  • Zoë Wanamaker did finally become a British citizen in 2000 after being notified that she would be made a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2001 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to drama, which she received from the Queen at Buckingham Palace. As a US citizen, she would only have been eligible to receive an honourary CBE awarded by the foreign secretary.
