Reality Rematch: Alan or RuPaul? Emmy voters have a whole host of choices
Image
The two most recent winners for Best Reality Host are facing off for the second consecutive year: Alan Cumming (The Traitors), who triumphed in 2024, and RuPaul Charles (RuPaul's Drag Race), who holds the record with eight victories between 2016 and 2023. While Cumming claimed a second trophy last year when The Traitors won Best Competition Program, he has a long road ahead to match RuPaul's staggering career total of 14 Emmys — the most ever for a person of color.

The Best Reality Host category has favored repeat winners since its creation in 2008, with Jeff Probst (Survivor), Jane Lynch (Hollywood Game Night), and RuPaul all stepping up to the podium more than once.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Production Design Team Does Just as Much Improv Behind the Scenes as the Queens Do on Camera
Image
While the category may technically be called Outstanding Production Design for a Variety or Reality Series, only one reality show actually landed a nomination this year: “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”

Going against “The Daily Show,” “Last Week Tonight With John Oliver,” “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” and “Saturday Night Live” is the Season 17 “Drag Race” episode “Rdr Live” — which just happened to be an improv-comedy challenge/”SNL” send-up.

“There’s an aspect that’s just very over-the-top, a lot of innuendo, a lot of

humor that’s exaggerated. I think the writers have a lot of fun with that,” production designer Jen Chu told TheWrap of parodying the NBC late-night staple. “There aren’t a lot of [‘Drag Race’] episodes where you get to do four or five sets within one episode. Usually it’s just one stand-alone set, so as a designer, it’s fun to get a script that has a lot of components.

Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind Review: The Unmaking of the Modern Self
Image
There comes a point in every aesthetic revolution when the pendulum, having reached its apex, begins its inevitable swing back. Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind positions itself at this precise moment of cultural reversal. The series gathers a flock of minor celebrities and major influencers, individuals whose faces and bodies have served as public canvases, and sequesters them in the “Rewind Retreat.”

Here, in this strange secular monastery, they must consider the ultimate act of post-modern piety: undoing their own creation. Their spirit guides on this strange pilgrimage are a telling triad. Host Michelle Visage offers empathetic counsel, surgeon Dr. Terry Dubrow provides the grounding of physical law, and therapist Dr. Spirit probes the psyche.

They are here to pursue “natural,” a concept so fraught with contradiction in this context it becomes almost mystical. The process culminates in a walk through the “Time Tunnel,” a bit of stagecraft that functions...

“RuPaul’s Drag Race” executive producer Randy Barbato, co-executive producer/judge Michelle Visage, and choreographer/judge Jamal Sims joined former “Drag Race” guest judge and superfan Leslie Jones Friday night for a special panel as part of the “RuPaul’s Drag Race” FYC Emmy Pool Party Extravaganza event.

Joined by Season 17 winner Onya Nurve and the top six queens Jewels Sparkles, Sam Star, Suzie Toot, Lana Ja’Rae and Lexi Love, the panel discussed drag inspirations, representation, and the importance of supportive family.

According to Sims, who has been serving as a guest judge and choreographer on “Drag Race” since 2014, the key to a successful queen is confidence.

“I literally don’t meet the queens until y’all see it on TV – we’re filming as we go,” Sims revealed. “But what I look for is confidence. The minute I see there’s confidence in somebody, I’m like ‘Oh, that one’s gonna go far.

‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ Season 17 Top 6 Queens Celebrate the ‘Splashiest Season in Herstory’ | Exclusive Photos
Image
Some of Season 17’s sickening queens from “RuPaul’s Drag Race” strutted their stuff and discussed the importance of drag and queer visibility at the Mondrian Hotel Skybar.

The top six queens — winner Onya Nurve, runner-up Jewels Sparkles, Sam Star, Lexi Love, Suzie Toot and Lana Ja’Rae — all reunited Friday for a panel discussion and meet-and-greet with Television Academy members.

Judge Michelle Visage and choreographer Jamal Sims also joined for the panel discussion, moderated by former “Drag Race” guest judge Leslie Jones. As tensions arise around the globe over freedoms of expression, the mainstay judge said that drag is more valuable now than ever.

“In this climate, we need to be louder. We need to be gayer than ever before,” Visage said.

Season 17 winner Onya Nurve told Television Academy members what it meant for her to take home the crown, after only doing drag for three years prior to her appearance on the series.

Image
Since Season 17 of RuPaul's Drag Race was dubbed the "splashiest season in herstory," it only made sense for its 2025 Emmys campaign event to be a pool party.

The top six queens — winner Onya Nurve, runner-up Jewels Sparkles, Sam Star, Lexi Love, Suzie Toot, and Lana Ja’Rae — reunited on Friday for a panel discussion and meet-and-greet with Television Academy members. They were joined by executive producer Randy Barbato, co-executive producer and resident judge Michelle Visage, and choreographer and guest judge Jamal Sims. Actress and Drag Race superfan Leslie Jones moderated the Q&a at the Skybar pool at the Mondrian Hotel in West Hollywood.

One of the themes of the evening was drag vs. politics, with Visage declaring, "In this climate, we need to be louder. We need to be gayer than ever before." The queens also talked about why the art of drag is so important right now, especially with...

Onya Nurve won the season and the cash prize of $200,000, while Jewels Sparkles placed second. Both queens had America cheering all season long,...
