Biography

    • Jersey Joe Walcott was born on January 31, 1914 in Merchantville, New Jersey, USA. He was an actor, known for Plus dure sera la chute (1956), Les barons de la pègre (1961) and World's Heavyweight Championship: Joe Louis vs. Jersey Joe Walcott (1947). He died on February 25, 1994 in Camden, New Jersey, USA.

Trivia

  • Won the World's Heavyweight Boxing Championship in his 5th attempt.
  • Was the first fighter to knock down Rocky Marciano.
  • Was the oldest man to win the World's Heavyweight Title until George Foreman broke the record.
  • After he retired he went to work in the Juvenile Division of the Camden (NJ) Police Department. In 1965 he was appointed as Camden's Assistant Director of Public Safety.
  • He was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2013 for his services to sports.
