There are many, many ways that pop-culture fans have discovered shapeshifting rocker/actor Michael Des Barres over the decades. Some may know him from his big-screen debut at age 17 in the 1967 Sidney Poitier film To Sir, With Love; or as the frontman of the Deep Purple- and Led Zeppelin-associated bands Silverhead and Detective; or as the cowriter of Animotion’s 1983 hit “Obsession”; or as the longtime host of the Little Steven’s Underground Garage morning show on SiriusXM; or as iconic MacGyver villain Murdoc; or for his many other television appearances on shows like Roseanne, Seinfeld, Melrose Place, Northern Exposure, Frasier, and Nip/Tuck.

More than 50 years after first forming in Birmingham, England, Ozzy Osbourne and his pioneering metal band Black Sabbath are finally ready to retire from playing and making music.
Osbourne and his manager wife Sharon planned a grand culmination of sorts, gathering the biggest names in rock and metal to pay homage to the band’s influence during an all-day celebration and livestreamed event. Other seminal groups have been guilty of going back on their word after calling it quits, but Saturday’s show felt like both the band and the music community put (a very heavy) lid on the band’s legacy, and it was filled with love.
Titled “Back to the Beginning,” the 10 hour concert was held at Villa Park, just miles from where Osbourne and his mates grew up. It featured a stellar announced line-up and plenty of surprises courtesy of musical director Tom Morello (Rage Against the...

A second superjam at the “Back to the Beginning” final Black Sabbath concert in Birmingham on Saturday (July 5th) featured an all-star roster of musicians, including Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler, Sammy Hagar, Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Ghost’s Papa V Perpetua, and more.
Corgan joined Tom Morello for covers of Judas Priest’s “Breaking the Law” and Black Sabbath’s “Snowblind.” Hagar sang Ozzy’s “Flying High Again,” while Ghost’s Papa performed Ozzy’s “Bark at the Moon. Tyler was joined by The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood for “Train Kept a Rollin,” and stayed onstage for a medley of “Walk This Way” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love.” Tyler’s appearance was especially notable as the Aerosmith frontman has been largely sidelined from performing since suffering a vocal injury in late 2023.

“Today, the world lost a genius, and I lost a cousin by blood and my partner in music,” wrote Love. “Brian Wilson wasn’t just the heart of The Beach Boys—he was the soul of our sound. The Rolling Stones have reportedly shelved a forthcoming U.K. and European tour planned for 2025. According to The Times, the rock band has scrapped the idea of hitting the road later this year.
The report says that the group — Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, and Ronnie Wood — was presented with several offers for shows over the summer but dismissed them due to logistical issues surrounding the venues and travel, as well as preexisting commitments.
The shows included a “proposed multimillion-pound visit to Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium,” which the band members rejected.

Legendary English singer Marianne Faithfull has died at the age of 78.
According to a statement from her family, Faithfull “passed away peacefully” on Thursday, January 30th. A cause of death was not immediately disclosed.
A defining voice of the 1960s, Faithfull first rose to fame with the song “As Tears Go By,” which was written for her by The Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. She proceeded to release several more hit singles throughout the decade, but her career became largely overshadowed by her tumultuous personal life, which included a high-profile relationship with Jagger and battles with addiction. Several of The Rolling Stones’ songs were apparently inspired by Jagger and Faithfull’s relationship, including “You Can’t Always Get What You Want,” “Wild Horses,” and “Sister Morphine.”
Jagger remembered Faithfull in a statement released shortly after her passing, writing: “She was so much part of my life for so long.

Back in the Eighties and Nineties, the release of a major rock star memoir was a fairly uncommon event. Noteworthy ones like George Harrison’s I, Me, Mine (1980), Iggy Pop’s I Need More (1982), and David Lee Roth’s Crazy From the Heat (1997) popped up every once in a while, but it wasn’t until the 2000s that this genre started making regular appearances on The New York Times bestseller list, thanks to landmark works like Anthony Kiedis’ Scar Tissue, Bob Dylan’s Chronicles: Volume One, Eric Clapton’s The Autobiography,...

It’s a little hard to say how popular the series Trailer Park Boys is. It went for twelve seasons and this is the fourth movie spin-off, all in the space of over twenty years. Not many shows have been quite as prolific as that. But. I have met very few people who have watched the show and I see very little talk about it online. I am a fan of the show and have been for a good while. Although in truth, it’s been a long time since I’ve opened up my DVD boxset. When I discovered a new movie was out though, I jumped at the chance to see it.

