Freddy vs. Jason is the most nu-metal horror movie ever made!
Image
There’s a moment in Freddy vs. Jason—around the time Jason Voorhees is full-body launching Freddy Krueger through a series of windows like a demonic crash test dummy—when it clicks. This isn’t just a horror movie. This is a full-blown, double-kick drum, headbanging nu-metal showdown wearing a hockey mask and finger knives. And whether you’re here for the kills, the chaos, or the Killswitch Engage, one thing is clear: Freddy vs. Jason is the most nu-metal horror film ever made. And it’s not even close.

Let’s not undersell the movie itself. Released in 2003, Freddy vs. Jason was the cinematic equivalent of a dream match—two of horror’s most iconic slashers colliding in a film that was decades in the making, fueled by fan demand and a mountain of failed scripts. But once it hit theaters, it gave audiences exactly what they wanted: blood,...

Film Review: Legacy of Rage (1986) by Ronny Yu
Image
Directed by Ronny Yu and featuring a young Brandon Lee in the lead role, “Legacy of Rage” was also his only Hong Kong production. American actor Lee, trained in Jeet Kune Do, Wing Chun, and Muay Thai, was the son of the legendary martial arts icon Bruce Lee. After returning to America, he went on to star in “Showdown in Little Tokyo” (1991), “Rapid Fire” (1992), and “The Crow” (1994).

In this revenge-driven story, Brandon Ma (Brandon Lee) and May (Regina Kent) are a happy couple living in a small apartment. Ma loves motorbikes and works two jobs—a car wrecker during the day and a waiter at night. May also works at the same nightclub as a dancer. Their wealthy friend, Michael (Michael Wong), enjoys spending time with them, believing he can win May over. Unaware that Michael’s father, Boss Yee (Michael...

10 Greatest Movie Crossovers That Almost Happened (But Sadly Didn't)
Image
It's hard to find a studio that isn't dying to get their own hit crossover film nowadays, especially when compared to the likes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its numerous successes. However, it may surprise audiences to know that there have been many proposed crossover films between characters of all different films and genres, and many that were never realized.

Although the world has gotten to see massive crossover films like Freddy vs. Jason and The Avengers, there are many other movies that fans probably would've loved to see as well.

Ash Almost Starred in the Greatest Horror Crossover Evil Dead & A Nightmare on Elm Street & Friday the 13th

After the success of the major horror crossover Freddy vs. Jason in 2003, plans for a bigger sequel were quickly put in motion. Audiences had already seen two of horror's most legendary characters duke it out on the big screen, so...

Winner Kills All with Gutter Garbs’ ‘Freddy vs. Jason’ Collection
Image
Freddy vs. Jason is often overlooked when it comes to A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th merch, but Gutter Garbs just dropped a killer collection dedicated to the crossover.

Sam Coyne created two new designs for the film: one featuring the iconic killers squaring off and another inspired by the film’s fiery finale.

Both pieces, along with the original poster artwork, are available on T-shirts for $32, Comfort Colors tees for $34, and zip-up or pullover hoodies for $55.

Coyne’s designs also come on long sleeves for $40 and 12×18 posters for $30.

Rounding out the collection are three hard enamel pins of Freddy, Jason, and Devil Freddy. Designed by Matthew Skiff, they’re $13 each.

Ranking The Friday the 13th Franchise – 45 Years of the Violent Voorhees Family
Image
When Friday the 13th (1980) was first released into theaters, there was not a lot of hope for a sustained franchise. After all, they knock off most of the characters and the villain out of the gate. Yet in the last days of filming, Jason Voorhees made his first appearance, and Friday the 13th became a twelve-film phenomenon. With December 13th falling on a Friday, it’s a perfect time to revisit the fun franchise.

12. Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning (1985)

It’s almost unfair to rank this movie this low. However, Friday the 13th Part V is a mess from beginning to end. After Corey Feldman’s cameo, it takes more than twenty-five minutes for Jason to return to the screen. Even then, it’s not the Voorhees we’ve come to love. The result was so disastrous, that producers decided to bring Jason back from the dead immediately.

