hero blockbuster almost played out differently, as Ryan Reynolds reveals that Deadpool's ending was initially different from what was presented on screen. According to the actor, the character should have died in his third movie.

In an interview with The Box Office Podcast, Reynolds was asked if the thought of killing Deadpool ever entered his mind, to which he confirmed that it did. The actor revealed that even if he had thought of killing the character in the third film, they also remembered that Deadpool can't die, so he had to be "deatomized." Fortunately, that wasn't the film's direction, as Reynolds still enjoyed playing the character, and Marvel Studios still wanted to keep him around

"There’s always the thought of killing Deadpool in the last one.

Deadpool and Wolverine could have seen the end of Wade Wilson, Ryan Reynolds reveals
Ryan Reynolds has revealed ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ could have ended with the death of Wade Wilson. The 48-year-old actor starred opposite Hugh Jackman, 56, in the 2024 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) blockbuster as the Merc with a Mouth, and has now revealed he and the studio seriously considered killing off the character for good in the movie.During an appearance on ‘The Box Office’ podcast, Reynolds said: “There’s always the thought of killing Deadpool in the last one.“Again, it’s like listening to the movie. Me, [editors] Shane Reid, Dean Zimmerman, and [director] Shawn Levy must have reworked that third act for 45 days straight.”However, once the fight scene choreographed to Madonna’s ‘Like a Prayer’ entered the scene, the conversation around Deadpool’s end was dropped.Reynolds said: “Finally figuring it out - I am such a needle-drop person, but I’m really working hard to embrace score. Marvel star almost had his own character killed off in beloved MCU movie
Image
For the longest time, the death of really big heroes wasn't a thing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Granted, fans witnessed how characters like Vision, Groot, and Phil Coulson bit the dust in a specific project, but they all eventually returned one way or another. Quicksilver was one of the unlucky few who really stayed out of the picture for many years without any plans for a potential revival. However, all of that changed the day Avengers: Endgame premiered.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes' latest adventure acted as the perfect farewell for fan-favorites such as Iron Man, Black Widow, and Steve Rogers' Captain America. Since that day, audiences learned that no one is truly safe in the MCU anymore, which will especially hold true the closer we get to the end of the Multiverse Saga. Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars will undoubtedly mark the final appearances of many big characters,...

Ryan Reynolds Confirms the Massive Marvel Death They Considered for Deadpool & Wolverine
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine features the well-received debut of Ryan Reynolds' Wade Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, bringing his unconventional, button-pushing approach to the Multiverse Saga. However, Reynolds claims the Merc With a Mouth nearly got shut up for good in the superhero blockbuster.

Speaking on The Box Office podcast (via GamesRadar+), Reynolds reveals Marvel had seriously considered killing off Wade Wilson in Deadpool & Wolverine during development. “There’s always the thought of killing Deadpool in the last one,” Reynolds said. “Again, it’s like listening to the movie. Me, [editors] Shane Reid, Dean Zimmerman, and [director] Shawn Levy must have reworked that third act for 45 days straight."

However, featuring the classic single, "Like a Prayer," from pop icon Madonna changed the film's tone, leading to the idea getting dropped. "Finally figuring it out — I am such a needle-drop person, but I’m really working hard to embrace score. It was...

Ryan Reynolds Reveals That 'Deadpool & Wolverine's Original Ending Would Have Killed a Major X-Men Character
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine helped to usher in a new age of Mutants in the MCU, while saying goodbye to Fox's X-Men timeline. At the end of the movie, Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) and Logan's (Hugh Jackman) MCU futures were left open, with fans now desperate to know if they will return to the big screen in the future. But, Ryan Reynolds recently revealed that the original ending for Deadpool & Wolverine would have been much different, and Marvel fans would have been very upset.

Ryan Reynolds recently appeared on The Box Office Podcast to promote the fourth season of Welcome to Wrexham and discussed the 2024 smash-hit, Deadpool & Wolverine. During the conversation, Reynolds addressed Deadpool & Wolverine's emotional ending, which saw Logan try to sacrifice himself, only to survive and walk off into the sunset. But, it turns out that the other immortal X-Men character was originally the one who would have died in the movie.

