A long-forgotten, and underrated, action movie starring Blade’s Wesley Snipes and Hollywood icon Tommy Lee Jones is headed to free streaming. Released back in 1998, the action thriller outing U.S. Marshals is, in fact, a sequel to the 90s Harrison Ford action classic The Fugitive, and finds another wrongly accused man on the run from Jones’ unrelenting Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal, Samuel Gerard. This time, instead of chasing Indiana Jones, Gerard must deal with The Daywalker.
Directed by Stuart Baird and written by John Pogue, U.S. Marshals finds Snipes’ federal fugitive Mark Roberts on the run...and possessing his own particular set of skills. After outsmarting a smoke monster, tolerating Sawyer’s shenanigans, and appearing in a handful of films and TV series since Lost left the air, Matthew Fox will return to screens for The Assassin, a drama series from writer-producer John Glenn (Seal Team). The project, in development at Max, finds Fox leading the charge.
John Glenn wrote The Assassin script based on the book series by British novelist Tom Wood. The Assassin focuses on a cunning assassin known only as Victor (Fox), who, after being betrayed by an anonymous client, finds himself relentlessly hunted by CIA operatives and a contract killer who’s as good at making people disappear as he is. Victor must look inside himself to find his humanity in an impossible situation. Only then can he hope to identify his pursuer and confront the dangers ahead.
Victor appears in eleven novels and two short stories written by Wood.

Bad Boys: Ride or Die takes the franchise in new directions, mirroring the plot of U.S. Marshals. Mike and Marcus become fugitives working with Mike's son, pursued by federal agents. Joe Pantoliano's connection between U.S. Marshals and Bad Boys highlights the franchise link.
Bad Boys: Ride or Die takes the franchise in a variety of different directions, and part of the story copies a sequel to Harrison Ford's The Fugitive. As the fourth entry in the Bad Boys series, the movie follows somewhat of the same formula that has made the films so successful. This includes leaning into the buddy-cop dynamic between Will Smith and Martin Lawrence that has helped define the Bad Boys movies. But, Bad Boys: Ride or Die's story does take the franchise down a fresh path by making Mike Lowrey and Marcus Burnett wanted men working with Mike's son.

When Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert sat down at the end of 1993 to pick their 10 favorite movies of the year, they largely selected prestige, Oscar-bait films like The Piano, The Age of Innocence, The Joy Luck Club, and Schindler’s List. They skipped nearly all of the big multiplex hits of the year, including Jurassic Park, Sleepless in Seattle, and Mrs. Doubtfire, making an exception only for The Fugitive. It’s an honor they didn’t give to Die Hard in 1988, The Terminator in 1984, Aliens in 1986, or many other great action movies of the VHS era.

It's probably fair to say that when "The Fugitive" came out in 1993, people weren't exactly demanding a big screen version of the '60s show; even the director and star said they'd never seen it. Even so, the gripping, intelligent thriller for grown-ups became a box office smash and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Picture, the first TV adaptation to compete for the big prize.
The movie was a satisfyingly old-school nail-biter with its fair share of spectacular set pieces, but the highlight was the battle of wits between two very human opponents. Harrison Ford, just a few years after riding into the sunset as Indiana Jones, played a far more down-to-earth protagonist as a grieving doctor framed for his wife's murder, while Tommy Lee Jones won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor as the dogged lawman on his trail.

Baz Luhrmann’s sixth feature film, “Elvis,” has been out for a few weeks now, and it hasn’t been doing bad in terms of the domestic box office, where it’s already surpassed most of Luhrmann’s movies, other than 2013’s “The Great Gatsby.” With the caveat that we have only just crossed the midway point of the year, it still seems like a good time to look at the “Elvis” Oscars potential.
Let’s start with Luhrmann himself, because believe it or not, the Australian visionary has only been nominated for a single Oscar, for producing his 2001 masterpiece “Moulin Rouge!” That’s Luhrmann’s most successful movie with the academy, receiving eight Oscar nominations and winning two for Luhrmann’s wife Catherine Martin‘s costumes and production design, but it also went on to inspire a Broadway musical which won 10 Tony Awards 20 years after the original movie’s success.
