- Lead singer of former J. Geils.
- Roomed with David Lynch in college, but Lynch kicked him out, saying he was "too weird". Ironic, isn't it?
- His grandmother was an actress in Yiddish theater. His father performed on the vaudeville circuit.
- He left the J. Geils in 1983 after his bandmates refused to record songs he had composed with outside writers (previously he had co-written only with keyboardist/producer Seth Justman). Those songs later formed the basis for his Top 10 debut solo album, "Lights Out". Meanwhile, the album J.Geils released without him flopped. They disbanded shortly afterwards.
- His uncles fought in the Abraham Lincoln Brigade [American anti-Fascist volunteers] during the Spanish Civil War.
- Saw one of the last two performances by Woody Guthrie when he was a child.
