Lead singer of former J. Geils.

Roomed with David Lynch in college, but Lynch kicked him out, saying he was "too weird". Ironic, isn't it?

His grandmother was an actress in Yiddish theater. His father performed on the vaudeville circuit.

He left the J. Geils in 1983 after his bandmates refused to record songs he had composed with outside writers (previously he had co-written only with keyboardist/producer Seth Justman). Those songs later formed the basis for his Top 10 debut solo album, "Lights Out". Meanwhile, the album J.Geils released without him flopped. They disbanded shortly afterwards.

His uncles fought in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade [American anti-Fascist volunteers] during the Spanish Civil War.

Saw one of the last two performances by Woody Guthrie when he was a child.
