Sofia Coppola’s intimate portrait of fashion designer and her long-time friend Marc Jacobs premieres in Venice on Tuesday, and the pair are nothing but full of praise for one another.
Coppola and Jacobs were present at the press conference for Marc by Sofia on the Lido, fielding questions about the film from the press.
“When they asked me to do a film on Marc, I thought, ‘No, I can’t do that. It’s too much pressure,'” Coppola admitted. “‘[It] would have to be good, because he’s my friend and I love him.’ And then I kept thinking about, oh, it’d be so fun to look through all the archives… we’ve been friends for 30 years, and [it would be fun] to get to revisit his incredible body of work that I grew up with.”
The process reminded her of working on films with her brother in her 20s, she added.

As The Late Show with Stephen Colbert continues its death row march, Rosie O’Donnell predicts her ABC alma mater The View will be given a similar sentence.
Following the Donald Trump administration’s recent warning that the roundtable talk show could be “the next to be pulled off air,” the 12x Emmy winner expressed her fears for the Barbara Walters creation in a post entitled ‘Silencing The View‘.
“You know what I just read today? ABC is ‘reviewing the liberal bias’ on The View. The View. Angelina Jolie discovered a fatal attraction to women back when she was first cast in the 1996 flick, Foxfire, alongside Jenny Shimizu. In fact, her attraction to Shimizu was so strong that she even went as far as to say that she “probably would have married” had she not been involved with and tied the knot with her first ex-husband, Jonny Lee Miller.
In an interview with Girlfriends magazine back in 1997, she shared how her husband took it when she was still figuring her sexuality out, saying:
[Miller] was around when I was figuring things out about myself, when I was realizing that I was attracted to women also. When I realized that somebody like Jenny could be a deep love for me, he realized it, and he took it very seriously. If anything, he didn’t treat it just like some sexy thing.

Back in the ‘90s, Cheri Oteri was one of Saturday Night Live’s biggest stars, famous for playing characters like the overly-medicated Colette Reardon, Arianna the Spartan cheerleader, 20/20 host Barbara Walters and, of course, the “simmer down now” lady.

Oteri recently guested on Dana Carvey and David Spade’s Fly on the Wall podcast, and just before the episode ended, Carvey brought up the anniversary special. “What did you do on the 50th? I missed it. Were you there? Did you do anything?” the Master of Disguise star inquired.
“No, I was not asked to do anything. I sat in the audience,” Oteri replied.
“Bastards,” Carvey responded. “Waste of talent.”

Of all of the threats facing the United States, global, economic and existential, why does President Donald Trump expend so much emotional energy on comedian Rosie O’Donnell?
Even though the comic currently resides overseas, Trump is rattling sabers in her direction on his personal social media platform. “Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” he Posted, employing his Trademark brand of erratic word Capitalization.
While O’Donnell is defiantly critical of Trump on her own social media channels, the roots of their feud weren’t planted in this presidential term — or his last. The bad feelings date back to 2006, according to Variety, when O’Donnell roasted Trump on an episode of The View.
Well before Trump ran for public office, he indulged in a variety of business ventures, including ownership of the Miss USA pageant.

If President Donald Trump, like Richard Nixon, kept an enemies list, one seemingly unlikely name would be right at the top — not a lawmaker or one of his predecessors, but the funny lady who tossed Koosh balls into the audience, and who speaks in frank and unadorned language about her disdain for him.
Trump’s latest salvo against Rosie O’Donnell, who hosted an eponymous daytime talk show from 1996 to 2002 and did two yearlong stints on “The View,” was his strangest yet. “Because of the fact that Rosie O’Donnell is not in the best interests of our Great Country, I am giving serious consideration to taking away her Citizenship,” Trump posted on his social network, Truth Social, on Saturday. O’Donnell moved to Ireland following Trump’s election and told Variety, in a recent interview about her role on “And Just Like That,” that she does not plan to return to the U.

