Netflix has unveiled a new film with “The Eternaut” lead Ricardo Darín, Argentina’s biggest star, and another by popular director Marcos Carnevale (“Elsa and Fred”), starring Oscar Martínez (“Official Competition”).

“Lo dejamos acá” stars Darín and Diego Paretti, another big Argentine player, in a movie about a pragmatic psychoanalyst (Darín) who begins to distrust traditional psychological methods, crossing ethical lines with his patients. The streaming platform currently hosts 10 series based on his novels, along with one original show not tied to his published works. In 2025, three out of those 10 series adaptations were released. First was Missing You, followed by Just One Look and then Caught (Atrapados).

Here’s my issue with Just One Look.

Harlan Coben struck a five-year deal with Netflix in 2018 to adapt some of his most famous and successful novels. The shows did very well on the platform, so they renewed the deal to continue the partnership, which now includes a Latin American adaptation.

Coben penned 35 novels that have reportedly sold 80 million copies and have been translated into 46 languages. Netflix already boasts a slate filled with limited series adaptations, most of them in English. However, 2025 brought the first Latin American adaptation of Caught, which is already a hit on the platform, per Tudum.

Caught is not the first series in Spanish, as Coben's 2005 novel The Innocent was adapted into an eight-episode limited series in 2021 starring Mario Casas, Alexandra Jiménez, Aura Garrido, José Coronado, and Martina Gusmá. However, it's the first one from Latin America.

The limited series Caught, which is based on Coben's 2010 novel of the same name, premiered on the platform on Mar.

Caught, aka Atrapados, is Harlan Coben's first Latin American adaptation, and it's currently streaming on Netflix. This marks the third Coben series to be released on the platform in 2025, and like his previous adaptations, it's got everyone talking. In fact, it's one of the most popular shows on Netflix at the moment.

The mystery thriller series stars Soledad Villamil as Ema Garay, a respected journalist known for exposing criminals who have slipped through the cracks of justice. After meeting trusted and well-known community figure Leo Mercer, she finds her investigative skills tested when he becomes her main suspect in the disappearance of a teenage girl.

Adolescence

There's no doubt Adolescence is the best new Netflix show of March! It's probably the best Netflix show of the year so far, and I don't think it's all that close, either. The series stars Owen Cooper as Jamie Miller, a teenager accused of brutally murdering his classmate, Katie. While the series isn't based on one real case, it's obviously influenced by several cases of violence against women and girls.

Those who have been following my coverage of the Harlan Coben adaptations coming out of the garbage chute of Netflix are probably aware of how much I hate the writer and the streaming platform. For those who don’t, here’s a primer: I hate Coben and everything of his that’s been commissioned by Netflix. I hate the readers who have made his books famous. I also hate the people who watch these serialized adaptations so that more of Coben’s nonsensical books can be turned into shows. While some of these changes improved the narrative, some were not great.

Netflix gave a sneak peek at its 2025 line-up of non-English programming yesterday with shows such as The Leopard (Italy), Last Samurai Standing (Japan), The Empress S2 (Germany), El Refugio Atómico (Spain), Senna (Brazil), Alice in Borderland S3 (Japan), and even this year’s One Hundred Years of Solitude (Colombia).

Penned by Gerardo Pranteda, the story revolves around a pianist and a history teacher as they struggle for a second chance at love before a shattering illness impacts the musician’s grip on reality.

Buenos Aires-based production, sales and distribution company FilmSharks has picked up all worldwide rights to the new crime thriller by Argentina’s Sebastian Schindel, “A Silent Death” (Una muerte silenciosa”), to which it has sold Latin American theatrical rights to Disney’s Star Distribution, slated for release later in the year.

Said FilmSharks CEO Guido Rud: “This is likely to become one of the biggest Latin American films of the year. Sebastian Schindel has earned his stripes as the Master of Crime after the huge international success of his films ‘The Boss,’ ‘Anatomy of a Crime,’ ‘Crimes that Bind’ and ‘The Wrath of God.’”

After a three-decade-long absence from filmmaking, Victor Erice returns to cinema with what is only his fourth feature. Cerrar los ojos reunites him with the star of his last film (El sol del membrillo): Ana Torrent. Production took place in Granada, Almería, Asturias and Madrid up until December. José Coronado, María León, Petra Martínez, Soledad Villamil, Mario Pardo, Elena Miquel and José María Pou also star in the film. The story of a disappearance, the film revolves “around issues such as identity and memory.”

Film Factory Entertainment has picked up international sales rights to Victor Erice’s highly anticipated “Cerrar los ojos,” which marks the fourth feature by the legendary Spanish filmmaker, writer-director of “The Spirit of the Beehive,” reuniting him with Ana Torrent, the wide-eyed very young star of that milestone film.

Now wrapping its shoot in Granada, Almería and Asturias before moving to Madrid, “Cerrar los Ojos” is set for 2023 Spanish theatrical release by “Alcarràs” distributor Avalon.

Erice’s fourth feature, following on 30 years after Cannes Festival Jury Prize winner “El sol del membrillo” (“Dream of Light”), “Cerrar los ojos” is written by Erice and Michel Gaztambide, a Spanish Academy best screenplay Goya Award winner for “No Rest for the Wicked.” The story of a disappearance, the film revolves “around issues such as identity and memory,” its producers announced Monday.

Netflix announced Tuesday that it will be premiering Ali Wong’s new comedy special, “Don Wong,” on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14.

The special is Wong’s third with Netflix, following 2016’s “Ali Wong: Baby Cobra” and “Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife” in 2018. “Don Wong” was filmed at the Count Basie Center for the Arts in New Jersey in November 2021, and features Wong discussing her deepest fantasies, the challenges of monogamy and her feelings about single people.

The project is the latest addition to a slate of projects between Wong and Netflix, including the 2019 film “Always Be My Maybe” and the upcoming series “Beef.” Wong also voices characters on animated shows including Netflix’s “Ask the StoryBots,” “Ada Twist,” “Scientist” and the Emmy-winning adult comedy “Big Mouth.”

“Don Wong” is directed by Nahnatchka Khan, with Wong serving as executive producer alongside Ravi Nandan, Inman Young, Alli Reich and Corey Deckler for A24.

Director Billy Ray ("Shattered Glass") has had a remake of Argentina's Oscar winner thriller "The Secret in Their Eyes" in the works for a few years, set up and then languishing at Warner Bros., and now rejuvenated at Im Global, who's set to shop the film at the Cannes market. And they've got a tantalizing cast in place: Chiwetel Ejiofor and Gwyneth Paltrow. The remake pivots around a former Mi-5 agent (Ejiofor) who can't shake his obsession with an unsolved murder, even as he's hired by the FBI and heads to Boston. He eventually uncovers some unthinkable secrets that shed a whole new light on past events. No word on Paltrow's role, but she'd presumably fill the shoes of Soledad Villamil's character from the original, a higher-up who Ricardo Darin's character (here Ejiofor) is in love with.
