Preacher Season 4 Episode 6 Review: The Lost Apostle
God's plan for the end of the world enters Phase 2 and Cassidy and Tulip hit the Outback on a typically bananas episode of Preacher.

This Preacher review contains spoilers.

Preacher Season 4 Episode 6

Preacher is a show that can be difficult to review, if only because in any given episode, a lot of things happen. Barring a bottle episode or an episode focused on a specific character, there's a lot of ground to cover. For example, in “The Lost Apostle,” every major character in Preacher is active and involved throughout the episode. Granted, some of the scenes are simple—Jesus, Hitler, and Starr are snacking and negotiating around a conference table—but it's still a subplot to potentially discuss, and figuring out what to talk about can be a daunting task.

So, focus will be drawn to the scenes in Preacher that echoed one of my all-time favorite movies,...

Preacher Season 4 Episode 5 Review: Bleak City
The characters in Preacher season 4 are stuck in a loop of their own making but there isn't much time left to break it.

This Preacher review contains spoilers.

Preacher Season 4 Episode 5

In the world of Preacher, characters seem to be drawn into situations not based off of free will, but divine providence. As Eugene often says, God has a plan, and we're all just following his plan no matter how directionless we might feel during a particularly trying moment. Certainly, Eugene is part of some sort of plan, even if that plan is simply for him to pray over the victims of the Saint of Killers as he murders his way across the world in pursuit of Jesse Custer.

Of all the characters, only The Saint and Jesse have a definitive goal in mind. The Saint wants Jesse dead, Jesse wants to stop the end of the world.

Quentin Tarantino at an event for La 85e cérémonie des Oscars (2013)
Arizona Review: Further Proof That Danny McBride Is a National Treasure
Quentin Tarantino at an event for La 85e cérémonie des Oscars (2013)
Arizona is the kind of fun thriller they don't really make any more. Not for a while, anyway. It's glossy schlock at its best, and I mean that in the best possible way. It shouldn't really be compared to the works of Quentin Tarantino. It falls more in line with the glut of crime thrillers that came in the wake of Pulp Fiction. It's not first, or even second tier. It's like a third teir rip-off that lines up more with Mark Wahlberg's The Big Hit or Katie Holmes's Go in terms of tone, than it does 2 Days in the Valley or Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead. Back in the late 90s, everyone wanted to be a Tarantino clone, and that quickly morphed into its own sub-genre. The idea was abandoned long ago, though it left some worthy cinematic endeavors in its path of deep destruction.

‘Arizona’ Review
Stars: Kaitlin Olson, Seth Rogen, Elizabeth Gillies, Rosemarie DeWitt, Danny McBride, Luke Wilson, David Alan Grier, Jade Kammerman, Lolli Sorenson, Travis Hammer, Audrey Walters, Cullen Moss | Written by Luke Del Tredici | Directed by Jonathan Watson

Set in the midst of the 2009 housing crisis, this darkly comedic story follows Cassie Fowler, a single mom and struggling realtor whose life goes off the rails when she witnesses a murder.

Jonathan Watson’s Arizona while an oversimplified comedic thriller as a premise on paper and page, is a far more intriguing and engaging final product. Although, unfortunately, and naively so doesn’t want to plunge into the dramatic depths to discover a far more promising and distinctive voice, only dipping its toes into a sea of prevalent social commentary.

Danny McBride shows terrific range with a seismic outlandish performance of muddled morality and chaotic nihilistic endurance. His terrific and versatile range is an...

‘Arizona’ Star Danny McBride on Playing the Villain and Pushing Boundaries in Comedy [Interview]
Danny McBride gives his most frightening performance to date in Arizona. Director Jonathan Watson, who’s worked with McBride since season 2 of Eastbound and Down, uses McBride’s charisma and comedic powers to make a blonde-haired, golf-playing baddie all the more menacing. There’s something unsettling about McBride’s comedic sensibilities in a villain like Sonny, who never loses his scary sense […]

‘Arizona’ Star Danny McBride on the Joys of Creating a Desert Bloodbath With Your Best Friends
“Arizona” is a pitch-black comedy that is the perfect antidote to late-summer box office slog: an unpredictable and nasty slice of life set in a nearly desolate Harding, Arizona, it concerns desperate people on the verge of losing their homes thanks to the housing bubble collapse of 2009. What starts as a quirky caper about Sonny (Danny McBride) trying to cover up an accidental murder soon descends into a bloody mess. Sonny quickly gets in too deep as he kidnaps Cassie (Rosemarie DeWitt), who witnesses the death, and tangles with host of other oddballs, played by comedy ringers such as Luke Wilson, David Alan Grier, and Kaitlin Olson. Despite a rising body count thanks to an unhinged Sonny, McBride was inspired to take on a challenging role, and achieved the perfect tone thanks to the help of some trusted collaborators.

