A new video from The Rookieseason 8 reveals the reason why Nolan, Bailey, and the team are in Europe. With filming underway on season 8, Jenna Dewan shared photos and videos on her Instagram page that revealed part of the show's cast and crew are filming in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic.
It marks the first time that the police procedural is filming overseas. And even though The Rookie season 8 won't be back on ABC until sometime next year, we might have a better sense of what John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and Bailey Nune (Dewan) are doing abroad in the first place.
In a TikTok from justmimi__, the fan shares her excitement about meeting Fillion in Prague. But a closer look at what's happening in the background reveals that John and Bailey are with the recurring antagonist Monica Stevens (played by Bridget Regan), and they could be arresting her.

Two years after The Rookie: Feds, ABC is ready to give the Nathan Fillion-led The Rookie another spinoff. The proposed spinoff has just received an official title as well as a major development update.
Per Deadline, the new spinoff is currently titled The Rookie North and has "been gaining momentum for a pilot order" from ABC. However, that would only happen once the lead role, described as a male in his 40s-50s, has been cast, with Deadline noting that a handful of known actors have already been approached for the role. The Rookie North is one of several projects in serious pilot consideration at ABC for the 2025-26 season, along with the Scrubs reboot, the Rachel Bloom-led Do You Want Kids?, and the comedy Mittens.
Of those four projects, one will make it to pilot and join 9-1-1: Nashville as the only new scripted series on ABC's 2025-26 schedule.

The Rookieseason 8 gets an exciting update from creator and showrunner Alexi Hawley, who teases positive news for its most exciting couple. The police procedural won't be back on ABC until next year. But the cast and crew are hard at work, prepping new episodes, including that The Rookie season 8 has been filming overseas.
While there are several questions about what the new season will mean for the fan-favorite pairing of Tim (Eric Winter) and Lucy (Melissa O'Neil), another on-screen duo has been building support. Rodge, played by Hawley's son, Zander Hawley, and Celina (Lissbeth Chavez) could be in store for a big year ahead.
In an update from TVLine, Hawley addressed the future of Celina and Rodge. Although he acknowledged that happy couples don't always result in the most dramatic plots, he did note that the chemistry between the actors is strong and there will be an effort to keep it going:

ABC's hit police procedural drama, The Rookie, is currently in production and filming its eighth season has begun. Showrunner Alexi Hawley is currently crafting new stories that will have us hooked on the officers in the Mid-Wilshire division. One of the recurring and captivating stories for several seasons now has been the romance between Lucy Chen, played by Melissa O'Neil, and her long-term love interest, Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), in the romantic union we've come to affectionately know as Chenford. Despite their clear appeal, Hawley has been able to craft other love dynamics throughout the show, including one between Officer Celina Juarez (Lisseth Chavez) and her musician boyfriend, Rodge (Zander Hawley).
Zander is the son of series showrunner Alexei, and his character became somewhat of a nuisance to Nathan Fillion's John Nolan, after the musician wrote and recorded a song about him called "Daddy Cop" with his band. Despite John's disapproval of the musician,...

ABC’s The Rookie is not your average police procedural. First airing in 2018, the show follows John Nolan (Nathan Fillion), a 40-year-old man who becomes the oldest rookie in the LAPD. Inspired by a real-life story, the series mixes crime-solving drama with the challenges of late-in-life career reinvention. Over the course of seven seasons, The Rookie has evolved from Nolan’s rookie journey into a wider ensemble-driven narrative, diving into partnerships, department politics, and personal lives across the LAPD.
Created by Alexi Hawley (Castle), the series has been consistent with its blend of character-driven drama and procedural beats. From standoffs and stakeouts to romantic entanglements and internal affairs investigations, each season builds on the last, expanding the emotional depth and range of its characters. With Season 8 officially greenlit, there’s renewed interest in where the story is headed and who’s returning.

The Rookie has been a successful hit for ABC for seven seasons now and the character of officer Lucy Chen, played by Melissa O'Neil, has been one of the show's most successful. While Season 7 wasn't the perfect one for Lucy, it did see the character change for the better in several areas of her life. The police procedural drama is headed into its eighth season, which means new and evolving storylines for the individuals who make up the LAPD. Chen had a busy seventh season, earning her promotion to Sergeant and moving on to the night shift. She also seems on the pathway to reunification with her long-term love interest, Tim Bradford (Eric Winter). So, what might we expect from Lucy in Season 8?
Lucy's career took a massive step forward as she earned some new stripes. Her career advancement suggests some very intense action sequences involving our newly minted sergeant are likely on the way.

