“Murderbot” Season 1 ends with the titular robo finally managing to make the connections with people like it’s seen on its many serials – only to decide to leave them and forge its own path.
The finale ends with Murderbot (Alexander Skarsgård) and the Preservation Ops team returning to Port FreeCommerce after their mission went up in flames. The team worked hard to get Murderbot back into their possession and its wiped memory and personality – developed courtesy of his busted governor module – restored. When all is said and done, and despite the fact that Murderbot defied the odds and grew to care about the team, it makes the decision to sneak away in the night and explore alone.
“One of the reasons that we wanted to do this is that we felt that the book had a really beautiful ending, and it put his finger on something thematic, which is the...

The Apple TV+ series Murderbot just wrapped up its first season with the finale dropping on July 11. Led by Alexander Skarsgård, this latest sci-fi show from Apple TV+ had all the right ingredients: A-list talent, unexpected humor, stunning visuals, and that signature Apple polish that makes their shows stand out.
Now that all episodes are out, this is the perfect time to ask the big question: Is Murderbot worth starting? No more waiting week to week, no more cliffhangers, just one full season ready to binge. And sometimes, that’s all people need to finally dive in.
After watching the entire season, I can honestly say there’s a lot to love. A few things didn’t land as strongly, but they still worked within the world the show builds. Overall, the positives far outweigh the negatives. From story changes to casting choices, and how closely it mirrors Martha Wells’ beloved book series,...

Apple TV+ sci-fi show, Murderbot, which landed an almost perfect Rotten Tomatoes critics' score of 96%, has officially been renewed for season 2 after its early success. Soon after Murderbot season 1 started streaming on Apple TV+, it rose in the charts to become the streamer's most successful series.
While its nearly unanimous acclaim was enough to justify its swift renewal after season 1, the Apple TV+ sci-fi show also performed incredibly well from a commercial standpoint and remained at the top of the streaming charts for several weeks straight. This explains why Apple TV+ has announced its return (via Apple TV+ Press) even before its season 1 finale's release.
Since every metric proved Murderbot was a resounding success, it should not be surprising that Apple TV+ has given its second season a green flag. Not to mention, since Apple TV+ has always had the reputation of letting most of its sci-fi shows reach their...

Based on “All Systems Red,” the first novella in Martha Wells’ series “The Murderbot Diaries,” the season stars Alexander Skarsgård as “a self-hacking security construct who is horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients” that “must hide its free will and complete a dangerous assignment when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe,” per the official logline. Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones and Tamara Podemski also star.
“Murderbot” was created by brothers Chris and Paul Weitz, who also serve as showrunners and directors. Executive producers include the Weitz brothers via their Depth of Field banner; Skarsgård; Andrew Miano; and David S. Goyer and Keith Levine via Phantom Four.

Right now, Apple TV+ is in the middle of airing Murderbot, its new comedic science fiction series based on The Murderbot Diaries books by Martha Wells. I've been enjoying the show quite a lot, and it seems like a lot of other people are too. As of this writing, it holds a 97% rating among critics on Rotten Tomatoes and an 80% among general viewers. The buzz has been good; just today it popped up on New York Times' list of favorite shows of 2025 so far.
But in the age of streaming, it's always hard to be sure just how well a show is doing. Streamers are notoriously cagey about releasing viewership data, so we really have no solid numbers from Apple about how many people are watching Murderbot. Now that we're nearing the end of its 10-episode first season, you may be wondering if we'll get another season; I know I am.

With the 10-episode “Murderbot” series, we actually get two sci-fi shows in one: There’s the main sci-fi comedy from Chris and Paul Weitz about a rogue security robot (Alexander Skarsgård) hiding his free will while on a dangerous mission with a group of scientists. In addition, there’s Murderbot’s favorite space soap opera that he watches for escapist fun: the cheesy “Star Trek” parody, “Sanctuary Moon” (starring John Cho as the Captain).
For production VFX supervisor Sean Faden, this meant wrangling a diverse array of nearly 1,800 VFX shots. This included the opening and closing of Murderbot’s helmet (his practical white suit was created by costume designer Laura Jean Shannon), the Ui that reflects his Pov (accompanied by his snarky voice-over commentary), a giant alien worm, and the realistic VFX used on the bridge of the spaceship on “Sanctuary Moon.”

Maybe you can’t milk Robert De Niro, but you can absolutely milk a franchise. That’s pretty much what happened with 2000’s Meet the Parents, which, with its $161 million domestic haul, was one of the year’s biggest movies. Not surprisingly, it birthed a sequel a few years later, and then for some reason a third in 2010. Fifteen years might seem like an odd time to bring the Fockers back, but with nostalgia for the era raging, it actually makes sense. And if star Robert De Niro is to be believed, the script is one that will have audiences lining the fock up.
Meet the Parents was given a 25th anniversary screening at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, where De Niro joined director Jay Roach and co-star Ben Stiller for a packed Q&a. It was here that De Niro assured attendees that the script for the fourth...

David Dastmalchian is a deeply human machine of creativity. In addition to acting, he screenwrites, dons the cape of Dr. Fearless, hosts Grave Conversations, runs his own horror-centric production company, and writes comics that Daily Dead founder and editor-in-chief Jonathan James praises. Given all this creative bandwidth, Dastmalchian’s latest role couldn’t make more sense.
In the bloody, funny, and offbeat Apple TV+ series Murderbot, he plays Gurathin — an augmented human with access to plenty of data. That access is part of why he distrusts the titular robo-protector (Alexander Skarsgård), whose job is to safeguard peace-loving hippie scientists on the job. The show is a heightened yet grounded adaptation of Martha Wells’ work, blending sci-fi action and tasty gore with human conflict and comically mundane squabbles.

