Film Review: Part Time Detective 2 (2004) by Takashi Miike

“Part-Time Detective” is a Japanese TV drama series broadcast as part of the “Women, Love, and Mystery” programming block, co-produced by TV Tokyo and Bs Japan between 2002 and 2004. It consists of two feature-length episodes, with Keiko Matsuzaka playing the titular lead in both.

As in the first movie, Noriko Yamada (45), an ordinary housewife, lives with her husband Kazuo (50), who works at a bank, their son Kotaro (22), and their daughter Sumire (17). When Kazuo’s salary is cut due to the recession, Noriko once again accepts part-time work at the K&d Research detective agency, run by Jin Hibino.

At the same time, a request comes in from Rie Odajima, a career woman employed at the major restaurant chain Sunrise Dining. She reports being the target of harassment, including hidden camera photos and videos being sent to her and her locker being ransacked,...