While this means the wait time will be longer, there is some exciting news to warm the heart. Deric Augustine, who joined the show in Season 7 and plays Miles Penn on the ABC procedural, has dropped a BTS image confirming that Season 8 is officially in production. It's coming. James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film has been in development for sometime now and is set to provide the launch pad for Gunn's new Dcu. Throughout its entire production, Gunn's Superman has been compared with the DC films made by Zack Snyder. One of the stark differences to note, and a good one at that, is Gunn's decision to include Guy Gardner's Green Lantern. This is the first time a Green Lantern is appearing in a live-action project since 2011's Green Lantern, and the first time the character of Guy Gardner has had a major role in a live-action feature film. Bringing to life the ring-wielding superhero is The Rookie's Nathan Fillion, who will portray Gardner.
Gardner will be joined by Mister Terrific and David Corenswet's Superman in a bid to defend Earth from those who would wish her harm. Recently released promotional material has...

The Chenford romance is one of, if not, the most beloved relationships in the long-running police procedural, The Rookie. While Bailey (Jenna Dewan) and John Nolan's (Nathan Fillion) marriage has its own appeal, the dynamic between Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) has seen fans of the show embark on a roller-coaster ride for a number of seasons now. By the time Season 7 ended, the couple had reunited romantically after their breakup in Season 6, and Richard T. Jones, who plays Sergeant Grey, has teased how this might affect the couple's relationship with their superior.
Grey had always been on the side of Chen, and the glee and pride were exceedingly evident when he presented Chen with news of her promotion. The officer had also cultivated a close relationship with Bradford, so when he received word the pair were casually seeing each other again, it threw him off.

The Rookie isn’t letting up. Season 8 is bringing back its most calculating villain, and this time, she’s untouchable. Having slipped through every trap, this nemesis has now leveled up with serious protection, making her harder to take down than ever.
What’s coming next? Well, with justice slipping further out of reach, one can expect more mind games, more manipulation, and a whole lot of rage from the team. If you thought last season was wild, S8 is out to mess with your head.

Season 7 of The Rookie was packed with many subplots to keep audiences engaged. The return of Jason Wyler (Steve Kazee), Bailey's (Jenna Dewan) abusive and criminal ex-husband, meant that for a time period, John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and his wife were caught in the eye of a violent storm. The introduction of new recruits, Miles Penn (Deric Augustine) and Seth Ridley (Patrick Keleher), meant the chance to explore new stories with Seth's compulsion to lie a key part of the season's storyline. Among this and other subplots, the writers and showrunner Alexi Hawley also had to craft out some space for Chenford's romance to be explored.

The Rookie Season 7 has ended its run and in setting up its eighth season, big villains like Monica Stevenson (Bridget Regan) and Oscar Hutchinson (Matthew Glave) were released. While that poses significant threats on various levels to the LAPD officers at Mid-Wilshire, some audience members would be more concerned with the state of the relationship between Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter). While the pair had slowly worked their way back to each other over the course of the season, Chenford ended the season still not officially a couple. Despite Tim's heartfelt speech at the end, that relationship still hangs in the balance as Lucy heard none of it, being fast asleep. So, what does Season 8 hold for the couple?

The Rookie has ended its run for Season 7 and there was much to unpack in the final episode. The ABC procedural will be returning for an eighth season, and the season finale for Season 7 seems to be setting up potential storylines. By the end of the episode, Lucy Chen (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim Bradford's (Eric Winter) relationship, Chenford, were still not officially a couple. To wash down that disappointment, the episode ends with the return of the notorious villain, Monica Stevenson (Bridget Regan). The villainous character walked past a stunned team at the Mid-Wilshire station as FBI Agent Matt Garza (Felix Solis) makes the announcement.

“The Rookie” Season 7 came to a close Tuesday night with an action-packed finale that, in classic “Rookie” fashion, left us with a big cliffhanger as we head into Season 8.
Back from her big international escape at the end of Season 6, lawyer-turned-baddie Monica (Bridget Regan) strutted back into the lives of the Mid-Wilshire crew with moments to spare in the Season 7 finale — now with immunity, after she leveraged highly-classified intel to make a deal.
Before we got to the big cliffhanger, Nolan came to life-or-death blows with Oscar (Matthew Glave) after the escaped convict abducted him. They both managed to make it out alive thanks to some quick work by Nyla (Mekia Cox), who recruited a kid with a drone to save the day, but not before taking heavy fire from Oscar’s ride — a helicopter that rained down gunfire while shepherding the longtime antagonist out of the law’s grasp once again.