Billy Bush is recalling “the most uncomfortable celebrity situation” he ever had, and it involves Ricky Martin.
The 53-year-old entertainment host made an appearance on Literally! with Rob Lowe, and spoke about an interview with the “Livin’ La Vida Loca” singer around the time of his self-titled debut in 1999.
“I was young and working out of New York the first couple years on Access Hollywood, East Coast correspondent. I got the call to go down and interview Ricky Martin in Miami for his new album and Mariah Carey the night before,” he recalled.
“I know Barbara Walters had asked him about his sexuality. I’m like, ‘Wouldn’t that be a big news maker?’”
Keep reading to find out more…
In the hotel lobby the night before the interview, he took an informal poll to find out what people wanted to know about the singer, and they wanted to know if he was gay.

“Tell me everything,” Barbara Walters used to urge her TV guests. She believed she could coax the truth out of anyone, whether revered or disgraced, and so did her viewers.
Her confidence would be challenged today when every fragment of news, even neighborhood trivia, disappears in a blur of distrust. Since viewers no longer believe what they hear, she’d wonder, might her interviewees become too constrained about what they say?
President Trump distrusts the news media so intensely he limits his announcements to his website, even when they’re nakedly bogus (“lasting disarmament”?) .
If that revered truth-teller Walter Cronkite were alive today it’s doubtful whether even he could cast a clear focus on Gaza or Tehran, on Zelenskyy or Netanyahu. Frustrated, he might even unleash AI on Ice just to see what emerges.
Media reporting on immigration purges is so distrusted that entire new layers of fact-finders have...

Barbara Walters spent 50 years on television, interviewing some of the most famous men and women in America. She had had conversations with everyone from the Kardashian sisters to the incarcerated Menendez Brothers. However, there was one Hollywood celebrity who was able to throw her off her game a bit during one of these interviews.
The recent trailer of the documentary, Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything, featured a clip of her interview with Clint Eastwood. The interview, which had a setting resembling a date, turned quite flirtatious, and Walters was seen blushing before she asked for a break. Walters died in 2022 at the age of 93.

During her storied multi-decade tenure at ABC News, Barbara Walters could always be trusted to book the high-profile interviews — and secure the exclusive scoops — that few other journalists could get. Now, a buzzy new documentary is telling us everything about the late broadcaster's own life and career, from the friends she made, the criticisms she endured and the romances that formed and fizzled in the public eye.
Following its premiere at the Tribeca Festival last month, Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything launched on Hulu on Monday. Directed by Jackie Jesko, the film shows how Walters' intense drive propelled her rise to the top of the TV news game. But that ambition also led to a strained relationship with the people in her life, including her daughter, Jacqueline Dena Guber, who declined to appear on-camera.

Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything is far from a tell-all on the esteemed journalist, but the film produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries does go beyond the headlines Walters made during her career as a broadcaster to explore her childhood, her drive and the relationships, personal and professional, that shaped her life.

Barbara Walters will forever be known as the television industry’s first million-dollar woman. Whether it was starting The View or being a renowned broadcast journalist in the country, the woman knew what moves to make in order to build an empire for herself. Born in 1929, Barbara Walters passed away a few years back, on December 30, 2022.
Since then, people have had a lot to say about the journalist, both good and bad. While some consider Barbara Walters to be a pioneer of her field, others don’t have that great of a perception of her. Her “transactional” relationship with one of the most despised men in the country was one reason why.

Kathy Griffin is looking back at almost becoming a permanent co-host of The View.
In a video shared on her YouTube channel on Tuesday (June 17), the 64-year-old comedian said that she declined a $1.4 million offer to co-host the ABC daytime talk show, and claimed that the late Barbara Walters was not happy with her decision.
Keep reading to find out more…“I really respect those women for going on that show day in and day out because they know there’s blowback,” Kathy began, praising the show. “And by the way, to this day, The View is one of the most buzzworthy shows on television or anywhere.”
“People still get up in arms online talking about who said what on The View, so it’s always been a high-stakes show,” she added.
Kathy then spoke about guest co-hosting roughly 27 times before being an offered a permanent position in the mid-2000s.

Some affairs leave lipstick traces; others leave scars on your soul. We’ve always believed ambition is a brutal mistress; it seduces you with dreams and punishes you with silence. And Barbara Walters? She has probably danced willingly with that mistress.
Everyone knows Walters as the woman who grilled presidents, made celebrities cry, and created The View. But behind the spotlight, there was a woman who once gambled with love and lost. She reportedly had an affair with Senator Edward Brooke in the 1970s. He was married. She was very aware that the wrong move could kill both their careers. They kept it quiet. Until she couldn’t. Years later, Walters admitted she was “infatuated”.