"There Was Always The Thought Of Killing Deadpool:" Ryan Reynolds Reveals He Almost Killed Off Wade Wilson In Deadpool & Wolverine
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds recently explained that Wade Wilson/Deadpool was not originally supposed to live through the film's events. In addition to Reynolds, the movie also featured veteran Marvel star Hugh Jackman as Logan/James Howlett/Wolverine. Though it is set in the multiverse of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool & Wolverine is less Deadpool's MCU debut than it is a farewell to the Fox X-Men films both title characters originated from. As the third Deadpool movie, it also serves to conclude the Merc With a Mouth's arc.

In an appearance on The Box Office Podcast, Reynolds explained how Wade's story almost ended differently and why it didn't:

There’s always the thought of killing Deadpool in the last one. Again, it’s like listening to the movie. Me, [editors] Shane Reid, Dean Zimmerman, and [director] Shawn Levy must have reworked that third act for 45 days straight.

Ryan Reynolds Wanted To Kill Wade Wilson In Deadpool & Wolverine - Has The Merc Been Spotted On Avengers Set?
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine brought the Merc with the Mouth into the MCU, but spent a lot of time focusing on Earth-10005, a.k.a. the X-Men Universe.

The movie concluded with Wade Wilson and Logan becoming (reluctant) BFFs, and the expectation now is that we'll see them both in Avengers: Doomsday next December. However, had Ryan Reynolds had his way, we'd have bid a permanent farewell to the anti-hero in the threequel.

Talking to Scott Mendelson on The Box Office podcast, the actor and writer admitted that he considered bringing an end to Deadpool's misadventures in the MCU just as they were getting started.

"There’s always the thought of killing Deadpool in the last one," Reynolds admitted. "Again, it’s like listening to the movie. Me, Shane Reid, Dean Zimmerman, and Shawn Levy must have reworked that third act for 45 days straight. Finally figuring it out — I am such a needle-drop person,...

Ryan Reynolds Considered Killing Deadpool in ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ but Marvel Disagreed
Image
As fans look forward to Ryan Reynolds’s appearance in a future instalment of the MCU, he reveals that Deadpool could’ve died in the previous film. Reynolds shared that he initially wanted to kill off the death-defying Merc With a Mouth in Deadpool & Wolverine. However, Marvel Studios was totally against that plan, and Reynolds had to scrap it.

Since the character had super healing powers, Reynolds and the Deadpool 3 team had to come up with a really creative way to kill off the character. He revealed that the plan was to deatomize the anti-hero in the film, which would’ve been a brutal way to go even for Deadpool.

I Cant Believe Deadpool & Wolverines Wolverine Variant Montage Scene Almost Didnt Happen
Image
Variants play a core role in Deadpool & Wolverine but I'm shocked to learn that the best MCU montage scene nearly didn't happen. For the vast majority of the movie, Hugh Jackman portrays "Worst Wolverine." This is a variant from a universe in which the X-Men were eradicated by a mob of humans, causing him to kill the perpetrators before, it's implied, he went too far and murdered innocents. This leads to Wolverine becoming an alcoholic with a particularly belligerent personality, unlike his slightly more amenable variant in Deadpool's Earth-10005.

Worst Wolverine isn't the only variant to appear in Deadpool & Wolverine, however. After Deadpool gets his hands on Paradox's tempad, he proceeds to traverse universes in a hunt for a Wolverine variant to replace his universe's anchor being, Logan. This sparks a montage to the tune of Huey Lewis and the News' "The Power of Love" featuring several...

Marvel News Roundup: The Fantastic Four Filming Update, Kraven The Hunter's Runtime, Agatha All Along, & More

While we have high hopes for Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts*, all signs currently point to The Fantastic Four: First Steps stealing the show in 2025.

Appearing at the Gladiator II world premiere in London yesterday evening, Joseph Quinn was asked where things stand with the long-awaited reboot. "We're having a great time," the actor says in the video below. "We've got about two more weeks to film and then we're done."

It's pretty amazing that, this deep into production, all we've seen is a shot of The Thing, the Human Torch from afar, and a handful of sets.

Millie Bobby Brown's star continues to rise with her upcoming Netflix movie, The Electric State. According to Joe Russo, who directed the film with his brother Anthony, her performance is nothing short of brilliant.