A Famous Horror Crossover Movie Is Slashing Up Max's Top Charts
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

It's spooky season, and for a great many movie lovers out there, that means it's time to binge on some horror. As a result, arguably the biggest crossover in the history of the genre has found new life on the Max streaming service. 2003's "Freddy vs. Jason" has been sitting firmly in the streamer's top ten movie charts as of late, with viewers very interested in the cinematic showdown between Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees to get them into the spirit of Halloween.

"Freddy vs. Jason" is currently at number nine on Max right now, per FlixPatrol. It's sitting just above Wes Craven's original "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and just below 2017's "It," which is literally the biggest horror movie of all time. The list is currently dominated by horror or horror-adjacent fare, with Ti West's "MaXXXine...

Freddy vs. Jason is Slashing Up HBO Chart After Streaming on Max
Image
Many movies have been called out for focusing too much on fan service over pleasing a general audience. That was not really a complaint that any A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th fan should have had when Freddy vs. Jason finally became a reality in 2003. While it received a mixed bag of reviews from both critics and audiences, the films recent leap into the HBO movie chart has proven that you really cant keep a good movie maniac down.

Freddy vs. Jason is one of many horror titles added to Max last week in the build up to Halloween, and fans have been very quick to reacquaint themselves with the horror mashup that pitted two cinematic icons against each other long before anyone believed Godzilla v. Kong was ever a possibility. The film has bobbled around the Top Ten for the best part of a week since it dropped in the U.

6 comedy horror movies like Bodies Bodies Bodies to watch on Netflix
Image
Fans of the comedy horror Bodies Bodies Bodies will be disappointed to learn that the movie will leave Netflix on Sept. 19, 2024. But the good news is that a long list of horror comedies is available on the streaming service to fill the void. And don't miss this year's Netflix & Chills lineup.

Bodies Bodies Bodies and other horror comedies are a unique subgenre of horror that mixes slasher elements with absurd comedic ones. Mixing comedy with horror is nothing new, as Edgar Allan Poe and other writers often combined the two in their works.

Bride of Chucky

Snakes on a Plane (2006) – Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
The episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? covering Snakes on a Plane was Written and Narrated by Mike Holtz, Edited by Jaime Vasquez, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.

When you go back and take a look at the movies that were released in 2006, you might think we were all high. I mean some of us were but regardless, everything was so over the top. Eli Roth’s Hostel was tearing off tourists’ clothes while slashing their Achilles’, The Hills Have Eyes remake was gnarly in every way and does anybody remember that really cool but super weird Paul Walker flick Running Scared? We were on some dark stuff back in the mid-2000s. It wasn’t just the horror and action genres, either. Comedies like Grandma’s Boy had a level of wildness to them that you don’t see these days.

Robert Englund and Ken Kirzinger in Freddy contre Jason (2003)
A new episode of the Real Slashers video series has just been released, and with this one we’re looking back at a movie that gave us two iconic slashers for the price of one: the 2003 monster mash Freddy vs. Jason (watch it Here)! Somehow it’s been over twenty years since that long-awaited match-up reached theatres screens, and you can hear all about what happened when Freddy Krueger crossed paths with Jason Voorhees in the video embedded above.

Goyer), Freddy vs. Jason has the following synopsis: Get ready for the ultimate showdown! It’s been nearly ten years since Freddy, from the Nightmare on Elm Street series, invaded people’s dreams to exact his deadly form of revenge and murder.

The Correct Order To Watch The Friday The 13th Movies
Image
The mythology for the long-running "Friday the 13th" film series has been notoriously shabby and amorphous. At the end of Sean Cunningham's 1980 original slasher, it was revealed that Pamela Voorhees (Betsy Palmer) had witnessed her developmentally disabled son Jason drown in Crystal Lake years earlier, largely thanks to the neglect of the boy's randy, sex-distracted counselors. Pamela set about getting madness-inspired spiritual revenge by murdering any new counselors who deigned to have sex at Camp Crystal Lake. Luckily, Pamela was killed before she could commit any more murders than she already did.