The documentary Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything is a film much like its subject: sharp, uncomfortably direct, and possessed of a ferocious intelligence that refuses to settle for simple answers. It presents a life that was a constant negotiation between a public persona of empathetic inquiry and a private reality of steel-willed ambition.
Here was a woman who did not just report on the seismic cultural shifts of the 20th century; she was one of them, a genuine trailblazer who shattered the stained-glass ceiling of broadcast news with methodical determination.
Yet the film does not sanitize its subject. It understands that the same person who could disarm a dictator with a disarmingly human question could also maintain a perplexing, decades-long friendship with the political fixer Roy Cohn.
The film sets its hook not by promising a tribute, but by promising a full accounting of a deeply complicated and significant American figure.

A documentary is shedding light on Barbara Walters’ early career, and it’s not the inspiring story you might expect. While she went on to become one of the most respected journalists in television history, her big break at NBC came for a surprising reason. Apparently, NBC hired her not because of her talent or potential, but solely because she came at a low cost.
Well, this was definitely a startling contrast to the legacy she eventually built, further reminding us how often success stories begin in unexpected ways. Let’s dive deeper!
The truth behind Barbara Walters’ first big break at NBC
Barbara Walters is remembered as a television legend, known for being a fearless interviewer who sat across from presidents, movie stars, and royalty. But a new documentary, Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything via USA Today, reveals that her journey to the top wasn’t as glamorous as many believed.

“Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything” is a documentary a lot like its subject. It’s sharp and inquiring in a playful way. It asks friendly questions but knows just when to toss in a tough one. It sizes up important people with clear-eyed worldly perception, but it’s also enthralled by the seductions of fame and money and power.
“Tell Me Everything” delivers the Barbara Walters story, in all its tasty fascination and significance, and it captures a great deal about Walters as a person because it refuses to be intimidated by how elusive she could be. On TV, she presented herself as a fighting mensch, someone who could disarm you with that sympathetic twinkle in her eye. Yet off camera she could be ruthless. She burned through romantic relationships as if they were seasonal shopping sprees, and one of her closest friends was the dreaded Roy Cohn. She was complicated.

The temptation to deliver scrubbed-clean hagiography with “Barbara Walters Tell Me Everything” had to have been there: The journalist, who died at 93 in 2022, was the very definition of trailblazer, a woman who worked harder than all the men around her in the extraordinarily testosterone-filled boys club that was midcentury broadcast news, and all but single-handedly paved the way for women to have prominent on-air roles ever since. And Walters achieved that, despite starting out having to do “Today” show segments in the early 1960s that saw her doing stunts like dressing up as a Playboy bunny.
But Jackie Jesko’s documentary goes beyond the obvious, just as Walters’ own interviews so often did. It’s clear-eyed about Walters’ transactional approach to arranging interviews, and about the discomforting allure “money, fame, and power,” in the words of her biographer Peter Gethers, held for her.
There’s even a clip of her...

Imagine, just for a second, that you have put in the work to become a master improviser and a professional comedian. You are presented with the opportunity to come to a slightly ‘80s Barbara Walters by way of public access television looking-set, and either be completely transformed with makeup/prosthetics and then come up with a character to be a guest on an interview show, or play the stressed, buttoned-up interviewer who has no idea who their guest is. Vic Michaelis would choose to be the voice of reason, every time.
So, it’s good that Michaelis is the host of “Very Important People,” the improvised interview series on Dropout. It’s a show that can go a lot of different ways — and does, from the fictionalized Host Vic (Michaelis) being visited by a cursed childhood doll (Corin Wells) or a man who has been frozen in ice until just...

Barbara Walters didn’t set out to become a pioneer for females in media. The legendary broadcast journalist and “The View” creator was simply trying to survive as a woman in a male-dominated industry.
“She’s mentioned in the same sentence as feminist icons, but she wasn’t a crusader. She wasn’t Gloria Steinem,” says Jackie Jesko, the director of “Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything,” which premieres on Thursday at Tribeca Festival. “She wasn’t doing it for other women. She was doing it for herself.”
That doesn’t make Walters — whose career took off at NBC as the first female co-host of “Today” and shaped history again at “ABC Evening News” as the first female (and highest-paid) network news anchor — any less of a trailblazer.
“We shouldn’t require that of our feminist icons,” the director says. “She made it possible for other women, and she loved that once she realized it,...

