Attended Friends School and the now defunct Girls Latin School, both in Baltimore and later Vassar College For Women.

Claimed that she far preferred the energy of live theater over making movies.

Hilda is buried with her parents at the Oheb Shalom Cemetery in Baltimore. Her gravestone inscribed with her birth name of Hilda W. Strouse.

She lived on Eutaw Place which was then one of the most desirable, prestigious areas of Baltimore from childhood on; first at 1706 Eutaw, then in 1916 she moved with her parents and younger brother Isaac to the Emersonian Apartments at 2502 Eutaw where she lived for decades.

She died one day after her 60th birthday.
