The MonsterVerse has been enormously successful on the big screen over the years, but the most recent addition to the franchise, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, is also making waves on the world's top streaming service. The film, which was released on March 29, 2024, is currently ranked third on Netflix's streaming chart, trailing only Taron Egerton's Carry-On and Kerry Washington's The Six Triple Eight.
The Hollywood franchise began in 2014 with Godzilla starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and has since expanded into five feature films, a television series, and an animated show. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire remains the most commercially successful installment, grossing $571 million on a $150 million budget, followed closely by Kong: Skull Island ($568 million).
The fifth Monsterverse film has provided one of the best theatrical experiences in recent memory, with CGI playing out splendidly during the action sequences. Meanwhile, the Godzilla and Kong crossover sequel is also doing exceptionally well on Netflix,...

A polarizing MonsterVerse installment has been one of the most-watched movies on Netflix since Christmas Day. Earlier this year, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire debuted to mixed critical reviews but was financially successful, becoming the highest-grossing MonsterVerse film to date.
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is currently third on Netflix's Top 10 chart, only behind Carry-On and Kerry Washington's The Six Triple Eight. Directed by Adam Wingard, the film is a direct sequel to 2021's Godzilla x Kong and is the fifth film in the shared Monsterverse franchise. In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Kong encounters more of his species in the Hollow Earth and must again ally with Godzilla to stop the tyrannical Skar King and the powerful, frost-breathing Shimo from invading the Earth's surface. Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Kaylee Hottle all reprise their roles from the previous film and are joined by Dan Stevens,...

The Matrix Reloaded was part of a larger transmedia experiment that had the unfortunate effect of diminishing Jada Pinkett Smith's role. The original Matrix was such a pop culture-defining success that sequels were all but a certainty. What fans of the original couldn't have anticipated is just how divisive those follow-ups would be. Matrix Reloaded and Revolutions were both released in 2003 and while though boasted cutting-edge special effects and impressive action, they were also littered with ponderous dialogue, choppy plotting and anti-climatic endings. The sequels may not have fully delivered on expectations, but if nothing else, their ambition can be admired.
Sadly, the Matrix movies weren't much of a showcase of Jada Pinkett Smith either. Despite being hyped as a major new character and love interest for Laurence Fishburne's Morpheus, Smith's Niobe is largely offscreen for large chunks of both films. Niobe gets a slightly larger role in...

Actually the third installment in the series, since “No Risk, No Gain” followed the initial one, “Casino Raiders II” essentially uses gambling in order to present a melodramatic actioner, in a distinct Hk style.

Fresh faces lead the cast of the ABC and Fremantle Australia’s children’s comedy-drama The Pm’s Daughter, now shooting in Canberra.
Cassandra Helmot will play Cat Parkes Pérez, a young activist whose relatively normal teen life is thrown into disarray when political turmoil strikes and her mother (Claire Fearon) is unexpectedly thrust into the role of Prime Minister.
Major disruptions begin to occur at Canberra landmarks – all seemingly designed to directly sabotage the Pm. Cat and her new friends, Sadie (Natalie English) and Ollie, set out to track down and unmask a rogue faction within a youth action group called Action Uprising. The clues will take them across every inch of the capital and lead them to investigate even their own schoolmates.
Nya Cofie (The Unlisted) and Amelie James-Power also star as Cat’s classmates Miro and Georgina, joining an adult cast of Anthony Brandon Wong (The Family Law...

The Australian screen industry is experiencing a boom, with Australia being seen as an affordable and safe place to film. This presents a distinct opportunity, not just for the Australian economy, but for modernising an industry ripe for change that can better meet the needs of contemporary audiences moving forward.
Although it is great to have all these international productions coming to Australia, we must also strive to protect Australian content and the unique value proposition that our productions bring to the global stage.
“The government is providing a whole lot of money for film and television at the moment but it’s principally for the Hollywood productions, and I welcome the jobs that come with that, but if they can pay for Hollywood stories to be told here, they can sure as hell make sure your stories are funded too,” Shadow Minister for the Arts Tony Burke told the...

Writer-director Samuel Van Grinsven’s Sequin in a Blue Room is set to premiere in major overseas markets, a big achievement for the film he made as his graduate project in the Master of Arts Screen program at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (Aftrs) in 2018.
The US and UK rights to the queer coming-of-age tale produced by Aftrs graduate Sophie Hattch have been acquired by Peccadillo Pictures, a UK-based distributor of art house, gay and lesbian, independent and world cinema.
On-demand firm Salzgeber bought the film for German-speaking markets while Optimale has the rights in French-speaking territories.

