- Moved to Coarsegold, California in 1993 and continued her fellowship work in Fresno and Madera Counties, completely dedicating her life to helping herself and others find daily sobriety and a higher power out of addiction. She wanted to be known more as a survivor of addiction than as a cast member of Star Trek (1966).
- She was a professional singer before becoming an actress; she opened in nightclubs for Billie Holiday and Buddy Rich, and toured with the Spike Jones and Fred Waring Bands.
- Two Star Trek action figures were made in the likeness of her Star Trek character, Yeoman Janice Rand.

- Friends with William Shatner. Since she has passed away, Shatner is now the oldest living cast member of Star Trek (1966).

- Former co-star Leonard Nimoy helped her find the strength to join Alcoholics Anonymous and confront her addictions.
- In 1998, she appeared in an episode of Diagnostic: meurtre (1993) with her Star Trek (1966) castmates George Takei, Walter Koenig and Majel Barrett.
- According to her autobiography, "The Longest Trek: My Tour of the Galaxy", she struggled with and overcame alcoholism and drug addiction, particularly marijuana.

- Upon her death, she was cremated and her ashes are in her family procession. Whitney is however, the only one of the three female Star Trek regulars --not to have their ashes launched into space.
- Terry Farrell wore her "Yeoman Janice Rand" basketweave hairstyle in the "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" episode Trials and Tribble-ations (1996).
- Appeared in a brief scene in Star Trek III : À la recherche de Spock (1984). Many Star Trek fans have debated whether she's her Janice Rand character or a different one. There is however, no Janice Rand listed in the production notes for the film and the end credits list her as "Woman in Cafeteria". Also considering the different hair color she had in the scene, it's likely a different character she was appearing as.
