Nearly 15 years after the conclusion of the "Harry Potter" film franchise, and almost 20 years since the release of J.K. Rowling's final novel, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," Warner Bros. is teaming up with HBO to produce an all-new TV series based on the beloved books. We've already met many members of the cast, and while details remain scarce, it's safe to assume the show will stick more closely to the source material, perhaps even expanding on moments the films had to omit.
Yes, the movies are genuine classics -- well, most of them, anyway -- and the various directors and writers did their best to adapt Rowling's massive texts into feature-length films suitable for general audiences. But that meant many important characters and plot threads were either glossed over or cut entirely.

A writer’s screenplay is optioned for a fee tied to the film’s budget. That budget is later increased when a big name is brought on to star. Are the writer’s managers, who’re also producers on the movie, obligated to disclose the bump and renegotiate their client’s pay?
The answer to that question could be yes, with an appeals court reviving a lawsuit from screenwriter Kurt McLeod against Zero Gravity Management over an alleged conflict of interest when it negotiated his deal for writing Copshop. On Thursday, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed dismissal of the suit from a federal judge, who found last year that Zero Gravity founders Eric and Mark Williams don’t have to face claims accusing them of prioritizing their payouts for producing the movie at the expense of their client by failing to disclose that the film’s budget had been substantially raised.

Gerard Butler has become known as one of the most recognizable action stars on the planet, but he’s no one-trick pony. Butler has starred in rom-coms and dramas in his career that see him play characters who are more effective with their words than their fists. One of those films is A Family Man — previously titled The Headhunter’s Calling. Butler stars alongside Spider-Man veterans Willem Dafoe and Alfred Molina in the film, which follows a headhunter whose dream of owning the company he works for clashes with the needs of his family. A Family Man is currently streaming on Prime Video, but the streamer has announced that it will leave the platform in four days, with May 23 being the last day it will stream. The film earned scores of 17% from critics and 57% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.
Bill Dubuque wrote the script for A Family Man, and Mark Williams directed the film.

The weekend box office is on fire, with ticket sales up more than 120 percent over the same frame last year.
The blaze is led by Warner Bros.’ Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler and starring Michael B. Jordan. Heading into its sophomore outing, the film was expected to compete with Ben Affleck-starrer The Accountant 2 for the top spot with anywhere from $20 million to $25 million.
But the supernatural period vampire pic continues to defy all the odds and easily stayed No. 1 domestically with a phenomenal $45.7 million to boast one of the smallest drops in history for a movie playing outside of the year-end holidays, or 5 percent off from its $48 million opening weekend, according to weekend actuals. (That’s ahead of Sunday’s estimate of $45 million, a 6 percent decline).
Put another way, Sinners boasts the smallest second-weekend decline for any film opening north of $40 million since 2009’s Avatar and the smallest...

Talk about a blast from the past.
Lucasfilm and Disney’s 20th Anniversary rerelease of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith soared to $3.4 million in Thursday previews ahead of its limited one-week engagement, enough to beat the $2.5 million earned in previews by Ben Affleck’s new action-thriller The Accountant 2 (the $2.5 million includes “tax day” screenings held April 15).
However, based on early Friday returns, the Accountant is making gains and should come in second with an opening in the $23 million to $25 million range, according to rival studio executives with access to grosses.
Not that Revenge of the Sith isn’t a force of nature. It could earn as much as $20 million to $23 million, making it one of the top openings ever for a rerelease (Disney is remaining more conservative and suggesting $20 million-plus). The crownholder belongs to 1977’s Star Wars, which grossed $35.9 million when rereleased in 1997, not adjusted for inflation,...

Ben Affleck‘s Christian Wolff from The Accountant is one of the most unusual action heroes to emerge over the last decade or so. Now, let’s face it – when people think of accountants, they don’t think of action heroes. Indeed, that’s one of the trademarks of the series, with Affleck’s unassuming-looking Wolff deliberately made up to look non-threatening or nerdy, only for him to possess skills that make him an unstoppable badass when push comes to shove. But, not only is he “nerdy”, but he’s also autistic. Unlike most films that would be about this condition, it’s not presented as a handicap, but rather an essential part of who he is, both good and bad, making the film a refreshing change of pace from other movies about the condition. With The Accountant 2 now in theatres, we thought now would be the perfect time to examine why,...

