Why Mark Ballas Took A Long Hiatus From DWTS
Image
Dancing With the Stars' devoted fans were elated to see veteran dancer Mark Ballas back on the show for Season 33. However, Mark didn't return as a pro dancer, but was given a seat on the judges' panel as a guest judge for the very first time. Mark's performance as a judge was well-received.

Mark returned to perform alongside pro-turned-judge Derek Hough during the season finale. They wowed both the live audience and viewers at home with their Argentine Tango. It was also amazing to see Mark on the ballroom floor. The DWTS alum has performed for 20 seasons, but fans will recall that he took a lengthy hiatus after he competed in Season 25. He wouldn't return until Season 31, which ended up being his very last.

Who Went Home On Dancing With The Stars' 500th Episode Celebration?
Image
Who would have known back in 2005, when the very first episode of Dancing With The Stars aired with a cast of celebrities like Joey McIntyre, Kelly Monaco, The Bachelorette's Trista Sutter and Evander Holyfield, that nearly 20 years later, the show would be celebrating its 500th episode to just as much hype and popularity as ever? After a whopping 33 seasons, 21 Emmy Awards, 51 professional dancers and nearly 400 celebrities who have taken to the ballroom hoping to win the coveted mirrorball trophy, the ABC hit reality show is hitting another stride, with a rise in viewership this season in the 18-49 demographic, no doubt thanks to the popularity of contestants like Olympian Ilona Maher and The Bachelor's Joey Graziadei.

DWTS Season 33 rumors: Fans react to Olympic medalist possibly joining cast
Image
A fun part for fans ahead of each Dancing With the Stars season is trying to figure out which celebrities might be cast.

With Season 33 approaching, fans are speculating and excited about a popular Olympic medalist potentially joining the cast.

The show has featured Olympic stars in the past, including Laurie Hernandez, Kristi Yamaguchi, Shawn Johnson, Adam Rippon, and Apolo Anton Ohno.

Each celebrity competitor also won their respective season of DWTS, showing dedication to tirelessly practicing to achieve a goal. In the case of the Olympics, it’s medals, and with DWTS, it’s the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy.

While the 2024 Summer Games in Paris, France, have featured gymnast Simone Biles, track star Noah Lyles, and NBA superstar LeBron James, it doesn’t seem any of them will compete on the dance television show.

Instead, fans spotted a clue potentially revealing that a recognizable rugby star will join the DWTS Season 33 cast.

Gold Gala is the type of weekend where you can share an intimate booth at L.A. culinary hotspot Yangban with a Pulitzer winner (journalist Jose Antonio Vargas) and a top festival exec (TIFF chief programming officer Anita Lee) on Friday night and then mimosas and a sound bath at the Four Seasons the next morning with an Olympic figure skater and a former Miss Universe (Madison Chock and R’Bonney Gabriel, respectively) – all as part of mere pre-gaming to the titular main event, which took place at the Music Center in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday night.

Ostensibly a cultural celebration and awards dinner from Asian Pacific power broker network Gold House, the third annual Gold Gala was simultaneously an haute couture showcase (fashion designer Prabal Gurung served as its creative director) and a family reunion, with 600 Api talent and leaders from across multiple industries turning out in their finest “heritage black tie,...

Fans await the cast reveal for Dancing with the Stars Season 33, as each season brings various stars from acting, singing, social media, and sports.

Many sports stars have captured the coveted Mirrorball Trophy, now named the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy, in the late DWTS judge’s honor.

Rumors suggested the show’s producers wanted to score big by bringing basketball superstar Caitlin Clark in for the upcoming season.

Clark captured much attention throughout the college basketball season, and DWTS desperately wanted her as part of the cast.

However, an insider says despite them “bending over backwards” to get Clark on the show, she “respectfully declined.”

That was due to Clark having other things to focus on, including her basketball career, and she has her eye on a few shows on which she’d prefer to appear.

How Carolyn Taylor’s Teen Dreams of Olympic Skating — and Katarina Witt — Resulted in New Crave Comedy ‘I Have Nothing’
Image
It all started in 1988 with an obsession: Canadian comic Carolyn Taylor, now known as one of the stars and co-creators of “Baroness Von Sketch Show,” was a “closeted 15-year-old” watching Olympic figure skating in her aunt’s living room. She recalls Katarina Witt performing a free skate to “Carmen” in an iconic red costume. At the very end, Witt performatively lay down on the ice — and Taylor just wanted to lie next to her.

“It was one of those foundational moments,” Taylor tells Variety. “But then I went on with my life, and didn’t pursue skating or Olympics in any capacity.”

Fast forward to 2016. Taylor was driving in the car with her girlfriend when Whitney Houston’s 1992 song “I Have Nothing” came on the radio. “It was as if I had heard it for the first time,” she recalls. She had a vision of “a professional pairs, gold medalist skating routine,...