Finding the humanity in a character like Sonny was a priority,...

Arizona (Jonathan Watson)

It’s hard not to like Danny McBride. Since his first movie role in David Gordon Green’s All The Real Girls to his breakout dark comedy The Foot Fist Way and beyond, the performer operates at his own energetic speed, often elevating whatever he’s in. In Arizona, directed by McBride’s Vice Principals producer Jonathan Watson, the comedian is given plenty to play with early on and he makes the most it. Unfortunately, the majority of the material is worn out in the first thirty minutes, which leaves the final fifty-five. – Dan M. (full review)

Danny McBride Holds Rosemarie DeWitt Hostage in First Trailer for ‘Arizona’
Premiering at Sundance Film Festival earlier this year was the directorial debut of Vice Principals producer Jonathan Watson, which, of course, reunited him with Danny McBride. Arizona follows his character in the late aughts housing crisis as he fights back in violent ways against losing his house. His victim is a single mom played by Rosemarie DeWitt, who is having financial problems of her own. Ahead of a release next week, the first trailer has now arrived.

Dan Mecca said in his review from Sundance, “Written by Luke Del Tredici, what starts as a dark screwball comedy morphs into something nasty. The comedy soon becomes secondary to the violence. And while this is clearly the intention, Arizona never becomes as engaging as a thriller as its premise might suggest. The setting speaks to something socially while the content says nothing much.”

Arizona Trailer Turns Danny McBride Into a Bloodthirsty Maniac
The first trailer for Arizona has arrived. Danny McBride is primarily known for his comedy exploits in movies like Pineapple Express and on the small screen in shows like Eastbound and Down. However, he's been dipping his toes in the horror genre a bit more in recent years, having starred in Alien: Covenant last year, in addition to co-writing the upcoming Halloween movie. Now, the trailer for Arizona showcases a pretty shocking blend of his unique talents.

Things get dark pretty quickly in the footage. Danny McBride provides some angry voiceover, relating to his frustrations that stemmed from the housing crisis in 2009. He has kidnapped his real estate agent and, as we soon come to realize, his character isn't exactly the most intelligent guy. He's clearly not used to dealing with crimes such as these. Even though much of this is intended to be humorous, it's all very messed up.

Danny McBride Gets Bloody in New Look at Horror Comedy Arizona
The first images from the horror/comedy Arizona have arrived online. The movie made its debut at the Sundance Film Festival in January of this year and will be screening later this month at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal. Ahead of its scheduled screening at the upcoming festival, a trio of images from the movie have arrived, showcasing a bloody Danny McBride, a blood-free Luke Wilson and a mother, played by Rosemarie DeWitt, who is trying to comfort her terrified daughter.

There is currently no trailer or footage of any kind to accompany these images of Arizona, but they paint a picture that is much more horror than comedy. Though, the movie is being billed as a "delightfully nasty" comedy by the organizers of the Fantasia Film Festival. Many moviegoers are probably still much more accustomed to Danny McBride being in R-rated comedies and shows such as Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals.

Sundance 2018 Review Round-Up: Never Goin’ Back, Time Share, Arizona
While attending the 2018 Sundance Film Festival, Daily Dead had the opportunity to catch up on a trio of comedies that ran the gamut of humor: Augustine Frizzell’s Never Goin’ Back, Sebastián Hofmann's Time Share, and Jonathan Watson’s Arizona, which is centered around the 2008/2009 housing crisis.

Never Goin’ Back: As someone who has a deep fondness for slacker/stoner comedies, Augustine Frizzell’s Never Goin’ Back tickled my proverbial funny bone and made me fall in love with its duo of down-on-their-luck protagonists who want nothing more than to get through their work week so they can go on vacation and eat donuts on the beach. Seems simple enough, but when you factor in a hilariously terrible robbery attempt, an ill-timed stint in juvie, and a myriad of other complications, we witness just how difficult it is for the teenaged heroines of Never Goin’ Back, who just cannot seem to catch a break.

Danny McBride & Rosemarie DeWitt Shine In Overcooked ‘Arizona’ [Sundance Review]
Danny McBride has always been a great screen presence, whether in indies such as David Gordon Green‘s “All the Real Girls,” right through to comedies such as “Pineapple Express” and “This is the End.” He’s always elevated whatever he’s been in with his unique style of slacker comedy. McBride’s greater impact, h0wever, might have been on television where he built the legend of failed professional baseball pitcher Kenny Powers in four successful seasons on HBO‘s “Eastbound and Down.”

In “Arizona,” directed by Jonathan Watson, McBride is given an all-too-rare leading role as Sonny.