When Barbara Walters joined ABC news in 1976, she became the highest-paid journalist in the U.S. – pulling in $1 million a year. That, not surprisingly, triggered a lot of resentment among her peers, none more so than her evening news co-anchor Harry Reasoner.
Overcoming envy and sexism and balancing a career and motherhood, Walters reached the pinnacle of her profession and stayed there, a story explored in the new documentary Barbara Walters: Tell Me Everything. The film directed by Jackie Jesko premieres Thursday evening at Tribeca Festival in New York.
The feature, which debuts on Hulu later this month, is the latest from Imagine Documentaries, the enormously successful nonfiction division of the production company founded by Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. On the latest edition of Deadline’s Doc Talk podcast, we explore the company’s upcoming docs and impressive slate of Emmy contenders with Imagine Entertainment president Justin Wilkes and Imagine Documentaries president Sara Bernstein.

Billy Joel had planned to be in the audience for the opening night of the Tribeca Festival to watch the world premiere of a new documentary about his tumultuous rise to the top of the charts
But the singer, who was recently diagnosed with a brain disorder known as Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus, was forced to skip Wednesday’s glitzy screening of “Billy Joel: And So It Goes.” Susan Lacy and Jessica Levin, the film’s directors, assured the audience that Joel is confident that he will return to the stage.
“He will be back,” Lacy said. She also shared a short message from the music legend. “Getting old sucks, but it’s still preferable to getting cremated,” Joel’s note read.
After going public with his health issues, Joel recently announced he was cancelling 17 shows he booked at stadiums across North America and England while he underwent “specific physical therapy.

Johnny Carson’s oldest son, Chris, passed away earlier this year at the age of 74, as reported by multiple sources. Chris had two younger brothers — Cory, still alive, and Rick, who died in a car accident in 1991. The death was a reminder that the late Tonight Show host had several regrets as a father.
Carson divorced Chris’ mother while Chris and his brothers were still young, rationalizing that it was the best thing for his sons. “They're far better off if there’s an honest, clean divorce,” Carson told Playboy in 1967. “I’m happy to notice that my boys don’t seem to be negatively affected by mine. I think they’re getting along fine.”
But how would Carson know? “He was married to The Tonight Show. That was his life,” Carson the Magnificent co-author Mike Thomas told Fox News. “Johnny lamented the fact that he was not much closer to his sons.

In a 1999 interview with LA Weekly, Armond White said, “Spike [Lee] has become a first-rate marketer—he knows what a young audience wants, and he supplies it. Spike picks hot topics—basketball, interracial dating—but that doesn’t mean you break ground. Barbara Walters picks hot topics every day. The pretense of seriousness doesn’t mean you’re serious.” In defense of Charles Burnett’s 1977 masterpiece Killer of Sheep, White, who wrote a piece on the film for The A List: The National Society of Film Critics’ 100 Essential Films, also suggests that Burnett, not Lee, shows black American life as it really is.
The way White sees it, Lee’s joints are brash and fashionable but their truths are rarely vibrant, made and marketed to appeal to the same youth that typically favors American Pie over All the Real Girls, Trainspotting over All or Nothing, and Dead Presidents over George Washington.

It’s Jane Rosenthal versus the jackhammer.
As the legendary producer strolls onto the patio of The Greenwich Hotel, clad in her signature blue shades, she’s visibly aghast. A small army of workers is plastering a banner and some streamers onto trees in preparation for a bridal shower scheduled for later today. The conversation we’re meant to have over lunch about her glass-ceiling-shattering career as the CEO of Tribeca Enterprises is destined to be drowned out by the din.
This won’t do! Rosenthal, one of Hollywood’s most meticulous producers — with a list of credits that includes “The Irishman,” “Meet the Parents,” “Rent” and “About a Boy”— is used to navigating tricky situations. But as she sizes up the construction project, it dawns on her that this isn’t her set, and she can’t tell the workers to get lost. She drifts into the restaurant. A table among the masses?...

Double-meaning jokes and pick-up lines have been a classic since time immemorial. However, The Rock may have taken things to a whole new level while “flirting” with Lilian Garcia two decades ago.
