Biography

    • Michael Woolson led a successful career in film and television for ten years, working alongside some of the industry's most prestigious players. During that time, he studied his craft with world-renowned acting coach Larry Moss. Following a decade of work in front of the camera, Michael realized his true passion as an acting coach. In 1998, he developed a course for the UCLA Extension Program and was invited by Larry Moss to join the elite team of coaches at Moss' studio. After four years at the Larry Moss Studio, Michael founded the Michael Woolson Studio. Located adjacent to Beverly Hills, the studio and theatre provide a venue in which he conducts classes and directs highly acclaimed theatrical productions. Some of Michael's directorial endeavors include Neil LaBute's The Shape of Things, produced by Danny Devito, Jonathan Marc Sherman's Women & Wallace, and John Patrick Shanley's 4 Dogs & A Bone. Early in his acting career, Michael co-starred in the film Alive and worked directly with Shanley, who had written the screenplay. Distinguished writer/director, David Mamet, said of Michael's direction, "excellent - not one false note." As a teacher/director, he has worked with thousands of actors from talented up-and- comers to high-profile celebrities. His staff includes three other coaches who lead a variety of group classes held at his theatre. He also coaches privately from his home as well as on film and television sets. In a relatively short span of time, Michael Woolson has become one of the most prominent and respected acting coaches in Los Angeles. He is recognized for his unique ability to cultivate depth and authenticity from his students in an environment that is nurturing and inspiring.