‘Dancing with the Stars’ Season 32 will have 3 judges, according to Shirley Ballas
Image
After Len Goodman‘s retirement on “Dancing with the Stars” in November, every fan has been wondering who will replace him at the judges’ table in Season 32. Shirley Ballas, who succeeded Goodman as head judge on Britain’s “Strictly Come Dancing” in 2017, has been speculated as one of his replacements, but the ballroom dancer says it’s looking like it’ll no one will take his seat.

“I spoke to [executive producer and showrunner] Conrad Green. I think at the moment they’re gonna keep it to three judges,” Ballas recently said on the British talk show “Loose Women.” (watch below).

This jibes with “Entertainment Tonight’s” report after the Season 31 finale in November that cited a source claiming that the show will “likely to go back to a three-judge format.” “Dancing” started out with three judges in 2005 — head judge Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli — and grew to four with Julianne Hough in Seasons 19, 20, 23 and 24. Mark Ballas Not Sure If He’ll Return To DWTS After Third Win
Image
Mark Ballas returned to Dancing With The Stars for season 31 and took home the Mirrorball Trophy with his partner Charli D’Amelio. However, the pro dancer does not know if he will be back for next season quite yet. The pair won after Mark had taken a five-year break from the hit reality show.

On Dancing With The Stars, winning this season was Mark’s third time getting the Mirrorball Trophy, as he won season 6 with partner Kristi Yamaguchi and season 8 with partner Shawn Johnson. Mark told US Weekly, “I don’t know if I’m coming back. You know the older I get, I try to stay very present in the moment, you know, and I think that was like a big part of creating these dances.” He hasn’t competed on the show since 2017, so it is a huge accomplishment to come back and win right out of the gate.

Why Mark Ballas Deserves Credit For Charli's DWTS Win
Image
It was not a surprise that Charli D'Amelio won Dancing with the Stars season 31, but fans think that her partner Mark Ballas deserves a lot of the credit for the win. He's been a competitive dancer for a decade, so viewers (as well as the season's judges) had high expectations for Charli. Luckily, she was able to exceed them with Mark as her partner. Although he'd only won the coveted Mirrorball Trophy twice before, he is known for his show-stopping choreography, and Charli's abilities helped him to shine as well.

From week 1, when the pair started off the season with the Cha Cha, they never scored below an eight out of ten from the judges. Reddit user u/Buddhabellymama made sure to praise Mark for his work, saying, "Mark Ballas deserves So Much Credit for knowing how to make her shine." Many DWTS fans think it is unfair to have...

Dancing With The Stars season 31 winner Mark Ballas returned to the show after a five-year hiatus, and, although he took home the Mirrorball Trophy with his partner Charli D'Amelio, he admits that he is unsure about coming back for season 32. Mark first joined the show in 2007 for DWTS season 5, and won the following season with his partner, Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi. He won again in season 8 with Olympic gymnast, Shawn Johnson. Mark stayed with the show until season 25 in 2017, when he placed second with his partner, violinist and composer Lindsey Stirling. During DWTS season 31, Mark was in first place on the leaderboard with Charli for all ten weeks of the competition.

In an interview with Us Weekly, Mark explained why he might not return to the show, despite his DWTS season 31 success with Charli. He admitted, "I don't know [if I'm coming back.] You know the older I get, I try to stay very present in the moment,...

Best friend goals: Mark Ballas joins Derek Hough in this exclusive ‘Dancing with the Stars’ club after Season 31 win
Image
It took a while, but Derek Hough finally has some company and it’s fitting that it’s from his Bff. Thanks to his win on Monday’s Season 31 finale with Charli D’Amelio, Mark Ballas has joined Hough as the only pros with at least three Mirrorball trophies on “Dancing with the Stars.”

Hough, of course, holds the record at six wins, so Ballas still has some ways to go, but this was a big hump to get over as a third win has been elusive for the pros. Before Monday, six pros had been stuck at two victories: Ballas, Cheryl Burke (who retired on the finale), Julianne Hough, Kym Johnson, Peta Murgatroyd and Val Chmerkovskiy. Julianne Hough and Johnson have long left the show, but Ballas, Burke and Chmerkovskiy have frequently made finals over the years only to come up short in the quest for three. Chermkovskiy and his...

Will just-about-perfect Charli D’Amelio suffer ringer backlash on ‘Dancing with the Stars’?
Image
There was a funny moment on “Dancing with the Stars” on “Michael Buble Night” when guest judge Buble told “Bachelorette” star Gabby Windey that she was so good he wondered if she had previous dance experience. She sheepishly confirmed that she worked as a professional cheerleader in the past. It’s no secret that some of the “amateur” dancers who come onto “DWTS” are less amateur than others, and for no one is that the case more than Charli D’Amelio., who was a competitive dancer for over 10 years. Could that backfire against the TikTok star?