Paul McCartney closed out his Got Back Tour on Thursday night at London’s O2 and took the opportunity to reunite with his Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr. During the performance, his last gig of the year, McCartney also introduced the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood and played an old bass guitar that was returned to him earlier this year after being stolen.
Starr joined McCartney during the encore. “We’ve got another surprise for you,” McCartney told the audience. “Bring to the stage the mighty, the one and only Mr. Ringo Starr.

Surviving Beatles members Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr reunited for a rare on-stage performance at the O2 Arena in London on Thursday, as the two teamed up to play “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)” and “Helter Skelter.”
The surprise reunion came during the encore of McCartney’s concert. “Should we rock?” McCartney asked Starr after welcoming him to the stage. “Get on your kit lah!”
Following their two-song performance, Starr remarked, “I’m off now but I’ve had a great night, love you all – especially this man.” McCartney added, “It’s fantastic, playing with me old mate, but there comes a time when we’ve got to go home.”
Thursday’s show also featured an appearance from The Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood, who joined McCartney for a performance of “Get Back.”

“Anybody that causes a prison riot singing about whores and cats, that’s my guy!” quips Billy Bob Thornton (Sling Blade), in Standing on the Shoulders of Kitties: The Bubbles and The Shitrockers Story, a film with one of the most bloated movie titles to arrive in recent memory. The plot of this quirky comedy may not be as consistently amusing, but there’s still spunk in this offbeat tale about a frenzied Canadian band that finds themselves opening for Thornton’s band during a European tour.
To be sure, this film may work best for diehard fans of the hit Canadian TV show, Trailer Park Boys, and/or the real-life band featured in it, Bubbles and The Shitrockers. Still, if you’re a Borat fan and a lover of silly comedies or films about beleaguered bands, this film is for you. For others, it’s amusing enough and a...

The Rolling Stones brought out Tyler Childers in Orlando on Monday night, June 3, for a special performance of their Sticky Fingers classic “Dead Flowers.”
Childers upped the number of guitars onstage to at least four, strumming his acoustic guitar to match Mick Jagger’s while Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards (as always) traded licks on electric. Few bands have contributed music to as many great films as The Rolling Stones. The iconic rock band, hailed as one of the greatest of all-time, dominated pop culture throughout the 1960s, and the group continues to be popular today. Songs like “Sympathy For The Devil,” “Sweet Virginia,” “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” and “Emotional Rescue” have been used countless times in movies, television shows, and trailers. For instance, Stanley Kubrick notably used "Paint It Black" in Full Metal Jacket. But there’s one director that has a particular affinity for the music of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, and their former bandmates. Martin Scorsese has sampled The Rolling Stones throughout his filmography, but one film’s use of one of their most beloved songs created one of the most iconic moments in his entire filmography.

South Park: Snow Day! changes from RPG to arena fighter, but disappoints fans and critics with lackluster combat and comedy. A lack of small-town realism felt throughout the show's long run is one of the game's biggest disappointments. Players and critics alike find Snow Day short, repetitive, lacking exploration, and recommend waiting for a sale to purchase.
South Park: Snow Day! is the most recent entry in the rejuvenated South Park video game series, which began with 2014's The Stick of Truth and was followed by 2017's The Fractured But Whole. Unfortunately, whereas the previous titles were extremely well received upon their release, parodying the fantasy and superhero genres with the series' trademark sense of humor and 2D animation that made them feel like extended episodes of the show, South Park: Snow Day! has not had as much acclaim.

An animated video for Mark Knopfler’s all-star charity single “Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)” – which brought together a stunning lineup of over 60 guitar gods to raise funds for Teen Cancer America and the Teenage Cancer Trust – has been released. It features the final recording of Jeff Beck along with contributions by Bruce Springsteen, David Gilmour, Slash, Ronnie Wood, Joan Jett, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Sting.
The song came out a week ago, but it was difficult to discern who was playing what part throughout the ten-minute song.

Mark Knopfler has teamed up with a host of fellow guitar legends to record a version of his song “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
The Dire Straits frontman tapped Eric Clapton, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Brian May (Queen), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Pete Townshend (The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Joan Jett, and many more, forming what he has dubbed “Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes.” Notably, the star-studded version opens with the final recorded guitar track by the late Jeff Beck.
Knopfler’s longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher handled the production of the track, which might be the greatest assemblage of guitar talent to co-exist on a single song. The Sgt. Pepper‘s-style artwork was created by Sir Peter Blake.

South Park: Snow Day! is a departure from previous games, focusing on replayability and real-time updates from the show.