In Steve Miner's "Friday the 13th Part 2," however, it was revealed that Jason (Steve Daskewisz and Warrington Gillette) was still alive, living in the woods for decades, presumably unbeknownst to his mother. But Jason, it is revealed, knew his mother was killing people and witnessed the events of the first "Friday." Why, one will immediately ask,...

Chucky Ready to Play Today in ‘Dead by Daylight’, Includes ‘Bride of Chucky’ Skins! [Trailer]
Jason Blum and Gavin Magnus in Dead by Daylight
The wait is finally over for your favourite Good Guy to join The Fog in Behaviour Interactive’s Dead by Daylight! Chuck from the Child’s Play series is available now, and arrives with the Friends ’Til The End Collection, which features two iconic outfits for Chucky inspired by Ronny Yu’s Bride of Chucky!

The addition of Chucky “brings a playfulness to the game that only The Good Guy himself can muster.” That includes a brand-new third-person perspective camera while playing as Chucky to accommodate for his diminutive size. And of course, it wouldn’t be Chucky without the iconic Brad Dourif returning to voice the foul-mouthed pint, creating a faithful recreation of what you’d expect from Chucky’s murderous mayhem.

As was detailed late last week, Chucky arrives in Dead by Daylight with his own unique abilities. His Special Ability, Hidey-Ho Mode, creates Footfalls, a disorienting audio and...

Terrifier 2 Director Knows How To Revive The Friday The 13th Series [Exclusive]
Image
Counting Ronny Yu's 2003 mash-up film "Freddy vs. Jason" and a remake in 2009, there have been twelve "Friday the 13th" movies to date. There would likely have been more by now -- poetically speaking, shouldn't there be at least 13 of them? -- but production on further sequels has been stymied by some complex litigation; Victor Miller, the original screenwriter of 1980's "Friday the 13th," has argued in court that a labyrinthine series of business transfers put the rights to the original movie back in his name, while producer/director Sean S. Cunningham asserts that his company owns the rights due to a 40-year-old work-for-hire contract. Until that dispute is settled, no further "Friday the 13th" movies are likely to be made.

That hasn't stopped ideas from being floated. Rumors have circulated for years about potential "Friday" sequels. The screenwriters of the 2009 remake wrote a direct sequel to their movie that was never made.

Film Review: The Postman Strikes Back (1982) by Ronny Yu
Image
By 1982, the martial arts movie in its traditional guise was starting to flounder. The era of the Kung Fu comedy was starting to fade, and the era of Jackie Chan was just starting to hit full gear as “Project A” was to come the next year and the modern action movie would begin to form. “The Postman Strikes Back” consequently falls somewhere in between and as it receives a fresh Blu-ray release from 88 Films, it’s time to step back and revisit a movie that probably deserves a bigger audience.

Is Freddy Vs. Jason 2 Happening? The First One Left The Door Open For A Rematch
Image
Ronny Yu's 2003 horror/action flick "Freddy vs. Jason" gave audiences pretty much everything they might want in a sensationalized cross-over between "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Friday the 13th." In addition to the requisite cast of pretty young people getting chopped into pieces by one of the film's two title villains, it featured every iteration of fight between Freddy and Jason. There was a fight in the dream world (where Freddy had the upper hand) and a fight at a real-world campground (where Jason did). There was a lot of growling, cutting, slashing, etc. Whichever villain was your favorite, you saw what you wanted to see.

At the end, the actual victor was left a little ambiguous. It seemed for a moment that Jason (Ken Kirzinger) was the winner, as he emerged from Crystal Lake, post-conflagration, holding the severed head of Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). Freddy, however, still possessed of his supernatural powers,...

