The Best. Baseball Movie. Ever (Guest Blog)
Kano (2014)
In an earlier preview here of the just-released Taiwanese baseball film titled “Kano,” this reporter explained that when a high school baseball team from Taiwan was invited to the Japan in 1931 to play in an annual high school tournament, it surprised everyone by reaching the finals — and almost winning. Okay, they came in second, but the story still resonates today in both Taiwan and Japan, and a new movie by first-time director Umin Boya has lit up the scoreboard. Producer Te-sheng Wei, the director of earlier Taiwanese blockbusters “Cape No. 7″ and “Seediq Bale,” also about the influence of Japanese.

Exclusive: Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale Clip
Te-Sheng Wei
We have an exclusive clip from Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale, director Te-Sheng Wei's Taiwanese period tale, which hits theaters April 27. Masanobu Ando stars in this epic drama about two races who went to war over their beliefs. Check it out.

Warriors Of The Rainbow Seediq Bale - Exclusive Cut Off Communication

Some eighty years ago, in the mountains of Taiwan two races clashed in defense of their faiths. One race believed in rainbows, the other believed in the sun. Neither side realized that they both believed in the same sky. Te-Sheng Wei's epic film Warriors of the Rainbow: Seediq Bale reclaims an extraordinary episode from 20th-century history which is little-known even in Taiwan. Between 1895 and 1945, the island was a Japanese colony inhabited not only by the majority (Han Chinese Immigrants) but also by the remnants of the aboriginal tribes who first settled the mountainous land. In 1930 Mouna Rudo,...

Venice Film Festival Round-up
Simone Eder and Carlotta Corvi report from the Venice International Film Festival.

The 68th was certainly a memorable year with the overall quality of the films being very high and the films for the lineup well selected. Some films surprised while some films disappointed, and most of them will be talked about in the coming weeks and months.

Day 1

The longest running Film festival in the World kicked off its 68th Edition Festival at the Lido in Venice with the world premiere of George Clooney’s political drama The Ides of March starring Ryan Gosling, Clooney himself, Paul Giamatti and Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and was the first film shown in competition for the Golden Lion. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, directed by Tomas Alfredson Wuthering Heights, directed by Andrea Arnold Texas Killing Fields, directed by Ami Canaan Mann The Ides of March, directed by George Clooney Quando La Notte, directed by Cristina Comencini Terraferma,...
