    Her son, Adolph "Bunker" Spreckels III, was a surfing legend, rising to fame as a teenager. He was heir to the Spreckels sugar fortune and inherited $50 million at the age of 21. He then abandoned surfing for a life of drugs and excess. He died in 1977 at the age of 27 of a heart attack brought on by a drug overdose.
