To fans, the original Harry Potter movies are some of the most magical films ever made. But, to one of the original stars, it was just another paying gig. The film franchise, which began in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, featured an all-star British cast, which included Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, Richard Harris, Helena Bonham Carter, Gary Oldman, and the list goes on and on and on. Among that A-list talent was another member of British acting royalty: Emma Thompson. While many of the cast have magical memories from their time filming the series, Thompson's are a little more down to Earth.

Emma Thompson was recently at the Locarno Film Festival (per Deadline), where she was the guest of honor. During her Q&a, she addressed everything from being asked out on a date by Donald Trump to filming the Harry Potter franchise.

Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav is still waving his wand with confidence. During the company’s most recent earnings call, Zaslav doubled down on his promise that the Harry Potter TV series will run for ten years on HBO Max—far beyond the expected seven-season plan based on J.K. Rowling’s books. The comments arrive as production on Season 1 ramps up in and around London, with the series set to premiere in 2027. The new Harry Potter adaptation is now fully in motion, with the first official images of the cast and sets drawing surprisingly warm reactions from longtime fans. During an interview with Forbes, cinematographer Adriano Goldman teased his work on HBO's television adaptation of Harry Potter. The director of photography revealed that, after spending 18 weeks in pre-production, the creative team settled on the visual style for the first season of the fantasy reboot. The grueling process will end up defining the series for the next decade, which Goldman teased will feature his affinity for colors. “I have a special relationship with color. This series needs to be more vibrant from the global point of view of the image,” Goldman revealed.

The Pop! Nooks Harry Potter in Cupboard has a listed price of $24.99 and features a young Harry Potter, sitting on his small bed in his bedroom, located in the cupboard under the stairs. The room in question is somewhat detailed, featuring a lamp and some shelves. This figure is available for pre-order on third-party sites, such as Entertainment Earth, and is scheduled to arrive in September 2025.

Work continues on HBO's Harry Potter TV series in London, England, and Dominic McLaughlin has just been spotted as the Boy Wizard alongside a giant-sized Hagrid. 

However, despite what you might think at first glance, that isn't Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost. Similar to the Harry Potter movies, it seems this series is utilising a suitably large stand-in who will don a realistic prosthetic head with the Hagrid actor's likeness. 

As with the late Robbie Coltrane's portrayal, Frost's performance will then be merged with that. The result will be a Hagrid played by a well-known star who, at the same time, does right by the version of the half-giant and gamekeeper and groundskeeper at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry by being suitably massive. 

It looks like McLaughlin and "Frost" are shooting scenes in the Muggle world, where they take the tube before arriving at Diagon Alley.

Production is now underway on HBO's small-screen adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter. In the novels, Harry is begrudgingly taken in by Petunia and Vernon Dursley following the death of his parents. The lad is not treated very well (to say the least), but does ultimately put his differences with their son, Dudley, aside.

Production on HBO's Harry Potter TV series started earlier this week, and following our first look at both the Boy Wizard and Hagrid, we have a better idea of what to expect from this small screen adaptation of controversial author J.K. Rowling's iconic series of novels.

We've known for a while that HBO intends to adapt a book per season, but with the show's young leads set to grow up fast and so much more ground to cover than the movies, the cable network has a unique plan to counter them being aged out.

According to Redanian Intelligence (via SFFGazette.com), seasons 1 and 2 are expected to be six episodes each, with future seasons potentially expanding to 8 episodes to help cover those extra pages. The books ranged from 223 to 766 pages.

Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Zoe Wanamaker have each been banned from driving for six months following separate speeding incidents, reports the BBC.

Watson was caught driving 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford during July 2024. For the traffic offense, the Hermione Granger actress was fined £1,044 by High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 16th.

Before the incident, Watson had already racked up nine points on her license. In the UK, a driver can be banned for six months after tallying 12 or more penalty points within three years. They must also apply for a new license before returning to the road.

Wanamaker, who played broomstick flying instructor Madame Hooch, also had nine points on her license before being caught driving 46 mph in a 40 mph zone during August 2024. She received an identical fine from the High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Harry Potter may have just started production on its first season, but HBO is reportedly already looking ahead. A new report has offered insight into the network's plans for the show's second season, which would adapt The Chamber of Secrets.

According to Redanian Intelligence, HBO plans on filming the first two seasons of Harry Potter back-to-back, with Season 2 slated to begin production in July 2026, two months after Season 1's expected wrap date. Season 2 would then film on a similar production timeframe, wrapping in May 2027. The report also revealed that the episode counts for the first two seasons will be shorter than expected. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod previously indicated back in December 2024 that the first season would comprise eight episodes, when they mentioned having "eight hours to tell the first book." Following our first look at Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Wizard, HBO's upcoming Harry Potter TV series has just shared a first look—via SFFGazette.com—at Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.

The late Robbie Coltrane played the character in the big screen franchise that ran from 2001 to 2011, and this interpretation doesn't seem all that different. Frost is roughly the same age as his predecessor was in that first movie—a little older, in fact—but looks a bit more youthful in the role.

So far, this adaptation of Harry Potter doesn't look all that different from the movies, aside from a change in actors. That might be off-putting for longtime fans, but is unlikely to bother the new, younger audience Warner Bros. Discovery hopes to introduce to this Wizarding World.

HBO’s “Harry Potter” television adaptation is slowly coming together, but we’re still a ways out from actually getting it on our screens. That said, we are learning more and more as the months go on.

The series was first announced back in 2023, when HBO first launched the new name for its streaming service, Max (which has since been rebranded back to HBO Max). McLaughlin will be joined in the show by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Grainger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, with the show set to premiere in 2027. Just like the original film franchise, HBO’s version will follow its three young stars as they grow up across the seven seasons of the series — each one adapting a single book from the Harry Potter saga.
