How One Writer Hopes to Make Her Script the ‘Easiest Sell’ With a Y2K Nostalgia-Filled Table Read
Image
All her career, screenwriter Victoria Male has heard that having a great script was the most important thing she could do to give her work the best shot at getting made. That advice shifted in the midst of the pandemic and the strikes, with studios no longer willing to take bets on just any script.

“There’s … a lot of risk aversion, a lot of fear,” Male told TheWrap, pointing to words of a friend who works as a senior development executive at a U.K. production. “Now people aren’t trying to find the script that they can fight for and that will make their career — they’re just trying not to get fired.”

With a finger on the pulse of the industry, Male decided to take the odds for her feature script — a Y2K nostalgia-filled project titled “Whatever Happened to Baby J” — into her own hands by...

Tonys: Audra McDonald would be the 4th Rose in ‘Gypsy’ to win Best Actress in a Musical
Image
Audra McDonald is poised to make history... again.

According to Gold Derby's current predictions, the Broadway legend will win Best Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Rose in Gypsy at the 2025 Tony Awards. If she does, not only would it extend her acting record to seven trophies — she'd also be the fourth actress to have won for one of the most iconic leading roles in musical theater.

Of Gypsy's five prior Broadway outings, three of them won their stars the Tony: Angela Lansbury for the first revival in 1975, Tyne Daly for the second revival in 1990, and Patti LuPone for the previous revival in 2008. The only actresses to have lost a Tony race for their portrayals of Rose are Ethel Merman for the original production in 1960 (she lost to Mary Martin for The Sound of Music) and Bernadette Peters for the third revival in 2003 (she lost to Marissa Jaret Winokur...

Image
Sheryl Underwood, Amanda Kloots, Jerry O’Connell, Akbar Gbaja-Biamila and Natalie Morales bid farewell to “The Talk” on Friday as the CBS daytime show aired its series finale after 15 seasons.

Kloots, in particular, found herself tearing up over the emotional episode, as she offered a message to their loyal audience through tears.

“I live with a child, you know, so coming here every day and being able to talk to five, or four people, obviously — five, I’ll include you guys [the audience], cause you’re a part of it — about really fun, silly topics to important topics, but to be able to talk … I’m so grateful for that,” she shared. “I think we can’t forget that. Listen to each other, talk to one another, don’t fight with each other, really appreciate each other’s opinions, because that’s what we got to do everyday. And it was so beautiful.

‘The Talk’ Producer Previews the Series’ Final Live Show, Including a Tribute to the Hosts By Howie Mandel
Image
“The Talk” executive producer Rob Crabbe is getting a little too familiar with TV goodbyes. A year and a half after his previous talker, “The Late Late Show With James Corden,” signed off, he’s now doing the same thing on Friday with “The Talk.”

It’s a different kind of show, and therefore a different kind of goodbye. But still, there are similarities to the sign-off. “The emotional undercurrent of what the shows were trying to accomplish is the same,” Crabbe told Variety. “You’re trying to express joyfulness. You’re trying to make people feel something. And with ‘The Talk,’ we’re giving everybody a little break in their day, the routine of it. This is a respite in your day, where you can come and laugh and watch five people that really like each other have a really good time on television. That emotional currency will be...

Can ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ claim a trio of acting wins at the 2024 Tony Awards?
Image
The actors from the current revival of Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s “Merrily We Roll Along” have skyrocketed in Gold Derby’s combined odds for the 2024 Tony Awards nominations. The prediction center displays commanding leads for Jonathan Groff, Lindsay Mendez and Daniel Radcliffe to win their respective categories. This is an understandable result considering this revival is the hottest ticket in town and this trio of performers has been ever-present in the media. But how often does a trio of actors from the same production pull off three separate acting victories at the Tony Awards?

It’s quite common for a musical to grab two acting trophies, but three awards is much rarer. To date, only 15 musical productions have earned three acting wins. The first time this feat occurred was at the 1956 ceremony, which was ironically the first time the Tony Awards ever announced a slate of nominees (previously...

Peacock’s ordering more of Bupkis, giving the half-hour comedy series a season two order. The first season premiered on May 4, 2023 with the release of all eight episodes. Peacock didn’t confirm when fans can expect the just-announced second season to debut.

“Pete Davidson is a once-in-a-generation talent, and what he created with the first season of Bupkis absolutely blew us away,” stated Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “Pete has the rare ability to make you laugh out loud with his unfiltered brand of comedy, and then tear up with his raw and honest vulnerability. We could not be more proud to continue on this journey with Pete, Lorne Michaels, Broadway Video, and our partners at Universal Television for a second season as we continue to bolster Peacock’s comedy slate.

Peacock Releases Episode 2 of Pete Davidson’s ‘Bupkis’ on YouTube, Will Air On NBC after 'SNL' This Weekend
Image
Even though Pete Davidson’s “Saturday Night Live” cast member days are over, his tight-knit relationship with NBC has continued to grow and evolve this year with the premiere of his new comedy series “Bupkis.”