Spoiler Alert: The story includes details about the Season 7 finale of ABC’s The Rookie.
Chenford is (almost) back together. After a season of post-breakup heartache, casual hookups and truth serum-induced confessions, The Rookie‘s fan favorite couple took a giant step to reconciliation in the finale, which only physical exhaustion prevented from completion.
Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim (Eric Winter) faced one last obstacle after she became his peer by passing the Sergeant exam — working on opposite schedules as she was assigned the night shift. Both needed some encouragement from friends but finally got together. Tim cooked Lucy breakfast after her shift and poured his heart out in a speech asking her to move in with him to no response as Lucy had quickly dozed off. As Tim said to himself while covering Lucy with a blanket, “To be continued.”

Tim cooked Lucy breakfast after her shift and poured his heart out in a speech asking her to move in with him to no response as Lucy had quickly dozed off. As Tim said to himself while covering Lucy with a blanket, “To be continued.”

Note: This article has spoilers for “The Rookie” through Season 7, Episode 18: “The Good, the Bad, and the Oscar.”
If you were hoping to see “The Rookie” duo Lucy Chen (Melissa O’Neil) and Tim Bradford (Eric Winter) back together in full swing by the end of Season 7, you might have been surprised to find that the finale left things a bit inconclusive. What’s more, fans are going to have to wait until 2026 to get their resolution after ABC announced Tuesday at Upfronts that the series will once again make a midseason return.
But don’t take it as a sign of doom or further disrepair for the fan-favorite couple’s romance (dubbed #Chenford by the passionate fandom). In fact, series creator Alexi Hawley sees it as a “super happy ending” for the pair, who slowly re-built the foundation of their relationship throughout Season 7 after Tim blew it all up...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Rookie Season 7 finale “The Good, the Bad, and the Oscar.”] Well, the title of The Rookie Season 7 finale certainly is apt. In fact, you can break down the major parts of the episode in those three categories. The good: Chenford is so close to getting back together. Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) arrives home exhausted from working the night shift — the Dream Team? Cops who park their cars and take naps — to find Tim (Eric Winter) cooking for her. He’s talking about them getting back together and taking next steps (moving in together!) only for her to fall asleep. The Oscar: Matthew Glave does return as the villain and even kidnaps Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and threatens to kill him, but Nyla (Mekia Cox) comes to his rescue, with the help of a teen and his drone. Oscar flees. And the bad? Well, that’s Monica (Bridget Regan), who’s revealed...

Savor this week's episode of The Rookie because it will be a long while before new episodes air on ABC. The network revealed that the Nathan Fillion-led drama will not return until 2026 when presenting their fall lineup. This is the third year in a row in which The Rookie has been held off for a midseason premiere. When that happened this season, the network said it gave viewers the best viewing experience since there won't be big breaks between episodes like many Fall shows experience when the holiday season creeps up on them. This is not a huge cause for concern for fans, given that the network has already confirmed Season 8, but it will be a long wait. ABC has yet to reveal the specific return date.

ABC's acclaimed police procedural, The Rookie, is set for another spinoff after it was initially announced late last year. Months after its confirmation, the award-winning show's creator offers an encouraging progress report on where the spinoff stands.
Speaking with TV Insider, Hawley stated he's "hopeful" about the untitled spinoff's prospects as he and ABC executives have been going back and forth about the script. Though Hawley was coy regarding details and admitted the business of TV "is what it is," he shared his optimism about the show eventually seeing the light of day.
"There’s a script that I’ve been going back and forth with ABC about," he said. "They give notes and I do the work and I’m an ever-hopeful human being. And so I would love nothing more than to expand the universe and go make it. So we’ll see. I don’t know. I...