There’s no accounting for the power of word of mouth.
Graced with virtually perfect audience scores and the best reviews of filmmaker Ryan Coogler’s already acclaimed career, Sinners has transformed into the rare title that becomes an instant water-cooler sensation.
The period supernatural vampire pic starring Michael B. Jordan opened to a better-than-expected $48 million over Easter weekend to topple fellow Warner Bros.’ event pic A Minecraft Movie after the former ruled the roost for two consecutive weekends.
Sinners, buoyed by an ethnically diverse audience, has added another $23 million since Monday for a domestic total of $71.5 million through Wednesday. Its Monday haul was an impressive $7.8 million, followed by $8.6 million on discount Tuesday and another $7.1 million Wednesday. Those are huge numbers for an R-rated genre movie and, again, speak to powerful word of mouth.

The Harry Potter books were more than just magic and witchcraft; they were also an exploration of the good and evil in all of us. J.K. Rowling was truly a genius when it came to understanding the psychology of evilness, which, in her books, was mostly demonstrated through the use of father figures.
Fathers play a crucial role not only in the family but in society as well. They raise children who would soon become part of a larger unit, and the kind of person they would be is heavily influenced by the nurturing of their parents. For Rowling, the origin of evil comes from the side of fathers.

Bollywood Bronze
After a five-year planning process, Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will finally be immortalized in bronze this spring as their classic film “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge” (Ddlj) becomes the first Indian film to be honored at London’s “Scenes in the Square” movie trail.
The statue, depicting the two megastars in an iconic pose from the beloved Yash Raj Films 1995 romantic comedy – which follows two non-resident Indians and their romance across Europe and India – will mark the beginning of the film’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
It will be positioned on the eastern terrace outside the Odeon cinema — a fitting location as the Leicester Square setting features prominently in the film when the characters first cross paths.

The "Harry Potter" franchise features numerous families in its magical world of wizarding and witchcraft, though perhaps none as extensive as the Weasleys. As Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) discovers his and his family's important role in the battle against the evil wizard Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes), he's taken by the Weasleys. Identifiable by their hereditary red hair, Harry practically becomes a surrogate son to the family before marrying into it by the series' end. However, with so many Weasley children, including those that barely appear in the movies at all, it can be hard for casual viewers to keep track of them all.
Here is a complete rundown of the Weasleys appearing throughout the "Harry Potter" movies and how each of them help steer the overarching story. Though humble in status among the wizarding world, this unassuming family helped save the day immeasurably by Harry's side. This article also includes major...

Following their well-received CinemaCon debut presentation last night, Amazon MGM Studios have released a brand new trailer for Gavin O'Connor's long-awaited sequel The Accountant 2, offering a fresh new look at the return of 2x Academy Award-winner Ben Affleck (Justice League; Argo; The Town) as the titular killer and the Punisher himself Jon Bernthal (The Punisher; Daredevil: Born Again; The Wolf of Wall Street) as his kickass brother.
The new trailer leans heavily into the buddy comedy aspect of the action-thriller, with both Affleck and Bernthal picking up where they left off nine years ago and showing off their excellent chemistry as reunited brothers.
We've also gotten word that tickets are now on sale, and if you're interested in seeing the movie ten days early, the studio will be hosting exclusive Tax Day screenings on Tuesday, April 15 nationwide.
The film's synopsis reads, "Christian Wolff (Ben Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems.

Christian Wolff, Ben Affleck’s character from the 2016 action thriller The Accountant, will be making his long-awaited return to the big screen this year – and his comeback is going to be a violent one. The Motion Picture Association ratings board recently revealed that they’ve given The Accountant 2 an R rating for strong violence, and language throughout. That happens to be the same rating the first movie received, for the exact same reasons. Coming our way from Amazon MGM Studios, the film is scheduled to be released on April 25 – and with that date just a few weeks away, a new trailer for the film has dropped online! You can watch it in the embed above.

Ben Affleck and his team from The Accountant 2 brought new footage for their action-packed sequel to CinemaCon.
Affleck was joined by director Gavin O’Connor and other members of the cast to promote the follow-up to the 2016 original. The sequel from Amazon MGM Studios hits theaters April 25.
“It does feel great to continue the story of The Accountant,” Affleck told the crowd from the stage. “I’m thrilled to be playing this part again with this great cast. In some ways, I feel like this character never left me.”
Co-star Daniella Pineda teased that her character could hold her own with Affleck’s Christian Wolff. “I do have some pretty brutal fight scenes that will look awesome on your screens,” she said.
Jon Bernthal, who plays Wolff’s younger brother, Braxton, told the audience that Wolff needs his sibling, but Affleck wasn’t so sure. “I don’t know that Christian needs Brax so much,...

