    • Eduard von Winterstein was born on August 1, 1871 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary [now Austria]. He was an actor, known for L'ange bleu (1930), Die Sonnenbrucks (1951) and Hamlet (1921). He was married to Hedwig Pauly-Winterstein and Minna Mengers. He died on July 22, 1961 in East Berlin, East Germany.

  • Grandfather of Friedel von Wangenheim and the twins Eleonora & Elisabeth von Wangenheim.
  • Imposing and prolific character actor of considerable gravitas, invariably seen as powerful, stern authority figures: generals, senior clergy, professors, leaders of industry, and the like. He was on stage from 1895 in Berlin and appeared in films from 1913. Between 1905 and 1920, he was in charge of the acting school of the Deutsches Theater.
  • The Theater in Annaberg-Buchholz is named Eduard von Winterstein Theater today.
  • He acted in the play Ersten Held und Liebhaber in 1893. The same year, he played the title role in Egmont at the opening of a theater in Annaberg on 2 April 1893. "I was re-born in Annaberg and became like a completely different person. In this small town I had really become an actor. So the Anna Berger time was one of the best in my profession." he wrote in his autobiography.