"Millie's carrying a very, very big movie on her shoulders," Russo told GamesRadar+. "She's one of the most watchable and charismatic actors of her generation, and so she made our lives very easy. She makes the story a hell of a lot of fun to watch, and she breaks your heart at several points in the film. We adore her. We love working with her. We just got back from her wedding two weeks ago, so we're all very close. In fact, we knew her for years before we cast her in the movie."

Deadpool & Wolverine Editor Reveals Backstory Behind The Film's Post-Credits Scene

While Deadpool & Wolverine featured a lot of cameos, the biggest was probably Chris Evans reprising his Fantastic Four role as Johnny Storm/Human Torch. The actor also appeared in the film's post-credits scene which, according to editor Dean Zimmerman, was sort of a last minute addition.

"I specifically remember when it happened," Zimmerman told CinemaBlend. "We were shooting on that New York Street. Chris came to the set -- just to come say hi. "We had met for the first time, and were sitting in the barber's shop on the New York Street, and Ryan [Reynolds] literally was like, 'Hey Chris, I have this idea for this coda at the end. Following the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, the internet was flooded with concept art and costumes showcasing the unused variants in the film. Deadpool & Wolverine Seemingly Not Bringing Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman to Disney+ in November
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine fans had hoped that November would be the month that the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman blockbuster would be coming to streaming on Disney+. While this seems a little overly hopeful considering the Marvel juggernaut only landed on VOD services at the beginning of October, and has only become available on physical media on October 22, Disneys recent reveal of which titles are coming to the streaming platform in the next month proved to be a disappointment to that select group.

Deadpool & Wolverine has been the shot in the arm that the Marvel Cinematic Universe really needed after a lacklustre couple of years, which culminated with the humiliation of The Marvels almost a year ago. The film became the second highest grossing movie of the year with a record-breaking $1.3 billion box office, and delivered some of the most impressive reviews of any Marvel project for quite some time.

Exclusive Designs from ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’: Featuring Ultimate Wolverine, Hulk-Inspired Wolverine, and More!
Image
The Deadpool & Wolverine movie has been a big success, highlighting the amazing performances of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

Recently, insights from the upcoming book The Art of the Movie have shared many intriguing details about the film’s creative process.

The book includes several Wolverine designs that were considered but not used in the final film.

Some of the most interesting ones are a Hulk-like Wolverine, a version inspired by Logan from the 2000 X-Men movie, and Wolverine in his Ultimate comic suit. Other featured designs show Patch alongside Joe Fixit Hulk.

Dean Zimmerman, the film’s editor, explained how they decided which variants to include in the movie.

Due to time and budget limits, they had to make economical choices. For example, Zimmerman noted that a single costume, like the brown and tan Wolverine suit, could cost around $100,000 to create.

He also talked about practical decisions made during filming,...

Deadpool & Wolverine Concept Art Reveals Ultimate Wolverine, Hulkverine, Department H, And More Variants
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine's "The Art of the Movie" book goes on sale in a few days and a new video offers a glimpse at what's inside. That includes a long list of Variants left on the cutting room floor along with comic-accurate costumes for the Human Torch and Elektra.

For now, though, we're focusing on Wolverine. The montage featuring his many Variants remains a highlight in the Marvel Studios threequel but it's now clear that many of them didn't make the final cut.

As you'll see, a long list of alternatives was considered, including a Hulkverine and the Logan we first met in 2000's X-Men. There's also a version of the character in his Ultimate suit from the comics and a Patch who is shown standing alongside the Joe Fixit Hulk.

There was only ever going to be a certain amount of room in the threequel but we'd say Marvel...

How ‘Deadpool and Wolverine’ sound designers found the ‘rhythmical, lyrical’ pace of comedy
Image
“It just took a lot of time to sort of refine and make it rhythmical, lyrical,” explains Craig Henighan of the challenge facing the sound department of “Deadpool and Wolverine.” Amid the dynamic action sequences was the ever-present banter of the fourth-wall-breaking “Merc With a Mouth” (Ryan Reynolds) and his erstwhile mutant ally (Hugh Jackman). Henighan and his co-supervising sound editor Ryan Cole spoke with Gold Derby about honing in on the comedic sensibility within their sonic landscape. Watch the video interview above.