I get it. Adaptations are hard. Turning a hit book into a movie is tricky, especially when the books in question — in this case, the "Harry Potter" series — are very, very long. The longest "Potter" book, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," contains a whopping 870 pages in its US hardcover edition, so obviously not every single detail is bound to make it during the adaptation process. Still, the "Harry Potter" film franchise, which spanned eight movies, left a lot behind, and some of it is pretty important!
There are actually a whole bunch of "Harry Potter" plotlines and characters that didn't make it from the books to the movies, but here I'm going to try and note some of the most important ones.
As Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) learn magic at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, they meet a lot of people.

Exclusive: Warner Bros’ shelved movie Coyote vs. Acme finally might have found a new home with the studio deep in sale negotiations, we can reveal.
Gareth West’s distributor-financier Ketchup Entertainment is negotiating an all-rights acquisition in the $50 million range for the animated/live-action hybrid project. Ketchup last year rescued the same studio’s The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie.
The pact isn’t finalized and there’s still a chance it doesn’t make, but it’s heading in the right direction. Should it get over the line, the film would get a theatrical release in 2026.
The deal would mark a significant and record outlay for Ketchup, whose previous releases have included Michael Keaton starrer Goodrich, comic book reboot Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Ben Affleck thriller Hypnotic, and Michel Franco’s Jessica Chastain drama Memory.
Directed by David Green and written by May December scribe Samy Burch,...

Liam Neeson’s legendary skills are once again being put to the test, and he is coming out fighting as the 2020 movie Honest Thief returns to the Freevee chart yet again. Everyone knows that Neeson is very capable with a gun and fist, and if you are looking for violence, high drama, and a twisting, turning – if often predictable – storyline about kidnap, revenge, or retribution, then there are very few who can compare.
Honest Thief is one such movie that is scratching that itch. Released five years ago, it finds Neeson playing a professional bank robber, Tom Carter, who is planning on going straight and confessing to his crimes. Things don’t go to plan, though, when corrupt FBI officers try to steal the cash he planned on returning.

The London TV Screenings, or London Screenings for short, the global TV industry event running Feb. 23-28, is ready for its close-up. The once low-key affair, where networks and sales outfits screen their latest shows for international buyers, has grown to can’t-miss status over the years. 2025 will be London Screenings’ time to shine, particularly without any competition from the now-defunct Mip TV.
That said, Mip will be holding its own inaugural Mip London event during the week, featuring panel discussions on industry trends, hot new properties from the likes of South Korea and Japan, as well as a session with David Beckham and Netflix chief content officer Bela Bajaria.
The London Screenings come at an inflection point for the global TV industry. After a sustained boom in high-end drama, networks, and streamers are again cutting costs and betting more on lower-cost non-fiction and reality shows. In the fiction arena,...

There are a lot of characters to keep track of in the magical "Harry Potter" universe, but it's impossible to forget about Neville Longbottom, the shy and forgetful boy (played in the films by Matthew Lewis) who gets sorted into Gryffindor along with Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) himself. When we first meet Neville in both the book and film of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" (or "Philosopher's Stone," if you live abroad), he's lost track of his toad Trevor, and his sweet, bumbling behavior persists throughout the story. Unfortunately, during "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," Harry learns something genuinely devastating about Neville's parents ... and the movies don't actually include all of the tragic details.
On the surface, Harry and Neville have very similar stories. Both of them were the only sons of Aurors, and Harry's parents Lily and Alice, alongside Neville's parents Frank and Alice, were members...

It’s tax season, and this year that means means two things: creepy H&r Block-mascot commercials and Ben Affleck’s “The Accountant 2.” That H&r Block mascot head, by the way, is a sniper’s dream, not that Christian Wolff needs much assistance with a rifle and scope.
In “The Accountant” franchise, Wolff (Affleck) has a talent for solving complex problems. In a ceremony that alternated between subdued and sublime, reverent and rocking, the 2025 Grammys attempted to offer thoughtful tribute to the victims of the Los Angeles wildfires while also honoring the best in music. Fittingly, the biggest ovations came at the end of Sunday’s ceremony, as the gathered music royalty rose to applaud Los Angeles County firefighters, who took the stage to present the final award, and then again to celebrate Beyoncé, who claimed the night’s ultimate prize: Album of the Year.
That win, for her country-crossover sensation, Cowboy Carter, was her first triumph in the Album of the Year category after four prior losses. Beyoncé, who entered the evening as the most-nominated performer with 11 bids, also took home awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Duo/Group Performance with Miley Cyrus for the track “II Most Wanted.” Queen Bey now has 35 career Grammys, extending her record...
