Sergey Yurskiy is a Soviet and Russian actor and director of theater and cinema. People's Artist of the Russian SFSR.

After school, Sergey Yurskiy entered the law faculty of the Leningrad University named after Andrei Zhdanov. While studying at the university, he participated in productions of the Leningrad State University Theater Studio under the direction of actress and teacher Evgeniya Karpova. In 1955, after the 3rd year of the law faculty, he entered the acting department of the Leningrad Theatre Institute named after Aleksandr Ostrovskiy, Leonid Makaryev's course.

In 1957, Sergey Yurskiy was invited to the Gorkiy Bolshoy Drama Theater. From the mid-1960s he was one of the leading actors of the Tovstonogov troupe. Here Sergey Yurskiy debuted as a director, staging the play 'Moliere' based on Mikhail A. Bulgakov in 1974.

He has been acting in films since 1957, debuting in the film Ulitsa polna neozhidannostey (1958). The actor became famous after his role as Vicknixor in Gennadi Poloka's film Respublika ShKID (1966). He increased his popularity with viewers by playing Ostap Bender in the film Zolotoy telyonok (1968) directed by Mikhail Shvejtser. One of the most beloved roles of Sergey Yurskiy is Uncle Mitya in the melodramatic comedy Lyubov i golubi (1985).

In 1978, Yurskiy moved to Moscow and became an actor, and later a director at the Mossovet Theater. Since 1991, he has simultaneously acted and staged plays on the stage of the Theater 'School of Contemporary Play'.