Any celeb has good reason to want to downplay their prior experience on “DWTS.” There have been shocking early eliminations in recent years of stars who might have been perceived to be ringers, like eighth-place Heather Morris in season 24 and 10th-place Tinashe in season 27. Other celebs with pre-established skills have gotten far in the competition but not won,...

Will one of these ‘Dancing with the Stars’ pros Finally win a 3rd Mirror Ball Trophy?
Image
“Dancing with the Stars” judge Derek Hough holds the record for the most championships among professional dancers. He won the Mirror Ball Trophy six times over the course of his run on the show. That’s even more remarkable when you consider that no other pro dancer on the show has ever won more than two. It’s unlikely that anyone will come close to that record before the show ultimately runs its course — whenever that will be — but this season there are multiple double winners who could finally achieve that elusive hat trick.

See‘Dancing with the Stars’: Jordin Sparks and Wayne Brady are early front-runners for Mirror Ball Trophy

Cheryl Burke was the first double winner the show ever had, prevailing in season two with singer Drew Lachey and season three with football star Emmitt Smith. But she hasn’t made it back to the winner’s...

‘Dancing with the Stars 30’: Everything to know about the 2021 season of ‘DWTS’
Image
“Dancing with the Stars” will hoof its way to its 30th season this fall. Who would’ve thought 16 years ago that this little six-week summer show would make it to the big 3-0? But here we are. Scroll down for everything we know about the milestone installment so far.

Debuting in 2005, “DWTS” pairs an amateur celebrity contestant with a professional dance partner who teaches them routines in styles ranging from waltz to salsa to contemporary. Those dances are scored by a panel of judges, but those scores only make up half of the results. Who advances to the next round — and who ultimately wins the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy — is half determined by the judges’ scores and half by the votes of viewers watching at home.

I didn’t really even know I was gonna make it past like week one, so I ended up falling in love with it and really getting competitive with it. It was great experience.”

Elizabeth Smart wasn’t interested at first in appearing on Fox’s “The Masked Dancer.” But after her grandmother passed away, Smart said she had an epiphany.

Johnny Weir finally breaks through on ‘Dancing with the Stars’ with this ‘Mulan’ rumba inspired by his family [Watch]
Image
Even before “Dancing with the Stars” began its 29th season, figure skater Johnny Weir seemed like a natural front-runner, but it took him a while to find his footing in the ballroom. He finally had a breakthrough on “Disney Night,” though, going from the middle of the pack to the top of the judges’ leaderboard. Watch his game-changing rumba above.

Weir has a lot to live up to. He’s an Olympic figure skater like three previous Mirror Ball champions: Kristi Yamaguchi, Meryl Davis and Adam Rippon. And he has a vibrant, outgoing personality like Rippon that, on paper, made him seem like an almost inevitable champion. However, he didn’t seem quite as comfortable as his predecessors in his first couple of weeks. His season premiere cha cha scored straight 6s from the judges for a total of 18 out of 30. His second-week tango got the exact same scores. Both...

Who will win ‘Dancing with the Stars’ season 29? Make your predictions now!
Image
On September 2 “Dancing with the Stars” announced the celebrities who will compete for the Mirror Ball Trophy in season 29. And now you can predict who will win the competition series. You can place your bets here in our predictions center now and every week until a champion is crowned this fall. You can also bet on who will be eliminated, who will get the highest scores and who will get the lowest scores.

It’s tricky to forecast the winner this early. After all, the competition hasn’t even started yet. But we can get some hints about the potential of some celebs based on the history of “DWTS.” For instance, football players often make the finals, and four of them have won, so this year’s NFL alum, Super Bowl champion Vernon Davis, must immediately be considered a force to be reckoned with.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ cast for season 29: These are the 15 ‘DWTS’ contestants vying for the Mirror Ball Trophy
Image
“Dancing with the Stars” announced its season 29 celebrities on September 2. So who are the contestants vying for the Mirror Ball Trophy when the season premieres on September 14? Scroll down to see the complete list.

You’ve always got to watch out for athletes, who have a long tradition of winning “DWTS.” Super Bowl champion Vernon Davis is hoping to become the fifth NFL star to take home the grand prize, following Emmitt Smith, Hines Ward, Donald Driver and Rashad Jennings. But coming from such a strong tradition of gridiron dancers can be a double-edged sword because it raises expectations from the very beginning.

Also with high expectations will be Johnny Weir, a figure skater who won three US Nationals titles, medaled once at the World Championships and competed at the Olympics twice. He would be the fourth figure skater to prevail on “DWTS,” following Kristi Yamaguchi, Meryl Davis and Adam Rippon.

“Dancing with the Stars” can be hazardous to your health. To compete on “DWTS,” celebrities have to train with their pro partners to learn brand new routines every single week.