The final season of Sbs’s The Family Law, the first series of ABC’s The Heights and the Sbs miniseries The Hunting have won the 10th annual Equity Ensemble Awards.
The actors who starred in these programs were voted the most outstanding Australian small screen ensembles in their respective categories by the Meaa Equity National Performers’ Committee (Npc).
Equity president Chloe Dallimore, who was among the 33 Npc members who selected this year’s finalists and winners, said: “I can’t think of a better way to spend lockdown than re-watching the incredible small screen performances of the last 12 months. What phenomenal talent we have in this country, both in front and behind the camera.
“It emphasised what’s at stake if we don’t continue to vigorously defend our local content quotas, and why we must continue to remind our government how the arts contribute to our Australian cultural identity.

.Elvis died on the toilet. Again.. The film may be rife with Elvis impersonators, but we also find somebody trying to impersonate Quentin Tarantino. The project may have attracted a game cast, featuring a hot blonde, but the results are not the fried peanut butter and banana sammich you may wanted. John Smith (Christian Slater) finds himself at an Indian casino run by the Chief (Gordon Tootoosis). If there.s one thing the Chief loves more than Elvis it.s his ancient tribal mask. The casino is running an Elvis impersonation contest which Smith places dead last in. Elvis Elvis (Gary Oldman) triumphs over Gay Elvis (Chris Kattan), Asian Elvis (Anthony Brandon Wong) and Midg. Haywire (2011) Film Review, a movie directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Gina Carano, Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano, Matthieu Kassovitz, Natascha Berg, Aaron Cohen, Maximino Arciniega, Tim Connolly, Anthony Brandon Wong, and Eddie J. Fernandez.
Haywire is an action film on a diet. The dietary aspect of the film, much like late 80’s and early 90’s action films, is one of expected and delivered simplicity. This is not necessarily a bad thing as some found the complexity of Brian De Palma’s Mission: Impossible detrimental. Unlike plot-heavy Salt and style-infused Hanna, Haywire can be summed up as: Guy grows jealous of girl, guy tries to kill girl, girl goes after guy.
There is a brutal, complicated swiftness to the first fight scene of Haywire that is never duplicated again in the film, not even in a later hotel room battle. What...

Haywire First 5-Minutes, Gina Carano Opening Fight Scene. Steven Soderbergh‘s Haywire (2011) first five minutes stars Gina Carano and Channing Tatum. The Haywire opening fight scene starts out one way then quickly turns towards the other but not because of what the viewer initially thinks. The scene has no cheesy fight music thus only the ambient sounds of the fight and the diner exist. I read a few people comment on Gina Carano’s acting on other sites but they seem to have forgotten two thing: 1.) She has never studied acting in her life, 2.) This is her first movie.
We previously posted the Haywire (2011) Movie Trailer.

Here’s your first official look at Gina Carano, the star of Steven Soderbergh’s spy-actioner “Haywire” (formerly “Knockout”), packing an Uzi and making a mean face as she sprays, one presumes, some bad dudes who had it coming. The plot has Carano playing Mallory Kane, a black ops spy who is double crossed and left for dead, forcing the gal to use all of her deadly skills to exact revenge on the men responsible. This, one presumes, involves her beating their brains in with her firsts of fury and flying knees. Check out the cast that Soderbergh has surrounded relative novice Carano with. Co-starring Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano, Mathieu Kassovitz, Eddie J. Fernandez, Anthony Wong, Tim Connolly, Maximino Arciniega, Julian Alcaraz, and Aaron Cohen. Blasting into theaters January 20,...

The New York Asian Film Festival has announced that its tenth anniversary edition will open on July 1 with the North American premiere of Yoshimasa Ishibashi's Milocrorze: A Love Story ("one solid slab of psychedelia," promises the festival; image above) and close on July 14 with the New York premiere of Na Hong-Jin's The Yellow Sea (aka The Murderer), which has just screened at Cannes in Un Certain Regard (see the roundup).
There'll be two Centerpiece Presentations, Benny Chan's Shaolin, with Andy Lau, Nic Tse and Jackie Chan, and Takashi Miike's Ninja Kids!!! — which, you may remember Danny Kasman caught in Cannes, and got quite a nice kick out of it, too. The Tribeca Film Festival has the stars. The New York Film Festival has the award winners. But the New York Asian Film Festival has the coolest, boldest, and strangest genre movies, and that's why it holds a special place in my heart. While most festivals specialize in quote-unquote arthouse fare, Nyaff brings the Asian mainstream -- the stuff that would almost never play here otherwise -- to America.
We're big fans of the Nyaff at IFC and we're looking forward to another excellent edition this year. The lineup was just announced and it looks stacked. It includes a few superb films I saw at last year's Fantastic Fest, including the entertaining exploitation documentary "Machete Maidens Unleashed" from "Not Quite Hollywood" director Mark Hartley. The stuff I'm jazzed to see for the first time includes the world premiere of Takashi Miike's "Ninja Kids!!!" (their exclamation points, not mine), "Ocean Heaven,...
