- Jersey Joe Walcott was born on January 31, 1914 in Merchantville, New Jersey, USA. He died on February 25, 1994 in Camden, New Jersey, USA.
- Won the World's Heavyweight Boxing Championship in his 5th attempt.
- Was the first fighter to knock down Rocky Marciano.
- Was the oldest man to win the World's Heavyweight Title until George Foreman broke the record.
- After he retired he went to work in the Juvenile Division of the Camden (NJ) Police Department. In 1965 he was appointed as Camden's Assistant Director of Public Safety.
- He was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2013 for his services to sports.
