- American character actor, in films from 1919. Usually played impeccably-dressed, suave 'other men', rivaling the star for the affections of the heroine. Also an effective foil in silent comedy, notably for Buster Keaton in Frigo l'esquimau (1922). Wood remained a busy supporting player in ever-diminishing roles throughout the 30's and 40's.
