It’s Upsetting That Taylor Sheridan Did 3 Elite Movies and Then Went Back to Milk His Billion Dollar Franchise Yellowstone
Image
“I had the time of my life… and I owe it all to you…” crooned Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes, and that’s exactly how many of us might have felt watching Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River: Taylor Sheridan’s hat trick of cinematic brilliance. But then? Just like your favorite indie band selling out to do car commercials, Sheridan probably packed up his grit and gravitas, tossed his writer’s pen into a pile of ranch dust, and saddled up to milk Yellowstone for every billion it’s worth. Pun absolutely intended!

Let’s not beat around the bush; Sheridan was on a creative bender for the ages. One movie after another, each sharper than a cactus in cowboy boots. He was slicing through the American psyche like a hot knife through gun oil. Then, instead of diving deeper into raw, jagged-edge storytelling, he planted his...

McCartney ended his note by writing: “And...

Dirty Dancing Ending Explained
Image
One of the most iconic romantic movies in cinematic history is Dirty Dancing, and the movie's ending is what makes the film such a classic. A coming-of-age story, Dirty Dancing follows Frances "Baby" Houseman (Jennifer Grey) while she spends summer vacation at a resort in the Catskills with her father, mother, and sister. That summer, she meets a dance instructor named Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze), and the two fall for one another despite their different economic backgrounds. Through Johnny and Baby's relationship, the movie explores themes of classism, first loves, sexuality, and courage.

While Dirty Dancing has many memorable sequences, the most popular scene is the finale. Johnny returns to the resort after being fired for having a relationship with Baby. In front of all the resort staff and guests, Baby and Johnny dance to the song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.

‘DWTS’ Week 2: Songs & Routines For ‘Oscar Night’
Image
Season 33 of Dancing With The Stars kicked off last week. What’s next for the 13 celebs and their pro partners? Keep reading to see the full list of songs and routines for Oscar Night on DWTS.

The First Season 33 Elimination Will Be A Double Elimination

This season includes reality stars, actors, sports icons, and one very controversial contestant. DWTS fans are outraged that ABC gave convicted scammer Anna Delvey a platform by casting her on Season 33. She earned an 18 out of 30 for her Cha Cha to Sabrina Carpenter’s song “Espresso.”

Cast of DWTS Season 33 on Good Morning America from Instagram

She might be the first celebrity to go home from the popular dance competition. Last week’s scores will combine with this week’s scores, plus viewer votes to determine who stays and who goes. Two celebrities will go home this week in a shocking double elimination.

After her first DWTS performance,...

DWTS spoilers: Song choices for Oscars Night revealed and double elimination confirmed
Eric Roberts, Tori Spelling, Reginald VelJohnson, Alfonso Ribeiro, Anna Delvey Sorokin, Joey Graziadei, Ilona Maher, Jenn Tran, Stephen Nedoroscik, Dwight Howard, Julianne Hough, Phaedra Parks, Chandler Kinney, Danny Amendola, and Brooks Nader in Dancing with the Stars (2005)
Dancing with the Stars Season 33 is about to take a hard left turn.

The season premiere aired earlier this week, and everyone stayed in the competition for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy for another week.

However, the second episode of the season will feature a double elimination, shifting the ballroom dynamics quite a bit.

With the cast able to perform their first performances of the season without the threat of going home the same night, the heat will be turned up, and we’ll have to watch to see whether there will be any mistakes with the increased pressure.

Losing two competitors this early in the season is a big swing, but it will be a great way to eliminate the worst performers, assuming viewers vote based on their performances alone.

Despite scoring a decent 18 out of 30 during the premiere, Anna Delvey is probably on borrowed time.

Anna Delvey will...

‘SNL’: Ariana Grande & Bowen Yang Hilariously Break Character In ‘Moulin Rouge’ Skit With ‘Wicked’ Ending
Image
Ariana Grande and Bowen Young could not keep it together during a sketch on Saturday Night Live tonight.

The pair brought to life songs that did not make it into the hit film Moulin Rouge which included “Up Where We Belong,” originally sung by Jennifer Warnes and Joe Cocker; “Do-Re-Mi” by Julie Andrews; “Creep” by TLC; “Happy Birthday”; and “Pride (In the Name of Love)” by U2 among others.

While they made it nearly all the way through the sketch before breaking character, Yang began to lose focus while performing Shania Twain’s hit song “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” He continued to have a fit of giggles as he and Grande sang “Happy Birthday” for the umpteenth time leading the latter also to break character. It only gets worse when the comedian dips the singer and attempts to sing “I Will Always Love You,” written by Dolly Parton...