The full first season was released on Peacock on May 4 to critical acclaim, but ahead of Emmys voting, the streamer is taking advantage of the wide-cast NBCUniversal net by making the second episode of “Bupkis,” one of its most praised, available for more viewers. Peacock is apparently opting to promote the second episode instead of the divisive premiere episode in hopes of hooking audiences to keep watching from there.

3 Major Celebs Julie Chen Wants To See On Celebrity Big Brother
Image
Although Celebrity Big Brother didn't return for another season this past winter, longtime Big Brother host Julie Chen Moonves has some big-name celebrities in mind for any future seasons. Julie has been the host of Big Brother since the show first aired in 2000. In 2018, Big Brother returned during the winter months for its first celebrity rendition of the show.

While Celebrity Big Brother has only had three seasons on air so far, there has been a wide range of stars to compete inside the famous house. During Celebrity Big Brother season 3 in winter 2022, UFC champ Miesha Tate took home the grand prize. Prior to Miesha, singer Tamar Braxton won season 2, while actress Marissa Jaret Winokur was crowned the winner of Celebrity Big Brother season 1. Big Brother Celebrity All-Stars Edition Might Air Due To Writers’ Strike
Image
The Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike might be a good thing for fans of Big Brother, as CBS is considering adding a Celebrity All-Stars season to its lineup. Celebrity Big Brother is a spin-off of the classic reality show that premiered in 2018. With host Julie Chen Moonves, the show casts celebrities in a shortened version of the game. Winners of the three Celebrity Big Brother seasons include Marissa Jaret Winokur, Tamar Braxton, and Miesha Tate.

According to CinemaBlend, due to the WGA strike, CBS is considering airing a Celebrity All-Stars version of Big Brother. This installment would air after Big Brother season 25, presumably in the fall or winter. It would take the place of scripted television that will be delayed because of the strike.

Pete Davidson Joins Picket Line, Delivers Pizza To Striking Writers

According to plan, Pete Davidson was supposed to have made his triumphant return to Rockefeller Center’s Studio 8H this weekend for his debut as “Saturday Night Live” host.

10 Stars Who Should Compete On A Celebrity Big Brother Season
Image
For the first time in three years, Celebrity Big Brother didn't return for a brand-new season this winter, but there are many stars who should join if it ever comes back. The celebrity rendition of the show debuted in 2018 when a group of 11 stars moved into the famous house for a shortened version of the competition series. The show later returned for two more consecutive seasons.

Last winter, Miesha Tate took home the grand prize for Celebrity Big Brother season 3. Prior to her win, actress Marissa Jaret Winokur and singer Tamar Braxton also took home the win for their respective seasons. The show has cast all different types of celebrities, from actresses to athletes, and even well-known politicians. Although there have been some popular celebs to compete on the show, these A-list stars should take on the competition.

‘Bupkis’ Trailer: Pete Davidson Reckons with His Own Fame in Star-Studded Peacock Comedy
Image
Pete Davidson is just as famous for his personal life as his acting career, so it’s only fitting that his first leading television role sees him playing himself. The upcoming Peacock comedy “Bupkis” stars Davidson as Davidson, parodying the surreal levels of fame he has achieved in recent years with the help of some A-list friends.

The show is similar to Davidson’s 2020 film “The King of Staten Island,” which was directed by Judd Apatow and saw the former “Saturday Night Live” cast member in a role heavily inspired by his own background. Unlike that film though, “Bupkis” sees Davidson explicitly play a fictionalized version of himself, juggling acting roles, antics in the celebrity world, tabloid rumors, and his relationships with his working class family from Staten Island.

The trailer features many nods to real life tabloid stories and rumors involving Davidson, including his sister complaining about speculation about the star’s penis size.

Below is the first trailer for Bupkis, Peacock’s new half-hour series that’s described as a “a new comedy following Pete Davidson as he attempts to work through unique family dynamics and the complexities of fame to form meaningful relationships. The raw, semi-autobiographical series stars Davidson, Edie Falco and Joe Pesci alongside a star-studded supporting cast in a show that straddles reality and absurdity to best represent what it is to be Pete Davidson.”

In addition to getting Pesci to come out of his semi-retirement, the show also has a pretty star-studded lineup of guest stars: La La Anthony, Colson Baker (Machine Gun Kelly), Steve Buscemi, Bobby Cannavale, Charlamagne Tha God, Charlie Day, Philip Ettinger, Brad Garrett, Al Gore, Paul Walter Hauser,...

‘Bupkis’ Trailer: Pete Davidson Tangos, Joy Rides With Bobby Cannavale in Peacock Series (Video)
Pete Davidson
Pete Davidson shows off his dance moves, including a mean tango, in the first official trailer for his new series, “Bupkis,” in which he plays a fictionalized version of himself. The Peacock series debuts on May 4.

The trailer also features the comedian jumping into a grave and taking a high-speed joy ride with Bobby Cannavale. And screaming, lots of screaming.

“You run around like a kid and you’re not a kid anymore, you’re a man,” says Joe Pesci, who plays his grandfather, while Edie Falco, who plays his mother, tells him it’s not easy being his mom. His therapist (played by Charlie Day) also tells ‘”Bupkis” Pete, “You don’t exactly lead a quiet life.”