The film’s outrageous opening fight sequence, where Deadpool cracks jokes while using Logan’s adamantium skeleton as a deadly weapon, perfectly encapsulates the challenge that faced the sound designers. “You don’t want to feel the dip in energy so that you hear a quip,” says Cole, “you want to hear the quip with the energy building the entire time.” He embarked on delicate work to...

Wolverine's Best Suit in Deadpool & Wolverine Cost $100k to Make
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine featured Hugh Jackman sporting several comic-accurate outfits, but the film did not include any more Wolverine variants because of budget restraints. Although the different Wolverines only show up during a brief montage early on in the movie, the cost of including them outweighed their interest in adding more suits for Jackman to wear. This is especially true when Deadpool attempts to recruit a Wolverine wearing the fan-favorite brown and tan suit ripped straight from the source material.

During an interview with ComicBookMovie.com, Deadpool & Wolverine editor Dean Zimmerman revealed that there were around 10 total Wolverine variants in the works at one point. Previously released concept art included a Weapon X version of the superhero, which appeared briefly in X-Men: Apocalypse. However, Zimmerman says that the budget requirements of pulling off each one meant the film could only pick and choose a handful. He gives the brown and tan suit as an example,...

Hugh Jackman’s Brown & Yellow Wolverine Suit is Still Insanely Cheaper Compared to Zachary Levi’s Shazam Costume

Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine was hugely successful in theaters. The billion-dollar hit movie had eyes on where they were spending the budget, especially when it came to the superhero suits. While Reynolds donned his iconic red and black suit, Jackman also wore a suit for the first time in the film. He wore a yellow & dark blue suit for most of the film.

Deadpool & Wolverine delivered on its promise and ended up being one of the best Multiverse Saga movies to date. A lot of work went into making the threequel a reality, and filmmaker Shawn Levy enlisted Shane Reid and Dean Zimmerman as editors.

Reid counts the likes of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Saturday Night among his credits, while Zimmerman is Levy's longtime collaborator, having worked on the Night at the Museum franchise, Real Steel, Free Guy, The Adam Project, and many more.

We recently had the good fortune to sit down with Reid and Zimmerman to learn more about their work on the Deadpool threequel.

During our conversation, they talked in detail about the Deadpool Corps' role in the movie (including that incredible oner), the Honda Odyssey fight scene, Wesley Snipes' big Blade moment, the Wolverine Variants sequence, and that iconic scene where Hugh Jackman's Logan finally dons Wolverine's comic-accurate mask.

Stranger Things creators want to avoid Game of Thrones comparisons with the ending
Image
When Game of Thrones wrapped up in 2019, the ending was so controversial that it's become the prototypical example of how not to end a hugely successful show. And now, as Stranger Things enters the final stages of its fifth and final season on Netflix, editor Dean Zimmerman reveals that creators Matt and Ross Duffer had Game of Thrones' mistakes in mind when crafting the show's endgame.

The final season of Stranger Things already feels better placed than Game of Thrones'. One of the biggest criticisms of Thrones was that its last couple of seasons picked up the pace too much, which perhaps could be chocked up to the creators running out of source material to adapt; author George R.R. Martin is still working on future Game of Thrones books to this day. But Stranger Things doesn't technically have any source material, and Matt and Ross Duffer have had the freedom...

Deadpool & Wolverine: Logan’s Brown and Tan suit was only on screen for 10 seconds, but it cost an astonishing amount
Image
It ain’t cheap being a superhero, but it’s the suits where they really get you. Deadpool & Wolverine featured plenty of variants of the title characters, including an appearance from Logan in his classic John Byrne brown and tan suit. The suit appears on screen for just 10 seconds, but it cost more than many of us make in an entire year.

ComicBookMovie.com spoke with Deadpool & Wolverine editors Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid, who revealed that the brown and tan suit cost a whopping $100,000. Quite the price tag. As the production couldn’t afford to spend that on a whole bunch of Wolverine variant suits, Zimmerman explained that they had to choose more cost-effective variants such as Old Man Logan and Wolvie on a cross.