How Does Freddy vs. Jason Still Hold This Horror Record After 20 Years?
Image
Freddy vs. Jason holds the box office record for both the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises, outperforming previous installments. Despite mixed critical reviews, the crossover film grossed over $116 million worldwide, drawing audiences with its entertaining and memorable experience. The lack of opportunities for new sequels in both franchises, due to rights issues, suggests that Freddy vs. Jason will hold onto its box office record for the foreseeable future.

Horror franchises like Scream and Halloween have released successful sequels over the past few years, but 2003's Freddy vs. Jason still holds a box office record that suggests the Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises could use an update. A crossover that pit the dream-hopping Freddy Krueger against the machete-wielding Jason Voorhees, Freddy vs. Jason became an iconic addition to both series and the horror genre in general. It capitalized on viewers' love of the two horror villains,...

Freddy Vs Jason's Original Ending Set Up A Sequel We Never Saw
Image
Ronnie Yu's 2003 film "Freddy vs. Jason" -- simultaneously the eighth film in the "Nightmare on Elm Street" series and the eleventh film in the "Friday the 13th" series -- finally brought together two of the most popular characters of the 1980s slasher boom and had them wail on each other in a series of supernatural monster fights. Most slasher fans would have appreciated a "Freddy vs. Jason" film about a decade earlier, but there was still magic in the air in 2003; Yu's film made over $116 million on a $30 million budget.

It also, in a very utilitarian way, gave audiences exactly what they wanted. There was a decent-enough retinue of teenage victims to slaughter (led by actress Monica Keena). The story hung together juuuust well enough. And the final fights between Freddy (Robert Englund) and Jason (Ken Kirzinger) addressed any late-night, heavily intoxicated concerns horror fanboys might have posited.

Two Of Star Trek's Most Prolific Writers Took On A Draft Of Freddy Vs Jason
Image
In 1984, Jason Voorhees (Ted White) finally met his end in Joseph Zito's "Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter." He was finally dead. In 1991, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) finally met his end in Rachel Talalay's "Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare." He was finally dead. In 1993, Jason Voorhees met his end again in Adam Marcus' "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday." He was finally dead again. In 1994, Freddy Krueger finally met his end again in "Wes Craven's New Nightmare." He was finally dead again.

The two monsters were once again somehow alive to face off in Ronny Yu's excitable 2003 battle royale "Freddy vs. Jason," a film that felt like it came too late to bank on the popularity of the characters, but that was a massive hit nonetheless. Longtime fans of 1980s slasher movies were eager to see two of the most popular monsters of its heyday (played...

‘Freddy vs. Jason’ 20 Years Later – The Ultimate Horror Battle Still Satisfies After All These Years
Image
I was somewhat of a late bloomer when it came to my exposure to horror. I lacked the cool older relative or friend that seems to serve as a customary gateway for many genre fans. I had seen a few horror movies growing up (Child’s Play and Scream each terrified me at different points in my youth), but seeing Freddy vs. Jason at the tender age of 15 is single-handedly responsible for the horror fandom that has consumed my life ever since. Without the movie — which hit theaters 20 years ago today — I very likely wouldn’t be writing for Bloody Disgusting now.

I knew of Freddy and Jason through pop culture osmosis, but I hadn’t seen any of the combined 17 films that comprised the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises when Freddy vs. Jason piqued my interest. Even with the advent of Netflix’s DVDs by mail,...

Freddy Vs Jason Proved It Was Impossible To Root For Freddy Krueger
Image
It took 19 years for Freddy Krueger from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and Jason Voorhees from "Friday the 13th" to finally clash on the big screen. And let's face it: the two horror titans, the definitive monsters of '80s cinema, were always destined to duke it out. The fans demanded it, and the studios involved knew it would make bank. The perfect storm. It was just a matter of when. But this guaranteed success suffered in development hell throughout the '90s as writers and directors came and went, a rotating door of noteworthy (and not-so-noteworthy) talent that tried to crack the indelible premise of these two iconic characters battling to the death and transform it into an actual, workable movie.