Tom Smothers Dies: Comedy Legend And One-Half Of The Smothers Brothers Was 86
Image
Tom Smothers, who with his younger brother Dick changed the face of comedy with their musical humor and The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, died Tuesday in Santa Rosa, California, following a cancer battle. The news was announced by the National Comedy Center, on behalf of Smothers’ family. He was 86.

Tom and Dick Smothers started out as folk musicians in the early ’60s, and soon discovered that, while they were not good enough to be professional musicians, the act worked if they mixed in comedy.

Dick Smothers said in a statement, “Tom was not only the loving older brother that everyone would want in their life, he was a one-of-a-kind creative partner. I am forever grateful to have spent a lifetime together with him, on and off stage, for over 60 years. Our relationship was like a good marriage – the longer we were together, the more we loved and respected one another.

Titled Joe Cocker: With a Lot of Help from His Friends, the book is by the rock’n’roll biographer, Mark Bego, and will be the first crack at telling Cocker’s story since his death in 2014, following his rise in the late ‘60s, his internal struggles, and the peace he ultimately found. Get Out Soundtrack Guide: Every Song In The Movie & When It Plays
Image
Jordan Peele's Get Out soundtrack is filled with memorable songs that add depth and tension to the film's scenes. The use of songs like "Run, Rabbit, Run!" and "Sikiliza Kwa Wahenga" create unnerving juxtapositions and set the stage for the horrors that unfold. "Redbone" and "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" are used ironically to represent the calm before the storm and the deceitful nature of certain characters.

From a World War II-era ditty to a pop classic from Dirty Dancing, there are plenty of great songs on the Get Out soundtrack. In a biting combination of Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner and The Stepford Wives, Get Out stars Daniel Kaluuya as a Black photographer who gets drawn into a sinister conspiracy during a weekend stay at his white girlfriend’s parents’ gated community. The movie established Jordan Peele as a prodigious new voice in horror cinema, earned...

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Soundtrack: Complete Details and Playlist
Elliot Page, Robert Sheehan, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Justin H. Min, Ritu Arya, Aidan Gallagher, and Emmy Raver-Lampman in Umbrella Academy (2019)
Nowadays it’s hard for any superhero show to stand out on television. Through three seasons on Netflix, however, The Umbrella Academy has discovered that it sure does help to have a banging soundtrack.

Fittingly for a TV series based on a comic written by a musician (My Chemical Romance’s Gerard Way), The Umbrella Academy knows its way around a tune. Season 1 was highlighted by an instant classic group dance session to Tiffany. Then the 1963-set season 2 upped the ante with a whole host of period-appropriate songs. For season 3, Umbrella Academy showrunner Steve Blackman wanted to make sure music played just as big a role.

“I write a lot of songs already into the script. And I encourage my writers to do the same thing,” Blackman tells Den of Geek. “Sometimes they make sense in the scene. Sometimes they’re a little weirdly subversive. And sometimes it’s just...

Oscar’s Top 20: Charting The Best Musical Moments In The History Of The Academy Awards Telecast – Deadline x Rolling Stone
Image
As part of Deadline x Rolling Stone, a special issue of our AwardsLine print magazine dedicated to music in cinema, Noel Murray runs through the 20 Best Oscar music moments.

For most of the history of the Academy Awards, the musical numbers have been at once glitzy and sappy, featuring fresh-scrubbed young dancers in spangled costumes, spinning and kicking behind a couple of old Hollywood stars. But every now and then, amid all the schmaltz, the producers of the Oscars telecasts have set aside some airtime to showcase some of the best singers and the snappiest songs of their eras.

Beginning in the 1970s especially, the Academy began opening up more to rock ’n’ roll and R&b, around the same time that the producers started asking the Best Original Song nominees’ original artists to perform. Ever since, the show has featured some the music industry’s biggest stars, alongside a...

‘The Masked Dancer’ finale Sloth profile: Will the sluggish creature claw his way to victory?
Image
The Sloth may have gotten off to a sluggish start on Season 1 of “The Masked Dancer,” but he slowly clawed his way into the finale and will now compete to become the first winner of the Diamond Mask trophy. Initially going for laughs, the leisurely creature gradually unveiled hidden talents that have wowed panelists Paula Abdul, Brian Austin Green, Ken Jeong and Ashley Tisdale. With just one episode remaining, the Sloth now hopes to become the first winner of the Fox reality TV dancing competition.

The Sloth delivered his first performance in Episode 2, proving he had a fun sense of humor by dancing to “What I Like About You” by the Romantics on various pieces of exercise equipment. While portions of his routine weren’t exactly graceful, a trained eye like Paula’s saw enough precision between the laughs to pin him as a trained dancer. In episode 3 the Sloth...