“One of our storyboard artists was a huge comic book fan and he gave us a list of, like, ten of them. There was also,...

The movie showcases a wide array of Marvel’s legacy characters and variants. Fans are treated to numerous versions of both Deadpool and Wolverine, with standout Wolverine variants including Old Man Logan, Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, Short King Wolverine, Patch, The Cavilerine, and, notably, the classic John Byrne Wolverine, who appears in a brief fight scene against Hulk.

It’s in that scene where Wolverine dons his iconic brown and tan suit, which came with a staggering production cost, making the suit extremely expensive to create.

Recently, Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid spoke with ComicBook to explain why several planned variants didn’t make it into the final cut of the film. They revealed that the brown and tan Wolverine suit alone cost $100,000 to produce.

You Won’t Believe How Much Logan’s Brown And Tan Suit From ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ Cost To Make
Image
‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ finally introduced both Deadpool and Wolverine to the MCU. It’s been a tremendously successful movie, and much of that success can be attributed to fan service.

The movie featured a large number of Marvel’s legacy characters and variants. In the movie, fans could see numerous variants of both Deadpool and Wolverine. Some of the most notable Wolverine variants were Old Man Logan, AoA Wolverine, Short King Wolverine, Patch, The Cavillerine, and ultimately, classic John Byrne Wolverine which is featured in a short fight scene against Hulk.

It’s exactly that scene that features Wolverine wearing an iconic brown and tan suit that accumulated eye-watering cost and the suit overall was extremely expensive to make.

Deadpool & Wolverine Editors Reveal The Jaw-Dropping Price Of Logan's Brown And Tan Suit (Exclusive)
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine is a movie full of iconic and memorable moments, but for many fans, the Merc with the Mouth's trip through the Multiverse to find an appropriate Wolverine Variant is a standout sequence.

It's not exactly hard to see why; we follow Wade Wilson as he encounters the likes of Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, Old Man Logan, and even a version of the clawed mutant wearing John Byrne's classic brown and tan suit...for a fight with The Hulk!

Last week, we caught up with Deadpool & Wolverine Editors Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid to discuss their incredible work on the latest MCU movie.

During our conversation, we asked about reports they came up with the idea of adding those Wolverine Variants when work on the threequel was halted as a result of last year's WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

Deadpool & Wolverine Editor Explains Why Gambit Post-Credits Scene Ended Up Being Cut
Image
In Deadpool & Wolverine, the threequel's leads crossed paths with Variants of Blade, Elektra, X-23, and Gambit in The Void. Ultimately, they'd assemble to take on Cassandra Nova's army, though only Laura was confirmed to be alive and well on Earth-10005.

Inevitably, it didn't take fans long to spot Gambit in one of the Tva's monitors during a post-credits scene which saw Wade Wilson run the tape back on his conversation with Johnny Storm.

Ryan Reynolds later released that as a deleted scene showing the X-Man walking through The Void before he turns around and a Marvel Sparkle Circle is reflected in his eyes. Post-release interviews have also strongly hinted that these heroes were sent back to their respective realities.

Stranger Things Season 5: Duffers Motivated To Avoid Game Of Thrones Ending Comparisons
Image
Stranger Things editor Dean Zimmerman shares that the showrunners are carefully ensuring they avoid a Game of Thrones-esque series finale. The Netflix hit will come to a close in 2025, as the central group of teens faces the menace of Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) and the Upside Down in Stranger Things season 5. While Zimmerman has been an editor since 2007, his work on Stranger Things has seen him acknowledged by award bodies, earning one Emmy win for Outstanding Picture Editing alongside two further nominations.

As Zimmerman spoke to Screen Rant about his work on Deadpool and Wolverine ahead of its home release, the editor teased what Stranger Things season 5 has in store. Promising a scale grander than what came before, Zimmerman was quick to praise the work of the two showrunners, Matt and Ross Duffer. Furthermore, the editor acknowledged that it is difficult to craft a fan-pleasing finale that can satisfy everyone,...