And after so many folks tried and failed, writers Damian Shannon and Mark Swift finally cracked the code, and director Ronny Yu translated it to the screen. And...

How King Kong And Godzilla Provided A Road Map For Freddy Vs Jason
Image
You didn't have to be a horror aficionado to appreciate the enormity of "Freddy vs. Jason" in 2003. This was two of the titans of the slasher genre finally going head-to-head in a bloody free-for-all. Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees had slashed, stabbed, and otherwise punctured our collective pop cultural consciousness for years by then. As a young kid who had yet to see any of the "A Nightmare on Elm Street" or "Friday the 13th" films, even I knew exactly what was being referenced the first time I saw the scene in "Christmas Vacation" where Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) dons a hockey mask while taking a chainsaw to his gigantic Christmas tree.

Crossover films of this ilk have largely gone the way of the dodo since "Freddy vs. Jason" came out. We're now 80 years removed from Frankenstein's monster meeting the Wolf Man for the first time in Universal's Og Dark Universe,...

The Fright of the Century: 20 Years of Freddy Vs. Jason
Image
At the end of 1993’s Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, horror fans saw the sight of Friday the 13th slasher Jason Voorhees’ hockey mask lying in the dirt, after its wearer had been vanquished. It seemed as though the story of this villain had finally come to the end. At least until A Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger’s blade-gloved hand popped out of the dirt and dragged the mask to Hell.

The scene seemed to tease an oncoming battle between Krueger and Voorhees, which fans had wanted. Horror geeks had debated who would win in such a fight, but for a very long time, it seemed like it would only exist in people’s fantasies and never in an actual movie. Until, of course, Ronny Yu’s Freddy vs. Jason came to fruition.

The slasher team up was released in the summer of 2003 and is...

Jackson fought to keep the 'Snakes on a Plane' film title from being changed. The actor starred in the 2006 action horror which features passengers fighting a horde of venomous villains which had been placed on the aircraft by a gang boss in an attempt to cause a crash - and he's now revealed studio bosses wanted to give the film a more generic name to keep the snakes a secret but he wasn't happy about it. Speaking to Vulture, the 74-year-old actor explained he was excited about signing on for the movie because of the title, saying: "When I heard about 'Snakes on a Plane', I had just done 'Formula 51' with the director [Ronny Yu]. So I called him, was like: 'Are you going to do a movie called 'Snakes on a Plane'? Is it what I think it is?...

Samuel L. Jackson Recalls Fighting for Snakes on a Plane to Keep Its Title
Image
Much of the appeal for filmgoers with the 2006 film Snakes on a Plane was its peculiar title, and star Samuel L. Jackson can be thanked for making sure that name didn't change.

Jackson recently participated in an interview with Vulture, and he delved into a wide variety of different films from his body of work. At one point, Jackson notes how he grew up with monster movies, from Creature from the Black Lagoon to The Blob. Having a fondness for the genre, Jackson immediately had his interest piqued when he saw that a movie called Snakes in a Plane was going into production. The Pulp Fiction star then made it his mission to get involved with the movie as he was sold on the title alone. Fortunately, he happened to know the director, Ronnie Yu.

Don Mancini at an event for Le Fils de Chucky (2004)
25 Years Later, ‘Bride of Chucky’ Remains a High Bar for the Horror Comedy [Halloweenies Podcast]
Don Mancini at an event for Le Fils de Chucky (2004)
In October of 1998, it wasn’t only Chucky who got lucky, it was Universal. Thanks to foresight of writer Don Mancini and producer David Kirschner, the studio capitalized on the still-thriving post-Scream wave by resurrecting their Child’s Play franchise. At the time, the series had been gathering dust for most of the decade after the less-than returns of 1991’s Child’s Play 3.

Enter Bride of Chucky.

Directed by Ronny Yu, the stylish horror comedy doubled down on the dolls, pairing Brad Dourif‘s foul-mouthed friend ’til the end with Jennifer Tilly, who would become the Chuckster’s bride Tiffany. What’s more, Mancini opted to sideline the humans, giving not only fans what they wanted, but what the franchise ultimately needed in that moment.

