Leopold Ernst Gerhard Freiherr von Ledebur

Heavy-set German character actor from a distinguished aristocratic background. Originally trained in law, he began directing for the stage in 1905 and later became a 'state actor' in classical roles, especially by Shakespeare (KIng Lear) and Kleist. He also appeared in numerous silent pictures from 1916, a solid purveyor of gravitas as generals, ministers, judges or landed gentry. He was the older brother of the internationally well-known actor Friedrich von Ledebur.

The actor Leopold von Ledebur already appeared in the 10's in silent movies like "Der goldene Pol" (1918) and "Carmen" (1918).

From 1919 he belonged to the busy film stars and acted in "Artistentreue" (1919).

In the 30's and 40's he acted in many movies in which the portly actor impersonated generals ans other important personalities, but also servants and other employees belonged to his repertoire.