The future of The Rookie just got a major update ahead of its most important episode yet. Nathan Fillion’s new police procedural is due to air its next finale next week on Tuesday, May 13, and with seven solid seasons under its belt in seven years, fans are already curious about where the show is heading next. Things have been heating up on The Rookie for the last few weeks, particularly in the penultimate episode, which saw Angela (Alyssa Diaz) and Nyla (Mekia Cox) ask their mothers to help on a case while Wesley (Shawn Ashmore) is threatened. Collider’s Therese Lacson recently sat down for an interview with The Rookie showrunner Alexi Hawley, who revealed that the writer’s room for Season 8 is already underway, and also teased the conclusion of the parental storyline:

The penultimate episode of The Rookie Season 7 saw a big shake-up in the race for District Attorney with its tense storyline involving Ada Sean Del Monte (Michael Trucco). It appeared that Wesley Evers' (Shawn Ashmore) colleague was a strong contender to take the seat, until he was blackmailed with evidence of his son Logan's (Benjamin J. Young) drug addiction amid an ongoing case against a member of the Eastern Front gang. Things only get uglier when Sean decides to do the right thing and take his son to rehab, only for the gang to confront the pair and nearly kill Logan. Fearing for his family, the Ada ultimately decides to drop out of the race, leaving the field suddenly wide open for a new contender. That new contender, according to showrunner Alexi Hawley, might just be Wesley.

Much has happened in the seventh season of ABC's procedural drama, The Rookie, and now the show is set to unfurl its season finale episode next Tuesday. The Rookie Season 7, Episode 17, "Mutiny and the Bounty," premiered this past Tuesday, and among other story threads was Lucy Chen's (Melissa O'Neil) sergeant exams. It was an episode that ended with a joyous Lucy and a proud Tim Bradford (Eric Winter), as both halves of Chenford enjoy a win together. For the Season 7 finale of ABC's procedural drama The Rookie, the show brings back one of its biggest villains. Oscar (Matthew Glave) has been antagonizing John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) for years and has been lying low since he broke out of prison in Season 6. "John and Harper (Mekia Cox) work together to catch Oscar; Angela (Alyssa Diaz) investigates a bank robbery; Lucy (Melissa O'Neil) and Tim (Eric Winter) learn to adapt to her new schedule, and Miles’ (Deric Augustine) first date takes an unexpected turn," the logline for The Rookie Season 7, Episode 18, "The Good, The Bad, and The Oscar" teases. ABC released a sneak peek of the episode airing next Tuesday, May 13, previewing several arcs the season-ender will tackle, including Lucy and Tim's situation, and Oscar's comeback.
The moment of truth arrives for Tim as, finally, he and Lucy can try making their relationship work without the existing dynamics that made it impossible.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Rookie Season 7 Episode 17 “Mutiny and the Bounty.”] Unsurprisingly, Lucy (Melissa O’Neil) had nothing to worry about when it came to the sergeant’s exam on The Rookie. But, in the Tuesday, May 6, episode, it took some time for her to find out her results. Her anxiety was already high before Tim (Eric Winter) told her that there was a delay and the results would be posted the day after they were supposed to be. Finally, when Grey (Richard T. Jones) posted the list and told her to breathe, she couldn’t look. Tim did for her, then told her to look. She not only passed — she was top of the list. Typical A student, he remarked, to be nervous that she’s going to fail even when she’s at the top of the class. Grey congratulated her and revealed she’d be able to use her new credentials right away.

The Rookie has proven to be one of ABC's most-loved shows, given its consistent viewership and a dedicated fan base. Unsurprisingly, ABC developed a spin-off in 2023, but for various reasons, The Rookie: Feds failed to move past Season 1. The network has reportedly been looking for another The Rookie spin-off with franchise boss Alexi Hawley at the helm. Apart from the initial announcement, much about it has remained a mystery. "I feel really good about the script. Ultimately, we’re waiting to hear what the needs are [at ABC], but I feel very positive about it," Hawley told TV Line when asked about the untitled spin-off's progress. However, The Recruit's creator cautioned against too much optimism given the fate that his Netflix drama met recently, saying:

The 2007 CBS TV series "Viva Laughlin" was a remake of the show "Blackpool," which ran on BBC One in the mid-2000s. In the British series, David Morrissey played Ripley Holden, a character who became embroiled in a murder in a local video arcade right when he was planning on transforming it into a hotel and casino. Georgia Taylor played Shyanne, Ripley's bratty daughter, while Sarah Parish portrayed Ripley's wife Natalie, and erstwhile "Doctor Who" star David Tennant played a cop who was convinced that Ripley was guilty. "Blackpool" ran for six episodes in 2004 and then returned for a 2006 TV movie titled "Viva Blackpool." The show's main selling point was that it featured multiple musical numbers in every episode. The works of Elvis Presley, Elvis Costello, Queen, Billy Idol, the Clash, and many others were crooned by the cast.