'Deadpool & Wolverine' Editor Details Why That Gambit Scene Didn't Make the Cut
Image
Though Deadpool & Wolverine acts as a curtain call for the Fox Marvel universe, Channing Tatum's Gambit "made a name for himself" and then walked away from it all at the end. At least, that's what the deleted post-credits scene shows, as Remy LeBeau steps around the bodies of his fallen enemies and notices a portal opening up to get him out of the void. The scene nearly ended up in the final product, though Shawn Levy's film ultimately relegates the triumphant moment to a blink-and-you'll-miss-it easter egg on a screen when Deadpool returns to the Tva to clear his name. Screen Rant recently interviewed the film's editors Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid, during which the latter shared why the choice was made to keep Gambit's survival obscured instead of giving him a more prominent spot at the end.

Deadpool & Wolverine Editor Explains Why The MCU Movie Cut That Gambit Deleted Scene
Image
The makings of Channing Tatum's final Gambit scene in Deadpool & Wolverine and why it wasn't used in the theatrical cut of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movie gets explained by the film editors. Despite being Marvel Studios' only theatrical outing for 2024, it didn't stop Deadpool & Wolverine from not only becoming a massive box office hit but also a creative victory for the company. From all the Deadpool & Wolverine Easter eggs/references to the multiple cameos, the Shawn Levy-directed film also brought a long-time casting to life as Channing Tatum finally got to play Gambit in live-action.

Screen Rant recently interviewed the Deadpool & Wolverine editors Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid about their work on the massive Phase 5 installment. One of the questions that got brought up was what the reasoning was for excluding Gambit's real ending in Deadpool & Wolverine from the theatrical cut, as Reid revealed...

Deadpool & Wolverine Almost Had A Different Boy Band In Its Opening Scene
Image
One of the most iconic scenes in Deadpool &Wolverine was the dance/fight sequence set to the Nsync song "Bye Bye Bye," which was a massive hit in 2000. However, a song by a different pop group was initially considered for the opening scene.

Speaking to MovieWeb, the film's editors, Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid said a song by the Backstreet Boys was one of the initial picks along with several other tunes. "It actually started with Kenny Rogers' song 'The Gambler,' which all of our pre-vis was cut to," Reid explained. However, Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds, and director Shawn Levy didn't think it was the right fit. "At a certain point, the film took on a different language. The song didn't quite work with the same energy that we wanted that scene to have."

Deadpool & Wolverine Almost Had a Different Opening Song
Image
Deadpool & Wolverine nearly said Bye Bye Bye to its now iconic opening dance number, as the inclusion of Nsync's hit song came late into production, and a rival boy band was a close contender to serenade the opening. The scene sees Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) desecrate Logan's (Hugh Jackman) grave to confirm he's actually dead. When Tva agents apprehend Deadpool, he uses Logan's adamantium skeleton to brutally kill them, taking short breaks to dance to Nsync's anthem.

During an interview with MovieWeb, Deadpool & Wolverine's editors, Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid, revealed that the opening dance scene nearly featured a hit song by Backstreet Boys, as well as a number of timeless classics in the early drafts of the movie. The earliest edit of the movie opened with a very different tone. As Shane Reid explained, "It actually started with Kenny Rogers' song 'The Gambler,' which all of our pre-vis was cut to.

Deadpool & Wolverine Editors are Optimistic About Deadpool 4
Image
Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are remaining tight-lipped about their MCU futures following Deadpool & Wolverine. The mega-blockbuster was a heartfelt send-off to Fox's X-Men universe, featuring some immensely popular legacy characters from the superhero genre, and closing with an emotional montage of BTS footage from various X-Men films. While Reynolds and Jackman are taking their time planning their MCU futures, Shane Reid and Dean Zimmerman, the editors of Deadpool & Wolverine, are optimistic that the on-screen pair will return for a fourth movie.

During an interview with MovieWeb to celebrate Deadpool & Wolverine's release on home video and DVD, Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid expressed their unfiltered excitement about making a fourth Deadpool movie. While most actors, directors, and creatives are hesitant to attach their names to prospective projects too early, Zimmerman and Reid held nothing back. The moment the question about a fourth film was posed, Dean Zimmerman quickly riposted with,...