‘The Masked Dancer’ spoilers: The Sloth is …
Image
Of the four remaining contestants on season 1 of “The Masked Dancer,” the Sloth is one of the best and he could well win the Diamond Mask. He had four judges rocking in their seats when he danced to “Twist Remix” by Neeraj Shridhar on February 3. That routine earned Sloth a slot in the Top 4 competing again on February 10.

We’ve rewatched all of Sloth’s slides across the dance floor including those from earlier episodes: “What I Like About You” by The Romantics on January 6;”Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes on January 13; and “Ain’t That a Kick in the Head” by Dean Martin on January 27. And we’ve reviewed his four clues videos again.

We agree with the judges that Sloth is a professional dancer. However, we think they failed to nail his name in their guesses. Keep reading for all “The Masked Dancer...

‘The Masked Dancer’ judges are convinced Will Ferrell is the Sloth, but we’re not buying it
Image
“It gives me Will Ferrell vibes, to be honest,” proclaimed Ashley Tisdale during last week’s episode of “The Masked Dancer” (watch above). She and the other panelists were trying to guess the true identity of the comedic celebrity hiding inside the colorful Sloth costume after his ribbon dance performance to “Up Where We Belong” by Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes. However, we’re not buying that an A-list movie star like Ferrell would take time away from his busy schedule to perform silly dances on a reality TV show. After all, look at the other people who have been unmasked so far: rapper Ice-t, scientist Bill Nye and activist Elizabeth Smart. What do You think at home? Sound off down in the comments section.

33 years later, a ‘Dirty Dancing’ sequel is in the works — and Baby will return!
Image
The last time we saw “Dirty Dancing” star Jennifer Grey kick up her heels, it was in 2010 as the winner of Season 11 of “Dancing with the Stars” alongside her pro partner Derek Hough. At 50 years old, she became the show’s oldest female champion.

The actress, now 60, who co-starred as Frances “Baby” Housman opposite the late Patrick Swayze in 1987’s “Dirty Dancing” is involved in a sequel as both the star and executive producer of a new version of the film. The original was set at a Catskills resort where naive Baby learned how dance and make romance with dancing instructor Johnny Castle. Now, Baby isn’t in the corner. She’s in the producer’s chair.

Leonard Cohen
How Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’ Brilliantly Mingled Sex, Religion
Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen’s career had reached a low point when he wrote “Hallelujah.” It was 1984, and he had been out of the spotlight for quite a long time. His 1977 LP, Death of a Ladies’ Man, a collaboration with Phil Spector, was a commercial and critical disappointment, and his next album Recent Songs fared no better. When Cohen submitted the songs for his subsequent LP, Various Positions, to Columbia, label execs didn’t hear “Hallelujah,” the opening song of Side Two, as anything special. They didn’t even want to release the album,...

I’m not sure any of us were — insert Valley Girl accent here — “Like, oh-my-God!” about the idea of The Voice’s ’80s Week after we heard what Team Kelly Clarkson’s since-eliminated Shane Q did to Billy Ocean’s “Caribbean Queen” during the Top 10’s performances. It was mildly confusing when Haim released an original song titled “Hallelujah” on Monday, but now they’ve officially dropped a Leonard Cohen cover — a rendition “If It Be Your Will,” included on the new Hanukkah+ album.

The final breath to 1984’s Various Positions, “If It Be Your Will” is an ethereal track that features Jennifer Warnes on backing vocals. “If it be your will/That I speak no more/And my voice be still/As it was before,” Cohen sings over faint acoustic guitar. “I will speak no more...

Leonard Cohen’s Profound ‘Thanks for the Dance’ Is a Posthumous Grace Note
Leonard Cohen
Leonard Cohen wrote and recorded until near his final breaths — the work, it was understood, was keeping him alive. Arriving three years after his death, Thanks for the Dance is a surprise, a sort of séance as shiva, a magnificent parting shot that’s also that exceptionally rare thing — a posthumous work as alive, challenging, and essential as anything issued in the artist’s lifetime.

Completed by his son and collaborator, Adam Cohen, it can be considered of a piece with You Want It Darker, issued just before his father...

Song Lyrics: Dirty Dancing Time of my Life of Bill Medley
"I've Had The Time Of My Life"

(originally by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes)

Now I've had the time of my life

No I never felt like this before

If I swear it's the truth

And I owe it all to you

'Cause I've had the time of my life

And I owe it all to you

I've been waiting for so long

Now I've finally found someone

To stand by me

We saw the writing on the wall

As we felt this magical

Fantasy

Now with passion in our eyes

There's no way we could disguise it

Secretly

So we take each other's hand

'Cause we seem to understand

The urgency just remember

You're the one thing

I can't get enough of

So I'll tell you something

This could be love because

I've had the time of my life

No I never felt this way before

Yes I swear...