Now, nearly 25 years later, the Halloweenies hit the road and head towards Hackensack, New Jersey, where they’ll spend two episodes revisiting the 1998 blockbuster. Together, Justin Gerber,...

Lady Reporter Blu-ray Review – Eureka
Image
The Film

Cynthia Rothrock made her film debut in Yes Madam, subsequently going on to great success in supporting roles in the likes of Righting Wrongs and Millionaires Express. Lady Reporter (also known by the much cooler title The Blonde Fury) though would be her first true vehicle. It was conceived for her and directed largely by her Yes Madam colleague (and sometime partner) Mang Hoi. It’s a ground-breaking film in one major way: it was the first, and to date remains the only, time that a non-Asian actress was top billed in a Hong Kong martial arts film.

The film finds Rothrock playing Cindy, and FBI agent recruited to go undercover at a Hong Kong newspaper which the Feds think is being used as cover for a counterfeit money operation. As you might expect, kicking ensues.

The plot isn’t particularly complicated, but it doesn’t always connect perfectly from scene to scene.

‘Living with Chucky’ and the ‘Child’s Play’ Franchise’s Recurring Themes of Family
Image
Filmmaker Kyra Elise Gardner’s examination of the Child’s Play franchise comes from a personal place in Living with Chucky, debuting on Screambox and Digital on April 4, 2023.

Kyra Elise Gardner is the daughter of Tony Gardner, one of the most prominent and integral special effects artists in the “Chucky” franchise. For the Gardners, Chucky is family.

And the Chucky films, well, they’re often about family as well.

The filmmaker’s familial relationship with the killer Good Guy doll, voiced by Brad Dourif, fittingly coincided with the horror icon unexpectedly finding himself a family in Bride of Chucky. Bride, penned by Don Mancini and directed by Ronny Yu, gave series protagonist Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) a much-needed rest and instead introduced franchise mainstay Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly), opening up new layers to Chucky in the process.

The very human but unhinged Tiffany revives Chucky through voodoo, hoping to rekindle their...

New Nightmare on Elm Street Movie Pitch Teased By Hill House Creator
Image
Mike Flanagan, the creator of horror series The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, has teased his pitch for a new A Nightmare on Elm Street movie. The original A Nightmare on Elm Street premiered in 1984, and is widely considered to be one of the best horror films of all-time. The movie launched a horror franchise of the same name, with eight sequels released between 1985 and 2003. In 2010, A Nightmare on Elm Street was remade by director Samuel Bayer, but it was a box office flop, and there has not been another film addition to the franchise since.

In an interview with Flanagan on the Script Apart podcast, the Haunting of Hill House creator pitches what his version of A Nightmare on Elm Street could look like. Flanagan says that he's had a full pitch for a new A Nightmare on Elm Street prepared for years, but getting the rights for the franchise is difficult.

Friday the 13th: When Did Jason Voorhees Become the Hero of His Franchise?
Image
This article contains Freddy vs. Jason spoilers.

As a wrestling fan, one of the things I always found interesting was the idea of a match where it was bad guy vs. bad guy. In a form of entertainment based on cheering on the hero, the heel vs. heel scenario makes you question who the lesser evil is. Do you side with the kleptomaniac obsessed with repossessing people’s property or the supernatural voodoo priest who makes his opponents secrete black ooze from their foreheads? The egotistical male model or the egotistical gigolo? The flamboyant bullies or the evil rich guys?

Horror movies are a lot like that. Your list of victims may have a few jackasses in there, but being kind of an asshole is better than being a deranged serial killer… most of the time. Over the course of the Friday the 13th series, not counting the first and fifth movies,...

The Best Campy Horror Movies to Watch After M3GAN
Image
Seemingly out of nowhere, M3GAN looks like it might be the next big franchise in horror. The film has received rave reviews and broke through on TikTok before it was even released. The film’s ending hints at a sequel, and with the film raking in 30.2 million in its opening weekend, it looks likely that M3GAN will be here to stay.

