Edit
  • Never took dance lessons.
  • Was nominated for Broadway's 1971 Tony Award as Best Actor (Musical) for a revival of "No, No, Nanette." And 43 years later, to open the 2014 Tony Awards, host Hugh Jackman did so hopping to Broadway, just as Van had done in his famous sequence in Le joyeux prisonnier (1953).
  • Bobby Van was often a panelist on Tattletales (1974) with his wife, Elaine Joyce. The host of the show was Bert Convy, who also died from brain cancer.
  • Two children, Peter (with Diane Garrett), Taylor (with Elaine Joyce).
  • Also, Bobby Van did not remain his "stage name". He legally changed it to Bobby Van. (Abilene Reporter-News, Abilene TX July 18, 1976).
  • Interred at Mt. Sinai Memorial Park in Burbank, California.
  • Van married starlet Diane Garrett in 1952. They adopted a son, Peter, in 1959. They separated in 1964 and finalized the divorce in 1966. He and Diana Garrett (real name Ernestine Garrett. DOB 11/7/1927 per marriage license) were married on September 11, 1952, but kept the marriage secret until January 1953 (Reno-Nevada State Journal, January 11, 1953).
  • He was a lifelong Democrat.