‘All the Light We Cannot See’ panel: A global casting search finds two needles in a haystack [Watch]
Image
People will look at the cast of the epic Netflix limited series adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning World War II-themed novel “All the Light We Cannot See” from author Anthony Doerr and finds a few names that catch their eye – specifically Mark Ruffalo and Hugh Laurie. They’re big names with decades-long acting pedigrees, after all. But the real stars of the four-parter that premieres in its entirety on November 2 are two females you have never heard of – one a young child, the other a young woman – for whom the series is their introduction to performing: Nell Sutton and Aria Mia Loberti.

The two portray the same role a decade or so apart and are the product of a global casting search for actresses to play the lead character Marie-Laure LeBlanc. As “All the Light We Cannot See” casting director Lucy Bevan told an audience at the DGA Theater in...

Shawn Levy, ‘All the Light We Cannot See’ Team on Using Ukrainian Refugees to Play Extras Escaping WWII Nazi Invasion
Image
Director Shawn Levy and the creative team behind Netflix limited series All the Light We Cannot See took part in a panel conversation on Tuesday, where they discussed how the project became more timely than they ever imagined.

The show is adapted from the Pulitzer-winning World War II novel by Anthony Doerr, which follows a blind French girl who takes refuge in Saint-Malo after Paris is invaded by Nazi Germany and a German boy who is recruited to join the Nazi army because of his skills in radio technology, also leading him to Saint-Malo.

Levy told the crowd at a Los Angeles special screening that he first read and fell in the love with the book as a fan and had no plans of working on an adaptation, especially because the novel’s rights belonged to someone else at the time, who planned to make it into a film rather than a series.

Dacre Montgomery (‘Stranger Things’) on filming his Season 4 appearance from Australia: ‘I put everything into this moment’ [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
“I like to do a lot of character prep and development and sort of live in character,” explains Dacre Montgomery of his acting process. The breakout “Stranger Things” star made a surprise return to the hit Netflix series in Season 4 despite his character Billy being killed in the previous season. His appearance was brief, but it provided the actor with a unique filming opportunity and the chance to put a final touch on a role that means a great deal to him. “It’s a culmination of hundreds of hours of work and really living in character in many ways,” says Montgomery. Watch the exclusive video interview above.

The Duffer Brothers called Montgomery near the start of the global pandemic with the offer to return for some pivotal scenes with Max (Sadie Sink). “And then it became quite difficult to leave Australia,” says the actor, noting that he was stuck...

It Starts On The Page: Read The ‘Stranger Things’ S4 Finale Script “The Piggyback” By The Duffer Brothers
Image
Editor’s note: Deadline’s It Starts On The Page features 10 standout drama series scripts in 2023 Emmy contention. It showcases the critical role writer’s work plays in a show’s success. All materials (the script and writers intro) were submitted before the WGA strike began on May 2.

In the penultimate fourth season of their Netflix mega hit Stranger Things, Matt and Ross Duffer shook things up. For three years, audiences had became accustomed to seeing their favorite ragtag bunch from Hawkins, Indiana battle evil supernatural forces and ultimately prevail in the finale, including the Season 2 closer, which, along with the series premiere, earned the Duffers both writing and directing Emmy nominations.

However, Season 4, in which the group faced their biggest threat yet and had to once again journey into the Upside Down to save the world, ended with Eleven & Co’s defeat in the finale, “The Piggyback.”

Written and directed by The Duffers,...

‘Stranger Things 4’ eligible for 2023 Emmys in these 13 categories: Guest Actor, Writing, Directing … [Exclusive]
Image
Typically at the Emmy Awards, a TV show is judged on a full season as it aired entirely within a single eligibility period. However, in extremely rare cases, a drama or comedy will have what’s known as “orphaned” episodes that air outside of the cut-off date. That’s exactly why Season 4 of The Duffer Brothers‘ sci-fi megahit “Stranger Things” is eligible in two consecutive Emmy cycles, last year and this year. Gold Derby has exclusively learned which 13 categories Netflix is submitting for consideration at the 2023 Emmys (see below).

To recap, the first seven episodes of “Stranger Things 4” streamed on May 27, 2022 and thus competed at last year’s Emmys, where it nabbed 13 nominations and won five. But the last two episodes streamed on July 1, 2022, a full month after the eligibility period ended. TV academy rules stipulate that those two orphaned episodes are now eligible at the 2023 Emmys, but with a catch.