The movie’s viral dance scene speaks to its campier elements, which have made M3GAN both an internet sensation and an unlikely queer icon. Here are 10 more campy horror movies to watch if you’re still riding high on the M3GAN hype train.

Candyman Vs Leprechaun Could've Happened, But Tony Todd Said No
Image
Jeff McQueen's 2006 documentary film "Going to Pieces: The Rise and Fall of the Slasher Film" goes into great detail as to what made a good slasher and dives deep into the genre's cultural meaning and impact. It also argues that the genre was petering out by the late 1980s, as endless sequels were making slashers' once-comforting banality seem less and less appealing. The early 1990s would have been the ideal time to bid the genre farewell with the on-screen conflict every gorehound wanted to see: Freddy Krueger from Wes Craven's 1984 film "A Nightmare on Elm Street" fighting Jason Voorhees from Sean Cunningham's 1980 film "Friday the 13th."

And while rumors circulated about "Nightmare Friday," new notable horror villains began appearing in slasher movie's waning ebb, particularly the eponymous Candyman from Bernard Rose's 1992 film, and the eponymous Leprechaun from Mark Jones' 1993 film. The former was critically lauded, the latter was not.

Samuel L Jackson told Snakes on a Plane producers he would quit if they changed the movie’s title
Image
Samuel L Jackson has revealed that he threatened to quit the movie Snakes on a Plane if producers went with its alternative title.

The 2006 action film, directed by David R Ellis, starred Jackson as an FBI agent on a plane where dozens of venomous snakes have been released in an attempt to kill a trial witness.

During an interview on the podcast Pardon My Take, Jackson reflected on how, after filmmaker Ronny Yu was fired from the movie, production company New Line Cinema wanted to change the film’s name.

Jackson said: “The first day I got there, they were passing out new pages, and they gave me this script that said Pacific Flight 121, and I’m like, ‘The f*** is this?’”

The studio told the actor that the film’s name had been changed so as not to spoil its plot.

To which Jackson replied: “You exactly want to do that!

Nightmare On Elm Street Star Heather Langenkamp Wants To Star In One Last Sequel
Image
It doesn't matter how many times a slasher villain dies, they will return. Even if a long-running film series has been stretched past the point of credulity, the villain will somehow be back. "Friday the 13th" has traversed Jason Voorhees' constant returns with little explanation, eventually clarifying that he is possessed by a demon (if one prefers "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday") or that he is afflicted with a rare medical condition that allows his cells to spontaneously regenerate (if one prefers "Jason X"). "Halloween," meanwhile, has allowed Michael Myers' constant return by incessantly rebooting itself. At last count, there are at least five separate continuities across 13 "Halloween" movies.

In 1994, Wes Craven cleverly introduced an in-film reason for Freddy Krueger -- the undead, claw-handed dream demon from "A Nightmare on Elm Street" -- to constantly return. In "Wes Craven's New Nightmare," the filmmaker appears as himself to explain...

The Bride with White Hair
Image
Lee Broughton returns with a critique of Hong Kong filmmaker Ronny Yu’s magical, mystical and martial arts-laden reimagining of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Relocating the Bard’s tale to ancient China results in our star-crossed lovers from warring clans being suitably redrawn: one is a super warrior while the other is a deadly assassin. Stylish cinematography, grand looking sets, stylised interludes, good fight choreography and an abundance of excellent wire work effects result in a very classy looking period action piece.

Freddy Vs. Jason: 10 Horror Villains We'd Love To See Clash (& 10 That Would Be Hilariously Awful)
Ronny Yu in Magic warriors (1997)
The mega-horror movie franchise mashup Freddy Vs. Jason has two of the most iconic horror villains of all-time square off for sinister supremacy. The Ronny Yu film grossed more than $116 million on an estimated $30 million budget while also garnering largely favorable reviews from fans and critics alike. However, despite the success, a sequel was never produced.