In addition to Stiller and De Niro, Blythe Danner and Teri Polo are expected to reprise their “Meet the Parents” roles in the new film as well.
This news came less than a year after Grande received critical acclaim and a 2025 Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Glinda opposite Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba in 2024’s “Wicked.” Grande, whose career has always consisted of both acting and music work, joins “Meet the Parents 4” as her first post-“Wicked” screen role.

Murderbot is the latest sci-fi comedy-drama on Apple TV+ that is gaining widespread attention. Based on Martha Wells’ bestselling science fiction series, The Murderbot Diaries, the series, created by Chris and Paul Weitz, has a whole different twist to the otherwise overused humanoid concept.
Murderbot (played by Alexander Skarsgård) not only protects people, but it also enjoys watching soap operas in its free time and has difficulty making eye contact with others. Apart from an anxiety-ridden bot, we have an exploration crew that loves to get in trouble, and if trouble doesn’t come to them, they go looking for it. In the third episode of the first season, “Risk Assessment,” the PreservationAux goes looking for something completely unprepared.

Created by Paul and Chris Weitz, Apple TV+’s most recent sci-fi release, Murderbot, is based on author Martha Wells’ beloved novel series The Murderbot Diaries. The author had also acted as a consultant for the makers while making the show, as they collectively believed that it would help in being truthful to the source material.
It’s very interesting to watch a robot procrastinate to watch its favorite space opera, The Rise and Fall of Sanctuary Moon. The show is said to have the perfect amount of melodrama, mystery, and comedy to keep the audience engaged. But in all honesty, is Murderbot even worth a watch? Let’s find out.
Murderbot Season 1: How faithful is the adaptation for Apple TV+?
Whenever a book is adapted for a series, it is very normal for the makers to tweak a few things to adjust the storyline according to the episodes.

Skarsgård also executive produces along with series creators Chris and Paul Weitz.
“Risk Assessment” Plot: Murderbot reluctantly gets close with the PresAux team as they fly to check on another survey team that has mysteriously gone dark. When Murderbot enters the DeltFall habitat alone, it discovers more than just the massacred crew.

No one loves anything as much as Apple loves science fiction. But who's complaining?
The streaming service’s latest addition to its sci-fi heavy library is Murderbot, a 10-episode series adapted from All Systems Red, the first book in Martha Wells’ award-winning Murderbot Diaries series of novels. The show — the first two episodes of which are now streaming on Apple TV+ — hails from Oscar nominees Chris and Paul Weitz and stars Emmy winner Alexander Skarsgård as a self-aware cyborg. Having dubbed itself Murderbot, its purpose is to protect a group of scientists led by the empathetic Mensah (Olivier Award winner Noma Dumezweni) as they explore the surface of an uninhabited planet. Alexander Skarsgård — the six-foot-four Swedish actor you may know from playing one of two Northmen — is a giant, beautiful weirdo. Those less familiar with his work as a bloodthirsty creature of the night (or his character in “True Blood”) may only see a classic Hollywood hunk — the kind of guy who could conceivably marry Nicole Kidman and Kirsten Dunst; who looks like he was built by Hasbro to sell Tarzan action figures but can still slap on a tuxedo and win the red carpet; who can convincingly step onscreen as a soldier or a doctor or an international man of mystery.
The Alexander Stangårds out there know better. They know the star’s mysterious allure sparks from within. They know his characters range from terrifying monsters to hilarious parodies of those monsters to something indefinable in between. They know even when he plays himself, he’ll somehow end up jerking...

Today, Apple TV+ premiered the first two episodes of Murderbot, its new sci-fi comedy based on The Murderbot Diaries books by Martha Wells. The series stars Alexander Skarsgård as the titular Murderbot, a security construct (SecUnit) who has hacked its own governor module and gained free will. No longer will it obey humans! Its destiny is now its own to decide!
Except Murderbot doesn't quite know what to do with this free will, so it binge watches television shows and keeps quietly working for a group of hippy scientists from the Preservation Alliance, who take it along for security on their latest survey mission.
If you can't tell from that description, Murderbot is a very fun show. It's created by Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz, brothers who have worked on comedies like American Pie and About A Boy as well as genre fare like The Golden Compass and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

It’s not really a surprise that after that jam-packed pilot, very little happens in the second episode of Chris and Paul Weitz’s AppleTV original, Murderbot. But there’s no denying that the concerning amount of subtlety in the episode is a sign that this Alexander Skarsgard-starrer might slow down in the future too. And that’s only a bother because, despite the undercurrent of themes that inspire slow contemplation, Murderbot needs that fast pace to function well.

Why did Mensah leave Murderbot behind?
Acknowledging Gurathin’s jealousy about Murderbot doesn’t mean we have to deny his good qualities. After all, the rest of PreservationAux must’ve seen something in their precious Gugu to love him as much as they do. They totally understand where he’s coming from when Gura claims that he can’t trust anything that comes from the Company. So with Murderbot in stasis,...

That was way too much world-building for a 30 minute long pilot. And I have to admit that that kind of took away from the otherwise hilarious tone Murderbot has set. I’m only saying that with so much conviction because it took me two watches to fully appreciate the outlandish humor that Chris and Paul Weitz’s sci-fi-comedy is chock full of. So I suggest you do the same. Even if you have totally enjoyed seeing Alexander Skarsgard’s adorable cyborg with a mild proclivity for murder. You know, like something that came out of Phil and Luke Dunphy’s mind. Because I’d hate for you to miss out on any of that cheeky relatability.

The 10-episode season kicks off with two episodes on Friday, May 16, only on Apple TV+.
